Pediatric oncologist, Brenda Chávez Liñán, therefore announced the warning signs that would indicate the presence of cancer in children.

According to the World Health Organization, cancer is a process of uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can appear almost anywhere on the body. The tumor usually invades the surrounding tissue and can cause metastasis at distant points in the body.

“The skin, eyes, bones, muscles, our whole organism is composed of cells that are reproducing and if that cell receives wrong information it can grow disorderly and also not fulfill its normal function,” said the doctor.

She said that the organism has the capacity to destroy cells with malformations, but there are times when, due to various factors, it does not do so, this being another factor causing multiple cancers.

FEVER THAT DOES NOT DISAPPEAR

There are many factors for a child to have a fever however there are some variations that should capture the attention of parents.

“Generally fever arises because there is an infection, sore throat, some cough, some bacteria, a virus or parasites, but when it lasts more than 15 days and nothing of

PALLOR

HEADACHE

BONE-ACHE

In any bone a tumor may appear but the most common area is in the knee or around it and is called osteosarcoma.

According to the expert it is more common in adolescents, it manifests as a localized pain that goes from moderate to intense and then an increase in volume appears.

“The problem with teenagers is that they are very shy and when they have some pain they do not say it until it is already unbearable,” she said.

She said that sometimes parents of preschool children worry about the presence of pain in the bones of both legs,

“A pain located in some part of the bone that is not removed with common analgesic and where there is a growth has to be checked, especially if it is very intense,” she revealed.

WHITE SPOT IN ONE EYE

Retinoblastoma is the most common ocular tumor and is seen as a white spot in the pupil.

Por Beatriz Flores Si en la actualidad aparecen más casos de cáncer infantil, no se debe a que haya aumentado, sino a que la información y servicios de salud están más al alcance de las personas.

La oncóloga pediatra Brenda Chávez Liñán por ello dio a conocer los signos de alarma que indicarían la presencia de cáncer en los niños.

Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, el cáncer es un proceso de crecimiento y diseminación incontrolados de células.

Puede aparecer prácticamente en cualquier lugar del cuerpo. El tumor suele invadir el tejido circundante y puede provocar metástasis en puntos distantes del organismo.

“La piel, ojos, huesos, músculos, todo nuestro organismo está compuesto por células que se van reproduciendo y si esa célula recibe información equivocada puede crecer desordenadamente y además no cumplir su función normal”, mencionó la doctora.

dad de destruir las células con malformaciones, pero hay ocasiones en que, por diversos factores no lo hace, siendo éste otro factor de múltiples causas de cáncer.

FIEBRE QUE NO DESAPARECE

Son múltiples los factores por los que un niño puede presentar fiebre, sin embargo, hay algunas variaciones que deben captar la atención de los padres.

“Generalmente la fiebre surge porque hay alguna infección, la garganta irritada, algo de tos, alguna bacteria, un virus o parásitos, pero cuando dura más de 15 días y no se encuentra nada de lo dicho anteriormente hay que tener cuidado y hacerle una revisión completa”, externó.

PALIDEZ

La palidez es uno de los síntomas más evidentes, pues se cambia el color rosáceo de la piel y se vuelve blanca, sin color.

“Es muy fácil detectarla viendo las palmas de las manos, una mano normal que está como rojita y si está pálida se ve blanca, también lo podemos notar debajo de los ojos, en los labios o en la lengua”, expresó.

Comentó que esta condición está asociada al cansancio, pues un niño con anemia regularmente está triste y cansado.

La hemoglobina es una proteína presente en los glóbulos rojos y es la responsable de colorear la piel, por eso cuando los glóbulos rojos no se producen, la piel se ve pálida, uno de los signos de la anemia (falta de hemoglobina) HEMORRAGIAS

Formadas en la médula ósea, las plaquetas también conocidas como trombocitos, son afectadas por el cáncer.

“Son unas células muy pequeñitas que cuando nos cortamos se juntan y forman un tapón, que evita una hemorragia”, explicó la especialista.

Ante una enfermedad como la leucemia, el niño va a tener sangrados donde antes no había, por ejemplo en la nariz, la boca y encías.

También aparecen moretones con facilidad y petequias, que son unos pequeños puntos de color vino, muy finos, como resultado de la falta de plaquetas.

BOLITAS Y BULTOS

El cuerpo está lleno de ganglios que pertenecen al sistema linfático los cuales se inflaman debido a la presencia de una infección, bacterias o virus.

“Cuando es un crecimiento benigno, el ganglio está blandito, se mueve, aunque puede doler un poco y medir hasta dos centímetros”, explicó Chávez Liñán.

Manifestó que por detrás de las oejas, por arriba de las clavículas, en la flexura del codo y en el hueco poplíteo, es decir, atrás de la rodilla, no deberían aparecer ganglios inflamados, ni aunque se presente

una infección, pero cuando ocurre es preciso revisar de manera integral a los niños.

La American Cancer Society afirma que es frecuente que el cáncer avance hacia los ganglios linfáticos, los cuales se endurecen y agrandan.

PÉRDIDA DE PESO

La convivencia diaria y momentos como la hora del baño permiten a los padres detectar la pérdida de peso de sus hijos.

“Las mamás se dan cuenta que el niño perdió peso porque la ropa le queda más grande, es una pérdida muy rápida, en tres meses o menos el niño puede llegar a perder hasta el 10 por ciento de su peso, por ello hay que buscar las causas”, externó.

SUDOR NOCTURNO

El sudor nocturno excesivo puede ser un síntoma asociado al cáncer.

“Es normal que los niños suden, el sudor relacionado a malignidad, es intenso, ocurre por las tardes y en las noches, el niño se duerme y despierta con la ropa, el cabello o las sábanas muy mojadas”, detalló la doctora.

CRECIMIENTO DE ABDOMEN

Chávez Liñán dijo que cuando los niños son delgados, fácilmente se puede apreciar cualquier irregularidad en su cuerpo, como el crecimiento del abdomen.

Puede ser una inflamación o área firme causada por un tumor debido a que en ocasiones, las células cancerosas crecen en la superficie de órganos que se encuentran en el abdomen, según la American Cancer Society.

“Hay que revisar bien a los niños, abrazarlos, palparlos y ver que no haya nada raro como bolitas o crecimientos que no tenían, en alguna parte de su abdomen, espalda, piernas y brazos”, dijo.

DOLOR DE CABEZA

El tumor del sistema nervioso central en los niños ocupa el segundo lugar de tipos de cáncer en los menores de 18 años, comentó la oncóloga pediatra y el síntoma más común es el dolor de cabeza.

“Generalmente se presenta en la mañana al despertar o un poco antes y con el paso del día puede disminuir, además, a veces tienen náuseas y vómito”, agregó.

Este dolor podría aumentar las sospechas de la presencia de un tumor en la cabeza, por lo que si el dolor se extiende en frecuencia e intensidad por varios días o incluso meses hay que llevar al niño a una evaluación médica.

“En el caso de los más pequeños, no expresan verbalmente el dolor, ellos lloran desconsoladamente y de forma muy intensa, incluso puedes tener un retraso en las habilidades motoras ya adquiridas. Puede haber alteraciones en la marcha, movimientos anormales de los ojos o discapacidad visual, así que no hay que descartar la atención médica”, apuntó.

DOLOR DE HUESOS

En cualquier hueso puede aparecer un tumor pero la zona más común es en la rodilla o alrededor de ella y recibe el nombre de osteosarcoma.

Según la experta es más común en los adolescentes, se manifiesta como un dolor localizado que va de moderado a intenso y después aparece un aumento de volumen.

“El problema con los adolescentes es que son muy penosos y cuando tienen algún dolor no lo dicen hasta que ya es insoportable”, manifestó.

Dijo que en ocasiones los padres de niños en edad preescolar se preocupan por la presencia de dolor en los huesos de ambas piernas, pero la mayoría de las veces es asociado al crecimiento.

“Un dolor localizado en alguna parte del hueso que no se quita con analgésico común y en donde haya un crecimiento se tiene que revisar, sobre todo si es muy intenso”, reveló.

Sin embargo, dejó en claro que el cáncer de hueso no se da por un golpe, aunque a raíz de eso acudan al médico.

MANCHA BLANCA EN UN OJO

El retinoblastoma es el tumor ocular más común y se aprecia como una mancha blanca en la pupila.

“Durante la exploración del ojo, con la ayuda del oftalmoscopio, de manera normal se observa el reflejo rojo, que corresponde a la integridad de la retina. Recordemos fotografías de hace algunos años, a veces se veía en las personas un foco rojo en sus ojos, eso es el reflejo rojo. La ausencia de este reflejo puede indicar la presencia de un tumor dentro del ojo”, agregó.

Dijo que puede verse una “nubosidad” dentro de la pupila, también puede acompañarse de estrabismo y de un enrojecimiento del mismo ojo afectado.

La experta comentó que aunque no hay un signo o síntoma con alta sensibilidad que dé la certeza de que es cáncer y ante cualquier enfermedad que no siguió su curso normal, se debe visitar al médico.

“El retraso en el diagnóstico no es tanto porque la familia no esté al cuidado o el médico de atención primaria no sepa, sino que mucho es debido al comportamiento biológico de la enfermedad, el cáncer en los niños crece tan rápido que no nos damos cuenta”, declaró.

Por eso sentenció que la comunicación entre padres e hijos y sobre todo, la revisión a los pequeños será un factor fundamental para el tratamiento oportuno del cáncer en caso de que esté presente.

The specialist in radiology Víctor Humberto Salas Mejía, defined as tumors all the “balls” or protuberances that appear in parts of the body where normally there should not be.

Salas Mejía revealed that globally the statistic is that 56 percent of all palpable tumors in the breast asymptomatic in women are benign and the vast majority are cysts or fibroids.

For purposes of study and in medical terms explained that if the protuberances measure less than two centimeters are called nodules and if the extension is greater than that measure, they are called tumors.

CYST AND FIBROMAS

The doctor indicated that the cysts are sacculations or fluid sacs, while the fibroadenomas are nodulations or solid tumors.

The fibroadenomas most people know them as “balls” of fat, when in fact, they are not.

“Perhaps it is customary and saying that to a patient assumes that it is something benign and reassures them regarding the diagnosis.

“The symptoms that condition these conditions will depend specifically on the size and location; for us in the medical language, there is an effect of more, because the size displaces the tissue, so they are notorious during the exploration,” he added.

He exemplified that if one or several fibroadenomas appear and if they are very small they may not be palpable and do not appear as a mass, if so, there is an elevation of the underlying skin or tissue and it can be felt like a tumor as a symptom, while the second one would be discomfort or pain.

“We call the discomfort or pain mastalgia and it can occur at the same time that cysts and fibroadenomas are present, but mastalgia or breast pain can also occur without these ailments,” he said.

THEY ARE NOT MALIGNANT

mas are not malignant and their normal course considers to appear grow and eventually break down on their own, they can leave a residual tissue, a calcification or simply disappear without leaving any trace.

“That’s why, as we already know what is the path of fibroadenomas as a rule, unless there is an objective or significant discomfort, we do not do anything with them and we wait for it to disappear,” he said.

He added that a very similar situation occurs with the cysts, although they present a degenerative process of breast tissue, such as gray hair or wrinkles on the face, which may appear from youth.

“In the breasts, it can occur from a very early age or late and there is no specific treatment, because it varies depending on the patient and her case, that is, if it presents with pain or not and the treatment is aimed at removing the discomfort,” he said.

He commented that there are patients who begin to debut at puberty with their breasts and with fibroadenomas at the same time; and it is there where it is examine whether it is convenient or not to perform a surgical procedure, because there is no specific age group, but it is a question of

race or inheritance.

EXCLUSIVE OF WOMEN

The doctor noted that cysts or fibroids are unique to women, these conditions occur when there is a breast tissue developed for a significant period of time.

“When there is a development of breast tissue in men is given medical or surgical treatment, so it does not reach to produce any of the aforementioned diseases,” he said.

On the other hand, he said that breast tumors are diseases that do not cause death by themselves, but the fact of not diagnosing them in time could make it difficult to detect malignant tumors.

“Whenever there is a tumor or a nodule in the breast, the idea is that we can characterize it as benign or not, as well as determine treatment and diagnose it in a timely manner,” he said.

PREVENTION

Dr. Víctor Humberto Salas Mejía emphasized the importance of prevention campaigns, so that women get mammograms and ultrasounds on an annual basis, to detect any condition in a timely manner.

El especialista en radiología Víctor Humberto Salas Mejía, definió como tumoraciones a todas las “bolitas” o protuberancias que aparecen en partes del cuerpo donde normalmente no debería haber.

Salas Mejía reveló que a nivel mundial la estadística es que el 56 por ciento de todas las tumoraciones palpables en la mama asintomáticas en las mujeres son benignas y en la gran mayoría son quistes o fibromas.

Para fines de estudio y en términos médicos explicó que si las protuberancias miden menos de dos centímetros se llaman nódulos y si la extensión es mayor a esa medida, se denominan tumores.

“Las caracterizamos en benignas y malignas, son más comunes las primeras. La gran mayoría de las pacientes que en alguna ocasión se palpan alguna nodulación o tumoración en la mama, tienen más probabilidades de que sea una lesión benigna”, detalló.

QUISTES Y FIBROMAS

El médico indicó que los quistes son saculaciones o bolsas de líquido, mientras que los fibroadenomas son nodulaciones o tumoraciones sólidas.

Los fibroadenomas la mayoría de la población los conocen como “bolitas” de grasa, cuando en realidad aseguró, no lo son.

“Tal vez sea costumbre y el decir eso a un paciente asumen que es algo benigno y los tranquiliza en cuanto al diagnóstico.

“La sintomatología que condiciona a estos padecimientos, va a depender específicamente del tamaño y su localización; para nosotros en el lenguaje médico, hay un efecto de más, ya que por el tamaño desplazan el tejido, por lo que son notorios durante la exploración”, añadió.

“A la molestia o dolor le llamamos nosotros mastalgia y puede ocurrir al mismo tiempo que se tengan quistes y fibroadenomas, pero también puede ocurrir la mastalgia o el dolor de las mamas sin que se tengan dichos padecimientos”, destacó.

NO SON MALIGNOS

El especialista comentó que los fibroadenomas no se malignizan, y su curso normal considere en aparecer, crecer y finalmente se deshacen solos, pueden dejar un tejido residual, una calcificación o simplemente desaparecer sin dejar ningún rastro.

“Por eso como ya sabemos cuál es el camino de los fibroadenomas por regla general, a menos de que exista una molestia objetiva o significativa, no hacemos nada con ellos y esperamos a que desaparezcan”, dijo.

Agregó que con los quistes ocurre una situación muy semejante, aunque presentan un proceso degenerativo del tejido mamario, como las canas en el cabello o las arrugas en el rostro, que pueden aparecer desde la juventud.

“En las mamas, puede ocurrir desde una edad muy temprana o de manera tardía y no hay un tratamiento especifico, porque varía dependiendo del paciente y su caso,

es decir, si se presenta con dolor o no y el tratamiento va encaminado a quitar las molestias”, afirmó.

Comentó que hay pacientes que en la pubertad empiezan a debutar con sus mamas y con fibroadenomas al mismo tiempo; y es ahí donde se valora si es conveniente o no realizar un procedimiento quirúrgico, porque no hay un grupo de edad específico, sino que es cuestión de raza o herencia.

EXCLUSIVOS DE MUJERES

El médico señaló que los quistes o fibromas son exclusivos de las mujeres, estos padecimientos ocurren cuando hay un tejido mamario desarrollado por un periodo de tiempo significativo.

“Cuando hay un desarrollo de tejido mamario en los hombres se da tratamiento médico o quirúrgico, por lo que no alcanza a producirse alguno de los padecimientos mencionados”, recalcó.

Por otro lado aseveró que las tumoraciones mamarias son padecimientos que por sí solas no provocan la muerte, pero el hecho de no diagnosticarlas a tiempo podrían dificultar la detección de tumoraciones malignas.

“Siempre que hay una tumoración o un nódulo en la mama, la idea es que lo podamos caracterizar como benigno o no, así co-

mo determinar un tratamiento y de esa manera diagnosticar oportunamente”, indicó.

PREVENCIÓN

El doctor Víctor Humberto Salas Mejía enfatizó la importancia de las campañas de prevención, para que las mujeres se hagan mamografías y ultrasonidos de manera anual, para detectar oportunamente algún padecimiento.

“El 44 por ciento de los pacientes con nódulos o quistes debutan o las encontramos por palpación, inclusive para nosotros como médicos a veces en la exploración es difícil determinar cuando lo tocamos si son benignos o no, por ello tenemos que recurrir a estudios diagnósticos”, explicó.

Remarcó que las mujeres mayores a los 40 años religiosamente se deben practicar una mamografía anual y ser valoradas por un médico, quien decidirá si es necesario un ultrasonido.

“Al momento de hacer un ultrasonido se debe de tener físicamente la mamografía para saber que es lo que está buscando, de no ser así es muy probable que dicho estudio no nos ayude a determinar de manera eficaz el área de interés”, explicó.

Detalló que los fibroadenomas benignos nunca se van a malignizar, además de no están relacionados con cáncer, por lo que el médico estudiará la situación. La edad de la paciente, si es muy joven o en edad avanzada, éstos crecerán por estímulos hormonales continuos, que ocurren en las mujeres durante sus periodos de menstruación y ovulación.

RECOMENDACIONES

El médico recomendó que siempre que se detecte algo irregular en la mama, se debe acudir de inmediato al médico, puede ser algo sin importancia, pero no se debe ignorar.

“Si encuentra algo distinto o anormal, acuda a un valoración médica y posteriormente recurra a alguna exploración, método de imagen o cualquier otro estudio para diagnosticar de manera correcta cualquier padecimiento”, detalló.

CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS OF LITHIASIS

El cúmulo o agrupación de cristales que forman una masa dura en las vías urinarias a consecuencia de una cristalización de los solutos que se encuentran dentro de la orina, es la definición de litiasis de acuerdo con el urólogo Javier Salomón Alvarado Doria.

“En general se forman los cristales por una predisposición genética, o bien, por una conducta alimentaria nociva; por un problema de disminución en la ingesta de líquidos, precipitando los minerales que se van juntando y se adhieren formando un calculo urinario”, explicó el especialista.

Varían en sus dimensiones desde muy pequeño, que permite que salga libremente; o tan grande que no pueda salir por la vías urinarias y requiera un tratamiento especial para su eliminación.

Además de enfermedades concomitantes, es decir, que otros padecimientos agregados que tenga el paciente serán determinantes para saber que tipo de tratamiento se le dará; así como saber si es un padecimiento bilateral, etcétera.

LOS TRATAMIENTOS

De acuerdo con Alvarado Doria, los tratamientos médicos van dirigidos generalmente a pacientes que no tienen enfermedades agregadas, que su dolor es fácil de mitigar con analgésicos y que tienen buen semblante lo que significa que el cálculo no esta causando gran obstrucción urinaria.

Los cálculos son muy variados, su ubicación y colocación definirá el tratamiento a seguir; ya que la vía urinaria empieza desde el riñón, uretero, vejiga y la uretra; y en cualquiera de éstas se puede alojar el cálculo.

“Si el paciente tiene un dolor intratable, difícil de controlar, si el cálculo es mayor a 5 milímetros, colocado muy alto y el grado de obstrucción causado es importante, si el paciente es diabético, si hay un proceso infeccioso agregado, ese paciente tiene que ser desobstruido y tiene que tratarse de una forma diferente, es decir, de forma quirúrgica”, detalló el doctor.

“Los procedimientos van desde la colocación de un catéter, es decir, la colocación de un tubo, del riñón a la vejiga, que funge de puente para la orina entre estos dos órganos y aunque esté el calculo urinario ahí, el liquido seguirá su trayecto normal”, señaló.

El médico refirió que otro tratamiento es por vía endoscópica, mismo que se utiliza cuando el tamaño es muy grande o el grado obstructivo del cálculo es muy importante sin oportunidad de que pueda salir solo.

“Estos cálculos se tratan de manera endoscópica, es decir, introducirse por medio de cámaras a la vejiga dentro de las vías urinarias, sin hacer ninguna incisión al paciente y por medio de esta técnica romper la piedra con un láser ”, apuntó el galeno.

Añadió que hay diferentes tipos de aparatos que por medio de su láser se utilizan para romper los cálculos, si éstos son de hasta dos centímetros, se puede hacer por la vía interna, con una alta tasa de éxito utilizando un litotriptor láser holmio para fracturarlo por vía endourológica.

“Si el paciente tiene cálculo grande y obstructivo causando daño a la función del riñón y aparte tiene enfermedades agregadas es candidato para la utilización del láser. Una de sus ventajas es que rompe cualquier piedra y gracias a las tomografías ahora podemos saber que tan dura es una piedra y así romperla para fragmentarla y ayudar a su eliminación”, puntualizó.

Desde hace dos años y medio se tiene esta novedosa técnica con láser y es uno se los tratamientos más nuevos con los que se cuanta en la región que además ha sido recibido de manera excelente por los pacientes.

Finalmente explicó que si el cálculo es muy grande también se puede realizar una cirugía percutánea, es decir, hacer un orificio desde la piel directamente hasta el riñón guiado por unos aparatos, como el fluoroscopio y por medio de contraste luego de perforar la piel en la parte posterior del abdomen y dirigirse a las cavidades del riñón

te posterior del abdomen debajo por las costillas a un lado de la columna, generalmente baja hacia la parte de delante de abdomen y en ocasiones se refiere a los genitales, casi siempre viene acompañado de nausea y vómito”, apuntó el urólogo.

Alertó que cuando está muy abajo el cálculo que ya esta cerca de la entrada o en la pared de la vejiga, aún sin caer en ella propiamente, dicho órgano lo detecta y entonces empieza a tener trastornos urinarios como el aumento de la frecuencia urinaria y ardor al final de la emisión.

PREVENCIÓN Y RECOMENDACIONES

FACTORES DE RIESGO DE LA LITIASIS

“Actualmente se ve más en el hombre que en la mujer por cada tres enfermos dos son hombres y el sedentarismo afecta considerablemente para padecer litiasis. Aunque el factor principal es la poca ingesta de líquidos”, comentó.

Especificó que la mala educación en cuanto a la ingesta de líquidos produce orinas muy concentradas y a su vez crea una predisposición muy importante a que se precipiten los solutos como: calcio, fósforo y todos los electrolitos que se encuentran en ella, formando la cristalización que contiene los cálculos.

“Si nosotros tomáramos suficientes líqui-

dos para producir un litro y medio de orina durante el día eso sería suficiente, para identificar cuando lo es, la orina es clara y sin olor”, especificó.

CAUSAS Y SÍNTOMAS DE LA LITIASIS

Principalmente las causales del padecimiento pueden ser hereditarias, así como o un problema de absorción intestinal, sobre todo, del calcio o del oxalato; pueden ser por la producción excesiva de las sustancias del cuerpo que hacen que se formen los cálculos.

“También a causa de falla en las glándulas, como la paratiroides, que no es muy común, pero cuando se presenta es muy severo; además de propiamente problemas del riñón, así como la inactividad, tener mucha resorción ósea que provoca delgadez en los huesos y sale mucho calcio al organismo”, reveló.

Los síntomas con los que se presenta generalmente son cólico renal o cólico renoureteral, que inicia súbitamente en minutos y no es progresivo, es decir, puede desaparecer y aparecer intermitentemente.

NO ES MORTAL

El urólogo Javier Salomón Alvarado Doria, manifestó que aunque no es un padecimiento mortal sus consecuencias si pueden ser fatales, pues dejan de funcionar los riñones y si no hay un tratamiento para esa enfermedad renal, el paciente puede fallecer.

“Por ello la importancia de que si se tiene un calculo el paciente se trate y que puede ver el resultado final, si lo expulso o no, para estar seguros de que los riñones estén funcionando correctamente al final del tratamiento”, aseguró.

Principalmente recomendó darle seguimiento a todos los padecimientos en niños ya que puede ser posible sea a causa de un trastorno hereditario importante o una malformación o alteración en la vías urinarias.

La temporada de frío ya pasó dando paso a las altas temperaturas y para refrescarse nada mejor que darse un buen chapuzón en una alberca, pero ¡aguas! primero deberá tomar algunas precauciones para no afectar su salud.

Los días de sol y calor pueden ser muy agradables dentro de una alberca en donde chicos y grandes desean realizar actividades deportivas.

Sin embargo, antes de ingresar a ésta hay que considerar si su salud o la de su familia no están en riesgo, por ello la médico general Cinthia Gutiérrez Rodríguez, emitió algunas recomendaciones.

4Nunca deje de vigilar a los niños en la alberca.

4Revise que los mosaicos de la alberca no estén enmohecidos.

4No ingrese si el color de la alberca es verdoso.

4Tome un baño antes y después de ingresar al agua.

LA APARIENCIA DEL AGUA Y ALBERCA

El color del agua puede dar una idea de en qué condiciones se encuentra, si está limpia, en buen estado y es recomendable sumergirse en ella.

El color de los mosaicos, su revestimiento, incluso la luz y la profundidad es importante tomar en cuenta.

Aunque también puede deberse a cambios en el PH del agua que puede originar un color verdoso y provocar reacciones químicas al combinarse los desinfectantes, el sudor y desde luego la orina.

La doctora dijo que los pisos y paredes de la alberca deben estar libres de moho y de una biopelícula que luce como una capa gelatinosa, formada por el crecimiento de microorganismos, por ello de ninguna manera debe haber materia flotante.

Agregó que la alberca debe contar con circulación de agua durante su operación o de lo contrario, con un equipo de filtración.

Es ideal que se cuente con un área de ves-

tidores, con servicios sanitarios y regaderas al alcance de los usuarios; así como un reglamento que incluya las medidas de seguridad y protección de salud.

PARA PREVENIR ENFERMEDADES

El cloro, que es una sustancia necesaria en la alberca para su limpieza, no debe ser utilizado en cantidades que no sean las adecuadas, pues pueden ocasionar daños a la piel y ojos, pero el mayor problema es cuando se combina con algunos fluidos corporales.

“La combinación de la orina y el sudor con cloro provoca una reacción que se llama cloramina y causa daño en la piel, irritaciones oculares, nasales y hasta problemas respiratorios”, advirtió la doctora.

También puede ocasionar tos, alergias, asma, infecciones gastrointestinales e infecciones vaginales, así como en la piel, oídos y ojos.

La temperatura del agua también es importante y aunque a veces el ambiente sea demasiado caluroso el agua aún está fría y eso puede provocar la proliferación de bacterias y hongos, hasta hipotermia.

“Lo ideal es que la temperatura del agua se encuentre entre los 24 y 28 grados centígrados”, expresó la entrevistada.

Para proteger los oídos en caso de inmersión, pueden utilizarse tapones auditivos y los niños usar flotadores para que estén más seguros, aunque tampoco es una garantía de ello.

“Pueden servir como apoyo, pero aún con

ellos nunca hay que dejarlos solos o perderlos de vista ni dejar de vigilarlos pues puede voltearse el flotador o disminuir sus movimientos (y ahogarse)”, apuntó.

Mucho se ha hablado sobre el tiempo que debe pasar desde que se ingiere un alimento hasta que se ingresa a la alberca, sin embargo, Gutiérrez Rodríguez dijo que es un mito que deban esperarse varias horas para hacerlo.

It is considered unique in its kind in the state because it was built in the former Andonegui prison with an investment of nearly 300 million pesos.

Un nuevo espacio llegó a Tampico para divertir a chicos y grandes, se trata del “Barco, Museo del Niño”, para conocer la historia, cultura, ecología y muchas cosas más.

Es considerado único en su tipo en el estado, pues fue edificado en el antiguo Penal de Andonegui con una inversión cercana a los 300 millones de pesos.

Casi un siglo después de haber sido construido originalmente como un reclusorio, el edificio está ubicado en la colonia Obrera de este municipio.

El espacio cuenta con más de 3 mil 400 metros cuadrados de construcción, con salas museográficas, cinco salas de exhibición, biblioteca, mediateca, taller, área de juegos, foro artístico, tienda de souvenirs, cocina y restaurante.

Congenital immunodeficiencies, like acquired immunodeficiencies, are more frequent in the journals of specialists. Factors such as environmental impact, eating habits and genetic patterns affect the appearance of unusual diseases and infections, which are now channeled thanks to advances in medical science.

By José Manuel Meza In 1976 John Travolta starred in “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble,” a movie based on a real-life case that quickly became a blockbuster.

He portrayed the condition of David Vetter, a child from Houston, Texas, suffering from a rare disease called Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which prevented him from developing his own defenses against environmental bacteria.

Nasa built him a heated sphere, where he remained for 12 years. He died shortly after a bone marrow transplant.

By then the universities of the United States were working hard to prepare new specialists who could help patients like Vetter to find a cure or have a better quality of life.

More than four decades have passed and now diseases like this and others that were previously very difficult to control are given greater importance.

These are allergies and diseases of immune origin, according to Alejandra Ivonne Ramírez Gallegos, who is a surgeon at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (UANL), specializing in Pediatrics at the Central Hospital of the North of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

The doctor, who also has a subspecialty in Allergy and Clinical Immunology from the National Institute of Pediatrics of Mexico City, explains that the progress of technology has allowed doctors to have better resources and tools to conduct studies and select the better treatments.

“Allergies have been increasing because of climate change as well. In addition, we begin to observe alterations when the foods are more processed, like all this that we are seeing that takes more chemicals and obviously begins development of allergic diseases, because when one is exposed to certain substances can become sensitive and present reactions,” he warns.

Alergias y enfermedades raras Las inmunodeficiencias congénitas, al igual que las adquiridas, están con mayor frecuencia en las bitácoras de los especialistas.

Factores como el impacto ambiental, hábitos alimenticios y los patrones genéticos inciden en la aparición de inusuales males e infecciones, que ahora ya son canalizados gracias a los avances de la ciencia médica.

Retrató el padecimiento de David Vetter, un niño de Houston, Texas, aquejado por una extraña enfermedad llamada Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Combinada Severa, la que le impedía desarrollar defensas propias contra las bacterias del medio ambiente.

La Nasa le construyó una esfera climatizada, donde permaneció por espacio de 12 años. Murió poco después de un transplante de médula ósea.

Para entonces las universidades de Estados Unidos trabajaban a marchas forzadas para preparar nuevos especialistas que pudieran ayudar a pacientes como Vetter a encontrar la cura o tener una mejor calidad de vida.

Han transcurrido más de cuatro décadas y actualmente se le da una mayor importancia a enfermedades como esa y otras que antes eran muy difíciles de controlar.

Se trata de alergias y padecimientos de origen inmunológico, según detalla Alejandra Ivonne Ramírez Gallegos, quien es cirujano de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo

León (UANL), con especialidad en Pediatría por el Hospital Central del Norte de Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

La doctora, quien también tiene una subespecialidad en alergia e inmunología clínica por el Instituto Nacional de Pediatría de la Ciudad de México, explica que el progreso de la tecnología le ha permitido a los médicos disponer de mejores recursos y herramientas para realizar estudios y seleccionar los mejores tratamientos.

“Las alergias han ido en incremento por el cambio climático también. Además comenzamos a observar alteraciones cuando los alimentos son más procesados, como todo esto que estamos viendo que lleva más químicos y obviamente empieza un desarrollo de enfermedades alérgicas, porque cuando uno se expone a ciertas sustancias puede hacerse sensible y presentar reacciones”, advierte.

La especialista detalla que ante un menor consumo de leche materna durante los primeros meses de vida, mayores son las probabilidades de que un niño desarrolle enfermedades alérgicas.

“Hace algunos años hubo un declive en la prevalencia de lactancia en el país, lo cual se vio reflejado en una Encuesta Nacional de Salud, pero recientemente hemos mejorado

en parte gracias a las campañas a favor de la lactancia, aunque todavía hay mucho camino por delante”, añade.

Los alimentos que la gente puede creer que son sanos como las frutas y verduras no quedan exentos de contaminación por herbicidas. Un ejemplo contundente es el de los productos Monsanto de la farmacéutica alemana Bayern, envueltos en una controversia de ese tipo.

“Porque empiezan a tener más químicos y aunque nosotros pensamos que son buenos pueden llevar sustancias que nos hacen más susceptibles a poder presentar enfermedades”, comenta. ¿QUÉ TIPO DE PADECIMIENTOS?

La alergóloga manifiesta que algunos de los males más comunes en niños son la rinitis alérgica, una inflamación en la nariz que provoca estornudos, escurrimiento y congestión nasal.

“Otra de las enfermedades de mayor frecuencia es el asma bronquial o alérgica, que presenta tos constante, al correr o, a veces, cuando la persona se ríe o está diciendo que tiene tos por las noches.

“Esa es otra de las enfermedades comunes de la infancia en cuanto a la alergia, pero también la dermatitis atópica, cuando salen muchas ronchitas en la piel, que se están rascando a cada ratito; también tienen un origen alérgico y a éstas pudiéramos llamarles como las tres enfermedades más relevantes en cuanto a la alergia”, enumeró.

Otra de las ramas que son objeto de estudio para Ramírez Gallegos es la inmunología, la cual se asocia con las células de la sangre que ayudan al ser humano a protegerse con anticuerpos contra virus, bacterias, hongos y parásitos.

“Hay casos de niños que nacen sin estas defensas que son los linfocitos, sin neutrófilos, inmunoglobulinas. No hay nada en el organismo que pueda ayudarles a resguardarlos y presentan infecciones frecuentes.

“Esto es real. David Vetter, ‘El Chico burbuja de plástico’ nació en 1971. Un año antes hubo otro chiquito (Jeffrey Modell) con inmunodeficiencia, pero en ese entonces no se conocía mucho de estas enfermedades. A él lo introdujeron en una cápsula acondicionada y si salía se iba a enfermar.

“Entonces, le estuvieron administrando medicamentos a través de esta burbuja. Los papás no podían tocarlo, solamente podían hacerlo a través de unos guantes que estaban estériles al interior, pero no existía más contacto con él, por el riesgo de que pudiera presentar un proceso infeccioso”, describe.

APORTARON CONOCIMIENTO

Sin embargo, esos casos han sido muy estudiados por la comunidad médica, de tal manera que se han logrado importantes avances para poder atenderlos en esta área de la salud.

“Hasta el momento existen más de 300 defectos genéticos encontrados y ya establecidos que nos desarrollan una inmunodeficiencia primaria congénita”, refiere.

Esto quiere decir que se nace con la enfermedad, mientras que las adquiridas, son aquellas como por ejemplo, el Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH), pero ambos llevan al paciente a presentar un descenso en las defensas al grado que cualquier infección puede ser muy grave.

“Otra de las inmunodeficiencias secundarias es cuando un paciente tiene cáncer y le deben dar tratamientos muy fuertes que matan las defensas del cuerpo y se desarrolla una inmunodeficiencia secundaria también, pero existen muchas otras causas.

“Las que más nos preocupan son estas congénitas, porque probablemente al momento de nacer el bebito puede verse en buenas condiciones, pero más adelante va presentando los síntomas de estas enfermedades muy graves”, agrega. “¿Qué es lo que pasa?, que el niño tiene infecciones frecuentes, por bacterias, virus y hongos que en condiciones normales no causan una manifestación tan importante.

“Mientras a nosotros los síntomas nos duran tres días a ellos pueden llegar a matarlos, aunque no todos tienen el mismo nivel de gravedad”, sopesa.

LIMPIEZA ES FUNDAMENTAL

La especialista define que estas enfermedades de tipo inmunológico todavía no se conocen mucho, por lo que es importante hacer difusión, dado que es muy probable que la gente no sepa que sus hijos entren en esa clasificación.

“Si tiene tres o cuatro neumonías en un año y es muy posible que pueda estar atravesando por este tipo de males.

“No todos son graves como la del niño burbuja, que si salía de ahí iba a fallecer. Hay varios niveles. En algunos casos les puede dar una que otra neumonía y si le administramos medicamento por la venita el niño puede mejorar. Pero existen también las más agresivas. Hay muchísimos

tipos de enfermedades, unas más frecuentes que otras, pero es importante conocerlas”, manifiesta.

Para ello, enfatiza, existen tratamientos, pero primero se revisa cuál es la sintomatología para saber si el paciente debe someterse a medicamentos inhalados o tópicos; intra nasales o tomados.

“Es importante poner especial atención a los ácaros del polvo, que se encuentran en la alfombra, en las cortinas, en nuestra misma cama, en nuestra almohada, en nuestras cobijas, cosas que se mantienen en un solo sitio, que están apiladas. Si las dejamos ahí mucho tiempo va a empezar a haber polvo y obviamente todo esto puede causar más riesgo de que un paciente tenga alergias.

“Hay que hacer un cambio frecuente de la ropa de cama, de preferencia que no haya muchas alfombras en casa, los niños que tienen muchos peluches, se sugiere no tenerlos, porque ahí se concentran los gérmenes”, recomienda Ramírez Gallegos.

¿CÓMO DETECTAR UNA INMUNODEFICIENCIA? 4La fundación Jeffrey Modell, que en Estados Unidos fue fundamental para que creciera la investigación de las enfermedades que afectan al sistema inmunológico, ha publicado 10 señales de alerta para ayudar a detectarlas.

“Nos explica en el cuadrito que un niño que tenga cuatro infecciones o más de oídos en un año, nos puede estar avisando. Que presente dos o más infecciones de sinusitis en un año, dos o más meses tomando antibióticos sin que el paciente mejore, dos o más neumonías que son infecciones en los pulmones.

Dificultad para aumentar de peso o crecer nos podría llamar la atención.

“Abscesos profundos, que tenga aftas frecuentes en la boca o que requiera antibiótico por la venita para poder retirar un proceso infeccioso; la sepsis, que es cuando tenemos una infección en la sangre directamente y antecedentes de que haya alguien en la familia con una de estas enfermedades también.

“Si existen dos o más síntomas en un paciente tenemos que descartar una inmunodeficiencia primaria”, expresa la doctora del hospital Santander de Reynosa Alejandra Ivonne Ramírez Gallegos.

Menciona que cuando los niños presentan infecciones se afecta su calidad de vida, al igual que la forma en cómo se desenvuelven con el resto de la gente.

“Empiezan a faltar más a la escuela, dejan de tener amiguitos.

Luego, si los tenemos que mandar con cubre bocas a la escuela, para no contagiar al resto de las personas, empiezan a decirles cosas, a molestarlos con apodos, los aíslan mucho y obviamente para los papás sí es desgastante, porque hay que cuidarlos de más en comparación con otros niños”, ilustra.

Justamente abril fue el mes de concientización a nivel mundial sobre las inmunodeficiencias primarias, en las que se advierte que no es normal que un niño presente infecciones de manera reiterada y que requiera de hospitalización para que mejore.

Por ello, la importancia de que la población en general conozca la existencia de estas afecciones y que el hospital Santander de Reynosa cuenta con la mejor tecnología y el personal más preparado para brindar este tipo de atención.

By José Manuel Meza Much has been said that diseases do not respect races, ages or economic position; however, there are a couple of congenital physical defects that, despite advances in science, continue to be recorded and that largely have to do with social cultural issues.

Such affect primarily a segment of people, regardless of what nationality they are, and according to Alfredo Cedillo Ollervides, the maxillofacial surgeon by the Specialties Hospital of the National Medical Center La Raza of Mexico City can be hereditary.

“It means that a patient with harelip, cleft palate or both, has a very high probability of passing the disease to their offspring.

“Very important factors come into play, such as the age of the parents, the malnutrition of the parents and an issue that exists especially in the rural areas of consanguinity, when the relatives marry each other and have offspring,” he said.

The also dentist from the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT), with more than 30 years of experience, stressed that consanguinity plays an important role.

“The fact that the parents have problems of malnutrition during the pregnancy stage hints at social status. In a very high percentage, this problem occurs in an unprotected social class with a low socioeconomic status, because that is where the cultural, educational and malnutrition aspects come in.

DISEASE IN FIGURES

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) it is estimated that around the world one in 500 newborns results with congenital defects such as harelip and cleft palate.

In Mexico the incidence is one for every 800 children on average and these occupy the first place of all congenital malformations, according to the Mexican Dental Association (ADM).

However, the specialist mentioned that a person with a cleft palate does not necessarily have a harelip or vice versa.

“In fact for both purposes and for both didactic and therapeutic purposes there are

classifications: a person can have only harelip or only cleft palate or both.

“And inside the hoop and palate there are different levels of injury.

“There are children to whom the fissure only affects the part of the lip junction of the mucosa with the skin. Then there is a cleft lip unilateral, bilateral and then the lip with the palate,” explained Cedillo Ollervides.

The surgeon illustrated that in the structure of the palatal vault, the bone is formed by the maxilla and the palatine.

“Where is the fissure, if also the lack of union is involved, comes the next classification until you get to the front where teeth are missing and you continue with the lip.

“In the most complicated cases is when the absence of bone occurs and when it is newly detected in the first months, an old obturator is placed,” he explained.

The interviewee affirmed that patients suffering from harelip and cleft palate struggle to eat because the food goes to the nose.

“There are already very well established parameters for surgeries. In the case of the lip, it is necessary to operate them early, as long as certain requirements are met in their general state of health.

“The ideal age is between 10 and 12 weeks as the most appropriate time to intervene the lip, while with the palate we usually wait until a year and a half, to allow it to have a greater development of bone structures,” detailed the surgeon.

Cedillo Ollervides added that the face of the embryos is formed from the sides toward the center.

“They are called embiological facial processes and then when they reach the middle line, the cell structures that are constituting the face intersect.

“But when there is a failure in that union and the process of the left side is not combined with the central one, a unilateral fissure is formed and if the two were not joined, a bilateral one is formed,” he said.

The ingestion of certain drugs and drugs during pregnancy, he warned, can also be a factor.

CAN BE DETECTED DURING GESTATION

Cedillo Ollervides said that ultrasounds have evolved that it is already possible to know if a baby has a cleft palate or cleft lip since before birth.

“Those that call 4D of the last generation allow it to detect in time. The parents when they come and sit here to try to obtain information come with many doubts about what the child has and how it will be resolved.

“And when they see the advances when operating them, they see that they are normal children and they will not be left with more than a slight scar, they are very happy,” he said.

Although in Mexico there was a doctor who performed interventions to correct the disease from before birth, in most cases those who expect a child with a harelip or cleft palate should be very patient.

“Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio during the nineties published some articles in which he performed surgeries to close those defects intrauterine.

“When he detected that the baby had the little problem, he would do an invasive surgery in which he would put small points of approach. Ortiz Monasterio is an eminent plastic surgeon, a celebrity and an icon in plastic surgery in our country,” said Cedillo Ollervides.

LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING

Family support for children is essential since in some cases the level of injury is very strong.

With the type of operation that is done now, he emphasized, the sequels are very small, compared to what was done in the past and was very noticeable.

“Operating them opportunely and having the support of the phoniatrist is generally achieved to prevent a child from developing rhinophony (speech and voice disorder).

“As a surgeon, there are no words to express with precision the feeling that one has of treating a child with these type of problem. Wherever the little ones see you, they greet you with great emotion, it’s a wonderful thing when they come here ...

“And what you gain from doing this type of surgeries has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the material. It is a strictly humanitarian issue,” he said.

Ambas son lesiones que se presentan en infantes desde el nacimiento y generalmente tienen raíces de diferente índole, una de ellas cuando los padres poseen lazos de consanguinidad, entre otros factores que se deben divulgar.

Por José Manuel Meza Mucho se ha dicho que las enfermedades no respetan razas, edades ni posición económica; sin embargo, existe un par de defectos físicos congénitos que a pesar de los adelantos de la ciencia se siguen registrando y que en gran medida tienen que ver con cuestiones socioculturales.

Tales afectan primordialmente a un segmento de personas, sin importar de qué nacionalidad sean, y de acuerdo con Alfredo Cedillo Ollervides, cirujano maxilofacial por el Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional La Raza de la Ciudad de México, pueden ser hereditarios.

“Significa que un paciente con labio leporino, paladar hendido o ambos, tiene muy altas probabilidades de pasar la enfermedad a su descendencia.

“Entran en juego factores muy importantes como la edad de los padres, la desnutrición de los progenitores y una cuestión que existe sobre todo en las áreas rurales de consanguinidad, cuando unos con otros los parientes se casan y tienen descendencia”, comentó.

El también odontólogo por la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), con más de 30 años de experiencia, subrayó que la consanguinidad juega un rol importante.

“El hecho de que los niños tengan

problemas de malnutrición durante la etapa de gestación deja entrever el estatus social. En un altísimo porcentaje este problema se presenta en una clase social desprotegida y con un estrato socioeconómico bajo, porque ahí entra el aspecto cultural, educativo y la malnutrición.

“Si lo observamos con detenimiento todo va enlazado. Con una escolaridad baja no alcanzan a tener esa preparación. Y también se asocian otros factores como el alcoholismo o el tabaquismo.

Todos juegan un rol que influye”, aseguró.

ENFERMEDAD EN CIFRAS

Según datos de la Organización Mundial de Salud (OMS) se calcula que alrededor del mundo uno de cada 500 recién nacidos resultan con defectos congénitos como el labio leporino y paladar hendido.

En México la incidencia es de uno por cada 800 niños en promedio y éstos ocupan el primer lugar de todas las malformaciones congénitas, de acuerdo con la Asociación Dental Mexicana (ADM).

No obstante, el especialista mencionó que una persona que presenta paladar hendido no forzosamente tiene labio leporino o viceversa.

“De hecho para ambas cosas y con fines tanto didácticos como de aplicación terapéutica existen clasificaciones: una persona puede tener solamente fisura labial o solamente fisura palatina y ambas.

“Y dentro del aro y el paladar existen diferentes niveles de lesión.

Hay niños a los cuales la fisura solamente les afecta la parte de la unión del labio de la mucosa con la piel. Después existe la fisura del labio unilateral,

bilateral y luego el labio con el paladar”, detalló Cedillo Ollervides.

El cirujano ilustró que en la estructura de la bóveda palatina, el hueso está formado por el maxilar y el palatino.

“Donde está la fisura, si también se ve involucrada la falta de unión, viene la siguiente clasificación, hasta llegar al enfrente donde faltan dientes y se continúa con el labio.

“En los casos más complicados es cuando se presenta la ausencia de hueso y cuando recién se detecta en los primeros meses se edad se les coloca un obturador”, explicó.

SITUACIÓN COMPLICADA

Afirmó el entrevistado que los pacientes que padecen de labio leporino y paladar hendido batallan para comer, porque los alimentos se les van para la nariz.

“Existen parámetros ya muy bien establecidos para las cirugías.

En el caso del labio hay que operarlos temprano, siempre y cuando se cumplan ciertos requisitos en su estado de salud general.

“La edad ideal es entre las 10 y 12 semanas como el momento más apropiado para intervenir el labio, mientras que con el paladar nos esperamos generalmente hasta el año y medio, para permitir que tenga un mayor desarrollo de las estructuras óseas”, pormenorizó el cirujano.

Añadió Cedillo Ollervides que el rostro de los embriones se forma desde los lados hacia el centro.

“Se llaman procesos faciales embiológicos y entonces, cuando llegan a la línea media se entrecruzan las estructuras celulares que están constituyendo la cara.

“Pero cuando existe una falla en esa unión y no se junta el proceso del lado izquierdo con el central se forma una fisura unilateral y si fueron los dos los que no se unieron se forma una bilateral”, indicó.

La ingesta de ciertos medicamentos y drogas durante la gestación, alertó, también puede incidir.

“Claro que es una factor en contra como a favor. El hecho por ejemplo, que está muy difundido el uso de ácido fólico en una embarazada es necesario para evitar este tipo de complicaciones.

“Y así como decimos que la formación de un problemita es multifactorial, la atención también es multidisciplinaria, porque para poder atender a un niño, participa desde el cirujano plástico, el cirujano maxilofacial, el ortodoncista (que va guiando esos segmentos de hueso que no se unieron) y cuando ya son adolescentes hay que injertarles los dientes que les faltan.

“Los cirujanos plásticos también les operan la nariz ya en la adolescencia. Además tiene que intervenir un foniatra,

para evitar que desarrollen ese sonido gangoso, que es muy característico para los niños con paladar hendido; un psicólogo también”, enfatizó.

PUEDE DETECTARSE DURANTE LA GESTACIÓN

Cedillo Ollervides manifestó que los ultrasonidos han evolucionado que ya es posible saber si un bebé presenta paladar hendido o labio leporino desde antes de nacer.

“Esos que llaman 4D de última generación lo permiten detectar a tiempo. Los papás cuando vienen y se sientan aquí para tratar de obtener información vienen con muchas dudas de qué es lo que tiene el niño y cómo va a resolverse.

“Y cuando van viendo los avances al operarlos, que ven que son niños normales y no van a quedar más que con una leve cicatriz, se quedan muy contentos”, dijo.

Si bien en México hubo un médico que realizó intervenciones para corregir la enfermedad desde antes de nacer, en la mayoría de los casos quienes esperan un hijo con labio leporino o paladar hendido deben ser muy pacientes.

“El doctor Fernando Ortiz Monasterio durante los años noventa, publicó algunos artículos en los que hacia cirugías para cerrar esos defectos de manera intrauterina.

“Cuando detectaba que el bebé tenía el problemita hacía una cirugía invasiva en la cual le ponía puntitos de acercamiento.

Ortiz Monasterio es un eminente cirujano plástico, una celebridad y un ícono en la cirugía plástica de nuestro país”, expresó Cedillo Ollervides.

AMOR Y COMPRENSIÓN

El apoyo de los familiares a los niños es fundamental, ya que en algunos casos el nivel de lesión es muy fuerte.

“Tenemos un porcentaje muy elevado de pacientes con clase uno, que con una

cirugía se acabó el problema y el niño quedó perfectamente bien, mientras que en los que el labio leporino y el paladar hendido tienen una mayor penetración de manera bilateral hay que estarlos siguiendo y desde bebés operarlos.

“Son adolescentes o adultos jóvenes y todavía los estamos operando. Lluvia, es una niña que le acabamos de injertar huesito en una fisura, pero desde bebé le hicimos su primera cirugía, a los seis meses.

“Generalmente pasan dos cosas, o los niños se vuelven tan valientes, que están tan acostumbrados de entrar a un hospital, o ya se encuentran bien hartos, de que otra cirugía más…

“Hay algunos que necesitan operarse cinco o seis veces, pero tiene mucho que ver, para determinar a cuántas cirugías debe someterse un pequeño, qué tan grande es el problema”, describió.

Aseguró que el mensaje que se les da a los pacientes es que son completamente sanos, que nacieron con un problema, pero que es cuestión de desarrollar sus facultades, su intelecto y su sensibilidad, porque son niños muy perceptivos.

Con el tipo de operación que se hace ahora, enfatizó, las secuelas son muy pequeñas, a comparación de lo que se hacía antiguamente y era muy notorio.

“Operándolos oportunamente y teniendo el apoyo del foniatra generalmente se logra evitar que un niño desarrolle la rinofonía (trastorno del habla y la voz).

“Como cirujano no hay palabras para expresar con precisión el sentimiento que le genera a uno atender a un niño de estos. Donde quiera que te ven los chiquitos te saludan con mucha emoción, es una cosa maravillosa cuando vienen aquí…

“Y lo que uno gana al hacer este tipo de cirugías no tiene nada, absolutamente nada que ver con lo material. Es una cuestión estrictamente humanitaria”, destacó.

Durante la fiesta gastronómica realizada en abril, se contó con la presentación de números culturales por escuelas de danza y grupos musicales de la región.

La música de huapango puso el ambiente en el lugar, De este modo, el edil maderense extendió un día más la Feria del Tamal, para culminar el día 21, para beneficiar así la derrama económica de los expertos gastronómicos, quienes han ayudado a consolidar estas acciones como una tradición más en Ciudad Madero.

El reporte de un incendio de vehículo en la colonia Benito Juárez que resultó en una pérdida fue recibido en sus instalaciones, por lo que de inmediato acudieron hasta el lugar para controlarlo.

The last molars that are located towards the bottom of the gum can be quite annoying and unpredictable. Although in many cases they do not erupt, there is already a technology to know their nature and provide the best treatment.

SYMPTOMS OF THE ‘WISDOM TEETH’

Andrade Aparicio explains that the age of the patients also influences in relation to the time of their recovery.

“In the case of young people after three days the wound is closing, but in adults, diabetics or those who take blood-thinning medications may be delayed. For that rea-

son it is necessary that they return to the office to review them, especially if there was a suture”, he says.

The interviewee expresses that the “wisdom teeth” in proportion to the others can be larger or smaller, as they do not have a specific pattern.

“After an extraction, I recommend three days of rest. We give them a sheet of instructions such as: do not smoke, do not drink alcoholic beverages, do not expose yourself to extreme temperatures, do not do very strong exercises, like young people who go to the gym; we ask them to have three to five days of rest and if possible, no effort,” abounds the experienced dentist, who has taken out “wisdom teeth” that in other offices can not.

“Once a person came to us who lasted about two hours in another place where they could not give him the attention”, he recalls.

The patients of this clinic, he assures, leave happy and grateful for the warm attention and the state of their facilities.

“They are surprised by the specific area that we have to do this type of surgeries, which is clean because Dr. Julio Alor has the highest technology equipment. It gives us the best tools”, he alludes.

Los últimos molares que se ubican hacia el fondo de la encía pueden ser bastante molestos e impredecibles. Aunque en muchos de los casos no erupcionan, ya hay una tecnología para conocer su naturaleza y brindar el mejor tratamiento.

Por José Manuel Meza Nuevo Progreso, Tam. Se denominan “muelas del juicio” o cordales a las terceras molares que se ubican en el extremo del maxilar superior y la mandíbula. Son nombradas así porque se supone que aparecen cuando las personas entran a su edad adulta y pueden tomar decisiones o tienen un juicio avanzado.

En ocasiones emergen las cuatro (una de cada extremo de la dentadura, arriba y abajo), aunque también puede salir sólo una o ninguna, según explica Jesús Andrade Aparicio. Él es médico cirujano dentista por la Universidad Veracruzana e implantólogo en la clínica del doctor Julio Alor en Nuevo Progreso.

Por su morfología estas muelas son probablemente las que más temor les da a los pacientes que les extraigan.

“Normalmente un molar tiene dos o tres raíces, pero esas pueden venir con cuatro o solamente una. Esa es la dificultad y cuando hacemos la extracción, sí está oculta debajo de la encía, entonces hay que hacer una cirugía.

“Tenemos que cortar la encía, descubrirla y a veces cortar hueso para sacar la muela”, detalla.

El especialista dijo que el proceso puede ser más complicado cuando la persona acude con el dentista a destiempo y ya existe una fuerte dolencia e inflamación, que dicho por mujeres, antes de ser intervenidas el dolor puede ser equiparable al del parto.

Sin embargo, hay una manera de observar las molares y facilitar este trabajo mediante imágenes computarizadas de última generación.

“Para eso la tomografía ‘Cone Beam’ es de mucha utilidad. De hecho aquí la empleamos mucho para observar qué cantidad de hueso está sobre la ‘muela del juicio’, si se encuentra en una posición horizontal o vertical y qué tanta dificultad hay para extraerla.

“Anteriormente se utilizaban las puras radiografías periapicales; ya después fueron las panorámicas y en la actualidad lo más indicado es el ‘Cone Beam’, menciona.

EN BUENAS MANOS

El doctor Andrade Aparicio es un dentista experimentado en la extracción de cordales. Afirma que le ha tocado, incluso, retirarlos hasta en dos ocasiones de un mismo lugar.

“Hice la extracción y como a los cinco años regresó el paciente porque le volvió

a salir la ‘muela del juicio’. La diferencia entre esa y las demás molares es que no se parece a ninguna otra dentro de la boca y es única.

“En ocasiones no es necesario quitarlas, solamente cuando sea muy ugente”, agrega.

No obstante, dicha muela pudiera no provocar molestias pero sí originar otro tipo de problemas dentarios, como la contaminación bucal y la corrosión de las piezas de enfrente.

“La situación es difícil porque como se encuentra en una posición muy hasta atrás, se complica para las personas hacerse un buen aseo y se queda estancada la comida.

“Si no se le pone atención y se tiene con caries afectará la siguiente muela. Eso es lo que ocurre y por ello, si nosotros vemos que la ‘muela del juicio’ está en un zona compleja recomendamos la extracción, porque el no alcanzar a cepillarse va a originar la caries”, asegura.

SÍNTOMAS DE LAS ‘MUELAS DEL JUICIO’

EL PROCEDIMIENTO

Habitualmente en esta clínica antes de iniciar cualquier tratamiento de esa naturaleza primero se obtiene una radiografía de la boca o una tomografía “Cone Beam”.

A partir de ahí, dijo “programamos una cita para la cirugía. Disponemos de una área de quirófano con todos los requerimientos que pide Salubridad para hacer las intervenciones e implantes”.

A los pacientes se les hace su historial médico, un interrogatorio, para saber si están tomando medicamentos para luego proceder a hacer la cirugía, proceso que podría demorar alrededor de una hora.

“Después les damos una cita para la siguiente semana para verificar que todo vaya bien, que no haya ningún problema y se estén tomado sus medicamentos”.

Andrade Aparicio explica que la edad de los pacientes también influye en relación al tiempo de su recuperación.

“En el caso de los jóvenes a los tres días ya les está cerrando la herida, pero en adultos, diabéticos o quienes toman medicamentos adelgazantes de la sangre pueden demorar.

“Por eso es necesario que vuelvan al consultorio para revisarlos, sobre todo si hubo sutura”, manifiesta.

El entrevistado expresa que las “muelas del juicio” en proporción con las demás pueden ser más grandes o pequeñas, pues no tienen un patrón específico.

“Después de una extracción yo recomiendo tres días de reposo. Les damos una hoja de indicaciones como: no fumar, no ingerir bebidas alcohólicas, no exponerse a temperaturas extremas, no hacer ejercicios muy fuertes, como los jóvenes que van al gimnasio; les pedimos que tengan de tres a cinco días de reposo y si es posible nada de esfuerzo”, abunda el experimentado dentista, quien ha sacado “muelas del jui-

cio” que en otros consultorios no pueden.

“Una vez nos llegó una persona que duró como dos horas en otro lugar donde no pudieron brindarle la atención”, recuerda.

Los pacientes de esta clínica, asegura, se van contentos y agradecidos por la cálida atención y el estado de sus instalaciones.

“Se sorprenden por el área específica que tenemos para hacer este tipo de cirugías, que está limpio, pues el doctor Julio Alor cuenta con equipo de la más alta tecnología. Nos da las mejores herramientas”, alude.

El dentista subraya que es importante que todas las personas que vayan a Nuevo Progreso tengan presente con qué doc-

Así que, antes que el dolor insoportable lo sorprenda, la mejor forma de anticiparse a un malestar por la “muela del juicio” es acudir a una valoración justamente en su “sano juicio”…

In Nuevo Progreso, there are not only tourists who cross to Mexico in search of pharmacies, opticians or dental-medical offices, but also for salons that make drawings engraved on their skin.

By José Manuel Meza Nuevo Progreso, Tam. This year Luis, “Juanillo” and “Pantera” received many visitors from Canada, some from India and even from Australia. It seems hard to believe that in such distant territories they appreciate this local art.

These are professional tattooists who together have more than 50 years of experience.

These survivors of the five places that offered this service in the town of Nuevo Progreso, of which only a this pigmentation room remains, share some of the experiences that keep them current.

They assure that they have a long list of clients that visit them every year, mainly during the winter season, although they regularly go to look for new people.

“The reality is that many people find it cheaper to come here with us and the quality of the work and the application techniques are practically the same. While in the United States or in Canada the tattoo of a letter can cost around 60 to 80 dollars (more than 1,500 pesos), in the Mexican side it is 35.

“Obviously the cost varies depending on the size of the tattoo, style and color, but there are people who come to do very large jobs. Something more artistic,” says Luis.

A FASHIONABLE WORK

These skin artists say that while many tourists who enter the Azteca Tattoo studio are “Winter Texans”, they receive many kinds of people, including young people, wives and even grandparents, practically throughout the year.

“Sometimes one is surprised that teenagers arrive accompanied by their own parents. The youngest we have had are 15 years old and the oldest ones up to 85 years old.

“We have regular customers during the cold season, from December to March.

Every year they visit us to get a tattoo,” says Juanito.

Two aspects to consider that these tattooers want to know are the hygiene and safety with which they perform their job.

“Occasionally there are people who have the belief that by coming to Mexico we

will use used things, but the reality is that all the materials we use are completely new, package needles.

“We also have a laboratory autoclave, a device that serves to sterilize metals, tweezers and tubes. Every tattoo studio should have one of these,” says Luis.

OUR LOCATION

This business already has its clientele, although it is a little hidden. Most tourists could pass through Juarez Avenue, which connects with the International Bridge of Progress, Texas, and do not realize that in the background there is a tattoo studio.

“We are in the second block when crossing to Mexico. On the left sidewalk, at the top there is a large ad that says Almita’s and below that of Azteca Tattoo’s,” he says.

Both agree that most visitors who enter your business already have an idea about the drawing, phrase or initials they want to immortalize about their skin tissue, ranging from the names of their partners, their parents, children, even animal and religious figures.

“People come to Nuevo Progreso to enjoy with their friends, they are having a beer and when they look at the sign of the tattoos they decide to come with us. We have vi-

sitors who come back because they liked our work,” they say.

For now, Luis, “Juanito” and “Pantera”, who was not there for the interview because it was his day off, are the artistic trio that expresses with ink on their skin the expressions requested by their clients.

They even say that they have practica-

lly work on external areas of the body that you wouldn’t belive, although that already depends on the tastes of each person.

Azteca Tattoo’s, which opens 365 days a year from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., proves that Nuevo Progreso, despite being small, is a town where there are all kinds of businesses and this is artistic.

“Disponemos también de un autoclave de laboratorio, un aparato que sirve para esterilizar los metales, las pinzas y los tubos. Todo estudio de tatuajes debe tener uno de estos”, manifiesta Luis.

Por José Manuel Meza Nuevo Progreso, Tam. Este año Luis, “Juanillo” y “Pantera” recibieron muchos visitantes de Canadá, algunos de la India y hasta de Australia. Parece difícil de creer que en territorios tan lejanos aprecian este arte local.

Se trata de tatuadores profesionales que en su conjunto suman más de 50 años de experiencia.

Estos sobrevivientes de los cinco estudios que en el pueblo de Nuevo Progreso, brindaban este servicio, de los cuales solamente queda un salón de pigmentación, comparten algunas de las experiencias que los mantienen vigentes.

Aseguran que tienen una larga lista de clientes que cada año los visitan, principalmente durante la temporada invernal, aunque de manera regular acude a buscarlos gente nueva.

“La realidad es que a muchas personas les sale más barato venir aquí con nosotros y la calidad de los trabajos y las técnicas de aplicación son prácticamente las mismas. Mientras en la Unión Americana o en Canadá el tatuaje de una letra puede costarles alrededor de 60 a 80 dólares (más de

mil 500 pesos), en el lado mexicano les sale en 35.

“Obviamente el costo varía según el tamaño del tatuaje, el estilo y el color, pero sí hay gente que viene a hacerse trabajos ya muy grandes. Algo más artístico”, comenta Luis.

UN TRABAJO DE MODA

reciben a mucha clase de personas, entre jóvenes, esposas y hasta abuelitos.

“A veces se sorprende uno de que llegan adolescentes acompañados por sus propios padres. Los más chicos que hemos tenido son de 15 años de edad y los mayores hasta de 85.

“Nosotros tenemos clientes asiduos en la época de frío, de diciembre a marzo. Cada año nos visitan para hacerse un tatuaje”, comenta “Juanito”.

Dos aspectos a considerar que

Este negocio tiene ya su clientela, a pesar de que está un poco escondido. La mayoría de los turistas podrían pasar por la avenida Juárez, que conecta con el puente Internacional de Progreso, Texas, y no se percatan de que al fondo hay un estudio de tatuajes.

“Estamos en la segunda cuadra al cruzar hacia México. Sobre la acera izquierda, en la parte superior hay un grande anuncio que dice Almita’s y debajo el de Azteca Tattoo’s”, señala.

Ambos coinciden que la mayoría de los visitantes que ingresan a

su negocio ya llevan una idea sobre el dibujo, frase o iniciales que desean inmortalizar sobre su tejido cutáneo, que van desde los nombres de sus parejas, de sus padres, hijos, hasta figuras de animales y de tipo religiosas.

“La gente viene a Nuevo Progreso a disfrutar con sus amigos, se está tomando una cerveza y al mirar el letrero de los tatuajes decide venir con nosotros. Tenemos visitantes que regresan porque le gustó nuestro trabajo”, expresan.

Por lo pronto, Luis, “Juanito” y “Pantera”, quien no estuvo para la entrevista porque era su día de descanso, son el trío artístico que plasma con tinta en la piel las expresiones que les solicitan sus clientes.

Incluso, aseguran que han llegado prácticamente a trabajar sobre las áreas externas del cuerpo menos imaginadas, aunque eso ya depende de los gustos de cada quien.

Azteca Tattoo’s, que abre los 365 días del año de las 10:00 de la mañana a las 8:00 de la noche, demuestra que Nuevo Progreso, a pesar de ser pequeño, es un pueblo donde hay todo tipo de negocios y éste es artístico.

Su nombre fue bautizado como el “Pettecito”, es de color verde con ojos amarillos y parece ser “amigable”.

Y es que no faltan los visitantes que al pasar se toman fotografías o selfies con él y hasta esbozan una sonrisa.
