ichael & Heike Köhler are the Elon Musk’s of Yachting. After traveling the oceans for over 23 years on sailboats and motorboats, they concluded that there had to be a more efficient way to supply yachts with energy. After four years of continuous research, the birth of their SOLARWAVE 46 took place in 2009. It was nothing less than the first ocean-going yacht that exclusively used solar energy for propulsion and provided power to all household appliances on board. Based on this expertise, they started their company “SILENT-YACHT’s.” Known as the Tesla’s of boating, they now offer the SILENT 55, SILENT 60, and the SILENT 80.

Pack your bag and turn to page 36 to see why Elite Haven needs to be part of your next luxury getaway. On December 4th, PropertyGuru, Southeast Asia’s leading property technology company, made history several times by airing the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final as a virtual gala event and awards ceremony. As well as being the first virtual edition of the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final, the special broadcast marked the 15th edition of the prestigious, long-running real estate awards programme. The 15th PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final laurelled developers and projects from 14 property markets in Southeast Asia, the Chinese territories (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau), Australia, India, and Japan with highly coveted regional titles – elevating them above their peers. Time to once again put on that tuxedo or gown and turn to page 68 to see which countries and projects received the bragging rights of being monikered “Best In Asia.”

L et’s Meet,
Konrad Renggli What is your full name and age? Konrad Renggli (Chef Radi), 38 years old. What is your current Job Position? Executive Chef at Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa. How long have you lived in Hua Hin or been coming to Hua Hin? It has been ten months since I moved from Shanghai, China, and started working with Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa in February 2020. What did you know about Hua Hin before you moved here? I had heard about a beautiful beachside town on the Gulf of Thailand. Hua Hin is a popular destination for Thai people, but it is also becoming more famous with international travelers as well. What do you like most about your profession? I like being able to travel around the world and learn about different cultures, diverse cuisines, and new cooking techniques. I always enjoy creating memorable dining experiences and making guests happy. What do you like least about your profession? It’s good that my profession enables me to travel around the world. On the other hand, it’s also the hardest part of my job when I have to move to another country and have to say goodbye to my beloved team and friends. What do you like most about Hua Hin? Due to its small size, Hua Hin is easy to get around and explore the neighborhood. Whether you like dining, shopping, or sightseeing, Hua Hin is a great place to live or for a vacation. What is your favorite restaurant, and why? (please don’t promote your own restaurants)

There are many food options around Hua Hin, including European, Italian, Chinese, and Thai. Hua Hin is located near fishing villages, so fresh seafood can be found easily in this town. One of my favorite restaurants is Aroi @ Hua Hin, which features a delicious signature dish called Prawns in “Aroi” sauce. What do you like to do in your free time and why? In my free time, I like photography and traveling to nearby cities to relax. I am also practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. What would you recommend to newcomers to do in Hua Hin and why? I would like to recommend taking a trip to Hin Lek Fai Hill. It’s located about three kilometers west of the town. Since Hua Hin is a sunrise destination, it is the perfect place to catch the first glimpse of the sunrise over the city. Tell us a surprising fact that the public might not know about you? I worked in China for almost ten years, and I immersed myself in Chinese culture, so now I can read, write, and speak Mandarin. I like to learn about different cultures; it helps me to understand the local community, make new friends, and increases my exposure to new experiences. I’m currently learning about Thai culture and the Thai language. What is the most outlandish thing you have ever done and why? I have participated in an annual Waterslide contest during the middle of winter in Switzerland. The challenge was to slide across a pool by snowboard and not to fall in. The water was less than 4 degrees Celsius at the time!

L et’s Eat, Hua Hin Prime Steakhouse at Black Mountain
F
or restauranteur Anders Hagstedt, it’s as if his time on the Royal Coast has come full circle. Hired in 2007 to set up the then newly opened Black Mountain Golf Club’s food and beverage operations, he finds himself there again. Here’s the story. Moving on from Black Mountain, Anders created Prime Steakhouse, situated right in the middle of Hua Hin’s center. Since opening in 2009, Prime Steakhouse has forged an enviable reputation and became a favourite for both Hua Hin

residents and visitors. As with so many hospitality businesses impacted by the COVID pandemic and subsequent lockdown in early 2020, Prime had to close its doors. Now many months later, Anders has once again taken over the food and beverage facilities at Black Mountain Golf Club, and in doing so, given Prime Steakhouse a new home. Great news for their strong local following while a new cadre of diners are now being introduced to Prime.
HOT Magazine recently had the opportunity to visit Prime Steakhouse in its new setting at Black Mountain, and what a setting it is. The large alfresco dining area with its vaulted ceiling, timber, and burnt orange tones overlook the course’s original back nine. The sweeping lines of this championship course stretch out before you, with Black Mountain as the ultimate backdrop. A cooling afternoon breeze adds to the welcoming ambience. Our food journey started with two versions of a classic Swedish dish called

Skagen, from the Starters menu. Skagen was created by a well-known Swedish restaurateur, Tore Wretman, just after the second world war and is named after a fishing port in Denmark. The dish is typically served as a starter at Swedish dinner parties and is exceptionally popular in Swedish restaurants. The original Toast Skagen is prawns in a spiced mayonnaise served on a toasted bread crouton and topped with white fish roe (caviar), and this is also how Prime do theirs with the prawns diced
for more luxuriant eating. A twist on the original is our second starter – this time Skagen with crab meat instead of prawns and served on half an avocado with hints of dill and lemon. Creamy deliciousness on a plate. Our final starter is an Italian classic – locally made Burrata cheese, Parma ham, and sundried tomatoes served on olive pesto smeared toast. Flavours of the Mediterranean all on one plate. Anders did confide that this was a Chef Gordon Ramsay recipe which he has adapted.
For mains, we chose the Snow Fish, which we learnt is actually Patagonian Tooth Fish. A cold-water fish found in the southern Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Southern Oceans. Our ‘Snow Fish’ fillets were sauteed in butter served atop a Mediterranean tomato sauce with capers, olives and potatoes as an accompaniment. A melt in the mouth delight.

Our other two mains hero beef as you would expect when dining in a renowned steakhouse. First, a Beef Fajitas served on a sizzling plate. Super tender slices of beefsteak atop the sauteed bell peppers and onion served with warm wheat tortilla bread, guacamole, jalapenos, salsa and sour cream. A crowd-pleaser for sure. One page of the Prime Steakhouse menu is dedicated to Wooden Platters. Our choice was the imported from Australia, Angus Beef Tenderloin, cooked to medium-rare and fenced in by generous pipings of Duchesse Potatoes. Think mash potatoes but even more yum! Our steak platter was also graced with an ovenroasted bulb of garlic, a generous serve of bearnaise sauce plus bacon wrapped green beans. In summary, indulgence plus.

Did we need desserts – probably not, though our willpower is always particularly low when wait staff present an appealing sweets list? So, on our food journey goes. First out of the kitchen was a Crème Brule, that classic French dessert of rich vanilla creamy custard topped with caramelized sugar. The sugar topping creating a crust that makes a delightful cracking sound when tapped with a spoon. It was a perfect combination of vanilla and caramel flavours. We also dived into the Chocolate Brownie with that delightful crust on top and the not too heavy brownie fudge inside. The accompanying vanilla ice-cream and fresh strawberries added to the pleasure. Finally, a vegan, sugar and gluten-free dessert option – which came together as a generous scoop of Prime’s own Pistachio ice-cream.
Breakfast is available from 6 am to 11 am, and look out for a new breakfast menu in January 2021. Prime’s main menu operates from 11 am to 9 pm, including a full selection of Thai favourites. For those needing some nourishment but not a full meal, check out the snack menu. A children’s menu is also available, which includes a selection of fun kid’s drinks, fruit and milkshakes. It seems that Anders has invested the same quest for quality product and ingredients in Prime’s beverage offerings. Examples of this include the stocking of Fever-Tree Tonic Waters and Ginger Ales. And to accompany these quality mixers, do consult the drinks menu for a masterfully curated selection of fine Gins and Rums. The same attention to detail can be seen in the wine list, starting with the excellent house wines - by the glass or bottle. A smattering of organic wines can be found across the main wine list, which even extends to French Grand Cru and Italian Valpolicella DOC wines. Pleasingly, the wines appear to be well priced, making it easier to select a quality wine to accompany the excellent food on offer. Given the Clubhouses facilities, private functions and catering are in demand. Be it the rooftop lounge ideal for cocktails or drinks gathering to the air-conditioned wine cellar dining room with its plush banquette seating and panoramic outlook. Talk to Anders to create a menu or event adapted to your needs. From our visit, it seems that Prime Steakhouse at Black Mountain, with its dramatic setting and sizeable facilities, is going from strength to strength. Although located within the Clubhouse, this is a dining venue for all – be it a group of friends catching up for lunch or dinner or your next special event. Prime Steakhouse can be found on Facebook and the web at www.primehuahin.com. Call 032 618 620 to contact them directly for further information or reservations. By Michael Cullen

SILENT-YACHTS Unlimited range with zero noise or fumes

ichael & Heike KÜhler are the Elon Musk’s of Yachting. They travelled the oceans for over 23 years on conventionally powered sailboats and motorboats. They both spent over 5000 days onboard their yachts and sailed over 75,000 NM around the world. The experiences they gathered during more than two decades at sea led them to conclude that there had to be a more

efficient way to supply yachts with energy. After four years of continuous research, the birth of the SOLARWAVE 46 took place in 2009. It was nothing less than the first ocean-going yacht that exclusively used solar energy for propulsion and provided power to all household appliances on board. This included everything from cooktops, stoves, and the
freezer to the air conditioning, washing machine, and water-maker. In 2010, a rigorous four-year sea trial was initiated in which they crossed the entire continent of Europe by river, sailed the dangerous Black Sea, the stormy Aegean as well as the vast Mediterranean Sea. Throughout the journey, the SOLARWAVE 46 did not only accommodate them with conve-
nient amenities such as onboard water production, cooling, and heating. It did so with an additional eight guests onboard, supplying all the comfort needed for 120 weeks. Furthermore, it was able to power the engines every day under various circumstances such as rain, cloudy sky, sun, snowfall, ice, and even storms of force 9. Of important note, during this
period of four years, there were no maintenance or repair works required on the solar panels, the batteries, or electric motors. The generator, which has to be on board for safety reasons, was needed for less than 50 hours during those 48 months – primarily to avoid becoming rusty. On the other hand, the electric motors were operating for more than 2000 hours over the same period of time.
The four years of dedicated trials were proof that the solar-electric drivetrain they had developed was the answer to the question they were asking themselves. It was the most effective, efficient, and reliable choice for nautical propulsion and self-sufficient sailing and perfectly suitable for an independent life on board.

Based on their unique expertise, they started their company “SILENT-YACHT’s” and developed four full production solarelectric yachts, known as the “Tesla’s of the seas.” They have discontinued their Silent 64 and now offer the SILENT 55, SILENT 60, and the SILENT 80. SILENT-YACHTS are true world cruisers with the possibility of unlimited range, even when the sun is not shining. In case of extended periods of bad weather, the range extender generator automatically starts to recharge the lithium batteries when they are low. Their capacity provides ample energy for propulsion and all household appliances, including the air conditioning, ice-machine, and water-maker. With a SILENT-YACHT, there is no need to search for a marina to charge the batteries, get ice, refuel, or fill the water tanks. The yacht can virtually cruise for weeks without fuel or the need to start the generator. Additionally, all vital components are redundant to ensure double safety. All components’ configuration ensures an overload is impossible, making the solar-electric drivetrain far safer than conventional propulsion systems. The company now has ten boats under construction, and they are increasing production capacity to produce dozens of electric boats a year. That may not sound like a lot, but boat production can be a slow process and is difficult to deploy at scale for larger vessels like the SILENT-YACHT electric catamarans. Depending on the size, they can produce between 10 and 26 kW of solar power and be equipped with 150 to 532 kWh of battery capacity. The latter is the equivalent in energy capacity of more than 5 Tesla Model S sedans. To meet demand, SILENT-YACHTS has new shipyards in Thailand and Italy. The Thailand yard in Rayong, approximately 220 km from Bangkok, is led by Swiss entrepreneur Philippe Guénat and is the largest privately-owned shipyard in South East Asia. In Fano, Italy, a series of SILENT 60s are now under construction, and a second line is being set up to provide capacity for building 15 SILENT 60s a year.

The SILENT 60 has become the bestseller. The company sold 12 units of this model after its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019. Four of them are now under construction at SILENT-YACHTS production facility in Thailand.
SILENT-YACHTS are true bluewater cruisers. Self-sufficient, with silent electric propulsion, they provide an unlimited range with zero noise or fumes and with minimal vibration, a forward-looking future of what lies ahead for the yachting world.

lowing a softening white gold, the setting sun heads towards the Mae Nam horizon, paving a line of warm orange light across Bophut bay toward me. A yacht sails taut, slips across the bay, returning from a day cruising the tropical waters and islands surrounding Koh Samui. Gentle waves lap upon the shellstrewn sandy beach directly in front of the 19-meter pool I’m lazing in. The only other sounds are the chirping of birds in the trees surrounding the villa as they make themselves comfortable for the onset of another balmy evening. I have an hour to dinner, and the chef is already at work. I’ve selected Thai dishes from the Villa menu, and Villa Manager Melie is preparing the dining pavilion overlooking the pool and beachfront lawns. I’ve enough time to enjoy a refreshing dip and reflect on my first day in the luxurious Angthong Villa in the Plai Laem region of Koh Samui’s north-east shoreline. I’m thinking as the sun finally sets, could this be the new and COVID safe way for families and groups of friends to holiday? Let me describe my setting because this is holiday rental accommodation on a different level. With no immediate neighbours and absolutely beachfront, Angthong Villa is grand opulence and yet comfortable modern living. This elegant five-bedroom villa fuses modern materials with Asian architecture. Wood, stone and mosaic adorn floors, walls and ceilings. Handcrafted lamps hung from the high vaulted wooden ceilings add a luxurious dimension. The eclectic décor ranging from Chinese ceramics to natural wood artefacts and comfortable furnishings lend a homely and grounded feel to this magnificent villa. Angthong Villa is all about contemporary indoor and outdoor living. Facilities include two fully-fitted kitchens and dining areas, satellite Smart TV entertainment, indoor and outdoor sound systems, a small up-to-date gym, massage Sala, an outside bar area, and a pool table. That 19-metre pool I’ve already mentioned is the visual and literal centrepiece of the villa. Oh, and don’t forget the uninterrupted all the way to the horizon sea views and beachfront setting. Full-time staff like Villa Manager Melie, onsite chef, housekeeper, and gardener-pool person, look after your needs. Whether it be the lavish complimentary breakfast, exceptionally discreet housekeeping including turndown service, maybe transport to the island’s easily accessible attractions, day trip bookings, or any other holiday requirements.

All groceries and beverages are at market price plus 20% handling fee and the 7% government goods and service tax. Alternatively, select from the extensive inhouse menu of tasty homemade Thai or international meals that your onsite chef can prepare for you. Or, a combination of the two - you are on holidays, after all. This is a highly evolved personal style of service. Angthong Villa is one of 300 private luxury havens in the most desirable holiday locations of Koh Samui and Phuket in Thailand; Indonesia’s Nusa Lembongan, Bali and Lombok; Sri Lanka; the Maldives and India; along with Japan’s nature wonderland and famous ski resort region of Niseko. All are hand-picked by Asia’s leader in high-end holiday rentals Elite Havens. Established in 1998, Elite Havens features an exclusive portfolio of villas and chalets in the best locations. These Signature villas excel in every aspect from architecture to design and location. All with outstanding facilities offering enhanced luxury at every level. Angthong Villa, where I find myself, is indeed one of the Elite Havens Signature Collection. Another such property I visited is perched high atop the hills behind Bophut boasting a breathtaking sunrise-to-sunset panorama of Bophut Bay right across to neighbouring Koh Phangan. Suralai is an exclusive villa, ideal for families or groups of friends seeking a sophisticated yet relaxed escape. All six luxurious bedrooms have ocean-view terraces, as does the vast living and dining pavilion, while alongside the 25-metre infinity-edge pool is a shady relaxation and outdoor dining Sala with a swim-up bar. As with all Elite Havens, Suralai comes with friendly staff, including a highly experienced villa manager and your own full-time chef. So, who are Elite Havens villas and chalets for? In reality, anyone looking for the luxury of space, and a safe environment in this COVID impacted world. Somewhere special to have time together. Perhaps extended family gatherings, special occasions, or multi-generational family holiday time together. Given Elite Havens diversity of locations across Asia, it comes back to your interest. Beach, family-focused, ski, golf, wellness, or those exceptional life celebrations from destination weddings to milestone events. As highlighted, holidaying and travelling in these pandemic restricted times is about taking extra precautions to protect your family or friends. With those significant concerns in mind, Elite Haven is now certified as adhering to the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) program. Reassuring for anyone looking to plan their next holidays. And speaking of holiday planning, check out the promotions page on the Elite Havens website to see the latest offers. For this forthcoming holiday season, they have ‘Family Funcation’ special offers for their two Thailand locations. These Koh Samui and Phuket family promotions may provide a desirable alternative to busy hotel or resort vacation options. And as Elite Havens is now a member of the Dusit Thani Group, Dusit Gold frequent guest reward program members receive an additional 5% off any existing promotions at Elite Havens. Beauty And The Benz
K
ritsana “Benz” Nampradit is part of the new generation of Thais. He grew up in Kanchanaburi in a family that included four sisters and a twin brother. After graduating from college at the age of 22, he worked hard and gained a lot of experience in different industries. After five years, he learned that the type of job he enjoyed and excelled at the most was sales and service. As he says, “Every time I make a customer happy, It makes me happy.”
Bonnie Cell currently sells 11 different types of Serums to hospitals and beauty clinics in Thailand and Vietnam. Their most popular product is Mezo Celeb. Imported from Japan, the serum is injected into the middle layer (mesoderm) of the skin using very thin needles. Mesotherapy fades wrinkles and lines, tightens loose skin, and lightens pigmented skin. Because the needles are so thin, the treatment is relatively painfree. Treatment typically consists of injections every week for four weeks and then again once a month, with results lasting approximately six months. The companies second best seller is its own formulation called Bonniecel. Also injected, Bonniecel increases stem cells in the body, rejuvenating the skin to be young again. The treatment regiment is the same as Mezo Celeb. Two new products are soon to come to market: Glutathione, a vitamin for skin whitening, and Mezo Celeb Formula 2, a more potent version of the original.
At the age of 27, he decided he wanted to be in charge of his own destiny, to run his own business. He looked at many industries and saw an opportunity in Thailand for antiaging products. Due to the increasing consciousness among both young and old individuals about their physical appearance, the sector is projected to grow 7.8%, reaching a value of US $85.1 Billion worldwide by 2025. Benz went to his parents with a business plan in hand to start selling aesthetic serums, the most well-known being Botox. They agreed, and Bonnie Cell Co. Ltd. was born. As with any new business, the company had its ups (opportunities) and downs (crisis’s) until they were able to build a winning team. Benz now employs 30 people in two offices, Rangsit and Bangkok, and gleams with pride as he describes how thru team efforts, his staff have excelled and now enjoy a better quality of life.

he comedian Jerry Seinfeld recently stated that “Survival is the new success.” If the stress of just trying to survive through Covid 19, in addition to the stress of the holidays, is getting a little too much, we suggest you get in your car and drive, not stopping until you reach this month’s Let’s Go destination of Phetchabun. This tranquil province is located approximately seven hours by car from Hua Hin and four hours from Bangkok. To begin your decompress, head out to Phu Thap Boek, the highest peak in the province. Surrounded by mountains that seem to stretch endlessly, it is a popular place to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars, waking up to a cool breeze while you watch the first light flourish in the morning. Along the way to Phu Thap Boek, you’ll pass thru several thousand acres of cabbage plantations. This province is rich in natural attractions like the Nam Nao National Park, which features many
wild animals that can be spotted while trekking, and the Than Thip Waterfall, which is a popular place for swimming. Wat Phra That Pha Son Kaew is another highlight. This spectacular Buddhist Temple is adorned with over 5 million colorful mosaic tiles and is characterized by 5 overlapping white Buddha statues, which stand amid the mountains. Khao Kho National Park is a popular stop and is referred to as “The Switzerland of Thailand” due to its beautiful scenery, cool weather, & the 360-degree views from its Khao Takian Ngo viewpoint. For Buddhists, or those interested in Buddhism, you’ll want to visit the Phetbura Buddhist Park. Here, the residents of Phetchabhun joined hands to build a replica of Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha. The big Buddha was cast with pure brass on the occasion of the 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of King Rama IX. Phra Phuttha Maha Thammaracha is considered to be a
sacred image of Phetchabun province. The word phetcha originates from the Sanskrit word vajra meaning “diamond”, and the word bun from Sanskrit means “full”, “perfect” or “whole”. Hence, the province’s name literally means “perfect diamond.” Diamonds are actually found in Phetchabhun, and appropriately, the Provincial Seal shows a diamond on a mountain and in the foreground tobacco plants, which are one of the crops grown in the province. Phetchabun borders three regions of Thailand, the North, Central, and Northeast. The central part of Phetchabun province is in the Pa Sak River basin and contains mountain ranges running along both the western and eastern sectors. Between 1968 & 1982, communist insurgents established a base in the mountains. From hidden locations, they fought occasional skirmishes against the Thai Army.

Phetchabun has a rich history dating back more than 1,400 years, the height of which occurred after the 11th century when the city was a point of contact between the Dvaravati and Khmer Empires. The town was a prosperous center, and many ruins remain for visitors to appreciate at the Si Thep Historical Park. The Park contains ancient ruins, encompassing Si Thep Ancient Town. It is believed to have been built during the boom years of the ancient Khmer empire. A moat and a mound surround the historic town; inside, ponds and swamps dot the compound. Attractions include the Information Centers (there are two: old and new), displaying ancient remains and rotating exhibits on the area’s history and archaeology. Prang Song Phi Nong spire, one of several Khmer-style spires on site, is also noteworthy, built during the 11th or 12th century in Khmer art’s Baphuon style. The Khao Klang Nai Ancient Monument, lying in the center of town, was constructed even earlier, between the 6th or 7th century. Stucco sculptures of humans and animals decorate its base, made in the Dvaravati style. A worshipping ceremony is held annually at the highly revered Chaopho Si Thep Shrine.

The general public was invited to take photos and have a closer look at
the classic and vintage cars out in front of the hotel before the Caravan’s start to Hua Hin. A few of the “stars” in the 50+ car caravan were a 1968 BMW 1600 Cabriolet, a 1956 JAGUAR XK140, and a 1961 TRIUMPH TR3A. Before reaching Hua Hin, the group
made several stops. The first was to the Nantawan Candy House where the association has given scholarships to blind students and scholarships to the Thammikwittaya Phetchaburi School. The procession then headed to the Wat Phet Phli (formerly Wat Priphi), to visit the museum’s temple before heading to Avani Plus Hua Hin Resort,
where a party took place on the beach amongst the car owners and friends. On the second day, the group joined for breakfast at the hotels “Staa’s Restaurant before heading out to the Ban Huai Sai Ngam School in Nong Phlap, where the organization donated to the school’s educational fund. It was then off to lunch at the Monsoon Valley

ould this be paradise found? I’m not talking about some afterlife nirvana but heaven in the here and now. A tropical resort nestled across a crescent-shaped hillside, a natural amphitheater, overlooking a small cove with private beach on the Gulf of Siam. Towering coconut palms gently sway in the cooling ocean breeze, and spectacular uninterrupted views of surrounding islands enthral. Standing in the alfresco Arrivals Sala of Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, I see the lush tropical jungle, catch glimpses of teak roof tiles of nearly hidden villas, and glints of sunlight off villa pools. The only visual references that there is a resort here. This illusion is achieved thanks to renowned architect and landscape designer Bill Bensley’s retention of 800 plus coconut trees, giant tamarind, jackfruit, and mango trees that were already on the site before construction. Located on the north-western tip of Laem Yai Bay on Koh Samui, Thailand’s third-largest, Four Seasons Koh Samui offers perfect seclusion while only a short 30-minute drive from the island’s International Airport. All 60 pool villas are built on stilts amongst the tropical orchid and are reminiscent of the traditional Southern Thai residences that inspired the design. Harmoniously blending Thai design with modern luxury and style, each villa has a private pool and sweeping views of the Gulf, Koh Phangan, and Laem Yai Bay. One Bedroom Pool Villas range from 60 square metres of indoor space, a massive 43 square metres outdoor hardwood deck plus that gloriously luxuriant private infinity pool. Deluxe and Premier Villas are even larger, with 103 square meters of internal space. Nestled on the lush tropical hillside just above the beach are a further seven Beachfront Pool Villas. Family Pool Villas are ideal for couples travelling with young children. These 118 square metre villas are designed for privacy and togetherness and feature a separate sleeping area for the children with its own flat-screen television and even a box of games. The ideal combination of elegance, comfort, and amusement plus your own 15 square metre private infinity pool. Bill Bensley’s thoughtful and inspiring touches are evident in the customdesigned décor. From the tropical rosewood and teak furniture, high thatched ceilings, perfect finishing touches with silk accessories to the custom artwork, all combining to craft a relaxing haven.

Villa ensuite bathrooms feature a spacious dressing area, two elegant vanities, a shell-shaped terrazzo bathtub, a separate glass-walled shower, and a secluded WC, along with sliding glass doors that open onto the sundeck for an open to nature bathing experience. I particularly liked the mosquito net’s romantic tropical feel above the raised king bed, the spacious work desk with its light-filled picture window, and the sense of blended indoor and outdoor living. And the deck - do I lounge on the made-for-two daybed, laze on a sun lounge, flop in the pool, and gaze out at the enthralling view or alternate between each and repeat? The most dramatic of the villas are the two Beach Villas - secluded at the water’s edge. You can’t get any closer to the Peninsula and Gulf of Thailand, with the peaceful sound of waves lapping up on the shore just outside your doors. In addition to the Villas are the expansive 2-4-bedroom Private Retreats for those who would like to rent a ‘home away from home’ with all the luxuries and amenities of a full-service Resort, including 24-hour live-in butler plus access to the Resort’s restaurants,

Ideal for families or groups to share the magic of Samui, they all offer breathtaking views of the ocean and islands. The indoor dining area accommodates up to 10 guests and is serviced by an adjacent fully equipped kitchen. Cook for yourselves or invite a Four Seasons chef to prepare your feasting needs. A separate dining pavilion overlooking the sea is ideal for tropical alfresco eating. The outdoor space and pool deck include comfortable sun lounges and a daybed around your expansive infinity pool.
Adjacent to the Health Club is the Bill Bensley-designed Muay Thai “ring with a view.” Muay Thai or Thai kickboxing has become a popular fitness option for enthusiasts worldwide, using fists, elbows, knees, and shin in this contact sport. Try your hand at throwing a few punches, or hone your technique with the Resort’s expert, with a class to suit every level.
With its own white sandy beach and calm cove, the Resort’s oceanfront is a great place to relax. Complimentary facilities include beach sports such as volleyball, table tennis, soccer, or coconut pétanque. And for sea lovers, take the Resort’s kayaks, boogie boards, and stand-up paddleboards out for an adventure. The 50-metre lap pool completes the beachside relaxation and wellness experience. If looking for a more active workout, the 24-hour Health Club is located in a treetop pavilion with ocean views. This air-conditioned space is equipped with the latest strength and cardiovascular equipment and is complemented by an
Two floodlit hard tennis courts are available on site with a professional trainer on hand to help improve your play. For a more serene workout, a freestanding Yoga Pavilion is open from sunrise to sunset for private instruction or individual yoga sessions. Mats, towels, and water are provided. For running enthusiasts, the Resort has a fun fitness challenge called the Koh Samui K2 Run. Starting at the beach, the route takes guests all the way up to the Resort’s highest point – the Arrival Sala –120 metres above sea level. Some of the pathways up through the Resort are at a 30-degree incline, so this is serious cardio. Resort staff will happily add your time to K2 Run challenge board.
After you have worked up an appetite, delve into the Resort’s dining outlets for superb culinary experiences in marvellous settings. Enjoy breakfast while perched in the treetops with expansive views across the Resort and bay. Or beachside for laid back lunches or stylish dinners at Pla Pla, meaning “many fish” in Thai. This casual oceanside grill is the best location for savouring fresh seafood and prime cuts of meat. Returning to the treetops, KOH’s kitchen offers Southern Thai cuisine that is at once authentic and straight forward, but also introduces less-familiar Thai recipes and flavours. For cooling refreshments, I suggest CoCoRum. Set on the edge of the beachside 50-metre-long infinity lap pool, CoCoRum is the perfect location for a refreshing dip between decadent rum cocktails. With an emphasis on fine artisanal spirits and fresh local ingredients, each drink is handcrafted and presented with elegant and playful touches. A first in Asia, the Rum Vault boasts a collection of over 100 rums and offers guests an opportunity to taste flights of signature cane spirits. Compare labels
from across the world in this intimate library of rums. Be sure to sample Thailand’s own Chalong Bay white rum from Phuket or the Resort’s own El Presidente, which has been blended and aged by the Rum Vault artisans. Sunsets are best enjoyed at KOH Bar, especially the area looking west to Ang Thong National Park. Sink into an oversized sofa and take in the fresh island breezes while sampling some of their signature cocktails. Can I suggest More Than Passion, the Plum Rickey, or their spicy take on a classic – the Koh Thai Sour. Pampering starts at The Secret Garden Spa. As the name suggests, the five spacious indoor-outdoor treatment Salas are nestled in a coconut grove, offering total privacy for individuals or couples. Treatments and services are based on a fusion of techniques from Thai, Yogic, and other Asian cultures. Spa rituals include the use of Thai herbal tonics and organic teas. Massages, body scrubs and wraps, herbal steams, baths, head massages, foot and hand treatments as well as facials are offered in harmony with is-
land traditions. The beauty salon offers hair services, manicures, pedicures, and waxing treatments. Young guests are kept entertained throughout their stay with the kids’ club’s action-packed program featuring beach and outdoor activities, creative crafts, and fun and educational games. Kids and adults can get involved in the Coral Conservation Project led by an in-house marine biologist. Focused on conserving the reef that skirts the Resort, the project is about collecting broken coral, rehabilitating and reintroducing it into the reef. Exploring the idyllic waters of neighbouring Ang Thong National Marine Park is highly recommended. This protected reserve with coral reefs and more than 40 uninhabited islands offers world-class diving and snorkelling. Arrange spectacular private cruises on one of the Resort’s two pleasure cruisers. Both boats offer a great way to experience a day out with family or friends, a sunset champagne cruise, or a trip over the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan.
