The 5th Edition Of Mister National Universe Lands In Bangkok 19 To 27 June 2023

The illustrious Amari Watergate Hotel, a 5-star oasis in the bustling heart of Bangkok, recently played host to a press conference announcing the fifth edition of the esteemed Mister National Universe competition. The event brought together distinguished guests and media representatives from around the world, making it a global spectacle.

The press conference kicked off with a warm welcome from the charismatic Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Seagame Arthit Mekarkard, a titleholder himself

as Mister National Thailand 2016. This was swiftly followed by an inspiring inaugural address from the Honorary Chairwoman of the Competition, Thai socialite and celebrity, Khun Sumanee Gunakasem. Wrapping up the introductory segment was Khun Sukamal Mondal, Area General Manager of Onyx Hotels, who delivered a captivating welcome speech.

Nampradit and Tanasit Patcharawisitphakin, who will represent Thailand in the Mister National Universe 2023 and Mister Fitness Supermodel World contests respectively. One of the most anticipated moments of the event was a revealing conversation with the founder of Mister National Universe, Ms. Lalin Lilpat Nakwat-

jidapa, warmly known as Ms. Tanya. She unveiled exciting details about the previous year’s pageant and shared ambitious plans for the upcoming competition. The event is renowned for its seamless blend of luxury and pageantry, and for offering contestants an unforgettable experience. Khun Tanya proudly announced that Onyx Hotels’ Amari Watergate Bangkok, Amari Don Muang Bangkok, and Shama Lakeview Asoke Bangkok will be the Official Host Hotels for this year’s competition. Ross Park promoted to Executive Assistant Manager at The Athenee Hotel

The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok, is delighted to announce the promotion of Ross Park to the position of Executive Assistant Manager. In his new role, Ross assumes responsibility for sales and marketing, as well as the overall management of the rooms division at the prestigious hotel.

Having previously served as Director of Sales and Marketing, Ross played a crucial role in leading the team through the challenging period of the pandemic and was instrumental in the subsequent success of the hotel during the recovery phase.

With an impressive background in the travel and tourism industry, particularly in the luxury hospitality sector, Ross embarked on his career journey in 1999 with TUI. Over the years, he held various positions within the organization and eventually rose to the position of Regional Sales Manager.

In 2012, Ross made a move to the United Arab Emirates, where he served as Associate Director of Sales with Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts. Following this, in 2016, he joined Marriott International as Director of Sales for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co in Ras Al Khaimah, quickly progressing to the role of Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing.

In early 2020, just prior to the onset of the pandemic, Ross joined The Athenee Hotel, a Marriott International property, as Director of Sales and Marketing. His extensive experience in luxury sector marketing proved invaluable as he successfully guided the hotel through a period when many other establishments were forced to suspend operations. Ross played a pivotal role in the swift recovery of leisure and business guest occupancy, as well as the flourishing MICE calendar at The Athenee Hotel.

For something intimate, maybe L’arome by the Sea in Phuket to watch the sunset with dinner or Clara for a date night. If with friends and family a good hearty Italian meal at Via Emilia is a win.

What do you like to do in your free time, and why?

I don’t tend to get a lot of free time but when work is your passion you

don’t really require it! But I do love to head down to the beach and soak up some sun when I can, I’m a bit of a fish in water so swimming is an activity I really enjoy. I read fiction often and I also host a podcast called On The Back Bar, where I feature interviews with industry leaders and experts across the globe.

Where do you recommend first time visitors to Bangkok go, and why?

Honestly, I’d avoid most of the usual tourist attractions as they are often not amazing and can be quite stressful your first time around as a result of crowds and tourist traps. Instead, I recommend checking out some of Bangkok’s amazing shopping destinations such as Central World, Icon Siam, and Gaysorn Complex, taking a boat taxi up the river to see the temple of dawn, and visiting Rot Fai train market for street food and shopping at night!

On a night out with friends, where do you like to go?

Well generally I frequent many of Bangkok’s incredible cocktail bars as part of my role, but a good night out would start with Champagne or a Cognac cocktail at BKK Social Club by Four Seasons, a quick stop at Vesper for an espresso martini. Recently we just discovered Rimshot an incredible bar in Sukhumvit 22, definitely worth checking out.

Tell us a surprising fact that the public might not know about you?

I’m such an animal lover,. I’ll probably own a small farm one day when I retire. In the meantime, I have a little companion called Spud, he’s a little chubby Hedgehog.

What is the most outlandish thing you have ever done?

I guess moving to Thailand to start a media company with no experience of living in the country is pretty outlandish! Safe to say, I’m glad I took the risk.

The Neilson Hays Library: A Hidden Gem in Bangkok

If you are looking for a quiet and cozy place to enjoy a good book, a cup of coffee, or a cultural event in Bangkok, you will want to visit the Neilson Hays Library. Located on Surawong Road, this library is one of the oldest and most charming institutions in the city, with a history dating back to 1869.

It was designed by Mario Tamagno, an Italian architect who also worked on other landmarks in Bangkok, such as the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and the Hua Lamphong Railway Station. The building was declared a national heritage site by the Fine Arts Department in 1986.

The library houses more than 20,000 books, mostly in English, covering a wide range of genres and topics. You can find contemporary fiction and non-fiction, classics, children’s books, magazines, newspapers, and more. The library also receives new books every month, so you can always discover something fresh and interesting.

As a member of the library, you can borrow up to six books at a time for a period of three weeks. You can also access the library’s online catalog and reserve books in advance. Membership fees vary depending on the type and duration of your membership, but they are very reasonable and help support the library’s operations and maintenance.

Besides being a book lover’s paradise, the library also offers various programs and events for its members and visitors. You can join the monthly book club, where you can discuss your favorite books with other readers. You can also attend concerts, art exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and other cultural activities that are held regularly at the library’s gallery or garden.

If you have children, you can bring them along to enjoy the library’s facilities and services. The library has a dedicated children’s section with books, toys, games, and computers. There are also storytelling sessions, arts and crafts activities, and holiday camps for kids of different ages.

In parallel to the development and releases of these models, a project was going on at TechDAS to bring their dream of the absolute ultimate reference turntable to reality. The goal

of the project was to develop a truly groundbreaking product, building on their expertise and knowledge and incorporating new ideas and insights. To achieve this goal, the project had to be cost-no-object. And it had to have whatever technologies would be best suited for sonic performance, no matter how much it would cost. And cost it did.

The result is the Air Force Zero, a turntable weighing 330 kg, (727 lbs.) and takes two technicians several days to set it up.

A strong motor is needed during startup because there’s a lot of mass to move: The Air Force Zero doesn’t have a platter; it has a stack of platters. On the bottom of the stack is a 15¾”, 80lb platter made of nonmagnetic forged stainless steel; above that is a 43.5lb, 12.2” platter made from the same material; the drive belt, which

is made of “polished and non flexible polyurethane fiber” and isn’t stretchy, wraps around this platter. Above that is a 40lb, 12.2” platter made of cast gunmetal, a form of bronze. The platter second from the top is also stainless steel. It weighs 48.5lb.

The top platter comes in two versions. The standard version is titanium with a “special surface hardening treatment.” It weighs 13lb. For an extra $50,000, you can get a tungsten top platter that weighs 50lb. Both are topped with a soft mat and vacuum-holddown lips.

There are some pieces of equipment that immediately leap to the forefront of the audio world. The TechDAS Air Force Zero turntable is such a piece. It stands at the very pinnacle of audio reproduction, redefining what’s possible to extract from the grooves of an LP.
