On a day that signifies the importance of love and companionship, many people find it rewarding to show their loved ones just how much they mean. If you’re in the gift-giving spirit this Valentine’s Day, you may find a bit of inspiration with these ideas.
Just remember, whether you’re celebrating the relationship with your significant other or showing appreciation for a friend, the best gifts come from the heart.
Food – If your partner is a foodie, a Valentine’s Day date is an obvious choice. Make a reservation at his or her favorite restaurant or opt for takeout and enjoy quiet time together in the comfort of home. Satisfy that special someone’s sweet tooth with a classic box of chocolates or create a personalized candy basket full of guilty pleasures.
Jewelry – Whether you’ve been together a year, a decade or more, it’s a perfect
opportunity to splurge for a gift he or she will cherish for a lifetime. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, anklets, watches and more all make for perfect gifts that can often be customized with engravings like names or important dates.
Experiences – Oftentimes, the gift of moments together means more than a trinket. Consider the things you enjoy doing side by side and schedule a day or weekend to do nothing but your favorite activities.
Book a tour at a local museum, find tickets tothe next big game, sit frontstage for a favorite band or road trip to a nearby attraction for new sights and sounds.
Subscriptions – Gifts don’t always need to be sentimental. Sometimes, they can be downright practical. Creating an account for a new streaming service or music platform, signing up for monthly food or wine gift boxes and buying ticket packages for a favorite local team are all gifts that keep on giving.
Handwritten Notes and Flowers time to write what you appreciate most about your special someone – personality traits, favorite memories, thoughtful gestures and why they’re important to you –and pair your note with favorite flowers. Gifts may spark a smile, but sharing a moment of connection offers a reminder of what you’re celebrating in the first place.

Palace Bar, South Beach’s legendary LGBTQ+ venue, is set to celebrate its 37th anniversary with a week-long extravaganza ending on February 17, themed Moulin Rouge. As part of the celebration, Black trans advocate, TV personality, and RuPaul’s Drag Race star TS Madison will take center stage on Saturday, February 15, bringing her signature wit, wisdom, and unapologetic presence to the festivities.
This year’s anniversary takes on new significance in light of President Trump’s recent statement defining Americans exclusively as “he” and “she.” Standing firm as a beacon of inclusivity, Palace Bar continues to shatter limitations and celebrate all identities—because at Palace, the only requirement is to be fabulous.
“Palace Bar has always been more than a bar—it’s a sanctuary, a stage, and a family for everyone, no matter how they identify,” said AJ Prasaguet, General Manager of Palace
Bar. “This year, we knew we needed someone bold, brilliant, and fiercely authentic to help us celebrate, and TS
Never one to hold back, TS Madison had her own take on the importance of this moment: “Listen, honey, if Trump thinks he can erase us with a few tired words, he’s got another thing coming! Baby, we are here, we are queer, and we come in every shape, size, and gender under the sun!”
It was a pleasure to sit down with TS Madison for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
At what age did you realize that you were trans or that you were different?
I knew I was different very early; I realized I was trans when I was 17 in 1992. When I saw the Crying Game is when I realized what I was.
When did you come out to your family and loved ones?
When I was 19, I was forced into making the out loud statement because I had gotten into it with a queen who tried to attack me about her boyfriend. They came to my birthday party and my family was there and my mom was asking questions and thought I was gay and I had to explain to her he met me as a woman.
Was the plan always to be in entertainment or when did that happen.
Yes, it was always my plan to be an entertainer. I remember being young (about
Season. I was in the crowd for the finale, and she stood up and said is TS Madison in the room, and she said to stand up, and I did. Ru said “I follow her on vine.” It was great to meet her; it was so much fun. About a year later she tweeted me to ask if I still do music and when I said yes, she put me on her album “Butch Queen.”
You went from guest judge to rotating judge, how did that happen?
After Silky played me in the Snatch Game in season 11, I had a series called “Let me pick you up,” and one of the guests were Ru Paul. When she was on, I asked to be a judge, and she said you will be. A couple years later I started guest judging on season 13. They then asked me, after a few years, to be a permanent rotating judge. How did Bring back my girls happen, and how fun is that to do?
WOW came to me and asked me to host a reunion. They told me they like it so much and they know how much the girls love me so they created Bring Back My Girls for me to host. We just got nominated for a Queerty for best web series.
How did you get the part in Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black and how was it to film?
I got the part when a casting agent sent me over the script and didn’t tell me who it was from. I passed as it was too ironic as it was about a trans girl doing butt shots. They came back to me and told me it was for Tyler Perry, so I couldn’t pass on the audition, but I honestly didn’t put much into it. They called me back and said to do the audition better and for me to send my personal number and I did it and then I got the part. I think Tyler wanted me.
I love Tamron Hall, and you have been on her show a couple times, how was that?
Many people say they are an ally, but Tamron is an ally and she has been a supporter of mine for a long time. She always wants people to know that I am a voice for different marginalized groups, and to merge both our voices together is a way to make change.
You created A Safe House for Black Trans Women; how did that happen? And thank you!
It happened because I moved and bought a new house, and I didn’t know what to do with the old house. A sister of mine, Dominique Morgan, said you need to leave a legacy for yourself, and you have to do things for the community. And I said to
myself, what more can I do for the community and a light bulb went off. I realized then what I would do. My old house was so special as so many important things happened to me in that house. That house was so special to me I wanted that specialness to drip on the other girls that need help.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Loud, Live and in Color. What do you do for fun?
I love going to movies, or stay home watching movies.
Are you excited about being back in Miami for the Palace’s 37th anniversary?
Anytime I am in Miami and have spare time, the Palace is where I go, so I am so excited they invited me to host their 37th anniversary. There are so many talented queens that have come from there and have made it on drag race. It’s amazing I can come and do this in my home base. What does the future hold for you?
The future holds what the creator set me on this earth to do, and that is something I don’t know. I have a dream of what I want it to be, but my only job is to do what the creator set me up to do.

The Moulin Rouge-themed anniversary week kicked off on February 10, with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and official proclamation of “Palace Day” on February 13, featuring the Miami Beach Commissioner—a moment that reaffirms Palace Bar’s enduring commitment to unity, diversity, and freedom of expression. Each night will bring dazzling performances, show-stopping surprises, and the signature fabulousness that has made Palace Bar an institution since 1988.

An
chef famous throughout the world, from Rome
Miami:
Cooking is a momentary pleasure. You savor it, you feel it and then it remains only in your memories. But there is a way to make the kitchen borderless and timeless: how? Iris, the undisputed queen of carbonara in Rome, explains it to you firsthand: she is in fact a culinary icon who continues to amaze with her 93 years of age.
Since she set foot in the kitchen at just 13 years old, the elderly chef has never stopped cultivating her passion for gastronomy. “I started by washing dishes but then, with my eyes, I stole the secrets of good Ro-man cuisine,” she recalls in an interview with Corriere. “During the war we made Strozzapreti, strictly by hand, and sold them to the laborers. Today she runs eight restaurants, carrying on a culinary legacy begun in the 1920s by her grandmother Fortunata.
The “Da Fortunata” tavern, named in honor of Iris' grandmother, has become a point of reference for traditional Roman cuisine, with carbonara continuing to be the most popular dish. Every day, Iris welcomes famous clients, VIPs, politicians and tourists, all of whom have in common
being lovers of good food. The chef treats everyone with respect and courtesy. This mood is reflected in the high regard she enjoys among Roman and international customers. Her ability to create an unforgettable experience is what makes her a true legend of Italian cuisine. Iris also personally handles the management of her restaurants, leading with firmness and determination to create a real family team. With four restaurants in Rome, two in Milan, one in Bologna and one in Miami Beach, her brand employs 480 people.
The key to Iris's success lies in her simple but effective philosophy: do only a few things, do them well and always in the same way. Her consistent presence in any of her eight restaurants, from 11am to 7pm, is a tangible sign of her commitment and passion for cooking. In every dish prepared by Iris you can taste the love for tradition and attention to detail. The pasta makers, always in plain sight in the shop window, add visual intrigue and interest, while defining the identity of the brand.
In all of this, Iris's skill goes beyond the simple preparation of dishes: she embodies the values of courtesy, generosity and dedication towards her employees, who she considers an integral part of her large family.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is proud to present an evening of celebration of life and legacy through dancing with Ailey II on February 28, at 8pm in Knight Concert Hall. Ailey II is widely celebrated for blending the vibrant energy and talent of the nation’s top early-career dancers with the innovative vision and passion of today’s leading emerging choreographers. The critically acclaimed ensemble will inspire with performances including Alvin Ailey’s Streams, Houston Thomas’ Down the Rabbit Hole and Francesca Harper’s Luminous, a work that pays homage to the 50th anniversary of Ailey II and the artists who paved the way for future generations.
Founded in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble and led by Sylvia Waters for 38 seasons, Ailey II has advanced Alvin Ailey’s vision for more than five decades by giving early-career dancers a bridge from world-class training at The Ailey School to the professional stage. Led by Artistic Director Francesca Harper, Ailey II’s dancers bring their technical mastery and emotional depth to works by the most daring established and emerging

choreographers. Just as Mr. Ailey envisioned, the company continues to develop the next generation of performers and dancemakers while expanding audiences through global touring and community-based performances.
“This season Ailey II will thrill audiences across the country with mesmerizing premieres alongside returning favorites and iconic dances by Alvin Ailey,” Francesca Harper said. “The 12 rising stars of the company will ignite, unite, and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds while honoring the legacy and creative spirit of Mr. Ailey.”
Houston Thomas’ world premiere Down the Rabbit Hole is a continuation of the choreographer’s Follow the White Rabbit (2022) and expands on its themes, examining the relationship between humans and technology. Inspired by The Matrix film series, Down the Rabbit Hole explores how technology weaves into the fabric of daily life, transforming how we as humans interact and function. Set to music by Johannes Goldbach and Pomassl, this high-powered piece begs the question: Technological change - are we powering it or is it powering us?
In addition to the exciting premiere, the performance will also feature Alvin Ailey’s Streams, an abstract exploration of bodies in space, danced to a percussion score by Miloslav Kabelac; and Francesca Harper’s Luminous, a work that pays homage to the 50th anniversary of Ailey II and the artists who paved the way for future generations.
This season, eight new dancers—Carley Brooks, Meredith Brown, Jennifer M. Gerken, Xavier Logan, Xhosa Scott, Darion Tuner, Eric J. Vidaña, and South Florida native Jordyn White—join the four returning members Alfred L. Jordan II, Kiri Moore, Corinth Moulterie, and Kayla Mei-Wan Thomas.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Corinth Moulterie for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
At what age did you begin performing?
I started dancing in church and it was an extracurricular activity. I started training when I got into high school.
What was your first professional dance gig?
It was when I joined Ailey II? When did you know performing would be your career?
When I got to high school and started training is when I made the decision that I can do this for a living. How did it feel when you got hired to be an Alvin Ailey dancer?
I was ecstatic. Seeing Ailey for the first time when I was in high school, I saw myself on that stage. It was the first time I saw dancers that looked like me on stage. Being accepted into this company made me overjoyed and it is a place I can definitely be celebrated. What is your all-time favorite dance piece that you performed?
If I had to choose, I would say Revelations, as I remember the first time, I saw it and how impactful it was to me. So, to be able to perform it and go on tour with it is really rewarding to me.
What is your favorite thing about touring?
New experiences, trying new things and going to places I have never been. I am learning so much being in all these different cities that I have never been to before. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Free-spirited, open-minded, and creative
What do you do for fun?
I love all things art. I am a big art nerd. Whether it’s seeing live music, sketching something, going to museums, singing, …I just love being immersed in art.
What should our readers expect from this production of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater?
I think just a variety of different styles. Francesca Harper’s grace, veracity and her iconic stature and presence are qualities they will see in this production. For more information on Corinth, you can follow him on Instagram.com/corinth.m

When it comes to diets, there’s no shortage of options. One day, carbs are the enemy; the next, we’re told to eat like our ancestors or ditch plants altogether. With so many choices, how do you know which one is right for you? In this edition of HotBodies we are breaking down some of the most popular diets, their benefits, and how you can ease them into your everyday routine without feeling like you’ve joined a food cult.
A low-carb, high-fat diet designed to put your body into a state of ketosis, where it burns fat for energy instead of carbs.
The Benefits:
• Can help with rapid weight loss
• Improves mental clarity and energy
• Reduces cravings by keeping you fuller longer
How to Apply It:
• Replace bread and pasta with low-carb alternatives
• Focus on healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and cheese
• Plan meals ahead to avoid carb-loaded
A diet that consists exclusively of animal products - meat, fish, eggs, and some dairy, while completely eliminating fruits, vegetables, grains, and plant-based foods.
The Benefits:
• High in protein and essential fats
• May help reduce inflammation and digestive issues for some
• Eliminates processed foods and sugars completely
How to Apply It:
• Start by increasing your intake of animal-based foods while reducing carbs
• Focus on nutrient-rich meats like beef, lamb, and organ meats
• Keep meals simple - grilled steak, eggs, and bone broth are staples
Based on what our ancestors supposedly ate, this diet focuses on whole foods like meat, fish, fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds while avoiding processed foods, grains, and dairy.
The Benefits:
• Eliminates processed junk
• Supports muscle growth with high protein intake
• May help with weight management
How to Apply It:
• Swap cereal for eggs in the morning
• Use almond flour instead of regular flour for baking
• Keep healthy snacks like nuts and jerky on hand
Rather than focusing on what to eat, it focuses on when to eat, cycling between periods of eating and fasting (e.g., 16 hours fasting, 8 hours eating).
The Benefits:
• Supports weight loss and metabolism
If you want to start a diet my advice is to not think of dieting as a chore or an obligation, instead use it as a guideline for adapting to healthier habits. This process not only will lead you to the best shape of your life, but will also make you more in tune with your Hot body, and all its needs and wants. You become more disciplined, and more aware of the foods you choose to consume.
So now that you are familiar with these popular diets, remember there’s not a one-size-fits-all diet. The best diet is the one you can stick to without feeling miserable, they’re supposed to make you feel great. At the end of the day, balance is key. We learn to become more responsible with our nutrition, but don’t get too paranoid because life’s too short to never eat pizza again. Enjoy responsibility
What diet style speaks to you the most?

This high-flying musical that has been thrilling audiences of all ages for close to 70 years has been brought back to life in a new adaptation by celebrated playwright Larissa FastHorse, directed by Emmy Award winner Lonny Price and choreography by Lorin Latarro.
The adventure begins when Peter Pan and his mischievous sidekick, Tinker Bell, visit the bedroom of the Darling children late one night. With a sprinkle of fairy dust and a few happy thoughts, the children are taken on a magical journey they will never forget. This extraordinary musical full of excitement and adventure features iconic and timeless songs including “I’m Flying,” “I Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Neverland.” Peter Pan embraces the child in us all so go on a journey from the second
star to the right and straight on till morning –your entire family will be hooked.
“Peter Pan is one of the great treasures of the American Musical Theatre,” said Lonny Price. “The show nurtures and inspires the imagination of its audience and reminds us to keep alive the child within us all.”
“I am thrilled to be part of bringing Peter Pan to life for a new generation,” said Larissa FastHorse. “If you loved this musical before, you will still see the show that enchanted you, while discovering a Peter Pan that everyone can enjoy, without harm, for many years to come.”
Jonah Barricklo will play the iconic role of ‘Peter Pan’ and joining him will be Cody Garcia as ‘Captain Hook’ who most recently starred as ‘Willy Wonka’ in the national tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and as ‘Buddy’ in Elf. Hawa Kamara, is making her professional debut as Wendy! A wildly charismatic young actress, who’s as talented
as she is beautiful.
Peter Pan is based on Sir James M. Barrie's classic tale and originally directed, choreographed and adapted by Broadway legend Jerome Robbins.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Jonah Barricklo (Peter pan) for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?
I grew up as part of a performing family. My dad works in the theater and my parents put me in dance classes as a little kid. I got roped into a production of Annie, by my
I really loved it. I went to many different performing classes/schools when I was young before going to college to get a BFA in musical theater.
What was your first professional gig?
Technically I was 10 and I did regional production of “Matzo and Miracles.” I played a grandson of a family of whose Bubbie spins the tale of Passover.
When did you know performing would be your career?
I think it was some point in high school as I went to a public arts high school, both in NYC and Boston. Midway through High School I realized how much I enjoyed performing and I wanted to keep doing it, so I decided it would be my career and that’s why I majored in Musical Theater in College. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else.
Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?
Most recently I played a sailor in “Anything Goes” which is full of tap dancing, which is rare these days. Since I love tap it was so much fun to tap dance for an entire show.
What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but would die to play)?
There are so many, but I think I would love to play Riff in West Side Story. What’s the best thing about touring?
The travel as I really never saw a lot of the country growing up, so now I have gotten to see so much of the country in the last year and a half, it’s amazing. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Thoughtful, hard-working, and excited. What do you do for fun?
I finally returned to reading for my own enjoyment. I also love photography and I am traveling with a couple cameras. I love taking photos of the different cities I am in.
How exciting is it to play Peter Pan?
It’s pretty amazing, as he is so full of energy and wonder and curiosity that’s it’s a lot of fun to step into his shoes and look at the world a little differently.
I love the Flying in the show, how fun is that?
Just as magical as it looks. It’s exhilarating, and it’s so unique to Peter Pan. Finally, what should our readers expect from this touring company of, “Peter Pan”
I think you should expect a really fun night that really anyone can enjoy. I think we have also done a really good job adjusting the production to a modern audience so everyone can enjoy the show.

If you’re feeling pressured to plan the perfect Valentine’s Day date, it may be time to veer away from tradition. While flowers, chocolates and dinner for two is a classic, thinking outside the box can make for just as romantic of an experience. Consider these simple date ideas to reduce stress and make your day extra special.
Learning something new together can be a great way to bond with your significant other. Research dance studios in your area and book a lesson for a night out. Many studios offer new or first-time discounts and typically have a variety of lessons available from ballroom to salsa, cha cha and more. If dancing isn’t really your thing, consider another skill-building class you can do together like pottery, cooking or painting, for example.
Take a trip down memory lane and go back to the beginning of your relationship by recreating your first – or a favorite – date. Whether you went bowling, mini golfing, to dinner and a movie or something else entirely, reliving the past can be a special way to connect and show your partner how
much you care.
If it’s too cold outside for an actual picnic, clear some space in your living room and throw down a blanket. Pack a basket of finger foods like sandwiches, cheese and crackers, fruit, a bottle of wine and dessert for a romantic meal for two in the comfort of home.
A getaway doesn’t have to mean going far from home. Become tourists in town by booking a night at a nearby hotel and visiting some local landmarks you’ve been wanting to check out or haven’t experienced in a while. A simple break from routine can make for an enjoyable escape, even if you’re only a few miles from home.
If the last time you had your photo professionally taken was on your wedding day or a family vacation, hire a photographer for a couples photo session, and use it as an opportunity to create fun memories together.
Many photographers offer mini sessions, which only take 15-30 minutes, leaving time for a night out afterward. For an inexpensive option, have a friend take a few casual pictures or use a selfie stick to help document your date.
Restaurants are often booked up on Valentine’s Day, so try something different this year and make a special home-cooked meal together. Whether you make a tried-and-true favorite or whip up something new, like a heart-shaped dish, you’ll bond over the experience while creating a tangible (and hopefully tasty) reward once the oven timer dings. Then dim the lights, play some soft music and light some candles to create a romantic ambience while enjoying dinner together.
Take a day – or a weekend – and venture to a destination you haven’t been before on a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway. Even if traveling far away isn’t possible right now, exploring a town or two over allows you to check out new restaurants, stores or other attractions and get out of your comfort zones.

Creative cutouts. Places and moments hold special places in the heart, so memorialize them with decorative wall hangings. Use a treasured photo or map of destinations you hold dear as the base layer. Next, choose a design, such as a heart or a romantic word like “love.” Print your design then trace it on a piece of foam core or matting. Cut out the design to create an opening and layer it over the photo or map. To finish the project, either affix the top layer to the bottom and display as-is or place it in a pretty frame.
Handmade Valentine’s Day decor is a crafty way to put your love on display. Add a little TLC to your home or share your affection with loved ones by dedicating some time to simple DIY projects that come straight from the heart.
Sucker for succulents. Hardy and easy to care for, succulents are a stylish way to add some plant life to your home. Add a romantic twist by gathering a selection of small succulents in a variety of colors and textures then clustering them in a heart-shaped basket or planter. Succulents also make great gifts; just create a small planter and attach a card that conveys your heartfelt thoughts.
Love is in the cards. Almost everyone has a deck or two of old playing cards laying
around, or they’re an inexpensive investment. Using the red-hued cards from the heart suite, punch holes in the top of each card. String heart-themed ribbon through the holes to make a whimsical banner you can hang on a wall or across a doorway.
There’s no right or wrong way from there; just loop from one nail to another until your design is obvious. Tie off your string, trim any excess end pieces and you’re done.
Say it in string. Expressing yourself with string art is an easy project suitable for all ages. Start with a firm backing, such as a scrap of lightweight wood. Add a base coat of paint to make your design pop then sketch your design. Examples like a flower, heart, word or some combination of those are all good choices for a Valentine’s Day project. Add thin nails in 1/2-inch intervals along the border of your design. Select your string and tie an end to the nail of your choice.
Collage of comrades. Paying tribute to those you hold near and dear is easy with a stylized cork board. Select snapshots of loved ones and attach them to a basic corkboard using push pins in classic Valentine’s colors like red, white and pink. Then add accents with tape, stickers, gemstones and other embellishments.
