MISSION
To provide a Christ-centered haven where our community at large can be shown hope for a future through education and the love of Jesus Christ
THE LAND OF
A THOUSAND HILLS
LOCATION: CENTRAL /EAST AFRICA POPULATION: 12 MILLION CAPITAL: KIGALI
GENOCIDE
RWANDA, 1994 In the course of one hundred days nearly one million Tutsis and some moderate Hutus were massacred Thousands of children were left as orphans Thousands of women were raped and infected with HIV/AIDS
Deep betrayal swept through Rwanda in 1994, leaving what seemed a forever broken society
But where there is darkness, there is grace to overcome it

It wasn’t long before I was packing my bags to actually go to Rwanda.
God chose Murindi
for Hope Haven
We asked a local leader
what their greatest need was and he told us
they had no school
It was then that God gave me the vision to start Hope Haven

MEET A FEW STUDENTS These siblings are some of our first attendees at Hope Haven. The children are living with their grandmother who is their primary caregiver. The children’s father left the family to get remarried and their mother leaves for prolonged periods of time. The children had never attended school and the oldest was almost seven. They have no means of transportation, and malaria infections affect this family often, as well as other diseases that are common in this community.
The children’s first school photos are on the left.
The siblings have been attending school for two years now.

MURINDI HAS LOW ACCESS TO:
EDUCATION, JOBS & HEALTH CARE Murindi is on the outlying area of Kigali, the capital, but there is a huge difference in living standards. Murindi is one of the poorest communities in Rwanda. Living conditions are at a bare minimum. Murindi is lacking what we would consider basics, such as access to fresh water. Under 1% of the population in Murindi has access to water in their homes.
Many of our villagers have never ventured into Kigali. There is no hope for bringing this community forward into the modernization of their country without education. Before Hope Haven, there was no school in this community. Education, in many forms and at different age levels, is our priority.
NATE KEMPTON IN COUNTRY DIRECTOR Nathan is a specialist in both construction management & techniques as well as permaculture. He lives on the Hope Haven site in Murindi and has a keen knowledge of the surroundings & families he serves. He has done an outstanding job of managing engineers and over 100 local workers on the site since March of 2013. He has also has developed our permaculture program which teaches locals how to make the soil more productive. We have approximately four acres of land dedicated to growing our own fruits, green vegetables, maize, beans and potatoes. Our program allows the community members to both earn school fees for their children in HHR, and to learn about sustaining themselves and making a living with improved agricultural methods. The food produced on our ground goes mostly to our teachers and students when we serve food daily at the site.
LIZ INGABIRE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION Liz has been with Hope Haven from the beginning. She is our Director of Education. She is passionate about our families and their children, and really knows how to navigate low living standards. Liz grew up as a Rwandan refugee in Uganda and was raised, for the most part, in an orphanage. She knows the pain and suffering this life causes, but has also had the tenacity and intelligence to put herself through primary and secondary school, as well as college. Liz is a high achiever and has a “can do” attitude with the parents. She doesn’t let their poverty be an excuse for under achievement. She does an excellent job of creating a productive work enironment for her teachers where they thrive in professional development classes. Liz has done her own professional development in the US, and loves learning this profession and guiding the education program at Hope Haven.

EDUCATION
Education provides a link to future success. Hope Haven’s goal is to make it possible for families to eventually becom productive members of their country and the global community. Our vision is to provide education starting with the youngest children (3 years) and continuing to include each grade level through 6th grade. Our plans include professional education classes for educators, modern farming methods, hospitality training for city jobs, health education, high quality construction practices, and technology.
“
For the youth to take their proper role in leadership, it must start early. You don’t wait for tomorrow. You start as early as possible, it starts with individuals, then groups, then it goes up to the level of the nation and beyond.

BEGINNING OF
CHANGE
We are developing courses and curriculum now to enable change for families and the community. Adults and older children, who have serious gaps in their education, will have access to vocational training, entrepreneurial instruction, math and literacy education.
THIS IS THE
BEGINNING OF
CHANGE
As Hope Haven Rwanda develops and matures, the goal is to lift up the entire family through education and the love, hope and truth of Jesus... Breaking the cycle of poverty.

IS THIS TOO MUCH
FOR AN AFRICAN NATION? “From an investor standpoint, Africa is quite interesting,” says Coors (of the Coors Brewing Company). “It has enormous potential, with people beginning to move into the middle class for the first time. If you think about China maybe 30 or 40 years ago and what’s happened over that period of time, I could easily imagine the same thing in Africa.” “The investment thesis to us is focusing on the undeniable growth of the middle class across multiple countries within Africa,” Jordaan says. “Six of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa. You’re seeing more political stability and more investor-friendly environments across the continent.”
“When we are unified, working together, no challenge is insurmountable. -President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame
