For most of history, men’s skin care routines consisted of washing, shaving, and splashing on aftershave. This newest generation of men is learning that a good skin care routine can preserve their youthfulness, reduce acne outbreaks and ingrown hairs, and promote general good health. First impressions can be extremely important, especially in the business arena and one’s social life, and are often based on physical appearance.

“Manly” soaps like Irish Spring, and most other bar soaps, are really detergents and are bad for skin. Use a non-drying soap or soap substitute to wash the face. Once or twice a week, use an exfoliant after cleansing your face. As dead skin cells accumulate on the surface, they trap oil and dirt which contribute to rough skin and blemishes. Removing these dead cells allow fresh, new skin cells to come to the surface and you will have smoother, clearer skin.

A good skin-care routine will improve the way you look and feel. The skin is the body’s largest organ, and the primary part of our immune system that protects us from environmental pollution and the effects of heat, cold, sun, and wind. It regulates the body temperature, insulates internal organs, helps our internal organs expel excess waste products, and synthesizes Vitamins B and D. Male skin tends to be thicker and oiler than female skin, with larger pores and less tendency to wrinkle until later in life. Men often don’t get fine wrinkles like woman, but larger creases and folds in the skin. Until recently, most men regarded a skin-care routine “sissy stuff,” but many manufacturers of skin care products are developing products formulated especially for the male skin. Just like women, men have different skin types, oily, dry, or a combination, and it can be confusing trying to choose from the array of products available. A dermatologist or trained skin-care professional should be able to help you choose the right products for your skin type.

34

The Classic Male / November 2010 / TheClassicMale.com

Chemical exfoliants, in cream or lotion form, contain AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid), BHA (Bet-Hydroxy Acid), or vitamin A. These Chemicals may produce a slightly tingly sensation, or irritate sensitive skin. Physical exfoliants such as loofah sponge or facial scrubs containing tiny bits of grit (usually ground almond or walnut shells) can also remove dead skin cells and leave a fresher, younger appearance. Be careful not to Over-Abrade, which can also cause redness and irratation.

Shaving is one area where many men make mistakes that can damage their skin. Many shave “against the grain” for the closest shave, but this method can roughen the skin and contribute to ingrown hairs and subsequent infections. Shaving with the grain will reduce the chance of ingrown hair and keep the skin smoother. For special occasions, when you want a particularly close shave, shave with the grain first to remove most of the hair and then shave against the grain. Just don’t do it too often! Shave after showering, while the skin is still moist and the whiskers are softened, and lather well. Rinse the razor often while shaving; debris caught between the blades contributes to nicking.

Poor skin care can aggravate acne, but dirty skin and poor diet are not always to blame for pimples. Hormonal changes or certain medications may contribute to the problem. As tempting as it is, don’t squeeze a pimple! This can spread the oils beneath the skin, encouraging more acne, and cause infection and scarring. OTC products containing benzoyl peroxide can help dry up pimples quickly, but can be drying to the surrounding skin, so use them sparingly and only on the zit itself. Otherwise, just grin and bear it and hope the thing goes away soon! Severe cases of acne should be treated by a dermatologist. After cleansing the face and shaving apply an allnatural aftershave or herbal toner to close pores and remove any leftover residue. Don’t use products with an alcohol base, which can be drying to the skin and has no real benefit except a slight astringent quality. Apply a moisturizer after the toner. Some moisturizing products contain glycolic acid, which reduces the effects of aging. Avoid products with a mineral oil or petroleum base, which can clog pores. Those with sensitive skin may want to use fragrance-free skin care products. It is usually the fragrance that irritates the skin.

36

No good article on skin care should neglect to mention the sun’s effect on our skin. Many signs of aging including wrinkles, splotches, brown spots, rough skin and broken blood vessels can be blamed on overexposure to the sun. Use a sunblock on your face as well as on the rest of your body, and wear a hat when outdoors. Some moisturizers are available that contain sunblock, so you don’t have to spend money on two different products. The closer a part of our body is to the sun, the more UV radiation it receives, leaving the face and neck particularly vulnerable to skin cancers. A good skin-care routine does not mean you have to spend a lot of time in front of a mirror! The few minutes it takes each morning can make a difference, and help you to retain a youthful appearance and healthy skin function!

4 Ways To Let Go Of Stress There is no doubt that many of us have more stress than we can handle in our lives. Stress isn’t always bad, it becomes a problem when it’s constant and more than we can handle. That kind of stress causes us to become angry, impatient and to no longer enjoy anything we do in life, including things we used to love. 1. Reduce your work load Do you come home and seem to be the only one not relaxing? While you are cleaning, cooking and getting ready for the next day, the rest of the household is relaxing on the couch watching their favorite shows. To even things out a little more, have everyone pitch in a little. While you’re making dinner, you can oversee someone else making lunches for the next day. If you threw the laundry in the washer and dryer, ask your partner to fold them. Don’t be afraid to give your children chores. Everyone is a household should be contributing to it running smoothly. 2. Implement “me time” Unfortunately, if you don’t exercise this right no one else is going to fight for your right to it. It’s up to you to decide and then put into practice “me time.” If you’re into baths with a good book, start tonight. Let the household know that you’ll be out of commission for an hour and that you’re not to be bothered. If running is something you’ve been dying to take up again, go for it. Whatever your thing is, decide you’re going to do it and do it. 3. Exercise One of the greatest ways to let go of stress is to sweat it out. So, put on your sneakers and hit the gym. Can’t get to the gym? Go for a run. If that’s not possible either, take a walk with the family. Just get moving. It’s better than hanging around and stewing about whatever is getting to you. And while you’re working out or walking, you can’t do anything else. People will just have to fend for themselves. Don’t worry, they will survive. 4. Disconnect Well, not completely of course. But always being connected doesn’t do anyone any favors. Are you one of those people that is always contacted if someone needs something because you’re always available? You end up doing so much for others that you barely have time to take care of yourself. Stop checking your email twenty times a day. And just because you have a cell phone doesn’t mean you need to answer it at every single ring. Let your calls go to voicemail. Check your email a few times a day and only check when you have time to reply. Being able to let go of stress is vital to your health and well-being. Take time out for yourself a little each day and never be afraid to ask for help.

Motivation is what drives you. It is what keeps you going.

Do you have fire in your eyes? Do they reflect the light of your ambition, burning ever so brightly from the fire in your soul? This is your motivation. It is what drives you. It is what keeps you going in the winter time, what gets you out of bed every morning, it is what keeps you smiling. Feed your motivation. Harvest it and by all means, do not let anyone take it away from you. Here’s how: Trying to fit in: attempting to gain acceptance from our peers is natural. But this harmless attempt at praise can quickly backfire, ultimately diminishing not only your motivation but your spirit as well. Avoid forfeiting your uniqueness through unwittingly seeking praise through sameness. Remember, sometimes a search for a pat on the back can result in a swift kick in the rear (one of my first, iniquitous bosses said this to me).

Telling everyone your intentions: a recipe for disaster, this hidden agenda leaves one open to unnecessary scrutiny and possibly premature jealousy. Not only could your goal, be it short or long term, not happen the way or when you want it, spreading your intentions before they manifest into reality subjects you to immense pressure. Self-trust must be earned, and manifested dreams become the foundation for your confidence.

Drinking your worries away: no, you do not “need a drink.” This is an escape and like conventional vacations, the euphoria is temporary. Harvest permanent tranquility through positive thinking and a healthy diet. A diet high in nutrients not only serves to heal our body but it feeds our mind, our outlook. Alcohol will only impede our efforts, and reduce our ability to cope. Besides, alcohol instantly ages you; it shows on your face.

Listening to people: we all learned about Christopher Columbus in high school history class; people laughed at him, after all the world was flat. Had he listened to “people,” life as we know it, would probably be quite different. Seeking advice is acceptable, even necessary, but let this advice be useful guidance: don’t let sour grapes ruin your festivities.

Keep on smiling. It makes you more attractive.

Late nights. Late mornings: seize the day, don’t waste it away. Not only is it getting enough sleep, but when you get that sleep. Restful sleep occurs between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sleep regenerates not only our bodies but our minds and our minds are a critical key to success. It is the birthplace of creativity, the temple of constructive thinking. When rested, our minds are refreshed. Clear your mind before going to bed, by “downloading your thoughts” (thank you Deepak Chopra), into a journal. Remember, just as your mind is capable of awesome creative thoughts, it is also quite capable of driving you mad. Learn to control your mind-your thoughts--by getting your well deserved rest.

What a Woman Desires Men commonly make a few mistakes, that if corrected can lead to a much more satisfying sex live for yourself and the women in your life. Elements of dominance, presence, variety and emotion play the most important roles in a good sex life. Each of these factors can be improved upon with a little bit of practice, which is, needless to say, quite enjoyable.

That is, you will be in your head and not enjoying the moment together, which robs you of the richness of the experience. Nothing kills the mood more than a guy who is “trying” and not really enjoying the moment-to-moment experience.

First, a woman desires a man to lead her to the promised land of sexual ecstasy. The most powerful ways to do this is with masculine dominance. Lead the sexual experience however you see fit, but in a consensual manner as dominance is one of the most powerful aphrodisiacs you can naturally produce. In plain English, this means you must engage her body, not her mind. Show her how attractive and sexy you find her by taking her and having your way with her. Don’t ignore her needs either, but enjoy pleasing her the way you wish to.

One of the single most important aspects of good sex is the emotional content. Great sex often happens with someone you have strong feelings for, showing the role that emotions play in great sex. This is also the most difficult aspect for men to understand as most men can be emotionally distant during sex. Try to be emotionally authentic and you will find sex to be at its best and most enjoyable. Don’t hold back on the woman you’re with or she will sense that and hold back on you. Instead, let go and be emotional with your woman. A good emotional connection binds your physical and emotional pleasures together taking sex to the next level.

Another common mistake men make is to overthink the situation. Don’t get caught thinking about techniques in the heat of the moment. Instead focus on the how you are feeling in your body.

To sum it all up, try to remember to lead your woman in the moment, mixing it up with her to keep it interesting, while at the same time showing your true emotions. Follow these simple guidelines and a better love life awaits.

Sexual attraction is a key factor in uniting couples, but what is it that generates the desirable qualities that so many long to possess? Sex appeal can be described as a vibe – the look, sound and general aura of a person. It is a standard mix of visual and auditory signals that initially turns heads and causes hearts to pump erratically. So why is it when those standard signals are emulated by some, the outcome is not always favorable? The truth is, looking and acting “sexy” can only get you so far. The genuine art of exhibiting sex appeal and being incessantly desired by the person you long for all boils down to chemistry. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder… Have you ever dated someone that you considered to be so attractive, you couldn’t get them out of your mind? And then upon getting to know that person, the obsession quickly deteriorated because you had nothing in common? It’s called infatuation – that passionate feeling that is frequently exaggerated by fantasy, shrouding the not-so-desirable qualities by optimistically filling in the mysterious gaps. The problem with infatuation is, the manufactured set of images and scenarios mask a person’s compatibility factor with the desired individual. Eventually they realize this “perfect” person no longer turns them on – even though they continue to exhibit the same visual and auditory signals that they were initially attracted to. On the flip side, perhaps you’ve met someone whom you didn’t initially find attractive, but with repeated contact, you began to experience deep, emotional feelings towards that person. This is when something greater than the perception of external qualities is involved; it’s when a little thing called chemistry kicks in. The presence of emotional chemistry goes beyond craving a superficial, physical attachment. It is an innate longing to have a deeper connection with the desired individual, for reasons that cannot always be explained. 46

The thin line between love and hate… Contrary to popular belief, the opposite of love is not hate. As relationships bond and sever, intense emotional feelings can cause these words to be used interchangeably. When we are hurt by someone we love, we may temporarily feel hatred towards that person for causing us pain. In a tumultuous relationship, we may love someone one minute and hate them the next. It’s this lack of stability and irresolute feelings that cause our emotions to flip one way and then the other, fueling the flames of the “love/hate relationship.” Rather than hate, the true opposite of love is indifference. When you are indifferent to someone, you don’t care what they are doing, what they are thinking, or even what they think of you. That person means very little to you emotionally. But when you “hate” someone, it means you harbor strong feelings for that person. Even though the feelings are less than positive, they still weigh heavily on you emotionally. Strong, negative emotions can sometimes disguise a buried feeling of affection for someone who does not reciprocate. Unfortunately, these are the sort of relationships that are the most difficult to let go of. What makes matters worse is the intense focus on hatred can cause an individual to miss out on suitable romantic prospects that they regularly encounter. Sharing is caring… With experience, stereotypical sexual images go by the wayside in favor of something more mysterious and inherent. It’s that knowing look, a shared feeling of excitement and tension, and the abrupt change in the air when that special person is near that induces the feelings we all desire so much. So it’s important not to change who you are if what you are seeking is a long-lasting passionate relationship. Be confident within yourself and allow nature to send out those alluring signals that you already possess. If we look beyond stereotypical images, we have a better chance at finding long-lasting mutual desire and passion. And it is that shared passion for what is under the exterior that is really, truly sexy.

The Secret to Being Sexy The Inborn Quality that Leads to Desirability

47

The Classic Male / November 2010 / TheClassicMale.com

You spotted her the moment you walked in the room. She has a stunning smile, she’s well dressed, and she has a gorgeous figure. You can tell by the way she laughs that she is beautiful in every sense of the word. But for some reason, you’re paralyzed. You thought you knew a thing or two about the dating scene until you saw her. Truly beautiful women have that affect; you become completely intimidated and can’t even bring yourself to approach her. So how do you proceed? Don’t ignore her. How could you? She’s irresistible. The trick is to make her come to you. If she hasn’t noticed you yet, your goal tonight is to make sure that she does. Engage in a conversation with your friends, but make sure you are facing her. There should be a window in between you and your buddies, so she can see that you’re having a good time and not on the hunt for women. It’s important to make eye contact from across the room. If she’s single, she’ll be scanning the room for eligible bachelors. You should be scanning too. Otherwise, she will feel trapped, and you will seem desperate. Beautiful single women are used to sleazy men cornering them, and they become defensive immediately. The key is to show interest without getting too close. When your eyes finally meet, you are ready to take the next step.

The trick is to hold your glass so that she can see you are not wearing a wedding ring on your left hand. Beautiful women always check this first before approaching a man. Who wants to get involved with a married man? As you make your way back to your friends, take the long way so you can brush past her subtly. Don’t bump into her; just touch her shoulder or upper arm gently so she’ll notice. Beautiful women have heard every pickup line out there. They aren’t out to have small talk; they want to have some fun. If you want to win her over, you’ll have to do something different. Invite her to a game of pool or darts with your friends. Tell her that you need a partner, and are sure that you two can take on your buddies. Women love a little competition, and if she is shy, you’ll have a great opportunity to teach her new tricks. The hardest part is taking the time to go through the process. You don’t want someone else to snatch up the most beautiful woman in the bar, but you also don’t want to come across as aggressive. Just be sure to make eye contact and subtly brush by her before approaching the woman of your dreams. She’ll be glad to have a confident gentleman in her life.

---------------------------

Ask your buddies what they’d like at the bar. Don’t let them come with you; this is your excuse to get closer to her. Make eye contact on the way towards the bar, and then order your drink.

150 years of the Kulm Hotel St. Mortiz: a tradition that continues to be born anew It was in the year 1856 that Johannes Badrutt first took out a lease on the former Pension Faller. He then acquired the establishment in 1858 for the sum of 28,500 francs, promptly rechristened it the Hotel Engadiner Kulm, and thus opened the first hotel in St. Moritz. That pioneering spirit would never desert the go-getting hotelier. He knew that the high southern alpine valley had just as much to offer in winter as in summer. So, as early as 1864, Johannes Badrutt made a pioneer’s characteristically daring wager with the last of his departing summer guests: free accommodation until the spring, if the Engadine winter turned out to be just as sunny and enjoyable as the summer. Of course we now accept the verity of Johannes Badrutt?s assertion, so it comes as no surprise that his British guests didn’t depart until springtime, replete with suntans, and enthusiastically recounted their Alpine winter experience at the Hotel Engadiner Kulm to friends back home. The winter season in the Alps was born. The hotel drew further attention on account of its technical progressiveness. Inspired by the World Exhibition of 1878, the hotelier established a Swiss first with the installation of electric lighting. The latest waste management techniques, water closets and other engineering achievements likewise contributed to building up the Kulm’s peerless reputation. Equally important throughout the years was the sense of social occasion that the Kulm could offer. Aristocrats and figures from business, politics and the arts would flock to this majestic hotel from all around Europe to participate in summer and winter sports, masked balls, and to experience the marvels of the magic lantern. Even the 1928 and 1948 winter Olympic games were officially opened on the Kulm terrace. But there was also a dark side to the gloss and glamour. The World Wars isolated the hotel and drove it into debt, until such time as one of Badrutt?s heirs stepped in and put the old polish back into the establishment. The Kulm Hotel St. Moritz now belongs to a finance company under the aegis of the Niarchos family. Its worthy heritage is thus nurtured and guided forwards with a blend of diligence, commitment and farsightedness. Hotel pioneer Johannes Badrutt would indeed be satisfied.

The new law will not only apply to people sending from Canada, but people sending to anyone in Canada -and knowing exactly where all recipients on an email list reside is highly unlikely. “Marketers who are already CAN-SPAM compliant and are closely following the best sending practices set forth by the ISPs will already be complying with the new law,” said Dan Forootan, president of StreamSend Email Marketing. “Fortunately, StreamSend automatically includes the proper unsubscribe mechanism and all necessary email headers to make mailings compliant. We also offer several permission-based opt-in methods, and display reminders for marketers to include their proper contact information.” Email delivery services provider Return Path has provided a guide to FISA, offering advice for marketers and answering the following questions: What is FISA? The studio’s creativity – now comprised of 4 designers – has been recognized by the attribution of several international prizes. Claudio D’Amore (34), designer HES graduated from “écal” (University of Art and Design), founded Cosanova in 2005 after two years spent with Ross Lovegrove the famous London designer. COSANOVA’S APPROACH TO DESIGN IS MANIFOLD WITH DIFFERENT SPHERES Feeding from one another. 1. Watch and luxury products design – the importance of detail Montblanc, Tag Heuer, Parmigiani, Concord, Hautlence and Van Cleef & Arpels are just few prestigious brands that the studio counts as clients. Amongst the leaders of Swiss watch design, Cosanova proves its creativity, its curiosity as well as a rare attention to details, each object being perfected to its most minute aspects. 2. Furniture and everyday products design – the added value of diversity The extreme attention to detail – as prevalent in the watch design sector – is also applied to other projects: furniture, computer mouse, cellular phone…The diversity of projects on which the studio works brings inspiration and freshness to the conception of innovative products. 3. Experimental design – innovative alternatives To promote their acute sense of analysis and creativity, the Cosanova designers take the time to explore and experiment. Themes such as ecology and security are often prone to producing innovative ideas thus products. As an illustration, the « gooddog » project, an handbag with a pepper spray integrated in a lateral pocket : self defense with a twist of style. A PARTICULAR APPROACH TO THE OBJECT At Cosanova the purpose is not to create something « beautiful » but rather something « good ». To propose products with a strong design that binds the brand and the final consumer or even that emphasizes the emotions with the object.
