Dear Reader Welcome to Issue 12, Volume 3 of HOT Magazine, the issue that closes out our 3rd year of publishing. It’s only fitting that we end the year with a whirlwind of an issue. We start off by taking you to the Hua Hin Jazz Festival held this year at the Wave Beach Club, next to Hua Hin’s Hyatt Regency Hotel. Smooth sounds we’re plentiful and enjoyed by many, that’s on page 22. Next up we take you ringside to the new Centennial Sports Club for the Hua Hin Centennial Super Fight. International Boxing Federation Flyweight Champion Amnat Ruenreong with 16 wins, no losses and 5 knock-outs defended his title for the fifth time against 10th ranked Myung Ho Lee from Korea, 19 wins, 4 losses and 6 Knock-outs. The fight (one of five) took place on December 7. Read who came out on top on page 38 The Mall Group, owners of Bangkok’s newest luxury mall, the EM District along with the recently remodeled Emporium threw a celebrity filled party on December 1st to open “Bangkok Illumination 2015.” The first international festival of light, sound, and visual arts in Thailand. HOT Magazine was there and we bring it to you on page 42. On page 50 you’ll find our story on the 13th annual Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade which was hosted this year by the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort over the weekend of November 20th to the 22nd. Our monthly “Let’s Go” feature takes us to Chiang Rai in the North of Thailand. Once part of the infamous “Golden Triangle,” a wellknown area for growing Opium, Chiang Rai is now home to wellheeled expats looking for a relaxed and easy lifestyle. Check it out for yourself on page 56. Deeper into the issue it’s “Welcome Aboard” to the 2015 Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show. The HOT Magazine team spent several days at the show viewing the eye candy and dreaming of deeper pockets. The show had some absolute stunners including the jaw dropping 41 meter (134 feet) super yacht Ocean Emerald. Pipe yourself aboard on page 68. Those are just a few of the stories you’ll find inside month. As always, thank you for picking us up, we hope you enjoy the read and we’ll see you in 2016!

L et’s Meet Manuel Lang WHAT IS YOUR FULL NAME AND AGE?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT AND WHY?

My Name is Manuel Lang, I feel like 32 but in reality I’m 42

I like easy going dinners and lunches with a nice glass of wine or good cocktail. In Hua Hin it would be “Marrakesh’s Bar Area” and my absolute Favorite is “Scarlet” at Pullman G in Bangkok. They do a fantastic Steak Tartar by the Table… No Bangkok visit without a Scarlet visit.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT JOB POSITION? General Manager at one of Hua Hin’s finest Resorts: Putahracsa Hua Hin HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN HUA HIN OR BEEN COMING TO HUA HIN? I have been living in Hua Hin for about 2,5 years and came for holidays the first time about 6 years ago. WHAT DID YOU KNOW ABOUT HUA HIN BEFORE YOU MOVED HERE? When I was working in Bangkok, I knew Hua Hin is a popular weekend destination. I came to Hua Hin 4 times. I stayed once at Yaiya and three times at Putahracsa - before starting to work here or even thinking about working here. Thankfully I behaved well as a guest at Putahracsa. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION? I did an internship in Cologne, Germany at a 5 Star hotel for three weeks and was assigned to work with a very passionate, young Lady at their Pub. Her enthusiasm and energy dealing with her guest fascinated me as a young man. So that’s what I like the most today: Engaging with guests from around the world seeing my team enjoying what they do: Taking care of our Guests WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION? Office work and Meetings, that’s why we do as little as possible. Besides that I would be a fool to complain, we work besides the Beach, having the Sun almost all year long and a beautiful environment. In all honesty though, working in a hotel, meaning working Sundays, Christmas, New Year, Birthdays, Mothers Days, Fathers Days…. Maybe that’s not always a dream WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT HUA HIN? I like the mixture of Beach and City ‘like’ atmosphere. I like the areas that are less developed like the small side sois in Khao Takiab and its lazy ‘laissez faire’ flair. Hua Hin is still a charming place and I hope it will not over develop.

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME AND WHY? Since work is often busy I am a lazy person in my free time. Going to the gym, beach, some trips to Bangkok, having dinner with friends, reading the newspaper and books….I have a passion for wine, so exploring new wines is something I like to do. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO NEW-COMERS TO DO IN HUA HIN AND WHY? I like the Hua Hin Hills vineyard. It’s a nice, green and beautiful environment. Equally would recommend Cicada as it’s a nice environment and atmosphere. TELL US A SURPRISING FACT THAT THE PUBLIC MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU? I guess there is a reason why the public doesn’t know some facts about a person…so secrets are kept to be secrets. But: I used to have long hair and earrings (I still have the marks on my ear, in case you won’t believe it! *Laughs out loud.* WHAT IS THE MOST OUTLANDISH THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE AND WHY? When I lived in St. Tropez I spent a wonderful day at a secluded beach. We had the usual “French Care Packet” with us which was some rose, cheese, bread, pate etc.. The day passed very quickly, it was near some rock and “cave” formations which we eventually used at night and slept there till next day. Thinking of it, I am pretty much amazed that I did it as I am not a big fan of all the small creatures around there. But the wine and beauty of the day helped me to forget all about it I guess…

The Garden Restaurant & Lounge Bar

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

T

here are restaurants that just seem to take the upmost care for the impeccable confectioning of a dish. This month the HOT Magazine team had the fantastic opportunity of being granted a plentiful meal at The Garden Restaurant & Lounge Bar. Located just off a tucked little corner in Soi 80, none of us left the same people. Obviously a restaurant called “The Garden” must be able to back up that claim, and this one does exactly that. When entering you walk into a gorgeous garden setting accompanied by waterfalls and carved Buddha stone tiles. As we were sat down, the unbeatably passionate Chef Frankie began to present us his delights, not before giving us two of his essential culinary mottos: “I don’t want guests to go away hungry” and “I either present perfect dishes or I don’t present anything.” – And boy, was he right. We first started with some drinks, a finely prepared sangria. This was a delightfully fruity wine mix, with the smooth and superbly whole flavour being the main protagonist of every swig. Fresh and aromatic, it was a great complement for the rest of the evening. Next would come arguably the best dishes of its kind in Hua Hin. A Caesar Salad of integrally home-made ingredients which permeated the senses. Very creamy, the sauce zesty and special, and the croutons giving a smoky touch, it was a wonderful combination. The bacon provided a meaty and prolonged taste, which bought a lot of character to the dish. Fresh and aromatic, it was superbly finished by the cheese, which gave a delightful definition and a subtle taste of anchovy. Plentiful in quantity, it is very good value. Then came a cream of mushroom soup like they don’t make in Thailand. Made from three different types of imported mushroom, it was incredibly thick and creamy. The aroma took over the palate, the mushrooms inundate the senses, it was heavy, it was whole, it was great value and almost a meal on its own. An absolutely epic dish was brought to us next, which set off the main courses with a bang: fresh giant black tiger prawn tempura accompanied with a variety of homemade sauces and delicious onion rings. We were brought a fantastic tartar sauce, described best by our American team member: “It’s like being in Seattle!” he exclaimed. Enough said. The tempura was incredibly crunchy, Chef Frankie kept repeating how the prawns were fresh, but we would have known regardless from the meatiness and the firm texture. It was incredibly crunchy and aromatic definitely a topper. This wasn’t all though, as the red pepper sauce made

the flavour beautifully creamy, with its touch of cheesiness and delightful spicy kick, it completed an unbelievable dish. Then came a fantastic Lebanese delight, a marvellously prepared chicken Shish Taouk with a recipe Chef Frankie got straight from Lebanon. Carefully prepared with the imported marinade, it was tender, it melted on the palate, and it combined superbly with the sauce, giving it a beautiful, balanced, soft, very creamy and slight tangy tinge. A game changer. The vegetables in the side, cooked in ratatouille styled sautÊ, were wonderful complements, with the fresh taste of pan fried peppers being very distinct. This was brought also with a Soulvaki sauce which apart from being homemade, was just fantastic in its fresh flavours. Last but very certainly not least, came the pepperoni pizza. Made the Italian way with a thick and beautifully moulded crust, it wasn’t only made from scratch, it scratched the doors of culinary heaven. Made using imported pepperoni and with fantastic fresh green peppers, it was given

great balance by the tomato sauce and the endless strings of molten mozzarella cheese. Crunchy and filling, it topped off a memorable night. The Garden Restaurant & Lounge Bar is definitely a must go if you appreciate food. It additionally has a large parking space, live music, a great sound system, stylish heavy silverware, a charming environment and is said to be the only establishment in Thailand with boosters for children and changing platform for babies. Thus it is perfect for family gatherings, private parties and intimate moments. We really struggled to fit into our trousers the next day, but the dining experience at The Garden Restaurant & Lounge Bar was more than worth it! INTERCONTINENTAL® HUA HIN RESORT WELCOMES INTERNATIONAL MEDIA FAM TRIP During 9 – 11 November 2015, InterContinental® Hua Hin Resort had the opportunity to give a warm welcome to journalists and reporters from the United States, China and the United Kingdom. The group visited the hotel to promote InterContinental® Hua Hin

Resort’s new enhancements, BluPort Wing, Club Lounge and Azure Bar. During their visit, they experienced the many interesting sights of Hua Hin. The trips were led by Mr. Jean-Marc Mocellin, General Manager (fourth from right), and Khun Wichai Charoenpanvorakul,

Director of Marketing and Sales (first from right). On the last night of their stay, while having dinner at La Residence Hua Hin, they thoroughly enjoyed a performance of traditional Thai dancing and cuisine.

AID FOR JUNGLE AID – FUNDRAISER AT THE HILTON Almost 60 Hua Hin, friggatriskaidekaphobians (a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th), gathered for a ‘Fright Night’ at the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. The ‘Dress-toScare-or-Dress-to-Impress’, event raised 80,000 Baht for Jungle Aid. The Hiltonhosted dinner propagated the Halloween theme, through special décor, and staff wearing uniform Skeleton costumes. Jungle Aid [www.JungleAid.org] is a non-profit, charity most renowned for its monthly medical clinics to displaced

people in and around Thailand. These regular outreaches, some assisted by Rotary, are part of Jungle Aid’s broader purpose also featuring preventative medicine, self-sustainability and education. Ghosties and Ghouls participated enthusiastically, in the earthly pleasures of fine-wine and dining. The comprehensive buffet was every bit the haute cuisine and extensive choice we have come to associate with the Hilton. Attendees exhibited growing confidence

the world was not ending, in scooped up hundreds of raffle-tickets for a lavish array of services, treats and gift-baskets, generously donated by Hua Hin’s leading businesses. The fund-raiser was led by Gary Hills, performing as both Deejay and Master of Ceremonies. There is no doubt Jungle-Aids good works find great support among Hua Hin’s denizens.

Thai Super Fight at Centennial Club IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenreong (17-0, 5 KO’s) defended his title for the fifth time against IBF #10 Myung Ho Lee (19-4-1, 6 KO’s) from Japan. The fight took place on December 7 at Hua Hin’s Centennial Sport Club. Although it looked to be a pretty even fight right to the end all 3 judges scored unanimously in favor of the Thai champion, 117 -109, 117-109, 118-108. After winning Anmat said “I would like to dedicate this match to his Majesty the King on his 88th birthday anniversary”. Amnat was previously the benefactor of a Royal Pardon which shaved two years off of his prison term. Amnat went on to say that the win was also a great birthday present to himself as he turns 36 on December 18th. Amnat confirmed that he would like his next fight to be against WBA Champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan or Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua. “My next goal is to win another belt” Amnet said. “I would like to fight either Ioka or Gonzalez.

Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

T

his past November marked the celebration of the 13th Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade, a show which extended across three days and was packed with delightful events. Hosted by Kwanchai Paphatpong, the president of the Vintage Car Club of Thailand and the Sheraton Hua Hin, it was a fantastic way of spending a great weekend, from Friday all the way till Sunday. Registration began early at seven in the morning in Bangkok at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit and an hour and a half later, the cars set off to Hua Hin escorted by the police. After donating money and necessary accessories to the Christian Foundation for the Blind in Thailand, which falls under His Majesty the King’s patronage, the motorcade stopped for lunch at Mae-Luan, in Khao Yoi, Phetchaburi. Upon arrival and check in at the Sheraton, the day came to a close with interviews with the different car owners, after which came a wonderful barbecue. After breakfast on Saturday, the expedition made its way to the majestic Rajabhakti Park and the Sheraton Pranburi Villas. Lunch was served at the Dalah restaurant, after which the parade was made ready at five o’clock. Dressed in their Gatsby styled costume, the participants put on a wonderful display of class. After a brief group photo, a cocktail party would follow to mark the wonderful occasion and then would ensure a gala dinner at “The Chandelier”, a wonderful night filled with great moments, food, drinks and charm. Listed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand as a calendar event, it boasted of over fifty vintage cars which ranged between three eras: pre-World War Two, Post-Wold War Two and classic cars. The theme, as for the gala dinner was “Greeting the Gatsby” and was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to showcase their class. Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa’s hotel manager, Mr. Sitthirat Hothongkam, had the following kind words for the public: “The Resort is very pleased to have been given the honor and trust by Vintage Car Club of Thailand to play a part in “The 13th Vintage Car Parade 2015” as Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade has been renowned for over 10 years. And is regarded as another highlight that the locals and regular tourists look forward to.

L et’s Go

Chang Rai

T

his month’s “Let’s Go” takes us to Chiang Rai, one of the iconic places to visit in Thailand. This province is famous for an array of different reasons, one of which is its rich past. It is the kind of place avid historians and curious adventurers love in the same way, so if you’re one of them or you happen to be both, then Chiang Rai needs to be added to your bucket list. For all its history, it is important to know where this province is located to understand its prominence. Chiang Rai is just about as far north as you can go in Thailand. With an elevation of five hundred metres, it shares borders with two other countries, Myanmar and Laos, to the north and east. To its south we see Phayao, in the south western part we find the province of Lampang and in the west we find the iconic province of Chiang Mai. Chiang Rai has different topography across the different parts of the province, the north and the west primarily consist of hill tops and rugged terrain, which comprises much of the Thai highlands, whilst the east sees flat territory. From the north, we can appreciate the Doi Tung which translates to “Flag Hill”, this is one of Chiang Rai’s highest points at almost a thousand four hundred metres and is important because of the rich historical monuments atop it. But if we are to speak of history, it couldn’t be more fitting than to start with the origins of its most distant and fascinating past. It is said that societies formed in Chiang Rai towards the seventh century and very quickly became a hub to the Thai Kingdom of Lanna just six centuries later. The fact that it was so overly endowed with natural resources attracted the attention of the Burmese, who would seize control of it and govern it for over five hundred years, relinquishing control only towards the end of the eighteenth century in 1786. The province actually gained status as such in 1910 when the Lanna Kingdom was merged into the Kingdom of Thailand but for some time continued to be a region that was autonomously managed from the neighbouring province of Chiang Mai.

56

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

More central to its recent history however is the world famous, or better said infamous, Golden Triangle. Today the Golden Triangle is no more than the name used to describe the triple intersection in which Laos and Myanmar meet Thailand, but the term has a darker past context. It is one of the central points in which the cultivation, production, trade and sale of opium and heroin was born. This was so for a very long time, to the point where during centuries on end it made the biggest share of the entire world’s heroin, being overtaken only towards the beginning of the 21st century by Afghanistan in central Asia. Of course, with cultivation, harvest, trade and production came the entire package: lawlessness, crime, narcotrafficking mafias, covert trading posts, social misery and dirty money. It became very hard both to stop the cultivation and to cease the activity of the trading posts which connected the triangle’s edge, due to two reasons: the first one was locational, as the difficult terrain made it challenging for policing to be carried out effectively, whilst the second reason was the lack of willingness that the hill tribes had in collaborating with the eradication. The Shan, Akha and Lahu tribes earned many more times the value of normal harvests from selling a single crop of poppies. Eventually Chiang Rai’s poppy fields were significantly reduced by the efforts of Thailand’s princess mother, Somdej Phra Srinagarinda, who advocated for extended campaigns for the widespread alternative growth of other crops such as pineapples, coconuts, bananas and coffee. Much of today’s tourism is therefore generated from its rich and interesting past. Equally, the notoriety of what we described earlier has attracted those with an urge to understand more about the ebbs and flows of the trafficking world, but much of this tourism has today gone on to be transformed in order to showcase the many other things for which the province is famous. Chiang Rai’s slogan used to be “Northernmost in Siam, beautiful Doi Tung, repository of culture, most delicious rice, sweet and fragrant litchi, beautiful women, the finest flavoured tea, pineapple from Nang-Lae, source of the giant catfish.” This already speaks for the array of wonderful things that characterise this province, but one can see why it was changed, since it was perhaps too long to be catchy. Today’s slogan reads “The northernmost of Siam, the frontier of three lands, the home to the culture of Lanna and Doi Tung Temple.” This again highlights a number of other important reasons for which Chiang Rai is well known. Doi Tung Mountain is a very steep incline which symbolises the border between Thailand and Myanmar. At the top of this place is the famous Wat Phra That Doi Tung temple, which imperiously overlooks the scene below. As delineated in religious chronicles, this ancient Buddhist sanctuary is said to be a millennium old and to have been built back in the earlier part of the tenth century in 911. Today it is a symbolic spot of pilgrimage for those devout practitioners, but for the casual visitors it presents a breath taking sightseeing opportunity: from the top, one can find peace and tranquillity, something definitely worth the trip.

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

57

But there are more temples other than Wat Phra That Doi Tung in Chiang Rai, such as the Wat Rong Khun or the Wat Phra Kaeo. The former is a temple that was fully designed and constructed by the artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. This temple is an attractive prospect because of the beautiful mirror mosaic that makes up the interior of its white ordination hall. Equally beautiful are the many large murals of Bhuddha representations which takes different forms and postures. Wat Phra Kaeo on the other hand is one of more classical origins. It formerly contained one of the country’s most lauded Buddha images, the Emerald Buddha. Discovered in the fifteenth century in the year 1444, it was the host to this revered statue when it was moved around by the different state rulers, being stationed there before arriving in Bangkok and finding permanent shelter. But the most interesting place to visit in Chiang Rai is undoubtedly the Hall of Opium Golden Triangle Park. Without a doubt one of Thailand’s best museums, it exhibits vast amalgamates of information about opium both in the world and in the area itself, along with the effects that it has on people, the process through which it is

58

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

produced and more importantly the aforementioned campaigns that have been run to substitute the crop. The beauty of it is not only the optimum multimedia technology that it boasts of, but the clarity with which it explains everything: the Hall of Opium explains in great uncensored detail the roles that opium has had in Thailand, including the once high burden to its society and other more curious facts such as the C.I.A.’s exploits in the matter.

In general, Chiang Rai is a province of absolutely marvellous identity and it exudes this at every step of your way around the province. Be it to go and witness the marvels of its history or to opt for tourism that doesn’t centre itself on beaches, coconuts and the “easy life”, Chiang Rai is a destination that everyone should visit if granted a chance.

4 Annual Ocean Marina th

alling all sailors, cruisers, pleasure boaters, and folks who just love to get out on the sea to explore, dream & discover. Luxury yachts and pleasure cruising in the Gulf of Thailand is catching on at a great rate of knots and the Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show (OMPBS) is at its center. A stellar array of superbly constructed, state-of-the-art and environmentally sophisticated, luxury craft made this fourth annual event,

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

(Nov 26th to 29th Nov., 2015) the most successful exposition yet. Exhibits of at least an equivalent value were added to the 14 billion THB of moored yachts that permanently call the Ocean Marina & Yacht Club at Pattaya their homeport. Thailand is rapidly developing, luxury marine industry equating itself admirably alongside the finest Australia, France, Italy, South Africa or USA have to offer.

With over 100 exhibitors, there was something for everyone. Day-cruisers, charters to explore eastern Thailand’s dazzling coast, island-hoppers, or those looking to purchase a luxury yacht, were all well served. The OMPBS also featured several, newly developed and newly completed craft, assembled specifically for the exhibition. A key feature of this growing Boat Show is the variety and diversity of its exhibits.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails, Explore, Dream, Discover.

-Mark Twain

Sail or power, keelboats or multi-hull, riverboat or blue-water vessels are all present. Boats ranged in length from barely 1 meter, (the edgy, ‘must-have’ diving accouterment, ‘Seabob’ at 1.152m,) to the 41m flagship, the glamorous, Ocean Emerald super-yacht, (which plies by charter from Pattaya or Phuket). Potential buyers were spoiled for choice. Famous and venerable boat-

building brands (e.g. Azimut of Italiandesign; Princess of British-origin, or Beneteau of France) had on display one or more, single-hull luxury craft, from catalogues with designs from 40 to over 100 feet in length. Locally produced, Austhai Marine exhibited an innovative, multi-hull, passenger vessel; one of their series ranging from 8m and 18m. New entrant for 2015, South Africa’s Leopard specializes in a range of impressive, blue-

water capable catamarans, from 40 to 88 feet. Thailand’s Bakri-Cono shipyards delivers very competitively priced multihulls, including the ‘green’ Heliotrope 48, with novel solar panels contributing to up to 7Kw of power for electric running. Numerous other fascinating exhibits included powerboats, Sea-doo’s, boating accessories, accouterments and highquality paraphernalia.

Ships are the nearest thing to dreams that hands have ever made.

- Robert N. Rose Also on display were the fine automobiles, amphibious toys and residences, befitting those discerning enough to select this maritime playground on the Gulf so close to Bangkok. Show attendees could enjoy a glimpse of the good life on the Gulf. Free, onehour yacht cruises on the Gulf off Pattaya, occurred continuous from 11:00am to 17:30 daily throughout the four-day Show. With Ocean Marina Yacht Club at its center, new destination marinas are springing up around the eastern islands, and as far away as Hua Hin and Koh Samui, placing Thailand’s Gulf on the world’s yachting map.

OCEAN MARINA YACHT CLUB Building on its reputation for hosting the internationally renowned, Top of the Gulf Regatta, and for weekly keelboat races, The Ocean Marina Yacht Club is an ideal location both for the Pattaya Boat Show or to keep a boat. Just 1.5 hours by super-highway from Bangkok, adjacent to Sukhumvit Road and with ample parking, a day-trip is convenient. For longer stays, the Ocean Marina Yacht Club Hotel is on-site, while luxury apartments and resorts are nearby. HOT Magazine sat down with Scott Finsten, Harbour Master at Ocean Marina, who had this to say about boating on the Gulf; “We don’t get swells, we are out of the typhoon belt and we don’t have to worry about Tsunami’s. You have great islands nearby for day trips, a weekend away you’ve got Koh Samet and then further afield you have Koh Chiang and Koh Samui.” Scott went on to say, “the thing is, people don’t realize what the gulf of Thailand has to offer. Everyone goes 72

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

to Singapore, Malaysia, Phuket, on the Andaman side but few people come up here, and you go to some of these islands, especially off of Prachuabkirikan with the national park Sam Roi Yat, it’s just beautiful in there.” Those who established the Ocean Marina exhibited great foresight. This classy facility now includes all

the facilities, utilities, and haul-out etc., expected by super-yacht owners, including a million U.S. dollar marine “Travel Lift” capable of lifting and moving a 75 ton yacht. The biggest yacht they’ve lifted so far was 100 feet (30.5 meters). Ocean Marina has dockside berthing for 380 yachts and is able to accommodate new purchasers. Its proven durable breakwater is of an innovative design. Porous walls allow good flushing of the marina, while also minimizing currents at the entrance - leaving one pondering why not all marinas are constructed this way. The fifth annual Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will be held from November 24th to 27th, 2016. Move over the Hamptons, the Greek Aegean, French Riviera or the Hauraki Gulf. The Gulf of Thailand has arrived.

Central Festival Eastville

December 15 - January 15 , 2016

B

It is the first mall of its type in Bangkok and has been uncovering passions amongst its already numerous visitors due to the combination of various models and themes which make up its inside.

The Central Festival Eastville was opened in late November in Lad Phrao.

Opened by the Central Group, it has cost a whooping six billion baht to build. Its motto is “The Oasis of Urbanite Culture” and it certainly is a wonderful and special environment to visit. Combining simple waving patterns in its terraced levels, along with a touch of nature, the Central Festival Eastville does not have that artificial feel associated with today’s malls. Why? Trees, wooden pane windows, natural light, tinted glass and classic brick walls give the place a truly comfortable vibe. The architects even calculated the daily movement of

angkok is a city that has grown a very big reputation for its malls and shopping centres. The wonderful thing about this, is that it has begun to satisfy the different types of demands, not for malls themselves, but more and more for mall styles. This month we check-in at the Central Festival Eastville. Built under the concept of “Bangkok Escape”, it is intended to allow the visitor to move away from the city noise and pollution to stroll in a more natural and friendly environment. If you enjoy marvelling at the beauty of modern architecture while you walk around the convenience of an all-purpose nature themed shopping mall, do read on!

the sun in order to make the rays shine through exactly where they wanted them, as well as to make the most of the gusts of wind that refresh the ambiance. But the greatest convenience of the Central Festival Eastville is that the style combines with the availability of everything you could possibly need. Over two hundred shops and restaurants are located within the 160,000 square metres of the compound. Adidas, Converse, Crocs, New Balance, Havaianas, Levis, Giordano, Playboy… The list goes on. Fancy a bite to eat? The list gets even better! Zen Sushi and Sake, KFC, Santa Fe Steak, Sizzler, Chabuton, Ootoya, perhaps some dessert at Swensen’s and Iberry or some pastries at Sait Etoile?

But food and clothing is not all there is to the Central Festival Eastville. Are you a technology geek or simply in need of electronic products? Then say no more, as within the second floor of this mall you can find the all kinds of different companies and services, from SIM providers such as AIS, True or DTAC, to phone shops such as Samsung – and it doesn’t stop there, as you will equally find a market for your cameras, laptops or other gadgetry at JIB, Jaymart, Big camera… You name it! The Central Festival Eastville is definitely a place that one must go visit, both for the suitability of its many stores and to experience the wonderful beauty of its interior designing. Are you planning to escape the hectic Bangkok life any time soon? Then what are you waiting for?
