Widow
By Scott Holland
T
his week Ru explains to the competitors that Americas Next drag superstars pussy needs to be on fire 24/7, so for the mini challenge the “gurls” are auditioning for the title of “Kitty Girl 2020,” sponsored by Prettylitter.com. They have 15 mins to get into quick drag. The winner was Jackie Cox who received a $2,500 gift card to Fierce Drag Jewels. Ru then goes on to say that elections are serious business, and encourages everyone to vote. However, this week she would like
to lift the spirits of America and she feels it’s time for a Drag Queen President, so the “gurls” will be speaking at “Choices 2020.” This will be the most fabulous Presidential debate in “herstory.” They each must present their platform and answer questions from the press. Before the debate, in the workroom, their political advisor was Raven. The guest judges this week were Rachel Bloom and Jeff Goldblum and the runway look was “Stars and Stripes Forever.” The top looks were Sherry, Heidi and the winner Jaida. The bottom two were Widow
and Jackie with Widow sashaying away. It was a pleasure to sit down with Widow for this Hotspots interview:
At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name? I was 17 years old and it started because I was helping my community raise money for gay pride. I picked my first name because I had a big love for Widow Spiders and my last name came from Erika Von Do. How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and how did it feel when you found out you got chosen? I tried out twice and when I got the call I thought someone was pranking me. When I found out it was real I realized everything I worked at for the last 13 years was not in vain.
Tell us about your RuPaul’s Drag Race experience? I had a very lovely time. It was something that definitely pushed my boundaries, and took me from a queen who just dances on stage and speaks on the microphone to a queen who can act, do choreography, and many other skills. I also got to meet some legendary icons.
Is there something you wish you did different? I wish I would have slayed the last lip synch….LOL, but otherwise I am happy with my performance. What’s your marital status? I am still happily married.
Who do you want to win? I’m rooting for Jaida, because I just love her. She is sickening.
What’s ahead for Widow? The future holds me releasing my album on October 31. I am also working on tour options and building a show
right after this pandemic is over.
Is there anything I didn’t ask you that you want to talk about? Yes, people need to get out and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

WHAT’S HOT
By Scott Holland
What’s HOT TO DO DURING QUARANTINE! Dead To Me Season 2 One of my favorite new shows from last year, “Dead To Me,” returns On May 8 on Netflix, and follows Jen (Christina Applegate), Judy (Linda Cardellini) and the lies that entwine them.
Picking up in the aftermath of that bloody backyard reveal, the irrepressible pair once again struggle to keep their secrets buried. With a surprising new visitor in town and Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) hot on their heels, Jen Dragcast with Nina West and Judy and Patricia Clarkson take
drastic measures to protect their loved ones and each other -- no matter the cost. From Emmy Award-winning creator Liz Feldman, Dead to Me returns for an addictively dark second season, where the stakes are higher, the friendship is deeper and the traumas that bond loom larger than ever before. Beautiful Masks There’s a new fashion accessory that we simply can’t avoid in this new era - masks! The CDC has been recommending the use of face masks in public for a while now, and it looks like we’re going to be in this period of social distancing and heightened precautions for quite some time. This means masks are going to be a must-have fashion item to have when going to the grocery store, going for a walk or a run in the park, or going to the post office - really, anywhere other than your home!
If you’re going to have to wear a mask when out and about, why settle for something that’s plain and boring and, dare I say it, unstylish? It doesn’t have to be this way! Indeed, fashion labels have been playing with masks long before the onset of the pandemic. Who can forget Billie Eilish and her Gucci mask at this year’s Grammy awards? Other fashion icons, such as Cristian Siriano, have been using their talents by converting his studio to full-scale mask production for frontline workers. Hotspots’ own, and my friend, Carlos Marrero took the extra t-shirt inventory he had sitting around in his home studio and brought them to his seamstress to make into masks, and voila the newest addition to the Marrero Collection line was born! If you’re interested in these beautiful masks, you can check out his pieces on Instagram.com/camarrero.

(Schitt’s Creek) this benefit show raised over $225,000 for CenterLink and their international coalition of community centers like South Florida’s very own “The Pride Center.” It was such a strong reminder of the important work LGBTQ+ community centers are doing, ensuring that everyone knows they are connected to a loving support system.

Care Resource Provides Telehealth Medical and Behavioral Health Services Remaining Committed to Quality and Accessible Care During COVID-19 In these challenging times, our emotional and physical health is compromised by the risk of COVID-19. In the face of this pandemic, Care Resource is even further committed to providing access to quality and comprehensive healthcare. We consistently strive to keep our patients' holistic health in balance. In order to serve our patients while protecting them from COVID-19 by adhering to the practice of social distancing, we have expanded our telehealth medical and behavioral health services.
Telehealth services are being covered by most commercial insurance carriers, including Medicaid and Medicare. Some insurance plans, such as Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, will cover telehealth services at no cost. Uninsured patients will be charged for the service on a sliding-scale basis. Those enrolled in the Ryan White program will also be able to bene it from telehealth services.
In order to initiate a telehealth session, patients must call the health center and speci ically request a telehealth appointment. Next, patients must download the Zoom application on a mobile device, or visit www.zoom.us in order to connect with a provider via video conference.
Care Resource's Behavioral Health Services Department will also offer all counseling services via telehealth. Our licensed behavioral health specialists are available to discuss the heightened levels of anxiety that our community is experiencing during this time and to offer coping mechanisms. Virtual support and social groups will replace in-person meetings. Emergency counseling services will be provided at all locations in Broward and Miami, but
clients are encouraged to call prior to going in for services. For those patients in our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, medical appointments will be scheduled as usual. If individuals are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, they should contact their provider prior to coming to their appointment in order for alternative arrangements to be made on a case-by-case basis. "We are pleased to offer telehealth services to our patients as a lexible way of having their healthcare needs met, whether it be questions about their symptoms, starting PrEP to prevent HIV, management of chronic illness, or other questions. We offer new and existing patients access to our telehealth visits, thereby reducing all patients' risk of exposure to COVID-19." – Dr. Steven Santiago, Chief Medical Of icer If you have questions, require assistance, or would like to schedule an appointment, contact us at (305) 576-1234 ext. 623 or 635.
