“I can’t even have dirty dreams. You come in and clean them up.” Meet Olive Madison. She is a slob, and that’s the way she likes it. Her apartment carries a health warning, she serves snacks from the Jurassic era and even her wedding dress had Coca-Cola stains on it.
in men. So when Florence breaks up with her husband and has to move into Olive’s confined New York apartment, tempers fray. When they take tentative steps onto the dating scene together, things start to get messy – really messy.
Punctual, hypochondriac neat freak Florence Unger, however leaves no drink uncoastered. She can spot a grease stain at fifty blocks, can’t serve nuts without arranging them in ranks and she wears her seatbelt at drive-in movies.
Female friendships step into the spotlight as Neil Simon’s smash hit comedy of opposites is up-dated, up-gendered and remains uproariously funny. This is The Odd Couple as you have never seen it before. Move over Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, this is 1985 and sisters are doing it for themselves!
Together, they make a distinctly odd couple...but what Olive and Florence do share is a lousy taste

“ It was the war. That's what brought them. It was the war.” The acclaimed creative team that brought Perth the hugely popular Sunset Song and The Silver Darlings the third in a trilogy of Scottish literary classics: The Cone Gatherers – a haunting story of good versus evil, and the destructive power of envy and prejudice. This classic Scottish novel tells the tale of two brothers gathering cones in a forest on a Scottish estate in order to replenish the trees felled for the war effort. Neil, and his hunchbacked brotherCalum, lead happy and contented lives
in these beautiful surroundings, completely detached from the destruction of the Second World War. However, their innocence and happiness is threatened by the dark, obsessive hatred of Duror the gamekeeper and the deep prejudices of the class system of the time. The obsessions of Duror grow stronger, building to a devastating climax. Robin Jenkins’ greatest novel is brought to life in this brand new adaptation by Scottish dramatist Peter Arnott.

“I hope your eye is in. I hope your game is up. Because, to tell you the truth, I'd love a run for my money just once.” By the light of a flickering candle, five men play cards. Each has his own reason to take part in this Christmas Eve poker game, but for one, the stakes couldn’t be higher... The Seafarer tells the tale of James ‘Sharky’ Harkin; erstwhile fisherman/van driver/chauffeur and recovering alcoholic who has returned to his family home in Dublin. He is here to escape and to look after his blind older brother Richard, who rules the chaotic, booze-fuelled roost. Soon old buddies Ivan and Nicky are round for a festive tipple or ten and bring with them a mysterious stranger. The cards come out, but as the game goes on it becomes clear to Sharky that drink will not be the only demon he has to face tonight.
Magnificently atmospheric, this darkly funny Faustian tale of hope and despair was nominated for Evening Standard; Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Play. It receives its Scottish and Northern Irish premiere in this joint Perth Theatre and Lyric Theatre, Belfast production. “McPherson is quite possibly the finest playwright of his generation... The Seafarer may just be the pick-me-up play of the season.” New York Times “... a midnight-black comedy... No matter what you’re expecting at the halfway mark, you won’t feel cheated when the curtain falls.” Wall Street Journal

“Give us a kiss then, in Paris.” Al and Bet are not what you'd call love's young dream; their marriage is on shaky foundations a bit like their house, their job prospects and their finances. So when they win a holiday to Paris in a magazine competition it seems the ideal way to inject some joie de vivre into their humdrum lives. Armed with phrasebook, map and her new suit from British Home Stores, Bet drags Al out of his shed and off on the trip of a lifetime.
Straight talking, snappy and peppered with dry Northern wit; Shirley Valentine meets When Harry Met Sally in John Godber’s charming and bittersweet comedy about married life.
Together they bicker their way through the sights, suspicious cuisine and sleazy underbelly of Paris. Can the city of lovers pull them out of their

Wizard Productions presents
Judy
starring Lesley Mackie written and directed by Terry Wale music direction by Stuart Watson
Wed 29 Aug - Sat 1 Sep:
7:30pm + Sat matinee 2.30pm Following her sell-out success as Edith Piaf in Toujours l’Amour, Lesley Mackie is joined by a cast of musicians and actors to bring another legendary voice to the Perth Theatre stage. Back in the 1930's and 40's, a cinema-goers passport to fantasy was simply the price of a ticket, but for the people who provided these fantasies, there was no escape. Never-Never Land was their home, and dreams were their reality. At the tender age of thirteen, Judy Garland was admitted to this make-believe world and almost immediately fell victim to its fairy-tale values. This is her story. £15.50, £10.50; concessions £13.50 (includes booking fee)

Tam O'Shanter
Created and directed by Gerry Mulgrew
Wed 5 Sep - Sat 8 Sep: 7:30pm + Sat matinee 2.30pm In 2009, Perth Theatre created a new stage version of Tam O’Shanter to celebrate Robert Burns’ 250th anniversary. A cantering, booze-fuelled ghost story filled to the brim with music and song, it proved a hit with Perth audiences and led to sell-out shows. Don’t miss this second chance to see the delightfully irreverent tribute to our National Bard as Tam O’Shanter returns to Perth Theatre for one week only prior to a Scottish tour. “Zestful inventiveness and moving simplicity” The Times “A hugely enjoyable theatrical experience for all ages” Perthshire Advertiser “Tremendous fun” The Sunday Herald Audio Described: Sat 8 Sep, 2.15pm. Theatre Tours International presents
The Half by Richard Dormer performed by Guy Masterson directed by David Calvitto
Sat 15 Sep: 7:30pm A 50 year old actor, down on his luck, attempts to reverse his fortunes by doing a one man show. Nothing new there... except that he's chosen Shakespeare's Hamlet - uncut! He's sold his car and his father's gold watch to pay for it all and his wife has left him. Everything rides on it. It's his opening night - The Half - 35 minutes before curtain up and he is starting to unravel... Will he make it to the stage or will he self-destruct? Guy Masterson - performer of such powerhouse shows as Under Milk Wood, Animal Farm and Shylock and director of the Olivier Award Winning Morecambe, teams up with Richard Dormer, himself a master of the one man show Hurricane. This is a show with everything: humour, pathos, high physicality and Shakespeare! Another tour de force. £14.50, £10.50; concessions £12.50 (includes booking fee)
Horsecross Arts and Magnetic North present
Sex and God by Linda McLean Directed by Nicholas Bone
Tue 16 Oct: 7.30pm Four monologues on faith, lust and family are woven together to tell the stories of Lizzie, Jane, Sally and Fiona – each from a different period of the twentieth century. The women’s experiences of family, religion and ambition are shaped by those around them and the times they live in. Sex and God is a lyrical, funny and touching new play by Linda McLean, who has “quietly emerged as one of Scotland’s top women’s playwrights” The Scotsman, winning two Fringe Firsts and a Herald Angel. Sex and God is the latest production from Magnetic North, whose highly acclaimed previous work includes the beautiful Walden and the hysterical Pass the Spoon. Contains adult themes and some strong language. £14.50, £10.50; concessions £12.50 (includes booking fee)
The Man Who Had All the Luck follows the life of David Beeves, a motor mechanic in a small rural Midwest American town in the late 1930s, who day after day is blessed with good fortune. In contrast, his family and friends face difficult times: his father desperately trying to raise his underperforming brother to success on the baseball pitch, while his friend Shory, who is confined to a wheelchair, becomes more and more resentful of his misfortune. While those around him suffer from everyday failures from redundancy to infertility, David continues to prosper. Yet the more success David achieves, the more depressed, guilty and paranoid he feels about the plight of those around him. Soon he begins to wonder what will happen when his luck runs out...
Is it luck, fate or hard work that brings a man his happiness? Tue 23 Oct: 7:30pm £14.50, £10.50; concessions £12.50 (includes booking fee)
