Care Resource Provides Telehealth Medical and Behavioral Health Services Remaining Committed to Quality and Accessible Care During COVID-19 In these challenging times, our emotional and physical health is compromised by the risk of COVID-19. In the face of this pandemic, Care Resource is even further committed to providing access to quality and comprehensive healthcare. We consistently strive to keep our patients' holistic health in balance. In order to serve our patients while protecting them from COVID-19 by adhering to the practice of social distancing, we have expanded our telehealth medical and behavioral health services.

Telehealth services are being covered by most commercial insurance carriers, including Medicaid and Medicare. Some insurance plans, such as Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, will cover telehealth services at no cost. Uninsured patients will be charged for the service on a sliding-scale basis. Those enrolled in the Ryan White program will also be able to bene it from telehealth services.

In order to initiate a telehealth session, patients must call the health center and speci ically request a telehealth appointment. Next, patients must download the Zoom application on a mobile device, or visit www.zoom.us in order to connect with a provider via video conference.

Care Resource's Behavioral Health Services Department will also offer all counseling services via telehealth. Our licensed behavioral health specialists are available to discuss the heightened levels of anxiety that our community is experiencing during this time and to offer coping mechanisms. Virtual support and social groups will replace in-person meetings. Emergency counseling services will be provided at all locations in Broward and Miami, but

clients are encouraged to call prior to going in for services. For those patients in our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, medical appointments will be scheduled as usual. If individuals are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, they should contact their provider prior to coming to their appointment in order for alternative arrangements to be made on a case-by-case basis. "We are pleased to offer telehealth services to our patients as a lexible way of having their healthcare needs met, whether it be questions about their symptoms, starting PrEP to prevent HIV, management of chronic illness, or other questions. We offer new and existing patients access to our telehealth visits, thereby reducing all patients' risk of exposure to COVID-19." – Dr. Steven Santiago, Chief Medical Of icer If you have questions, require assistance, or would like to schedule an appointment, contact us at (305) 576-1234 ext. 623 or 635. Please visit www.careresource.org for more information.

RuPaul's Drag Race

Season 12

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Brita

By Scott Holland

T

his week started out with some backlash from last week's challenge as some of the queen's feelings were still hurt. The next day Ru came into the work room to announce this week there would be no mini challenge and the maxi challenge was “Madonna: The Unauthorized Rusical” – where each queen had to be Madonna from a period in her career. Surprisingly they were able to agree on who should take which Madonna pretty quickly. The runway look was your best Michelle Visage, and the special guest judges were U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and supermodel Winnie Harlow. The top 3 were Jan, Gigi and Crystal, with GiGi taking the win. Now it's very rare in 12 seasons

(and 4 all-stars season) when I disagree with Ru about who should have won, and I love GiGi and think she has a very good chance of winning this season, but the clear winner this week was Jan. The bottom 2 were Brita and Heidi with Brita sashaying away. It was a pleasure to sit down with Brita for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name? It's been an interest since I was 19, and then it really sparked in me when I met Alaska and her mom. However, I didn't move forward. As an actor, I performed in Cinderella as a step sister and that really lit a fire under me, and I

came back to the city and started doing drag. The way I picked my name is I met a girl named Brita, and I thought Brita Filter would be a great name and the rest is history.

How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul's Drag Race? How did it feel when you found out you got chosen? I applied once and it felt amazing when I got chosen. It was a dream come true.

Tell us about your RuPaul's Drag Race experience? It was a lot of hard work, and it was definitely the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. However, it was an amazing experience as I learned so much about myself and who I am. It helped me to become a better person in the long run. All the girls became really close, even Aiden and I, we are all sisters. Is there something you wish you did different? I wish I got out of my head, as I was so stressed. I feel like sometimes I was not having fun and drag is supposed to be fun. I have been seeing a therapist to try and relieve this anxiety I have.

You mentioned it a few times on camera, tell me about this entertainer of the year award? It's a prestigious award that's voted on by your peers in NYC who are involved in nightlife. I won it a couple years ago, and it really meant the world to me as I love my community a lot. Your Nicki Minaj parody is iconic, how did this come about? (for those of you who haven't seen it, rush to Brita's Instagram page) I love theater and I love embracing pop culture. I also love Nicki so I wanted to do a homage to her.

What's your marital status? I have a boyfriend who

is wonderful and caring and he is perfect. He lives in L.A., but we go back and forth.

Who do you want to win? Jaida Essence Hall as she is 100% herself all the time. She makes everything she wears, and she is also not afraid to stick up for people even though she may get backlash. She is a true queen, and I adore her.

What's ahead for Brita? After this Quarantine, I really want to do giant production numbers and tour the world. I would also love to do some scripted content and writing. I love telling stories in drag. I think it's

HOT BODIES by Tom Bonanti

BOOST YOUR ENERGY

T

Burn More Calories, and Lift Your Mood with These 5 Routines hese days of social distancing, self-isolation, and staying at home when you really want to get out and have fun can be a real downer. Sure, this new “normal won't last forever, but until all restrictions are lifted and our safety is assured, we've got to make the most of this time. Perhaps the best way to overcome anxiety and stave off depression is to keep active, stay busy and find new ways to take care of ourselves. While most gyms and health clubs are temporarily closed, there are plenty of ways to stay fit and have fun as well. Here are 5 routines that will boost your energy, burn loads of calories, and lift your mood. Most of these activities can be done out in the great Florida sunshine we're experiencing this spring.

Low to Moderate Power Walking: Put the lap-top away and tear yourself away from the daily news for a while and get out and walk! 15-20 minutes of moving can increase your over-all energy level and clear your mind dramatically. Outdoor walks are even better because the fresh air and sunshine can help you kick daily stress and drudgery to the

curb. Take a small pair of hand- held weights with you. Vary your pace. Stop and do a few push-ups. Take different routes, or better yet forge a new nature trail to see things you haven't seen before. Stretching: 10 to 15 minutes of stretching per day can help increase flexibility (a vital component of over-all fitness), alleviate tension, and refresh your energy levels. Start with large muscle groups first, stretch back, chest, legs, core, arms and legs. You don't have to master any sophisticated form of stretching, just find some movements that don't create discomfort, hold for 20 seconds, and move on to the next body part. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Don't get scared with this one. HIIT is a simple concept of combining several movements or exercises at high intensity interspersed with brief recovery periods. You can get creative here. Example: do 2 minutes of stretches and crunches on a mat; follow this with 2 minutes of jumping jacks and running in place; proceed with 2 minutes of push-ups and planks; hop on the exercise bike (if you have one) and pedal at a moderate pace for 5 minutes; do some push-ups on the floor or against a countertop and dips off a chair or bench for 3 minutes;

skip rope and hit a speed bag for 3 minutes; stretch and breathe on the mat to unwind. Strength Training: You don't need a fully equipped gym. All you need is a couple of dumbbells or a few inexpensive, home-made rubber resistance bands. Go online to find a routine or make up your own to get a mighty overall pump! Swimming: This is a wonderful low impact form of cardio that is therapeutic for the joints and soothes tired, sore muscles. Swimming is a surefire way to cool off, relieve stress and recharge energy levels.

How She Learned to Let Go of Fear The LGBTQ icon has chosen to focus on the ‘beautiful change’ the COVID-19 pandemic will bring

By Chris Azzopardi

Throughout her dynamic threedecade career, Melissa Etheridge has beat cancer and weathered the devastating emotional toll of the AIDS crisis. Having overcome her own battles, the music legend consequently became a beacon of strength, resilience and survival and has turned her

tribulations into musical catharsis. Given her collective courage in facing life’s most unexpected challenges, I decided to turn to her recently. I wrote to the music legend and LGBTQ activist on Twitter to ask if she’d be willing to speak to me about how she’s handling the unprecedented

coronavirus pandemic and its resulting fallout the day after a national shutdown that closed schools, workplaces, restaurants and forced promoters and artists to cancel tours. Etheridge was about to play a long stretch of shows in the United States and Europe, but that was canceled too. During our interview, Etheridge brought her cool head and optimistic outlook as we discussed the unsettling state of our dramatically changed world.

How are you? And I mean that. You know, we are all well. We’re in the new day, the new world, like all of us, and trying to igure this all out, but we’re all good.

Considering everything, I’m glad to hear that. This is our new not-normal normal, isn’t it? And it’s like, how do we shift to this new life that we will be living for probably quite some time. Yeah. Well, one, the music industry’s been hit so hard. I try not to worry, but it’s like ... I worry. My whole crew and band – I’m not making any money, and it’s like, Whoa. All of a sudden it really hits you, and it’s like, Come on, is this two weeks? One month? Two months? How long am I not gonna make any money? I can certainly get by for a while, but my crew and stuff – I try not to worry. But it’s going to be a big, fat hardship. You were about to go out on tour when some shows began being canceled because

of COVID. Yeah, yeah. Well, it was gonna go till May and then I was gonna have a little bit off in May and June, and then I was gonna go over to Europe at the end of June and come back to America.

And you thought, for a time, that you’d brave it. (Laughs.) Yeah. I was like, “No, no – I’m not scared of nothing!” But then, all of a sudden, it was like, “Oh, no, never mind. I get what we’re doing now.” It became that the thing that we can do to keep this from spreading is to keep away from each other.

I took a run today and I don’t usually run, but I had your song “I Run for Life” on and it was getting me through so I just looped it. I just played it four times in a row and ran through my neighborhood. It was a great feeling. And I’m realizing that we have to look to small joys right now. For me, that was a small joy. Where are you inding your small joys right now? I’ll tell you what I’m doing and I just inished: I’ve been going live on Facebook every day at 3 o’clock PST. It just helps me so much. I do two or three songs and just say hey to people. We kind of meet together at the same time and thousands of people all over the world are joining me and it really means a lot. You said it helps you – how so?

Oh gosh, yes. ’Cause that’s what I do. I sing for people. And when a body sings, it heals. It brings just as much joy to me as it does to other people.

So in addition the inancial impact of canceling your tour, it sounds like there’s also a personal loss for you. Oh yeah. I had taken a big break the last time. I was on the road in November and I was like, “I’m gonna take the holidays off and really not get that going until March.” That’s a big, long break for me, and I like to get up in front of people and I like the adoration of thousands of people, you know (laughs). It makes me feel good! I’m a road person. I love gettin’ on the road with my crew and my band and playing music. I just love it. I do that. That’s what I do. I love it.

What’s so hard to come to terms with is that in times of crises, live music has helped heal. But we don’t have that now, and might not for a while. Oh, it’s just awful.

But you’re doing what you can to connect with fans on social media. How about connections in your personal life? Is your family with you? Yes. My two older kids – one is in New York City and she got out and went to a friend’s in Washington D.C. and she’s staying there. I have another in Denver and he’s OK. I wish they were all here. My two little ones are here with my wife, so we’re camping out here. And we take

walks and do stuff – and we’re six feet from our neighbors, but we’re all much more friendly because it’s that connection that we miss.

I remember you told me about three years ago when Trump got elected, “I will not fear.” With this, are you scared? Do you fear? And if not, how did you get to that place of fearlessness? It started 15 years ago with cancer, how I understood fear and how I understood what our everyday is made of, what our world and reality is made of and all its choices and that choice always comes down to two basic emotions: love or fear. All the other emotions can be categorized in there. I have many choices of how to respond or react to this virus, to everything that’s going on with it. I could be very fearful. I could be fearful for my health, fearful for our system. I could choose fear. Or I could look at it and go, “OK.” And sometimes it’s hard to do this, to say, “I’m going to look at this and I’m going to see what is the loving outcome that can happen here.” And I choose to do that every day. Like I’ve said, I look at my neighbors and all of a sudden I’m looking them in the eyes, all of a sudden people are wanting that social connection. Take that away from us and all of a sudden we’re like, “Wait a minute. I want that.” I think this is going to change our whole system. It’s going to change our education system, it’s going to change our health system,

We will be forced to make major shifts in these various paradigms once we get through this. Yeah. Big corporations are not gonna have anybody to buy their products soon if they don’t look and say, “Something’s gotta change.” And we’re going to change leadership. I truly believe that. I truly believe there will be a huge leadership change and it’s gonna be people with new ideas and new ways of doing this. So this sort of quantum leap that we all felt could come since 2012, there’s big change coming, and we all wanted it. It’s sort of like this big bow that’s been pulled back really far and inally there’s gonna be so much desire for that change now because of understanding how interconnected we are. We’re gonna see that change, and 10 years from now we’re gonna look back and go, “Wow, it was really, really hard but I’m glad it happened because these changes were made.” So that’s how I don’t fear. I constantly think, What’s the good? Look for the helpers. Find the Italians singing on the balcony. There’s beautiful things that show what our humanity is. That’s what we can do now. That’s how you don’t fear.

And I think you’re right: This will bring us into unity. And it starts with leadership change and that’s going to come in a few months. I think it’s going to be huge. People are going to go, “That sucked, and we’re not going to go through that again.” (Laughs.)

What did you learn about pandemic panic from living through the worst of the AIDS pandemic? That there are really good, smart people in the world who were made for this, who were made to make change and to put pressure on government and institutions to change. Really smart people that were born for this. And they’re rising to the occasion right now.

How did the irst live stream go? Aww. It was so, so sweet. It felt so good, and it was so great to see people from all over the world. And that’s the thing: The whole world is

going through this. The whole world! And music really goes beyond language and goes straight to the heart and I love that. I feel being a musician is being a healer.

A song that helped get you through your battle with cancer is helping me get through this, and it’s Patty Grif in’s “When It Don’t Come Easy,” from her album Impossible Dream, which I’ve had in heavy rotation while physically distancing. Where does a song like that take you? Sometimes I don’t know what it is about a song that can do that, but a song can just hit a part of your emotional center and it can be in the voice, it can be in the music, it can be when she just sings, “If you get lost, I’ll come out and ind you; if you forget my love, I’ll try to remind you, stay by you when it don’t come easy.” Just knowing that one human being sang that to another human being, and then just knowing that it exists in our emotional world can ill that part of you up. So, I’m so grateful for all the other musicians who have inspired me and do that because that’s our job, and it’s our time to do our job now. You’re feeling the call? It’s funny: I’m feeling the call to perform. I’m a little overwhelmed by the writing right now because I’m right in the middle of it. You sit down and you go, “It’s too big to look at, it’s

it’s going to change because there’s going to be such a humongous economic crash that we’re going to have to change the way our system is set up.

New Music to Add to Your Quarantine Playlist

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

From the moment the prospect of

quarantining became reality,

coronavirus/quarantine/COVID-19 playlists

began popping up on Spotify. Some are pretty good and a few are very well thought out, but

most are full of top 40 hits and mainstream

staples. Here are a few tracks worth adding

from some of our favorite out artists.

Most of the topics that Jay Maq explores in his music have to do with grown-andsexy love. From longing for it, healing after being used by it or wasting it on someone who doesn't want it. In “No Love,” his chilled island, dancehall track, he questions whether or not it is a crime to break someone's heart. It's a smooth, emotional and coy ballad; reminiscent of Monica, Ashanti and Toni Braxton. Its music video is also a must-see. It depicts Jay Maq being arrested for a love crime and forced to go through the judicial system. Though intended to be humorous, there is a serious side to it, too, as the video parallels the harsh reality faced by men of color who are unfairly imprisoned for non-violent offences.

Justin Utley unleashes his inner Nine Inch Nails in “American Nightmare,” his angst-ridden Industrial rock anthem that takes aim at conversion therapy, and the current state of our union's blind allegiance with political parties and religion. It's a different sound for the young singer who first rose to prominence in the altcountry pop realm with songs like "Stand for Something," winner of Best Country/Folk Song of the year by the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts. Utley admits he has been wanting to explore the edgier side of himself and he does so in this track. The loud-soft dynamics serve as barbed hooks, drawing listeners into Utley's world. The lyrics are personal, opaque, and dark. The guitars are loud and aggressive. The music video is captivating with Utley shining as an anti-authoritarian punk artist with a gentle soul and smoking body.

At long last, Jack Tracy has released the final part of his epic trilogy album, showcasing a wide slice of the LGBTQ perspective. Part 1 was bold and brassy, Part 2 was thematically heavy, tackling subjects like body image and the legitimacy of gay sex work. Part 3 is the wind down, full of bedroom jams that all stem from love. There is “Some Type of Way,” an intoxicating and explicit love song that doesn't shy away from mature gay themes; “Learned Me (With You),” about a first sexual experience; “For You,” a love song to Jack's inner child; and “Insatiable,” a no-holds barred erotic track. Be sure to check out the video for “Insatiable,” where Jack gets slutty and butty. This is an exceptional final chapter of work from an artist that we expect to see a lot more from, both musically and bodily.

This superior-crafted mid-tempo pop/soul track about the personal and physical struggles of ageism, and finding the inner-strength to triumph, may be the song that helps Fairman achieve the lofty goals he has long been after. Written by the artist along with his long-time engineer and producer, Kyle Mangels, “Other Side” is a beautiful piece of work, highly emotive, where the singer takes a page from Lukas Graham, recalling his hopes, his failures and his dreams. The vocals are stellar. The orchestrations are lush with a strong melodic sense. The relatable and optimistic message is wonderfully encouraging to anyone who has ever felt alone and disconnected – as many of us in quarantine are feeling now.
