4. INSPIRATION Now's the fun part, have athink about what each person might want. Searching online for gift ideas and jotting down any great finds is agreat way to get ahead.

5. PLAN YOUR DELIVERY Do you have any friends that you can't hand deliver to? What are the last

Hedgehogs are thought to be declining at a rate of 5% every year. They are one of the UK's most loved wildlife creatures, the gardener's best friend and entertaining to watch in the wild. Every year East Sussex WRAS helps to conserve these threatened creatures by rescuing over 400-600 hedgehogs with an aim to returning them to their home range once fit and well to help keep the populations going in East Sussex. Hedgehogs can have up to three litters a year, and unfortunately, some are born too

close to the winter a nd end up being abandoned by their mums. As a result, their young are left to fend for themselves often too small to survive hibernation. Studies have shown that Hedgehogs stand the best chance of survival when weighing 600grams or more, although they can survive at lower weights. Rarely do these hedgehogs just need feeding up and come in with high worm burdens, injuries, hypothermia or emaciation and need specialist care at our hospital. WRAS overwinters up to 150 hedgehogs each winter costing

up to £130 per hedgehog, covering veterinary bills, hedgehog food, bedding, caging and their rehabilitation back to the wild in the spring. We need your help to fund this life-saving work, either a one off donation or by setting up a standing order for as little as £1 a month will make a big difference.

There are many simple yet cost-effective ways to insulate your home, which can significantly reduce heat loss -lowering your energy bills and keeping you toasty this winter! You can insulate your: roof, loft, floor, walls, windows, tanks, pipes and radiators. Furthermore, opting for double or triple glazing will ensure the heat stays in this winter!

Abattery more than five years old may struggle in the winter - get it checked and replaced if necessary. You should also consider winter tyres for improved safety.

When temperatures plummet over the festive period, people start to enjoy lighting their wood or coal fires to keep warm in the evenings. But first, everyone should book avisit from a professional chimney sweep. It's necessary to sweep your chimney at least once a year, or even quarterly depending on the type of fireplace you have. That's alot of older boilers out there that have seen better days. It's good practice to get your boiler serviced every year to ensure you don't get any nasty surprises.

There's many things you can do to stay prepared - such as: ensuring you've always got at least a quarter tank of fuel for emergencies; checking and cleaning your lights to ensure you can be seen; checking your coolant levels; making sure your tyres have at least 3mm oftread. Ultimately the besttool for winter motorists is to be prepared and double check!

Even more importantly, everyone knows that Father Christmas travels down the chimney Christmas Eve, so be sure to sweep your chimney so he can deliver your presents safely!
