“I hope your eye is in. I hope your game is up. Because, to tell you the truth, I'd love a run for my money just once.” By the light of a flickering candle, five men play cards. Each has his own reason to take part in this Christmas Eve poker game, but for one, the stakes couldn’t be higher... The Seafarer tells the tale of James ‘Sharky’ Harkin; erstwhile fisherman/van driver/chauffeur and recovering alcoholic. He has escaped to his family home in Dublin to look after his blind older brother Richard, who rules the chaotic, booze-fuelled roost. Soon old buddies Ivan and Nicky are round for a festive tipple or ten and bring with them a mysterious stranger. The cards come out, but as the game goes on it becomes clear to Sharky that drink will not be the only demon he has to face tonight.

Magnificently atmospheric, this darkly funny Faustian tale was nominated for Evening Standard, Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Play. It receives its Scottish and Northern Irish premiere in this joint Perth Theatre and Lyric Theatre, Belfast production. “McPherson is quite possibly the finest playwright of his generation... The Seafarer may just be the pick-me-up play of the season” New York Times Tue - Thu £17.50; concessions £12.50 Fri + Sat £19.50; concessions £14.50 Sat mat £16; concessions £12.50 (includes booking fee) any performance: side circle £10.50; under 16’s £5 (includes booking fee) Senior Citizen concession applies to Sat matinees only

“Give us a kiss then, in Paris.”

Al and Bet are not what you'd call love's young dream; their marriage is on shaky foundations - a bit like their house, their job prospects and their finances.

Can the city of lovers pull them out of their romance rut, or has their relationship been lost in translation? Nominated for a 1994 Olivier Award for Comedy of the Year, Shirley Valentine meets When Harry Met Sally in John Godber’s charming and bittersweet comedy about married life.

So when they win a holiday to Paris in a magazine competition it seems the ideal way to inject some joie de vivre into their humdrum lives. Armed with phrasebook, map and her new suit from British Home Stores, Bet drags Al out of his shed and off on the trip of a lifetime...
