Welcome to Issue 12, Volume 7 of HOT Magazine. As we head into the end of the year, sunny blue skies become the norm which coincides perfectly with the start of yachting season. Perfect timing for the yearly Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show which this year took place from November 21st to the 24th. Held yearly at South-East Asia’s largest marina, the Ocean Marina Yacht Club, those attending basked in the sunny weather as they enjoyed viewing boats both in the water and out plus a diverse range of displays in more than 100 booths. Throughout the 4-day exhibition, the expo also offered opportunities to network with the world’s leading branded yacht companies, test marine products and services, and try out water gadgets and toys. Dig out your deck shoes and turn to page 38 to see which cruiser best fits your bottom line. The most illustrious developers, developments and designs in the Asia Pacific were celebrated at the highly-anticipated Property Guru Asia Property Awards on the 22nd of November. Celebrating its 14th anniversary, the awards were presented by Kohler at the Athenee Hotel in Bangkok. For its 14th anniversary,

the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards expanded the Grand Final to 30 categories, specifying more precise achievements in landscape architectural design, condo interior design, township master planning, CBD (central business district) development, and green building. The evening saw 150 nominees, representing major winning titleholders from PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards’ series that took place in 2019, put on their strongest front to be named “Best in Asia.” Get decked out in your finery and turn to page 56 to see if your chosen developer or project went home a winner on the big night. The Thai Polo and Equestrian Club is an amazing facility that sits on over 2,000 rai near Pattaya. It recently played host to the FEI Asia Championships where riders from over a dozen countries, along with an entourage of over 5,000 trainers, referees of international stature, family & friends joined for a week of competition and camaraderie. Thailand’s Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, an accomplished rider herself, participated in the championship as part of the Thailand team which had the honor of taking home the most medals. Break out your Riding Breaches and Top Hat and turn to page 64 to see what other countries took home the gold. Those are just a few of the stories that you will find inside this month’s issue. As always, thank you for picking us up and we hope you enjoy the read.

Refreshed Pirom Restaurant Grand Opening at InterContinental Hua Hin Resort Presenting a new way to savour the true tastes of Thailand in every sense. On the 7th of December the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort’s Pirom restaurant unveiled its updated dining concept highlighting Thailand’s distinctive culinary as well as cultural heritage. With Chef Mama Duu as diners’ culinary guide, the concept puts special focus on Thailand’s four culinary regions; North, South, Central and Northeast. Pirom’s reworked and extensive menu features classic and contemporary dishes along with special tasting and sharing selections, great for families and groups. Also new to Pirom are pairing menus that combine Thai dishes with

alcohol and non-alcohol beverages such as Thai wines and herbal drinks. According to the resort’s General Manager Michael Janssen, “we wanted to create a total Thai cuisine experience. A major part of that is our new emphasis on Thailand’s culinary regions and the specialties within each. Outside of Thailand we tend to think of Thai food in terms of a few well-known dishes. But the number and range of dishes across the country is incredible and that’s why we’re fortunate to have Chef Mam Duu at Pirom. She’s truly a Thai food virtuoso.” Mr Janssen speaks of Chef de Cuisine Jasvir San-Ghera, better known by her many fans as Chef Mama Duu, who oversees and directs the restaurant’s

new concept. A Thai native, she’s widely known in the country and beyond for her appearances on cookery shows and travel programmes including Thailand’s Khun Toi Kitchen, China’s Chef Nic, and Australia’s Luxury Escapes; she’s also been a judge for Iron Chef Thailand. To Pirom restaurant Chef Mama Duubrings more than three decades of kitchen experience and a thorough knowledge of one of the world’s most complex cuisines, including, as Mr Janssen noted, a mastery of the ingredients, cooking methods and presentations specific to each of Thailand’s four culinary regions.

T

he 10th Anniversary of the Annual Amateur Charity Golf Tournament organized by the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin was held on the 29th November 2019 at the Banyan Golf Club. When the first tournament was held in October 2010 459,000 Thai Baht was raised for local charities which at the time was nearly double what the committee predicted to be raised.

This year has surpassed all expectations with an amazing Thai Baht 1,342,767 being raised to support Charities in the coming Rotary year, which marks our 10th Anniversary as the most successful tournament the Rotary Club Royal Hua Hin has run. The event was supported by 32 teams and 128 players representing countries around the globe who enjoyed favourable weather conditions

that made it a perfect day for a game of golf. All the players enjoyed refreshments provided by Take 5 at the 9th hole including prosecco and Chang beer who sponsored the event whilst listening to entertainment from Surf 102.5 who were broadcasting live and conducted over 11 interviews with sponsors and players alike.

Without these there would be no tournament and therefore no money raised to help us support the local communities. According to Einar Brathe, Managing Director of Kvik Hua Hin, “We’ve been a sponsor of the Rotary Golf Tournament for 5 years and are pleased to participate as the money raised does so many good things plus it’s a terrific day out with great folks.” Once again Orchid Palm Homes was the main sponsor for this event. Following on from the golf the highlight of the yearly tournament is the evening Awards Dinner. ur modern world seems to be so focused on living in the moment. Seeking out the next ‘best thing’; chasing the latest trend; being seen at the newest happening. Respect for tradition and admiration of ‘long-established’ does not always appear to have currency with many in this fast-moving modernday world.

This chic bistro now has its own stunning resort attached and all ‘hidden’ away in beachside Nong Kae on the southern end of Hua Hin’s main beach. Many believe that this oceanfront restaurant with its sophisticated yet laid-back vibe helped put Hua Hin on the food map for discerning travellers.

But for some, it’s a pleasure to discover an establishment that first

for breakfast, lunch, dinner and after dinner. Let’s Sea welcomes both resort and outside guests. Friendly staff greet and enquire as to your need while ushering you in. Ocean views are immediate and constant, no matter where you are seated. Inviting individual daybeds have pride of place oceanfront. Linger as you sip that relaxing beverage or savour tasty snacks from the menu.

HOT MAGAZINE RECOMMENDED Cascades of soft lights fall from the giant frangipani tree with tables set around its base for dining under the stars. Your constant companion is the breeze on your face, the scent of the ocean, and the hypnotic pulse of waves tumbling over golden sands. Throughout the dining areas, there are warm hues and the reassuring feel of the timber flooring. The clever use of sculptured lotus ponds, partial wall divides, and strategically placed plants

give each area an intimate and private feel. The floor to ceiling retractable glass wall allows the sea breeze in or protects against its bite. Seated inside, our group opened our Let’s Eat food journey with a selection of Thai starters. A perfectly balanced spicy salad of tangy pomelo topped with large grilled prawns. Tang Mo Pla Haeng - mouth-sized balls of juicy, sweet watermelon dusted with feather-like, fried, golden sprinklings

of aromatic salmon. Meang Kana – a classic Thai snack which you wrap yourself. Top the individual Kale leaf with a combination of diced ginger, lime, cashew nut, red onion, chilli and roasted coconut sauce. Fold the leaf around the filling and down it goes in one tasty mouthful.

At the suggestion of our exceptionally attentive service person ‘Peter’, we next tried a dish from the Pasta and Pizza section of the menu. Pizza with mascarpone, Parma ham and rocket. Let’s Sea’s Chef uses two wafer-thin pizza bases with the cream cheese sandwiched between the two and topped with the classic Parma, rocket, and a hint of truffle. A new and well-received, taste sensation for all in our group. From the Thai main course section of the menu, our group shared two dishes. Choo Chee Kung or king tiger prawns in red curry sauce. This authentic homestyle dish with its flavourful red curry sauce and hints of fresh kaffir lime leaf, delightfully accompanied the butterflied, still in the shell, grilled king prawns. Our other Thai dish was Panaeng Nua or spicy beef curry. Both packed the expected heat, yet also displayed the ideal balance of sweet, sour and tangy. To accompany, we were offered the choice of steamed jasmine, organic brown, or wild black rice. Great to have had these options. The last main came from the international main course section of the menu, and once again at the knowing suggestion of server ‘Peter’. A piece of prime quality Wagyu beef tenderloin cooked to our liking and served with an ideal selection of vegetables and a rich ‘want more’ meaty sauce. To our delight and surprise, we were offered a choice of steak knives in varying sizes, colours and styles to fit our preference and hand size. What a very service and customer orientated idea! As hoped, the Wagyu beef was a flavoursome, ‘melt in your mouth’ delight.

Dessert did not disappoint with our group sharing three – an Almond Cake with vanilla ice-cream; Thai fried banana; and a Sticky-rice filled spring roll served with mango and a caramel sauce. A fitting end to a very satisfying meal and a testament to this restaurant’s long-held reputation. If in the area and looking for late-night snacks and suitable accompanying beverage, The Beachfront Bar is ready to welcome you. If afternoon tea is more your thing enquire about their “Tea Set”. outh-East Asia’s largest marina, the Ocean Marina Yacht Club was host to the 8th annual Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show from 21-24 November. Thousands of visitors basked in the sunny weather as they enjoyed a diverse range of displays in more than 100 booths. and toys. Most of the booths were occupied by representatives of luxury cars and bikes, five-star hotels and resorts, multi award-winning property developments and of course, food and drinks. More than 20 brands of boats were represented with leading brokers Simpson Marine, Boat Lagoon Yachting and Azimut Yachts all present at the show with in-water displays as well as Technohull, Capelli and Funseeker. The show was opened by Mr. Napintorn Srisunpang, Vice Minister

for Tourism and Sports. With more than 4,000 high-profile visitors turning out for the venue’s largest annual exhibition, the first two days saw action on the docks with brokers reporting quality leads. The Food Festival was a focal point through each day and well into the evening as visitors gathered to enjoy delicious bites from many of Pattaya and Bangkok’s leading pop-up restaurants and food trucks, as well as refreshing drinks from leading beer, cider and wine brands from 11 AM to 9 PM with live bands playing.

One of the highlights of the event was the helicopter rides and it proved a big hit—with visitors taking the chance to see Jomtien and Pattaya from above, while the free yacht cruises and daily sunset cruise allowed visitors to get a feel of what the yachting lifestyle is all about. Siam Seaplane - the first seaplane service of its kind in the area, and a newcomer to the show - caught the attention of many as did the fun activities for all family members. A new initiative by the organizers saw a strong emphasis on sustainability this year, introducing free water refill stations at the show and implementing a strict no single-use-plastic policy. This was well-received and saved an estimated 5,000 single-use plastic water bottles as a result. With positive talk of quality visitors and high levels of interest in boats at the show, Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show continues in its mission to promote the Gulf of Thailand as a world-class cruising destination and introducing new people in Bangkok, Pattaya and surrounds to boating and the nautical lifestyle through an experiential show. Mr. Scott Finsten, Harbour Master of Ocean Marina Yacht Club, organisers of Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show, commented, “Our goal as organisers is to provide a platform for business and to promote yachting and the Gulf of Thailand to Thai residents and visitors from overseas. The weather was great this year, visitors enjoyed the diverse displays, some serious leads were generated and we helped to showcase Thailand’s yachting industry to thousands of visitors.

“I’m also very proud of how the marine industry, exhibitors and visitors came together to reduce the plastic used this year. So much single-useplastic ends up in the Oceans and it’s important we work together to stop that,” added Finsten. The annual Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show is one of the largest boat and luxury lifestyle events in Thailand, attracting over 5,000 visitors every year. With the presence of the finest in luxury watercraft, property, automobiles and more, one could find everything you need to live the high life in Thailand.

vason Hua Hin Resort is all about restoring balance to your life, and it is your senses that feel that rebalancing first.

Scents of floral, sweet and herby pandan, the heady fragrance of frangipani, and the fresh, salty sea breeze fill your nostrils. The sounds of waves gently washing against the sea wall, the rustle of leaves in the bamboo stands, the sway of fronds atop the towering palms – all combine to calm the mind. A feeling of tranquillity slowly overtakes as you wander the 20-acre of lawns, gardens, curated waterways, lotus ponds, and giant shade trees. Adding to the peaceful nature is the absence of vehicles other than the electric golf carts quietly ferrying guests to and from the carpark, and bicycles used by staff to navigate this sprawling resort. Located in carefree, seaside Pak Nam Pran, just 30 minutes south of Hua Hin township, this is Thailand’s Royal Coast at its most authentic and picturesque. So, let’s look at the resort’s facilities in more detail. With 196 guest rooms, Evason Hua Hin Resort is a mix of guest rooms, suites and private pool villas. All offer eco-friendly designs with a relaxed ambience highlighting natural fabrics and calming hues. Guest rooms overlook the parkland lawns and offer comfort and modern conveniences complete with in-room daybed, private balcony, ensuite bathroom and luxuriating rain shower. These studios offer the perfect combination of comfort and space. Ideal for those who enjoy the tropical outdoors on the terrace. In some studios, families with two small children can also be accommodated on bunk beds. One- and two-bedroom suites offer a separate bedroom and living room with entertainment system, dining table and pantry. The suites have an extra-large terrace, outdoor daybed and a dining setting. Two-bedroom suites offer spacious living areas in which families can reconnect. Pool Villas are in an exclusive enclave close to the resort’s restaurants, Six Senses Spa and oceanfront. The developer’s MeyerHouse project in District 15, won the Asian title for Best Low Rise Condo Interior Design and Best Condo Landscape Architectural Design. “We’re very glad for each and every

sia’s first equestrian championship made history at the FEI Asian Championships in Pattaya. pete with international riders from more than a dozen countries. More than 5,000 participants, including riders and their families, trainers, referees of international recognition, staff and related personnel joined the event. Riders ride the same horse throughout three Olympic disciplines: dressage, jumping and eventing. These tests take place on separate consecu-

tive days. Sometimes described as an equestrian triathlon, eventing is the most complete combined competition discipline recognized by the FEI. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, an accomplished rider herself, participated in the championship. The Princess trained in all three disciplines at the International Moniteur d’Equitation, Le

Cadre Noir de Saumur in France and has represented her country in competitions, notably as a member of the Thai Equestrian team in the 2013 and 2017 Southeast Asian Games. She has also represented Thailand as part of the Thai Equestrian Federation alongside Chalermchan Yosviriyapanich, Pakinee Panthanwa, and Rawissara Vechakorn, in the dressage discipline in Incheon,

South Korea in 2014. “As the representative of FEI, I have confidence in the potential of Thai Polo & Equestrian Club and the hosting of the FEI Asian Championships Pattaya 2019,” remarked Mr. Ingmar De Vos, president of Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI). “Throughout the championship, riders from 15 Asian countries were in Thailand to show

their skills and determination. More than anything, I am honored that I was able to witness the graceful performance of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya in the dressage discipline. For any rider, participating in this championship is considered very prestigious.”

The competition challenged riders to showcase a variety of riding skills and abilities and at the end of the eight-day competition, Thailand was honored with the most medals-3 gold, two silver and two bronze. Members of the gold medal winning Thai team included Pakjira Thongpakdi, Arinadtha Chavatanont and Apisada Bannagijsophon. Arinadtha also received a gold medal after winning the Eventing Individual competition. Korea’s Dongheon Nam took two individual gold medals from Dressage Individual competitions. Hong Kong also took home one gold, three silver and one bronze medal in the Eventing and Show Jumping competition. Japan’s Taizo Sugitani took the last gold medal as the winner of the Jumping Individual competition. In addition, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia and Kuwait took home awards too. In all, eight out of 13 participating countries took home the FEI Championship medals.

We are so very happy that FEI has granted us the privilege to organize this joyous event on the same level as the Asian Games in all three Olympic disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing, an event that we hope will be repeated from now on regularly and bring the equestrian communities of Asia closer together, providing opportunities for our riders to shine and excel. said the president of the B.Grimm and the Thailand Equestrian Federation, Dr. Harald Link. With a growing fan base in Asia passionate about the sport and the new stars that are emerging on the international scene, the popularity of

equestrian sport continues to grow throughout all of Asia. The number of FEI registered athletes throughout Thailand also rose by 89% between 2009 and 2018, while the number of FEI registered horses increased by a phenomenal 167% during the same period. “FEI Asian Championships Pattaya 2019 not only secured Thailand as a world-class equestrian destination, elevate the standards of Thai equestrian to an international level and showcase world-class event organization, but also presents a great opportunity for riders to gain more experience, prove themselves to the world and prepare for the 2020 Olympics. Link added.

Equestrianism in the Kingdom has come a long way in the past decade, thanks to tremendous support from the Thailand Equestrian Federation (TEF) as well as from Nunthinee Tanner—who is considered the first female polo player in Thailand and more importantly as co-founder of the Thai Polo and Equestrian Club. With approximately 250 acres of land, stabling for over 250 horses, a veterinary clinic, numerous sand and grass arenas as well as a cross country track, the eques-

The Thai Polo & Equestrian Club is a wonderful multifunctional equestrian facility and has in the past already been a remarkable host for significant events such as the South East Asian Games in 2007 and the Asian Eventing Championships in 2013 and 2017. The club was also host to the grand closing ceremony on the 8th of December where honorable guests and outstanding equestrian athletes from the participating countries were pres-

ocated in the Kui Buri District in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is Thailand’s first marine national park. This slice of paradise is filled with marshes, mangroves, mountains, farmland, beaches, islands, and tiny authentic villages on the western side of the Gulf of Thailand. 60 km south from Hua Hin and near-

ly three hours from Bangkok, Khao Sam Roi Yot covers about 98 square kilometers. Home to over 316 species of birds and over 50 species of mammals, the Thai government named the park as the country’s first national park in 1996. The name Khao Sam Roi Yot translates to “the mountain with 300 peaks”—dozens of jagged mountain peaks tower over your view as far as you can see. Made of limestone, they stand tall above the coastline at a

height of 605 meters. These mountains are home to macaques, spectacled langur, porcupines, barking deer, dusky leaf monkeys, pangolins, and fishing cats as well as the rare Sunda pangolin and especially, the elusive mainland serow—one of the most endangered animals in the country. Also known as the goat antelope, it is one of the 15 reserved wild animal species meaning it is offered the strictest protection given to wildlife. Just west

of the mountains sprawls Thung Sam Roi Yot, a majestic freshwater wetland where dozens of species of birds go fishing amid the lotuses. In addition, the mangroves hide tons of different kinds of birds, including electric blue kingfishers and purple heron as well as crabs, and giant monitor lizards. Apart from being a phenomenal contributor to the ecosystem, the mangroves also provide some welcome shade from the scorching Thai sun.

This national park and all of its attractions are open year-round and there is no bad time to visit. Weather-wise, the best time to visit Khao Sam Roi Yot is from February-May when the thermal winds come and rain is rare. Most days bring clear skies, warm weather, and not too much humidity. Rainy season runs from June-October in this part of the Gulf of Thailand so be careful but don’t cancel your plans indefinitely. The scenery after the storm clears is

worth a little bit of waiting. Headquarters is located at the southern end of the park and it is within easy reach of many of the park’s attractions. There is a small museum here with some history of the area and a fairly impressive rhinoceros skeleton that was found in the area. The entrance price here is 200 Baht for foreigners and 40 Baht for Thais. One of the most iconic symbols of the

Accessible via Sam Phraya Beach or Laem Sala Beach, getting to the cave is an hour’s hike up the steep mountainside until you reach the two sinkholes, which is where the four-gable roofed royal pavilion called Phra Thinang Khuha Kharuhat stands. Built in 1890, the temple was a tribute to King Rama IV. It is believed that Khao Sam Roi Yot was probably where King Mongkut hosted European guests on 18 August 1868 to observe a total solar eclipse. The king was interested in astronomy and had calculated the date and location of the eclipse himself. His calculations proved better—by about two seconds—than those of French astronomers, who acknowledged his

accuracy. Travelers sing praises of the exact moment the morning sunlight peeks through the collapsed roof and illuminates the inner cavern. The cool water on the beach is the perfect way to refresh yourself after the hike. The beaches at Sam Roi Yot are relatively empty in comparison to the more popular beaches in the mainland. Laem Sala Beach sits at the bottom of the mountain where the Phraya Nakhon Cave is located. The beach is a stone’s throw from Bang Pu fishing village and home to a number of restaurants and souvenir shacks. Just north of the national park boundaries is where you’ll find the area’s main tourism centre at Phu Noi beach, also called Sam Roi Yot

Beach. The highlight of this beach is the community of pink and grey-nosed dolphins that can often be spotted several hundred meters offshore. Further south stretches Lam Phraya beach, a small and secluded stretch of sand with a small restaurant, coffee stand and campground. Owing to a lack of outcrops, it tends to be windier. It is a fine spot for a picnic on the way down to Khao Daeng viewpoint but not really something you have to go out of the way for. Sam Phraya Beach is a nice alternative to Laem Son Beach, should you feel like mixing things up a little. Lined with pine trees, the sandy beach doubles as a campsite, with tents available to rent for just over 200 baht/night.

According to Thai folklore, the giant Mong Li and his wife lived on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Each had independently promised their daughter to Chao Lai and the emperor of China. When the daughter was old enough to marry, both future husbands arrived on the same date. Mong Li then cut his daughter into two halves. Chao Lai turned himself into a hill, while the traditional fruit basket to be presented to a Buddhist monk was turned into the mountains of Khao Sam

Roi Yot. Other islands in the gulf were presumably shaped after the daughter’s wedding procession. The island of Ko Kho Ram on the other side of the gulf was the elephant and the ox cart with the wedding presents. Ao Sam Roi Yot, Kho Ram Island and Nom Sao Island’s silhouette, seen from certain angles, look like a person resting in the middle of the sea. Other islands in the same area include Ko Sattakut, Ko Rawang, and Ko Rawing—all of which are within paddling distance. Sam Roi

Yot Beach, which faces out over Dolphin Bay, is an ideal spot for paddle boarding. The sheltered bay rarely gets anything in the way of waves, the water is crystal clear, and there are a couple of offshore islands within paddling distance. Kayaks are available to rent from many of the local businesses along the road at Sam Roi Yot Beach, and usually cost around 200-300 baht/ hour (with discounts available for half day and full day rentals).

If you’d rather remain on land, the park is an epic place to go on a two-wheeled adventure, thanks to its beautiful scenery, peaceful tree-lined roads, and hidden dirt tracks through the farmlands. Apart from the mega steep mountains, the terrain around Sam Roi Yot is mostly flat with little elevation at any point. Depending on your preference and level of skill, you can pick your choice of easy going road riding and slightly more technical off-road mountain biking. But the hikes here are still steep enough that it is only recommended for those who are in good physical shape. Accessed via a 250 meter long trail, the Kaeo Cave consists of several cavernous chambers and an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites. Located 16 kilometers from the headquarters towards the Bang Pu village, the cave has two entrances and it takes approximately 25 minutes to walk from one to the other. On the other hand, Sai Cave is a beautiful cave filled with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. It is accessed by a 300 meter long trail. Torches are available for rent on weekdays but the cave is lit up on weekends during peak season. The inside of the caves can actually drop in temperatures quite a bit compared to the outside temperature so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

The hike up Khao Daeng is fast and intense; it only takes half an hour or so to reach the peak, but it’s steep and the rocky terrain is uneven in places- so best only doing this one if you’re in good physical health so it might be too much for young children or elderly. The view from the top, though, is well worth it. At just shy of 160 meters altitude, the Khao Daeng viewpoint provides a 360 degree view over the sea, mountain, forest and shrimp farms below – best viewed at sunrise. Like some of the other tourist attractions in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, the Khao Daeng hike is only open for visitors between 8 AM till 3.30 PM and if you have a dog, you’re not allowed to bring them on the hike with you. Down at the canal of the same name is filled with stunning scenery and mangroves. You can easily hop on a boat tour of the Khao Daeng Canal from the Ban Khao Daeng Village. These boat trips last approximately one hour and the perfect time to truly appreciate the scenery of the area is sunset. From limestone hilltop to deep valleys filled with chirping birds and macaques, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park remains one of Hua Hin’s most tranquil natural attractions.

Bumrungrad Health Briefs At Your Convenience: A Health Check-up in the Afternoon Health check-ups are the best way to detect health issues early and respond to any arising concerns promptly. We all have busy schedules and, unfortunately, we might find it difficult to disrupt our routine. Typically a health check-up requires you to get up really early in the morning, skip breakfast, and go in on an empty stomach; in fact, you have to have fasted for 12 hours before your appointment. That’s normally the case, but it doesn’t have to be any longer, at least not at Bumrungrad International. Bumrungrad International has a new approach to the way patients can get their health check-ups. The hospital has added new programs that enable patients to come in later in the day or after having breakfast or lunch. For many people, coming in early can be an inconvenience, as people have other responsibilities to attend to. Having to wake up earlier than usual for a check-up is not the way many people would want to start their day. The fasting requirement can also be challenging, especially for people on irregular eating schedules, such as those who eat their dinner late at night. This would not be suitable for a 12-hour fasting check-up in the early morning. The good news is that this can all be avoided now that Bumrungrad has introduced the new Afternoon Checkup programs. The Afternoon Check-up programs include the hospital’s full range of health check-up programs with the addition of non-fasting program options for those who would like to eat before they come in.

Non-Fasting Programs vs. Fasting Programs A non-fasting Afternoon Check-up means that you can come in for your check-up after breakfast or lunch. Nonfasting programs do not require you

to fast before your check-up, as these programs exclude the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests — all of which require an empty stomach. For those considering the non-fasting programs, be aware that they are not suitable for people suffering from certain health conditions such as fatty liver disease, disorders of the pancreas, or gallstones. In comparison, the fasting Afternoon Check-up programs do include the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests, so fasting for at least 12 hours prior to your check-up is required. Additionally, if you select a nonfasting check-up and would still like to get the Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), and Upper Abdominal Ultrasound tests, you are free to come in at a later, more convenient time (when you have fasted) for these additional tests.

Registering for an Afternoon Check-up The Health Screening Center (Checkup) is open for check-up registration from 06.30 to 15.00 hrs daily. You can schedule an appointment for whichever program you desire, and at the time you prefer — and receive your test results on the same day. Urban Living Furniture & The Room Two Brands One Mission! Since its opening, URBAN LIVING FURNITURE became synonymous for unmatched modern high-quality furniture in Hua Hin. The owners, Joachim and Matt, didn’t leave to chance their overarching mission to be a lifestyle changer for home furnishing by closely monitoring new furniture design trends and finding a good mix of mostly exclusive collections appealing to both, discerning retail and wholesale customers. Now, 4 years after the opening, URBAN LIVING FURNITURE has firmly positioned itself in the premium furniture segment. In 2017, a decision was made to launch THE ROOM brand to expand URBAN LIVING’s furniture range into the mid-price segment and to better serve the project market of which Sansara Hua Hin is their latest one successfully executed. Today, URBAN LIVING FURNITURE and THE ROOM are two complementary business concepts with one mission which is to allow a customer to select furniture across a wide spectrum of choices catering for almost all budgets. And a new state-of-art 3D interior design service assists customers in visualizing interior design proposals before making a final decision on a purchase.

Joachim says that he is very pleased with the development of his business thanks to a continuous review and expansion of their supplier base to add new attractive furniture collections that are of superior quality, well designed and appealing to its customers. And for the near future Joachim and Matt are in discussions with new exclusive international collaboration partners and are considering a shop expansion to new promising markets. 4/114 Hua Hin 38 Phetkasem Road Hua Hin, Prachuab Khiri Khan 77110 Office: +66(0) 32520966 Mobile: +66(0) 949505868 E-Mail: jd@urbanliving-furniture.com Webseite: www.urbanliving-furniture.com
