7.45pm, Sat matinee 2.30pm An epic adventure story and one of the best loved Scottish novels of the 20th Century. Set in the early days of the herring fisheries around the Scottish coast, it combines human emotion with stormy dangerous seas in the story of a boy growing to manhood, of a man and woman finding love in the face of tragedy, and of a community recovering from the Highland Clearances to forge a new way of life from the forbidding, unpredictable ocean. This spectacular tale is brought to the stage by the team who brought you Sunset Song, along with award winning playwright Peter Arnott, promising a unique and exciting rendition of a Scottish classic to celebrate the year of homecoming. audio description: Thu 29 Oct evening; Sat 31 Oct matinee BSL sign interpreted performance: Sat 31 Oct matinee captioned performance: Sat 24 Oct matinee Tue – Thu £16; concessions £10 subscribers price £13; concessions £10 Fri + Sat £17.50; concessions £12 subscribers price £14; concessions £12 Sat matinee £14; concessions £9.50 subscribers price £11; concessions £9.50 any performance: box £12; side circle £10; under 16s £7

A compelling and compassionate mystery, Proof won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony award for Best Play in 2001. It is Catherine’s 25th birthday. Her adult life has been devoted to the love and care of her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, Catherine knows that she needs to set a new course for herself. Over the long weekend that follows she faces the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire, and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. A burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious mathematical proof draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness or genius - will she inherit? Proof has since become a major film but this delicate study of a fragile life in the balance is perfectly formed for the intimacy and immediacy of live theatre. audio description: Thu 11 Feb evening; Sat 13 Feb matinee BSL sign interpreted performance: Sat 13 Feb matinee captioned performance: Sat 6 Feb matinee Tue – Thu £16; concessions £10 subscribers price £13; concessions £10 Fri + Sat £17.50; concessions £12 subscribers price £14; concessions £12 Sat matinee £14; concessions £9.50 subscribers price £11; concessions £9.50 any performance: box £12; side circle £10; under 16s £7

by Polly Teale
adapted from the novel by Charlotte Brontë directed by Ian Grieve
Fri 5 – Sat 20 Mar
preview Thu 4 Mar
7.45pm, Sat matinee 2.30pm
A classic coming-of-age story which remains a startlingly modern blend of passion, romance and suspense. As a child, the orphaned Jane Eyre is taught by a succession of severe guardians to stifle her natural exuberance. A part of herself is locked away, out of view of polite society... until she arrives at Rochester’s house as a governess to his young child. Soon Rochester’s passionate nature reawakens Jane’s hidden self, but darker secrets are stirring in the attic... Polly Teale’s critically acclaimed adaptation distills the powerful forces at play in Charlotte Brontë’s passionate novel to create an intense theatrical tour de force which bursts from page to stage with an almost dangerous life of its own. audio description: Thu 18 Mar evening; Sat 20 Mar matinee BSL sign interpreted performance: Sat 20 Mar matinee captioned performance: Sat 13 Mar matinee Tue – Thu £16; concessions £10 subscribers price £13; concessions £10 Fri + Sat £17.50; concessions £12 subscribers price £14; concessions £12 Sat matinee £14; concessions £9.50 subscribers price £11; concessions £9.50 any performance: box £12; side circle £10; under 16s £7

Theatre redevelopment Perth Theatre is one of Scotland’s oldest theatres, opening its doors in 1901, and is also home to one of Scotland’s oldest repertory theatre companies, established in 1935; a legacy which we are very proud of. We are thrilled to be working with Richard Murphy Architects to restore and refresh our grand theatre to make it ready for its next century of drama. A top priority is to conserve and restore our beautiful B-listed auditorium. We would also like to upgrade the front of house areas and improve disabled access. Finally we would like to increase the space available for our ever-expanding Youth Theatre and community projects. These plans are ambitious and we know we have a lot of work ahead of us to raise the necessary funding. Perth & Kinross Council has committed £2m to the project and we have begun discussions with other funders, including submitting an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund, an organisation which aims to conserve the UK's diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy. Although it is early days in what will be a long journey we are looking forward to a bright future. We will keep you posted and we hope you will be there to support us.

However, it is as Grassic Gibbon that he is best known and in particular for his trilogy A Scots Quair – Sunset Song, Cloud Howe and Grey Granite.
