Our programme is jam-packed with music, drama, dance shows, family fun and join-in activities to keep you entertained over the coming months.

As well as popular regular events including the extensive and exciting Perth Festival of the Arts, the increasingly well-attended Perth Piano Sundays series and the seventh annual Southern Fried Festival of American Roots music, we are taking the work of Perth Theatre out and about across the area and we are delighted to welcome West End musical, Fame. We present household names, fresh new talent, international artists and local stars in a range of settings from Perth Concert Hall’s acoustically acclaimed auditorium to venues right on your doorstep!

Whether you want to throw yourself into an aerial skills workshop - part of our wide-ranging creative learning programme – relax over lunch in our bright and bustling Glassrooms Café, or enjoy one of the many fantastic shows we have lined up, we hope to see you very soon.

The transformation of Perth Theatre is gathering pace; we expect to be on site later this year with plans to reopen our beautifully restored and redeveloped theatre in early 2017. See page 27 for more info and to find out how you can get involved.

MUSICAL IMMERSION Summer 2014 sees the conclusion of our highly successful first series of Perth Piano Sundays. Perth born star Alasdair Beatson is with us in April followed by a thrilling concert for two pianos with Simon Crawford-Phillips and Phillip Moore including Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. The series concludes with Denis Kozhukhin whose recent New York performance was described as ‘dazzling…The audience gave Mr. Kozhukhin a standing ovation.’ New York Times.

The combination of a Sunday carvery or high tea with a recital of great music by a great artist in a great hall seems to be irresistible with more and more people attending.

The summer also includes a staged performance of Britten’s hilarious Albert Herring from St Andrews Opera and two Handel performances in St John’s Kirk by Ludus Baroque. Add to this, performances at Perth Festival of the Arts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Vasily Petrenko, The Sixteen and Miloš Karadaglić, and we have a fabulous summer of music to look forward to.

SOUTHERN ACCENTS As always, the highlight of the summer is our seventh Southern Fried Festival of American Roots music which takes place over the weekend of 25 - 27 July. We’re delighted to have secured two fantastic headline artists Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash, backed up by the usual supporting cast of cult heroes and emerging acts across a wide range of musical styles alongside a great mix of workshops, talks, free gigs and fantastic southern food and drink. Look out for the full lineup to be announced in April.

Elsewhere in the programme we have a very fitting concert to mark 100 years since the outbreak of WWI in Far, Far From Ypres on Saturday 30 August. Written and produced by Ian McCalman and narrated by Radio Scotland’s Iain Anderson, the show features over 20 of Scotland’s finest folk artists including Barbara Dickson and Dick Gaughan.

A week later, on Saturday 6 September, we welcome The King of Ghosts, a thrilling new collaborative project involving the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and rising Indian music star Soumik Datta performing his new score to the 1969 Bollywood movie Gupi Gayen, Baghi Bayen, which will be projected above the musicians. This is a rare chance to see an innovative, multi-media project like this in Perth and we hope to see you there.

June 2014 will see the return of the fantastic Horsecross Youth Arts Festival. Centring in and around Perth Concert Hall, the festival will give our young people the opportunity to showcase their talent in a range of youth theatre, dance and music showcases. We are particularly pleased that our senior S5/6 Youth Theatre will, for the very last time, perform Tomorrow by Simon Vinnicombe (the piece they will perform as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival at Eden Court Theatre in April).

We will also be treated to some bilingual singing as our Glè Gaelic singers join the line-up of the Youth Music Showcase.

We are absolutely delighted to be working with Hands Up for Trad and Big Big Sing to host two singing events (Big Song Relay and Big Big Sing) for adults as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme. Aerial Skills Adult Taster Workshop

Join All or Nothing as they help you climb, swing and suspend yourself in the air as seen on the BBC’s idents, Pink’s tour and as part of Cirque du Soleil. Starting with a warm up to prepare you for going upwards, the classes will introduce basic moves, climbs and wraps on fabric and material trapezes and show you how to combine them to perform a short aerial sequence.

Suitable for absolute beginners and those with some aerial experience.

Please wear clothing suitable for moving around - leggings/tracksuit bottoms and a long sleeved top are ideal.
