School Vacation Workshops

At HCA, we are deeply committed to providing accessible and engaging art experiences for all children, especially during the February School Vacation Week. Our diverse range of workshops is designed to inspire creativity and foster a love for the arts in a fun and supportive environment.
This year, we are excited to offer a week-long fullday option, perfect for children looking to immerse themselves in artistic exploration from morning until afternoon. This comprehensive program allows kids to dive deep into various art forms, providing them with the opportunity to express themselves while developing new skills.
Winter Wonderland Workshop
Spend your Saturday morning exploring the beauty of winter and the creativity it can inspire. We’ll work on a fun art activity and enjoy a wintery snack.

Fiber Arts Fun | Gr. 2 to 4
Play and experiment with fiber arts in this fun vacation week program! Work in a small group setting with award-winning weaver Dahlia Popovits—experience weaving, crocheting, and embroidery and working on various looms. We’ll make bookmarks, bracelets, potholders, and more!

Adventures in Art: Fantastical Creatures
Join us for a fun four day morning program during February vacation week featuring real or imagined creatures! Our week will be filled with color and creative mediums as we paint, build, sculpt, and draw fantastical characters.
The program will be inspired by the HCA’s winter exhibit featuring two passionate artists, Barney Levitt and Yulia Shtern, who instill humor into their whimsical and enchanted works.

For families seeking more flexibility, we also offer morning and afternoon classes. These shorter sessions are ideal for those who may want to complement other vacation activities or prefer a more condensed experience. Fiber Arts Fun | Gr. 5 to 7
Explore all things fiber arts in this fun vacation week program! Work in a small group setting with award-winning weaver Dahlia Popovits and experience weaving, crocheting, embroidery, and working on various looms. Using a variety of repurposed fabric strips, we’ll make wall hangings and table mats and then work on embroidery on garments or potholders.

Clay Creations: Let It Snow!

Join this two-day February vacation workshop where you will use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! We’ll make and decorate pinch pot snowmen as we learn hand-building techniques, including slab, coil, and pinching.

Show in a Week: Musical Theater
Iconic Ensembles
Explore theater and music through games, physical movement, storytelling, and finding your voice as we work on performing some of the most iconic musical theater ensemble numbers. We’ll work on our acting, singing, and dancing skills to help build and devise a final show for family and friends.

Cartoons & Comics
Create popular cartoon characters or ones of your design using pencils, Sharpies, markers, and colored pencils. We’ll work on basic drawing skills and the elements of art, including line, color, shape, value, form, space, and texture, to bring our characters to life. Get inspired by looking at famous cartoon artists and explore how to develop characters, manage text and pacing

Teen Wheel Throwing

Get your hands dirty in this hands-on week of pottery! Beginners will explore wheel-throwing skills such as wedging clay, centering, forming vessels, and glazing; more experienced potters will focus on making complex forms.
