MUSICAL IMMERSION Summer 2014 sees the conclusion of our highly successful first series of Perth Piano Sundays. Perth born star Alasdair Beatson is with us in April followed by a thrilling concert for two pianos with Simon Crawford-Phillips and Phillip Moore including Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. The series concludes with Denis Kozhukhin whose recent New York performance was described as ‘dazzling…The audience gave Mr. Kozhukhin a standing ovation.’ New York Times. The combination of a Sunday carvery or high tea with a recital of great music by a great artist in a great hall seems to be irresistible with more and more people attending. The summer also includes a staged performance of Britten’s hilarious Albert Herring from St Andrews Opera and two Handel performances in St John’s Kirk by Ludus Baroque. Add to this, performances at Perth Festival of the Arts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Vasily Petrenko, The Sixteen and Miloš Karadaglić, and we have a fabulous summer of music to look forward to. ★ ★ ★ ★ ‘delightful…polished entertainment. Thanks to...Miller’s smart choreography, you’re really left rooting for these people.’ The Times

A FRESH TAKE Welcome to the Spring season at Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall. It is with huge pride I join such a wonderful establishment, to work alongside an amazing company of people to bring you the best in entertainment. I am particularly excited to be bringing you two pieces of new writing, which will tour pubs in Perthshire. Written by two contrasting current voices in Scottish playwriting; Alan Bisset and Peter Arnott, this is the starting point to our commitment to new writing in our new studio space. And let’s not forgot our traditional family pantomime Sleeping Beauty which will be housed in the concert hall while our beautiful theatre is under renovation. Brought to you by the same team as Mother Goose and Cinderella, we are also delighted to have Barrie Hunter back as our Panto Dame! This is an extremely exciting time for Perth Theatre and I hope you will join us on an eclectic ride showcasing classics, new writing and the best in touring productions. Kenny Miller,

Cross Country Stories

Tue 10 - Fri 27 Jun ★ Various Venues ★ Age guidance: 16+ ★ £5; no concessions Face by Peter Arnott

One woman talks, one face in the crowd starts talking, out of nowhere: Scottish people. We never feel anything properly...it doesn’t seem to matter what it is...we bottle it up, don’t we, we send it round our insides...till love and pain coil and coil tighter and tighter until we get cancer...or one night in a pub we just start talking and we don’t seem to able to stop. Morag is not the type to go into pubs, but tonight she will have a wee sit down near you and let you in on her secrets. Sometimes funny, sometimes stark, always engrossing, In Peter Arnott’s Face you will find yourself drawn into the drama and disappointments of Morag’s life as she bares her soul in this most intimate of settings.

Jacquoranda by Alan Bissett

Jacqueline (pure name “Jacquoranda”) has seen the light. She’s conquered her demons, achieved inner peace and met the man of her dreams. Or has she? Grab a drink and pull up a chair for a group therapy session with a difference! Put yourself in Jacquoranda’s hands in this highly interactive and entertaining play by Alan Bissett, and let her guide you through a voyage of self-discovery. Or something like that. Just make sure you keep an eye on your drink at all times! As Jacquoranda teeters on the edge of the wagon, she slowly reveals the truth behind her newly enlightened status and the audience, in turn, achieve a breakthrough of their own. Just not the one you’re expecting...

Transform Perth Theatre

AM A+

With its long history of artistic innovation and excellence, Perth Theatre has been at the heart of cultural life in Perth for over a century. The Transform Perth Theatre project will restore and conserve one of Scotland’s oldest and best loved theatres. As well as creating a 225 seat studio theatre to allow for small-scale productions we currently are unable to accommodate and creative learning spaces for our inspirational community projects. To date we’ve received generous pledges of £13.5m, but to ensure the theatre is fully equipped with the facilities and furnishings our audience and artists deserve, we are seeking a further fundraising target of £1.5m. You can show your support in a number of ways, either by Donating £1 or more when buying a ticket or Sponsoring a Seat. For further details go to www.transformperththeatre.co.uk We couldn’t do this without your love and dedication of the arts in Perthshire and everyone at Horsecross would like to thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Grab a coffee and your last chance to see Pac-Man at Large by Scottish artist Theresa Pickles and consider acquiring an exclusive limited edition print by the artist as part of our Collect + Support initiative! Join us for another of our popular Sunday Brunch Previews for the world premiere of our latest 22-channel commission by Scottish duo Katrina McPherson and Simon Fildes. Their

work, Imagining Wild Land | Coire Ruadh, maps the borderline between wild and protected land through the seasons using the artists’ signature media of choice: body language, contemporary dance, sound and the environment. For their work we team up once again with the Centre for Mountain Studies at our academic partner Perth College, the University of the Highlands and Islands. Finally, join me for a relaxed and free guided tour of any of our exhibitions right after our Monday lunchtime concerts or just drop me a line to arrange an alternative time.
