What is Radiologic Technology? A science by which radiation is used to provide images of the human body’s internal anatomy and physiology. The medical images produced are primarily utilized for the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases. Diagnostic medical imaging also includes the areas of nuclear medicine, diagnostic medical sonography, computed tomography (CT), mammography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Technologist’s Duties We
x-ray every part of the human body It is up to the technologist to ensure that proper parameters both in positioning and technical calibrations are in place We must keep patient radiation as low as reasonably achievable The patient is our responsibility while under our care Must be very articulate in communicating
Student’s Responsibilities Physical and emotional well-being Have a good support system Be aware of your learning style Manage Stress Seek help when needed Form study groups Get enough rest
Time Management Allocate sufficient time to activities Prioritize your schedule Make a list of your pertinent activities Organize a master calendar Prepare for quizzes and exams with ample time
So Are You Ready? •Pre-requisites – BIO 230/240, ENG 110111, HLT 103-104, MAT 105 •GPA > 3.0 •MUST maintain an average of 75 or higher throughout the program •Courses – Intro, physics. anatomy •Clinicals - NYC hospitals •Length of Program – 2 years including summers •Hours - 8a – 4p •Basic Policies – Attendance, withdrawals, professional ethics
