Summer Romance

There are countless ways to initiate a summer romance. Some relationships are unplanned and appear unexpectedly, while others begin after hopeful contemplation and preparation. When anticipating finding a new love, make sure you are in the right place at the right time. If you already have your eye on someone, it can be useful to make it known that you are available. In addition, making an effort to spend time in his or her company can give a relationship a chance to develop. Where to meet Summer romances can begin after a chance meeting in a park, while walking on the beach, or drinking coffee in a sidewalk cafĂŠ on a sunny afternoon. However, you can be sure they cannot emerge if potential lovers sit at home twiddling their thumbs and daydreaming. To be able to meet someone special, you need to make yourself available. Spend time in places where people gather during the summer for enjoyment. Places such as the beach, where they sunbathe and intend to spend hours, are a good choice.

Adopt the right attitude Be friendly and smile at strangers. Show that you are open to meeting new people and be approachable. Do not be afraid to make light conversation, if the time seems right and it feels natural to do so. Even if you make small talk with people you do not immediately feel a connection with, it could lead to an introduction to someone you‘d like to meet. Be yourself Do not try too hard, as you will come across as being unnatural and odd. Instead, relax and be yourself. This way, you are more likely to attract someone with whom you share an affinity. Refrain from using cheesy chat-up lines, or making a big effort to create a good impression. The right person for you will like you as you are. When you have someone in mind If you already feel attracted to someone in your social circle, and want to get to know them better, attend events where you suspect they will be. You can also invite them to parties, along with mutual friends, and orchestrate more opportunities to become better acquainted with them. Once you find yourself at the same event as them, be friendly and open. Ask them questions about themselves. At the same time, gain eye contact while smiling, so that they know you are interested. If they feel the same as you, they will indicate their interest by spending more time with you and being friendly. Most summer romances begin naturally and unexpectedly. However, you can increase the probability of engaging in one, by making sure you are in an excellent location to meet someone new, and by showing that you are approachable and affable.

Interview with DAVINA ADJANI HR: How was the hole in your heart discovered? DA: I was born at a very healthy weight. However, as the months progressed, I did not gain weight, but lost it. The doctor dismissed the situation, but my mother, whose intuition told her to seek a second opinion, took me to another physician. He discovered a hole the size of a quarter in my heart. This doctor informed my mother that I needed surgery or I would die. HR: What were the symptoms? DA: There were no visible symptoms other than not gaining weight. For six months, I weighed six pounds; it was quite evident that I wasn’t well. HR: How did your mom and dad handle such a delicate emotional matter? DA: My parents moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area from Beverly Hills to stay close to our family there. It was a very emotional time. My parents stayed strong by controlling their emotions. I know they turned to spirituality to help stay positive. HR: Did any other family members have any heart problems? DA: My mother had an older brother who died when he was a baby. He had a chamber wall missing in his heart. Even with today’s modern medicine, they would not have been able to save him. My sister has a very small hole in her heart that doesn’t need surgery, and my other sister is completely healthy.

HR: How long was recovery? DA: The recovery was difficult, and I am relieved that I don’t remember any of it! When I returned from the hospital, my parents had bought a new house. It was important that everything around me was clean, safe, and nontoxic. My parents had private nurses around the clock and housekeepers to make sure not a speck of dust was anywhere in the house. HR: What do you think Stanford did that hospitals in Beverly Hills and the LA area could not have done? DA: Stanford was on the top of the list; however, what was most important was being close to family, and even though my parents were “doctor shopping,” they really liked the one at Stanford. The reason we didn’t stay in Los Angeles was just so my parents could be close to family in the Bay Area. HR: Looking back, how has this shaped your life, and how do you think it might shape your life in the future? DA: Well, every day when I get up and look in the mirror and put my clothes on, I see this long line running down from my collarbone to my belly button, reminding me of the surgery. I have been asked if I want plastic surgery to make it less noticeable, but why remove something I am so fortunate to see? Life isn’t a given, it is a luxury—especially for me—because I wasn’t supposed to have it, nor was I supposed to be this healthy. Doctors assumed that I would suffer some serious side effects, but when I was fourteen, the heart doctors told me that I was “too healthy” to be in their office. Because I survived, I live everyday with purpose, knowing that for some reason I am here—despite the odds—and I have this beautiful battle scar across my chest to prove it.

What advice would you give other parents or individuals facing this dilemma? DA: I don’t have the best advice. My parents were the ones facing this trying situation. I know that they turned to other resources, such as spirituality and religion, to help them deal with it, but at the same time, I know my mother was especially aggressive when it came to my surgery. She wasn’t afraid to come off as rude or “too much.” She wanted the absolute best care for me—she wanted it on the spot—and she did everything to make sure that I was in the best hands possible. What I’ve learned from her is never be afraid to remind the nurses of certain things, or asks questions. Do not be afraid; this is a life we are talking about, not shoes at Nordstrom. HR: Tell us a little about your annual charity. DA: Last year I hosted a small event, and this year I am hosting a Great Gatsby-type affair. It is a 1920s-inspired gathering at the Bubble Lounge in San Francisco. Some of the proceeds will come from drinks and items sold from Elizabeth Jamkochian, a local designer and owner of Glamorous Boutique. I chose the theme from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby because it is one of my absolute favorite books. Moreover, the 1920s was a time when barriers were broken down. My wish for this event is to have everyone enjoying themselves and cutting loose, not only to celebrate the charity, but to celebrate being alive. HR: What are your aspirations? DA: My greatest aspiration is to be a mother. I have always wanted to be a young mom. During a trip I took to visit a Kenyan orphanage, I was inspired to adopt. I would love to adopt a child from Kenya, where my father was raised, or India, in honor of my East Indian background. Along with my desire to be a mother, I would love to sit at a Wimbledon tennis match and watch Roger Federer. I would wear a fabulous hat and sip tea. I hope to continue my career in media and writing. My dream is to use the power of social media to make a difference. I do know fate has a way of upstaging me, usually giving me more than I expected, and it hasn’t let me down yet! HR

1920’s

F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gasby Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby in France, where he and his wife and daughter were to spend most of the last half of the 1920s. The novel bears almost no resemblance in form to those that had come before. In Jay Gatsby, nee James Gatz, Fitzgerald created far more than just another Amory Blaine seeking his fortune in the world, for in his misguided romantic way Gatsby stands for a deeper malaise in the culturea sickness that drives young men to think that riches can obliterate the past and capture the hearts of the girls of their dreams. Gatsby’s dream girl, hardly worthy of his romantic quest, is Daisy Fay Buchanan, wife to the safely (not newly) rich Tom Buchanan. She and Gatsby had met and fallen in love during the war, when Jay was a young officer with no money or position: eventually he took Daisy one still October night, took her because he had no real right to touch her hand. He might have despised himself, for he had certainly taken her under false pretenses. I don’t mean that he had traded on his phantom millions, but he had deliberately given Daisy a sense of security; he let her believe that he was a person from much the same stratum as herselfthat he was fully able to take care of her. As a matter of fact, he had no such facilitieshe had no comfortable family standing behind him, and he was liable at the whim of an impersonal government to be blown anywhere about the world. But he didn’t despise himself and it didn’t turn out as he had imagined. He had intended, probably, to take what he could and gobut now he found that he had committed himself to the following of a grail. He knew that Daisy was extraordinary, but he didn’t realize just how extraordinary a `nice’ girl could be. She vanished into her rich house, into her rich, full life, leaving Gatsbynothing. He felt married to her, that was all. When he went overseas, she married Buchanan. The novel tells the story of his attempt to get Daisy back some four years later. In the meantime he has made a great deal of money, partly from bootlegging liquor; Daisy has borne a daughter; and Tom has taken as his mistress Myrtle

Wilson, the wife of the owner of a garage in the ash heaps that lie along the road about halfway between West Egg and Manhattan. Told so baldly, the novel sounds like material for the pulps. But the story is not told that way at all, but through the informing intelligence of Nick Carraway, an almost perfect narrator. Clearly, Fitzgerald had been reading Joseph Conrad and discovered in his use of the character Marlow as teller of the tale a way of distancing himself from his story without sacrificing intensity. Nick Carraway functions as an ideal Marlow in The Great Gatsby, for he is connected by background to the Buchanans (Daisy is his cousin, he had been at Yale with Tom) and by proximity to Gatsby (he rents a small house near Gatsby’s garish mansion), and he hashe tells uscultivated the habit of withholding judgments. Nick does not particularly like Tom, even to begin with, but he knows and understands Tom and his milieu. At first, Gatsby is a mystery to Nick. He spends too ostentatiously and entertains too lavishly. Besides giving parties, Gatsby wears pink suits, drives yellow cars, and is in business with the man who fixed the World Series. Yet before the tragic endwhen in a case of mistaken identity for which Tom and Daisy Buchanan are jointly responsible, Myrtle Wilson’s husband kills GatsbyNick comes to see that the Buchanans were careless people ... who smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess, and he realizes that Gatsby, the bootlegger who followed his dream, was worth the whole damn bunch put together. Coming from Carraway, no saint himself and a bit of a snob, a man who disapproved of Gatsby from beginning to end as he would disapprove of any other parvenu, that judgment takes on absolute authority. Gatsby’s greatness lies in his capacity for illusion. Had he seen Daisy for what she was, he could not have loved her with such singleminded devotion. He comes to recapture Daisy, and for a time it looks as though he will succeed. But he must inevitably fail,

because of his inability to separate the ideal from the real. Everything he has done, and it is clear that much of what he has done is on the shady side of the law, Gatsby has done in order to present himself as worthy of Daisy. By crassly materialistic ends he hopes to capture the ideal girl. Toward the end, Nick reflects, Gatsby must have realized that Daisy was not the golden girl after all, that she too had sprung from the material world and was made of all-too-human stuff, but those are Nick’s thoughts, not necessarily Gatsby’s. For all Fitzgerald lets us know, Gatsby dies with his dream intact, and then it is left to Nick to arrange for the service and erase the dirty word from the steps of Gatsby’s house and clean up the mess. Though hundreds had come to Gatsby’s parties, hardly anyone comes to his funeral. His father is there, a shiftless and uneducated man who even while standing in his son’s mansion prefers to admire the photograph of that mansion. So is Owl Eyes, who had been startled to find that the books in Gatsby’s library were real, even though their pages were uncut. Like the books Gatsby was the real thing, but unformed, unlettered, and for all his financial cunning, ignorant. Like his father he preferred the picture in his mind to mundane reality. The Great Gatsby abounds in touches like these. The Great Gatsby has inspired probably as much critical commentary as any other twentieth-century American novel, but it is so intricately patterned and tightly knit, so beautifully integrated through a series of parallels, that it hardly seems possible that criticism will exhaust the novel. If This Side of Paradise resembles the Wellsian novel of saturation, where everything is included, The Great Gatsby epitomizes the Jamesian novel of selection, where every detail fits and nothing is superfluous. It’s the kind of noveland there aren’t manythat gets better each time one rereads it. The reviews for The Great Gatsby were the most favorable so far. Most notably Gilbert Seldes proclaimed that Fitzgerald has mastered his talents and gone soaring in a beautiful flight, leaving behind him everything dubious and tricky in his earlier work, and leaving even further behind all the men of his own generation and most of his elders. He praises Fitzgerald ‘s ability to report on a a tiny section of life ... with irony and pity and a consuming passion, calling the novel passionate ..., with such an abundance of feeling for the characters (feeling their integral reality, not hating or loving them objectively) that the most trivial of the actors in the drama are endowed with vitality, and he also recognizes that Fitzgerald ‘s characters become universal also. He has now something of extreme importance to say; and it is good fortune for us that he knows how to say it. Fresh from The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald wrote The Rich Boy (1926), another of his very best stories. In a sense The Rich Boy might be regarded as a form of revenge on such careless people as the Buchanans. The mere possession of a great deal of money seems to confer on Anson Hunter, protagonist of the story, certain rights and privileges unthinkable for the penurious. He drinks to excess and feels no need to apologize; he takes advantage of women and feels no remorse; he breaks up his aunt’s love affair and ignores the suicide of her lover. For all his power Anson suffers from a fatal lack of emotional capability. He cannot care about anyone other than himself. He has no illusions. He cannot love. Click this link to learn more about F. 1920’s The “Lost Generation” defines a sense of moral loss or aimlessness apparent in literary figures during the 1920s.

THE LOST GENERATION:

AMERICAN WRITERS OF THE 1920’S

During the 1920’s a group of writers known as “The Lost Generation” gained popularity. The term “the lost generation” was coined by Gertrude Stein who is rumored to have heard her auto-mechanic while in France to have said that his young workers were, “une generation perdue”. This refered to the young workers’ poor auto-mechanic repair skills. Gertrude Stein would take this phrase and use it to describe the people of the 1920’s who rejected American post World War I values. The three best known writers among The Lost Generation are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos. Others among the list are: Sherwood Anderson, Kay Boyle, Hart Crane, Ford Maddox Ford and Zelda Fitzgerald. Ernest Hemingway, perhaps the leading literary figure of the decade, would take Stein’s phrase, and use it as an epigraph for his first novel, The Sun Also Rises. Because of this novel’s popularity, the term, “The Lost Generation” is the enduring term that has stayed associated with writers of the 1920’s. The “Lost Generation” defines a sense of moral loss or aimlessness apparent in literary figures during the 1920s. World War I seemed to have destroyed the idea that if you acted virtuously, good things would happen. Many good, young men went to war and died, or returned home either physically or mentally wounded (for most, both), and their faith in the moral guideposts that had earlier given them hope, were no longer valid...they were “Lost.” These literary figures also criticized American culture in creative fictional stories which had the themes of self-exile, indulgence (care-free living) and spiritual alienation. For example, Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise shows the young generation of the 1920’s masking their general depression behind the forced exuberance of the Jazz Age. Another of Fitzgerald’s novels, The Great Gatsby does the same where the illusion of happiness hides a sad loneliness for the main characters. Hemingway’s novels pioneered a new style of writing which many generations after tried to imitate. Hemingway did away with the florid prose of the 19th century Victorian era and replaced it with a lean, clear prose based on action. H also employed a technique by which he left out essential information of the story in the belief that omission can sometimes strengthen the plot of the novel. The novels produced by the writers of the Lost Generation give insight to the lifestyles that people lead during the 1920’s in America, and the literary works of these writers were innovative for their time and have influenced many future generations in their styles of writing.

Ernest Hemingway

Historic Photos of Ernest Hemingway. By James Plath. Ernest Hemingway always appreciated the power of a picture, even when his talents lay in an economy of words. Perhaps this was because his realism required an intense reliance on the eye. A reporter and journalist before developing into a writer of fiction, Hemingway never entirely separated “the real” from “the story” in his work, as evidenced by his often quite controversial style of fusing autobiography and fiction. For Hemingway, photographs could inform fiction. “Big Two-Hearted River,” for instance, suggests how Hemingway emphasized a symbolically tangible landscape to inform a story` In his memoir A Moveable Feast, he describes Sylvia Beach’s Shakespeare and Company bookstore on 12 rue de l’Odeon, with its “tables and shelves of books, new books in the windows, and photographs on the wall of famous writers both dead and living” (31). He goes on to add that the photographs “all looked like snapshots [,] and even the dead writers looked as though they had really been alive” (31). Even as a young writer in the mid-1920s, Hemingway understood the photograph’s ability to transcend a writer’s mortality and give him a life beyond his fiction. Perhaps for this reason Hemingway was never camera-shy. Maybe he believed that photographs would sustain his mythos more than his fiction ever could. James Plath contributes to this photographic mythos in his new book, Historic Photos of Ernest Hemingway (2009). An important addition to Leo Lania’s Ernest Hemingway: A Pictorial Biography (1961) and Frederick Voss’s Picturing Hemingway: A Writer in His Time (1999), Plath’s book chronicles Hemingway’s life in pictures, revealing a writer who willingly worked with photographers to create a visual autobiography. As Plath states in his preface, Hemingway “usually gave photographers what they wanted, allowing them to document his every move and every mood,” frequently signing photos for friends and admirers (viii). Hemingway seemed to trust photographers more than reporters and critics, perhaps preferring photo shoots to the distortions of print journalism. As a result, Plath’s collection implores readers to explore the visual images Hemingway helped construct and to stretch beyond his words to understand his life fully. The strength of this book, then, is the notion that one can construct biography as a visual collage, as well as its intimation that Hemingway is an American icon as much for his omnipresence in photographs as for his fiction. 1920’s

A Short History of the Bob Hairstyle Hairstyles come and hairstyles go, but one of the most popular and classic of all looks is the so-called bob hairstyle. The bob haircut is one of the most classic of all looks, and the beauty of this hairstyle is that is flattering to many different face shapes. The bob hairstyle first came into vogue during the 1920s, when the flappers and a number of silent film stars made it popular. One of the film stars most closely identified with the bob hairstyle was Louise Brooks. Louise Brooks was a stunning, dark haired actress who was chiefly known for starring in the many silent films that were so popular during the decade which came to be known as the Roaring Twenties. Ms. Brooks came to be known as quite a trendsetter, both for her movies and her classic bob hairstyle. While the bob hairstyle never totally went out of fashion, it did fade away after the popularity of the silent film area had peaked. The bob hairstyle, however, experienced a big resurgence in popularity in the 1980s, particularly when Olympic ice skating star Dorothy Hamill sported a stylish bob haircut during the 1976 Olympic winter games.

The bob hairstyle experienced somewhat of a renaissance during the 1980s, primarily because of the enormous popularity of Dorothy Hamill during the time. It seemed that people simply could not get enough of this classic style, and at times it seemed that bob hairstyles were all we saw on the street. While bob hairstyles may not be as prevalent today as they were during the 1920s and the 1980s, the bob haircut continues to be one of the most popular with women of all ages. Many women love the looks of the bob hairstyle, and it is one of the easiest of all hairstyles to care for. In addition, the bob hairstyle can be tailored to flatter virtually any face shape, from round to heart shaped to oval. This versatility makes the bob one of the most enduring of all hairstyles. A good hair stylist will quickly be able to determine the best type of bob hairstyle for your particularly face. I myself have often worn a classic bob hairstyle, both with and without bangs, and I love how easy it is to care for. A classic bob hairstyle needs very little maintenance, making it perfect for the busy career woman, or anyone else who is pressed for time. HR

Dating TIP 1

4 Ways To Date Successfuly Dating successfully doesn’t necessarily mean finding your match quickly, but what it does mean is not wasting time on relationships that aren’t going anywhere or that are bad for you. And not wasting time means a greater chance of finding the one you’re looking for. 1. Don’t commit too quickly Finding someone you seemingly connect with early on might seem like a good reason to take yourself off of the market, but don’t do that too fast. Things often seem blissful in the beginning, but as time wears on this compatibility often wears off. So, don’t rush into committing to one person. It’s okay to let the people you see know that you’re not settling with one person just yet. Getting to know many people will give you a better idea of what you’re looking for and what you are avoiding. 2. Know your goals To find someone who wants the same things as you for life, you must know what you want. If your goal for dating is to meet someone to marry, dating someone who’s ultimate goal is to have a good time, it probably isn’t the best match. You don’t have to like all of the same things, but having something in common is al-

ways good as well as having similar goals for dating and life. 3. Date creatively You could do the same old dinner and movie dates or you could do something more interesting. If you and your date are both athletic, you could play soccer in the park or shoot hoops and have a picnic afterward. If you are both into art, a museum would make a good date. It’s important to do the things you both say you’re into. This way you’re both interested and you get to find out for real if the person is into what they say they are. Doing things you’re comfortable with makes for comfortable dates. 4. Just say no If you meet someone you’re really not into or they just have a quality you don’t like, you have to be strong and move on. No matter how much they might like you and how flattering it might be, if you’re not into them you shouldn’t feel bad for ending the relationship. Dating is all about finding someone you are into. Don’t continue wasting your own time because you are afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. HR

Dating TIP 2

Summer Flirting Tips for Men Summer is a great time for a guy to flirt. The heat of the sun and long summer evenings make the prospect of meeting a new romantic partner fun and feasible. There are plenty of hours in the day to socialize and people’s attitude is laid back and carefree. There are all kinds of ways guys can attract women without being obvious or using cheesy pick-up lines.

A guy intent on flirting should make sure he looks attractive. Wearing an unbuttoned shirt and a medallion is not a good look for any guy, even if he is brown and muscular. It is better to undo the first two or three top buttons of a shirt in order to look relaxed rather than flash body parts unnecessarily, especially when not on the beach.

Go where girls are In order to meet a girl a guy has to be where she hangs out often. Places where single girls frequent in the summer are beaches, sidewalk cafes, museums, art galleries, pool parties and barbecues. They may also be found at shopping malls, sporting events and engaging in activities from climbing to surfing.

Approaching girls Most girls are used to being approached by guys. This means that they have heard many chat-up lines before. Any guy who wants to weave a magic spell with words needs to be original. An opening line based on something funny that has just happened is best of all, but failing that a simple introduction followed by, “I love your smile and want to talk to you, but can’t think of anything impressive to say,” will suffice.

Attitude To be able to flirt successfully guys need to relax and loosen up. Intensity is fine for lovers who want deep and meaningful conversations, but can be a turn off in a guy on a first meeting. It is better to seem laid-back, confident and have a sense of humor than to take flirting too seriously. Body language Girls respond to body language as much as they do to what is said verbally, if not more. How a guy behaves when he begins flirting is important, as it can either make a girl interested or turn her away. A bright smile, rather than a frown, followed by lingering eye contact can help a girl realize a guy is interested in her.

Guys should avoid hunting for romantic partners in packs, as this is too overwhelming for most women who are less likely to engage in conversation when faced with an eager eyed group of men. It is better to flirt alone or have just one pal with you. Such a friend could easily serve as a wingman and occupy the friend of a girl you want to flirt with. Flirting in the summer can be fun. Guys can attract a romantic partner to spend time with by avoiding crummy chat-up lines, being original, using effective body language and by working together. HR

Dating Older Women

Exciting New Adventure or Recipe for Disaster? While many men are attracted to women half their age, there is something to be said for dating older women. In fact dating older women can open up a whole new avenue of adventure –and experience – for the right man. In fact dating older women can be a great way for any man to gain an instant air of sophistication and allure, and many successful men find that dating older women is a great way to meet other professionals. The Rewards of Dating Older Women Whether they are interested in casual dating or a more serious committed relationship, those men know that dating older women can have many rewards. Older women have a certain sophistication and style that their younger counterparts have not mastered. No matter how successful a young woman may be, she simply has not had the experiences that make dating older women so attractive. From a unique outlook on life to a flair for life, older women have a great deal to offer, and it is no wonder so many younger men have been rethinking their reluctance about dating older women. Of course dating older women is not the right choice for every man, and it is always important to make sure the match is a good one. When it comes to chemistry age is just one of many factors. Men who have been dating older women for many years can certainly attest to the fact that personality and compatibility are far more critical factors than chronological age. For instance, active younger men who are considering dating older women may want to look for women who are as active and athletic as they. Luckily this is easier than ever before, and many older women retain their athleticism and spirit of adventure well into their

later years. Attaining retirement age no longer means heading for the nearest rocking chair, and men who year to start dating older women with a flair of adventurous living should have no problem finding them. Dating Older Women – Where to Find Them Of course knowing where to look will help those adventurous and athletic men start dating older women who will be both great dates and suitable life partners down the road. Dating is always a difficult process, whether the men are dating older women or looking for someone the same age. Finding a suitable person to date can always be a bit dicey but there are some strategies men can use to start dating older women that compliment their own style and share the same interests. One of the best places for men interested in dating older women to start is the internet. Online dating sites are a great place to meet compatible singles of all ages, and many men and women have flocked to these online meeting places. For this reason online dating sites are a great choice for any man interested in dating older women. These sites allow both men and women to pick and choose who they want to meet, making dating both easier and more enjoyable. Online dating sites also make it easy for men and women of all ages to specify exactly what they want in a mate – from simple friendship to casual dating to a more committed relationship and eventual marriage. Men who join these types of sites are free to specify their interests, their preferences and more. This makes it easier for those men to find just the partner they want, whether they are interested in dating older women or looking for a different type of partner. HR

Dating TIP 4 Keeping the romance alive in your relationship can be difficult when you have a hectic career or a family to take care of, and even when you have the time you may not have the money to make extravagant gestures. Fortunately, with a little thoughtfulness and creativity, you can quickly and easily show your partner how much you love him without spending a fortune. Why not start with one of these ideas? 1) Write a short note telling your partner that you love him, and add one reason why you do. Hide it in his coat pocket, briefcase, book bag, or any other place in which he is likely to find it when he is not with you. 2) Without being asked, give him a cold drink after a long hot day at work, or a hot drink when he comes in from the cold. 3) Make an easy sacrifice to spend a little more time with him (for example, maybe you could record your favorite TV show, and use that extra time to partake in a shared hobby with your partner). 4) Design a custom made mug for him (you can do this online for a relatively low price). You might pick a picture of the two of you together, a quote that he really likes, or anything else that only someone who knows him extremely well would select. 5) Go for a walk together in a picturesque location, holding hands and appreciating the scenery. 6) Every day for a month (or for however long you like) write down a couple of sentences about something your partner did that you appreciated or that made you feel particularly affectionate. You can then give him the entire collection in a notebook on a birthday or anniversary, or perhaps just at any time that you feel like showing him how much you love him. 7) Compile a list of 100 things that you love about your partner (and if you are artistically inclined, you can illustrate the list with little cartoons of the two of you together). 8) Take a tip from teenagers and make him a mix CD or a play list of new songs that he hasn’t heard and that you think he will like. Alternatively, make him a CD or play list of songs that mean something to you as a couple. 9) Tell him that he is as attractive to you as he was when you first met, mentioning a few of your favorite features of his appearance. 10) Make him breakfast in bed one day at the weekend, and be sure to include all of his favorite breakfast foods. 11) Whisper in his ear that you love the smell of his skin or hair. 12) Take a little time to sit down together and look through some photographs from an important time in your life (perhaps a holiday, a wedding, the early days

of your dating, or anything else that comes to mind). 13) If he is busier than you are at some particular time, try to do more than your fair share of chores so that he has more time to relax. 14) If you have any musical skills, learn to play some songs together (for example, you might sing while he plays guitar). If you alone have musical skills, you could learn to play or sing one of his favorite songs and surprise him by performing it. 15) Take a hot bubble bath together (either candlelit or with the lights down low), then just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet for half an hour or so. 16) In public, give him a self-esteem boost by saying something complimentary about one of his qualities or abilities. 17) Buy him a small gift related to his favorite hobby (for example, if he loves golf then you could just buy him a bag of golf tees, or if he is interested in photography you could get him a new magazine that details the best new equipment, software and techniques). The goal is to show him that you support and care about his interests, even if you don’t share them. 18) When you are apart, send him a random text message that features one thing that you love about him or one thing that you can’t wait to do with him. 19) Instead of buying a birthday or anniversary card at a store, create a homemade card for him. 20) When he is doing something boring such as washing dishes or tidying, walk up behind him and give him a tender hug with your arms wrapped around his chest. After a moment, kiss his neck or the back of his head, tell him that you love him, and then let him get back to whatever he was doing. 21) Write him an email or a letter that describes ten of your favorite moments that you have experienced together. 22) Even if you have no time to make a gourmet meal or go out for a romantic dinner, set your dining table up for romance (with some pretty candles and some nice background music). 23) Encourage him to collect tickets, photographs, receipts and other items that you acquire as you proceed through your relationship, and start sticking them into a scrapbook. 24) Sit down together and make a list of things that you want to do together within the next year (this might include places you want to visit, new hobbies you want to take up, or things you want to change about your life or home). 25) Most importantly, remind him that he is the love of your life and that he is everything you have ever wanted. How to Attract the Most Beautiful Woman in the Room: A Single Guy’s Guide to Getting the Girl You spotted her the moment you walked in the room. She has a stunning smile, she’s well dressed, and she has a gorgeous figure. You can tell by the way she laughs that she is beautiful in every sense of the word. But for some reason, you’re paralyzed. You thought you knew a thing or two about the dating scene until you saw her. Truly beautiful women have that affect; you become completely intimidated and can’t even bring yourself to approach her. So how do you proceed? Don’t ignore her. How could you? She’s irresistible. The trick is to make her come to you. If she hasn’t noticed you yet, your goal tonight is to make sure that she does. Engage in a conversation with your friends, but make sure you are facing her. There should be a window in between you and your buddies, so she can see that you’re having a good time and not on the hunt for women. It’s important to make eye contact from across the room. If she’s single, she’ll be scanning the room for eligible bachelors. You should be scanning too. Otherwise, she will feel trapped, and you will seem desperate. Beautiful single women are used to sleazy men cornering them, and they become defensive immediately. The key is to show interest without getting too close. When your eyes finally meet, you are ready to take the next step. Ask your buddies what they’d like at the bar.

Don’t let them come with you; this is your excuse to get closer to her. Make eye contact on the way towards the bar, and then order your drink. The trick is to hold your glass so that she can see you are not wearing a wedding ring on your left hand. Beautiful women always check this first before approaching a man. Who wants to get involved with a married man? As you make your way back to your friends, take the long way so you can brush past her subtly. Don’t bump into her; just touch her shoulder or upper arm gently so she’ll notice. Beautiful women have heard every pickup line out there. They aren’t out to have small talk; they want to have some fun. If you want to win her over, you’ll have to do something different. Invite her to a game of pool or darts with your friends. Tell her that you need a partner, and are sure that you two can take on your buddies. Women love a little competition, and if she is shy, you’ll have a great opportunity to teach her new tricks. The hardest part is taking the time to go through the process. You don’t want someone else to snatch up the most beautiful woman in the bar, but you also don’t want to come across as aggressive. Just be sure to make eye contact and subtly brush by her before approaching the woman of your dreams. She’ll be glad to have a confident gentleman in her life. HR

Dating TIP 6

Tips for Finding a Good Man It seems that some women have all the luck when it comes to finding the best men to have a romantic relationship with. Then there are women who seem to make one bad choice after another when it comes to the men they decide to date or marry. So what do the women who make good romantic choices know that the rest of us don’t? What is the secret to finding a good man? What Do You Want? The first step to finding a decent partner is to work out exactly what it is that you are looking for. Think carefully about the personality traits that are important to you. Perhaps you are looking for a man who is family orientated, or maybe you want someone career driven. You might be looking for someone with an excellent sense of humor, a man who can make you laugh when you feel down. It could be that you are searching for a man with a good level of education with whom you can discuss current affairs. It is important to ask yourself what it is you really want in a man. Faults You Cannot Live With When deciding what it is you are searching for in a romantic partner, you must also take the time to consider personality flaws that you cannot abide. Some women despise laziness and lack of motivation. Others are turned off by bad temperedness, conceit, lack of sense of humor or stinginess. Having a clear idea of what you don’t want helps to narrow things down a great deal. Have the Right Attitude For women who are trying to find the right romantic partner, a good attitude is imperative. It is important not to act over-keen or desperate because this can be very off-putting. Yet at the same time, avoid being bitter or cynical. If your attitude is too negative you may well end up missing out on a good opportunity. The

best thing to do is relax and stop actively looking for a good man. Often when you stop looking, the best opportunities will come your way. Remain calm but open minded about new opportunities. Make Yourself Available You can’t expect to meet a good man if you never go out anywhere. That’s why it is a good idea to get out and socialize with friends on a regular basis. You might also wish to consider getting involved with more of the activities that you enjoy. For instance, if you are passionate about horse riding then make time for it. This will increase your chances of meeting a man who also loves horses. Do Not Settle For Less There is no such thing as a perfect man. Every last one of us has certain personality flaws, and quirks that other people might not find so attractive. It would be foolish to reject a good man because of one minor imperfection, especially if it is something you could tolerate. However, it would be equally as unwise to settle for someone you aren’t really attracted to just because he has made himself available. Dating can be emotionally exhausting, but if you settle for someone you don’t have the right feelings for then you will only end up hurting him. Be Realistic Some women chase men who are extremely good looking, smart and successful but do not treat the females they date very well. It seems that these women are perversely attracted to unobtainable men who treat them badly, probably because the danger and risk can feel exciting. Choosing an unobtainable man will only lead to heart ache. It is more prudent to choose a man that you find attractive but is also obtainable and respectful to women. HR

Dating TIP 7

Beauty Mistakes

That are damaging your love life It is unlikely that you will have considered whether beauty mistakes could be damaging your love life; after-all, there are so many other, more obvious factors to take into consideration. However, it is possible that your beauty routine, or lack of it, is affecting how you feel and behave, and how others, including your lover, see you. Over zealous beauty preparation If you are highly concerned over presenting what you consider the right image all the time, it is probable that you have an extensive beauty regime. If you’re a woman you may spend a great deal of time applying, and retouching your makeup, and making sure your hairstyle, color and cut are all perfect. If you are a man, you may spend hours at the gym in order to keep a toned physique, and have a beauty regime that involves primping and preening to ensure you look your best. While there is nothing wrong in making the most of yourself, beauty can become an obsession that takes valuable time and attention away from your relationship. Your love life may be adversely affected by this beauty mistake, if your partner or spouse is fed up of having to wait for you to get ready to go out, or you seem to care more about your appearance than you do them. Lack of personal care At the opposite end of the spectrum are individuals who do not consider their appearance relevant to their love life at all. They do not bother to practice good hygiene habits, rarely cut their hair or fingernails, and do not look after their body or skin. The result can be that they look far older than they are, and less attractive than they could be.

Obsession with dieting People who lack body confidence sometimes become obsessed with dieting. They follow each diet when it comes out, and count each calorie in food and drink. As a short-term measure, this could help them lose weight and gain confidence. However, once dieting becomes an obsession it can result in low self-esteem, and people may feel a temptation to put their love life on hold until they reach a desired weight. As the dieting never stops, they have no love life at all. Lack of confidence As well as constant dieting, a lack of body confidence can cause individuals to hide themselves away from prying eyes, including those of their beloved. Their love life can be adversely affected by a lack of spontaneity and physical freedom, along with a preoccupation regarding never being seen in a bad light. Personal piercing Unlucky individuals can sometimes find that attempts to spice up their relationship and enhance their beauty can result in their love life being damaged. An infected body piercing, such as a Prince Albert gone awry, can result in physical pain that spoils intimacy. Various beauty mistakes can damage your love life, if you are not careful. They range from becoming so obsessed with beauty that your beauty regime makes you its prisoner, to physical damage which stops you having a love life, or a lack in body confidence that could cause you to hide away and not become involved in a relationship. In the world of online dating, we all pretend our main concern is who the person is and what they have to say. But come on -- everyone looks at photos first. When creating your own profile, it’s tempting to only post those super flattering shots that make your skin look perfect, your waist tiny, and your hair glamorous. Who wouldn’t want to put their best face forward when you’re out to catch a mate? Set the bar too high, though, and you can only go down. That might sound harsh. But you know the business saying, under promise, over deliver? If your ultimate goal is to meet up with someone in real life, wouldn’t you rather not start off having to live up to this carefully crafted image you’ve created online? It only makes sense to present yourself as you really are, not as you might wish to be. You might even be hurting your chances. As more and more users become internet-savvy, figure-flattering tricks like taking photos from high overhead are becoming easy to recognize. Potential dates may be wondering just what you’re hiding. So, which photos should you post? Of course, one or two tasteful glamour shots are fine. But be sure to put them in along with a range of photos of you out in the real world, like at a work outing or family gathering. Also consider one or two of those random Facebook snapshots you could nitpick all day – my forehead is so shiny, the flash has so washed me out, my arms look so fat in that dress! – just to give a realistic overall perception. No matter what, your photos should be recent and reflect your current appearance. At least one should be a full-body shot. Just think: if someone is interested in you based on your everyday image, you showing up in your first date finest is going to be a pleasant surprise! It can be tough to see less-than-exciting photos as your representation out there in the your search for love. But presenting the real you is one of the smartest moves you can make. Authentic relationships are based on honesty. If you’re serious about finding a lasting partnership, this should be established from the very beginning. Don’t start off not living up to some fantasy image of a person that doesn’t exist. If your date is attracted to the ordinary, everyday you, it bodes well for a future where you’ll both see all sides of one another. HR

Dating TIP 9

What Leaves Men Cold? It is not difficult for a woman to understand what turns a man on. Most men are easily pleased, both in and out of bed. The difficulty, for some women, is in recognizing the traits and behaviors that men find off-putting. So what will make your man run away as quickly as his legs can carry him? Don’t Nag Too many women fall into the trap of nagging their partner in order to encourage what they see as positive changes. Women can nag about anything and everything. It could be that you want your man to pick his dirty clothes up off the floor and put them in the laundry basket. Alternatively, you may dislike the fact that he tends to procrastinate. Women nag about the perceived imperfections and faults that their partner has. Constantly nagging a man is a big mistake. Self improvement is always a personal choice. Nobody changes because another person demands it of them. By constantly nagging your man, you are basically telling him that you don’t think he is good enough. Stop Trying to Please Him When a woman is with a man she really cares about, she wants to make him happy. It is very important that you do not try too hard to make your man pleased with you. If you are overly accommodating, you will not pose a challenge, and men like to chase. Have your own plans, ideas and opinions. Avoid being at his beck and call. Be a challenge by giving the man in your life a little room to approach you. If a man perceives you as being overly eager and willing to please, he will think you are needy. Neediness is not an attractive trait in either gender. Watch Your Attitude Would you be willing to date a male chauvinist pig? You probably answered no to that question without giving it a second thought. Yet many women in modern society are sexist towards men. They have an officious and overbearing attitude. They make their derisive opinion of men very apparent. You may think this is being a feminist, but it comes over as prejudice against men. If your man thinks that you do not like men very much, it won’t make him feel good about being with you. He will feel undervalued and disrespected. Do not be afraid to praise your man, and show your

appreciation for the good things he does. This is not a sign of weakness, but an indication of confidence and strength. Give and Take While it is a mistake to be overly accommodating, you will also put your man off if you are excessively self-centered. Relationships are always about compromise, and we must be willing to give as much as we take. The days when women were expected to do nothing but cook, clean house and raise children are long gone, but that doesn’t mean you should focus solely on your career and do nothing at home. Men have been conditioned to see women as home makers. Modern men may be willing to compromise, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take on your fair share of household responsibilities. You will also need to make plenty of time for your partner so that he feels loved and needed. Communicate It is definitely a bad idea to nag at your man, yet that does not mean that you should give him the silent treatment instead. Many women become frosty and silent when something about their relationship with their partner is bothering them. This cold attitude does nothing to fix the issue, and it drives men crazy. If something is bothering you, speak up. Talk things through without yelling, nagging or getting upset. Once you have said what you needed to say, give him some space so that he can think about it. Try to communicate with your man just as you would a good friend. That way you will find it easier to find a solution to any problems you may have. Looking Good Men are definitely visual creatures. In other words, men get turned on by what they see. Hence a woman who does not take care of her appearance is off-putting to a man. You may be tempted to let certain things slide because you are married or in a long-term relationship with a man. This is not a good idea. Always make the effort to look your best. Dress well, stay in shape, wear makeup and visit the beauty salon. It is also a good idea to make sure that you always smell clean and fresh. Confident women who take the time to look and smell good are always more attractive to men. HR

Dating & Relationship Advice: How to Keep Your Romance Hot and Steamy The excitement of a serious relationship can fizzle out very quickly -- sometimes in just a few months or years. If you want to keep the flames burning hot, you might have to take the initiative and try to keep things interesting. Keeping a romance hot and steamy requires a bit of thought and a whole lot of creativity. Remember What Attracted Your Significant Other As we get comfortable in our relationships we tend to forget how they began in the first place. If you were wild and adventurous when you met the love of your life, that’s what you should continue to be. Why change just because you’re in a serious relationship now? Some people try to behave differently because they think it will please their new love interest, but it many cases it just makes the other person slowly lose interest. Take note of any changes you’ve made since you met your significant other and reverse those behaviors. Stay consistent and of course, remember to be yourself. Fantasies and Role Play To add a little more spice to your love life, consider getting more creative in the bedroom.

While having an innocent night in front of the television, devouring Netflix movies with your partner, casually start a conversation about your fantasies. One common element of a fantasy is role playing. Use the movie you’re watching as a jumping off point for your discussion and then take it from there. Always remember to respect your loved one’s boundaries and needs. The Element of Surprise Sometimes a pleasant surprise is all that you need to heat up your relationship. When your honey is least expecting it, surprise him or her with a sensual display that he or she will find hard to resist. That type of surprise is almost certain to relieve your partner of any stress or boredom. Maybe a great meal is all your significant other needs to get into a romantic mood. A relationship has its ups and downs, but if you make it a priority to keep things hot and steamy with your parent, you might have a lot more of the former than the latter. Be creative, communicate and stay in-tuned with your partner’s needs if you want to keep the love fire burning. HR

To maximize your creative potential you need to free your mind of routine actions and constraints. The following list contains seven tips to help you develop and express your creativity. 1. Let go of the end result. Don’t think about what you are trying to achieve, and don’t aim to create something beautiful. 2. Keep thinking about the process of discovering. Experimentation is your goal. 3. Make sure you have plenty of time and space for your creative activities. Pressure or stress have a negative effect on creativity. 4. It may seem contradictory, but performing a simple repetitive task that requires only a small amount of attention can help free up those parts of the brain responsible for creating flashes of inspiration. So, go do the dishes, and let your mind wander.

5. Don’t keep repeating the same trick. If you have discovered something that is working for you, you may be tempted to do it over and over, because you like the end result. Don’t fall into this trap. Instead, continue to explore new possibilities. 6. Keep a journal. Writing brings you closer to yourself. You can write away the concerns that are blocking your creative flow. Making mind maps helps you by creating new associations between thoughts, so you can come up with fresh creative ideas. 7. Don’t work too long on one piece. Work fast, and avoid correcting mistakes. If it doesn’t work out, just start afresh. Finally, remind yourself that every day is a fresh start, an opportunity to create something new. Creativity is limitless. You can always continue playing, exploring, and experimenting. HR
