In the bloodied fields of ancient Scotland, victorious generals Macbeth and Banquo witness a prophecy of three witches: Macbeth will sit on Scotland’s throne. A dark seed of ambition has been planted and with King Duncan feasting under their roof, Macbeth and his wife draw their daggers and take fate into their own hands. A king is murdered, a crown seized and a vicious spiral of betrayal and bloody violence begins. Shakespeare’s shortest and most brutal tragedy of superstition and vaulting ambition is a wild ride from power and glory to greed and treachery. In a ruthless struggle to secure control of a nation, Scotland becomes a battleground where trust, loyalty and truth are only the first victims. Director Rachel O'Riordan is a passionate advocate for Shakespeare's plays. She worked as associate director on Peter Hall's acclaimed production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and in 2007 was nominated for a TMA award as Best UK Director for the Lyric Theatre, Belfast's production of Much Ado About Nothing. Warning: contains scenes of nudity and violence.

“You called me back, at great inconvenience... I came… and you have been thoroughly churlish ever since I arrived!” This supernatural comedy full of ghostly goings-on and mysterious misunderstandings is a vintage night of laughter and thrills. In need of inspiration for his next book, novelist Charles Condomine and his wife Ruth hire the services of eccentric psychic Madame Arcati. They are hoping for an evening of high spirits, but when the madcap mystic accidentally brings Charles’s first wife, Elvira, back from beyond the grave, life - and the afterlife become very complicated indeed. Part thriller, part farce, part domestic drama – yet always funny, Blithe Spirit offers the audience a thoroughly spirited evening, but also asks – does first love ever die? Are there ever only two people in a marriage? What if your past sets up camp in your house and stubbornly refuses to leave? Noël Coward’s sharp wit, piercing eye for relationships and unforgettable characters have made him one of the truly great comic writers of British theatre with classic plays including Private Lives, Hay Fever and Present Laughter. When first produced, Blithe Spirit became the most successful show the West End and Broadway had ever seen and has since proved enduringly popular and enjoyable - a true classic.
Welcome to Perth Theatre’s subscription season. You will notice that this season the award-winning Perth Theatre is offering two subscription shows. They promise to be quite spectacular and very much set the tone for our producing ambitions as we embark on the transformation of Perth Theatre. Our recent success at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland, where we won the Best Ensemble and Rachel won Best Director for The Seafarer, our 2013 co-production with the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, cements our position alongside the best in Scotland and gives us much confidence as we prepare for an exciting few years to come. In spring, we will set off on an extraordinary two-year project to restore the Edwardian auditorium to its original splendour, improve comfort and facilities for audiences and artists and create brand new creative learning and small-scale performance spaces. During this transformation, we will continue to create theatre across Perthshire. We will keep in touch with all our subscribers about these events, which we hope will surprise and delight those who know us well and entice new theatregoers to return with us to our new home when the theatre re-opens. While the full funding for construction and refurbishment has already been pledged, we still have £500,000 to raise from audiences and

supporters. This money is needed to equip our historic theatre and new studio with the technical facilities necessary to embark upon another century of theatre in Perth. As some of the money will be used to buy or refurbish the seats you will be sitting in, we hope that you, our most valued supporters, will consider our seat sponsorship and dedication offer as detailed in this brochure. As we only have time for two plays this season, we have chosen two classics of enduring craft and power which we are sure will energise Perth’s stage and enthral audiences. Subscribers are still entitled to their usual generous discounts when booking for both plays and we hope you will join us for more drama from the selection in the following pages. Sam's powers are failing him and the people he doesn't want to see him start paying a little bit too much attention. A heartbreaking, life-affirming comedy about life, love and being a total loser. See Thru Sam is presented with fully integrated animation giving the show a unique comic-book style, which won the 2013 Critics' Award for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) Award for Best Technical Presentation. Directed by the award-winning Gareth Armstrong

Perth Theatre
In tandem with his sell-out world tours with the acclaimed Sherlock Holmes... the Last Act!, Roger Llewellyn is mesmerising in this wryly humorous tale of murder, mystery and the occult. The play begins with Holmes’ creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, creating the character of Holmes’ evil-genius-nemesis, Professor James Moriarty, in a bid to kill off the great detective, by whom the author now feels burdened. But the game is still afoot and Conan Doyle’s intention, combined with his passion for contacting the spirit world via séance, has frightening and at times hilarious - consequences… Sherlock Holmes... the Death and Life is a light-hearted fantasy, illustrating the battle between an author's intentions, and the rebellious personalities of his literary creations. £15; concessions £13, side circle £11 (includes booking fee) Subscribers: £12.60; concessions £10.80; side circle £9 Pre - Show
Rapture Theatre, in association with The Beacon Greenock, presents
The Collection by Mike Cullen
Thu 10 Oct: 7.30pm
|
Perth Theatre
Rapture returns to Perth Theatre, after its popular and critically-acclaimed production of Gagarin Way in 2011, with The Collection by leading Scottish playwright Mike Cullen. Lawson is the best collector in the business. Operating in the seedy world of debt collection, he is at the top of the ‘profession’. However when one of his clients commits suicide, Lawson’s life is shattered irrevocably. As the mystery deepens around the suicide, the noose tightens, the stakes are raised and Lawson and his colleagues are pushed into a deadly power game from which there can only be one winner. This mysterious play, which is both funny and shocking, will have audiences on the edge of their seats. Combining the wit and power of Harold Pinter with the gritty milieu of David Mamet, directed by Michael Emans and featuring Jimmy Chisholm, Stewart Porter and Fletcher Mathers, The Collection makes for a powerful night at the theatre. Suitable for ages 15+ £15; concessions £13, side circle £11 (includes booking fee) Subscribers: £12.60; concessions £10.80; side circle £9

Perth Concert Hall
Award-winning actress Patricia Routledge and international concert pianist Piers Lane tell the extraordinary story of Myra Hess and her famous wartime National Gallery concerts. In Dame Myra's own words - compiled by her great-nephew, composer Nigel Hess - and with piano music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin, we hear how the 'great adventure' of these 1600 lunchtime concerts began, and how it continued while bombs rained down on London. Redoubtable, courageous, inspiring, and always with a twinkle in the eye, Myra never wrote an autobiography, and her letters and other articles were particularly sparse during those war years, with all her time being taken up playing, practising, and organising the concerts. The script for the show has, therefore, been compiled from Myra's press and radio interviews during that time, as well as from broadcasts where she said a few words before playing. This uplifting story about the healing power of music is directed by Christopher Luscombe. £25, £23, £19.50; concessions £21, £18.50, £15 (includes booking fee) Subscribers: £21.60, £19.80, £16.65; concessions £18, £15.75, £12.60 Pre - Show
