THE MONTH FOR PRIDE AND LOVE And just like that January 2017 is a memory and we embrace February – an eventful month on South Florida's LGBT social calendar capped by our first Pride event of the year on Feb. 26. This year's Pride Fort Lauderdale takes place for the first time on beautiful Fort Lauderdale Beach and is free to the public. In our “5 Questions” feature on page 96, Pride president Miik Martorell tells you what to expect at this year's event. Plan to be there! February is, of course, the month for love and lovers. To help you plan the perfect Valentine's Day, Hotspots' Scott Holland went shopping and returned with 37 great gift ideas from local LGBT-friendly businesses. Be sure to check out his recommendations starting on page 31. Two queens of comedy return to South Florida stages this month. Equal opportunity offender Lisa Lampanelli (oh, how we love her filthy mouth!) (interview, page 58) performs at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino this

Saturday, Feb. 4, while the most celebrated international “air hostess” Pam-Ann (the alter ego of Australian comedian Caroline Reid) will have you in stitches when she performs at Sunshine Cathedral on Feb. 11. Read about it on page 48. Scottish actor and singer Alan Cumming (The Good Wife on CBS) stars in a cabaret act, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs at the Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center on Feb 10. Read our exclusive interview with Alan by Mike Halterman starting on page 76. You'll find more than entertainment news in this issue. Hotspots' Ian Maloney visited Java Boys on Wilton Drive and raves about this fun and welcoming coffee shop and eatery that's been serving the LGBT community for 14 years. His review appears on page 90. And to balance the effect of the deliciously wicked cupcakes at Java Boys, fitness guru Tom Bonanti tells you how to sweat off the extra calories in his Hot Bodies feature on page 140. Enjoy!

ast Wednesday was the 14th annual Miss and Mr. Noche Latina Pageant, which was held again, this year at Bailo Nightclub. Congratulations go out to the fist alternates Yeya Calderone and Liam Deveraux. Your new court is: Amgie Ovahness and Tonny Morlaes, along with Olga Dantelly (Plus). It was a great night of pageantry! Late Thursday afternoon, the Pride Center held their monthly Founders Circle Mixer at The Needham Estate. Afterwards, we headed down to the Palace to celebrate the birthday and 20 year Drag Anniversary of T.P. Lords. Let’s just say the Palace was full with the Lords clan! On Friday, we went local and hit up Happy Hour at Tropics and then Fur Fridays at Hunters and then called it an early evening. On Saturday, we did a South Beach romp where we started at Club Boi (downstairs at Score) where the men and

women of color and their admirers party every Saturday night, and then headed upstairs to hear the sounds of DJ Phil Romano who kept the pretty boys dancing all night! When we were done dancing, we walked over to Twist to see some of their sexy bartenders and say hello to Joel and Peter. On Sunday, I started the day with a Matinee and saw Slow Burn Theater’s “Titanic, The Musical.” It was my first experience seeing a Slow Burn Theater Production and I was blown away. The staging, the talent and the singing from these actors were top notch…..I am a fan! (This weekend is the final shows of Titanic at the Amaturo Theater inside the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and I highly suggest seeing this production!) Sunday evening, we went to see one of our favorite monthly events, Lady Fancy’s Gospel Jubilee at Scandals Saloon.

A few months back I happened upon Grace and Frankie and I did a Netflix Binge and within 2 weeks watched both seasons. This show is hysterical and a must watch. After all, how can a show be bad that is starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. For those of you who haven’t seen it, the premise of the show is: 2 men who own a business together and have been married to their wives for decades have been having an affair with each other for over 20 years. In season 1 they come out to their wives and start a full time relationship together. Their wives, who are not to fond of each other, become roommates. After learning their ex-husbands plan to marry one another, lifelong rivals Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) have bonded in an

What is TRUVADA for PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis)? TRUVADA is a prescription medicine that can be used for PrEP to help reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 infection when used together with safer sex practices. This use is only for adults who are at high risk of getting HIV-1 through sex. This includes HIV-negative men who have sex with men and who are at high risk of getting infected with HIV-1 through sex, and male-female sex partners when one partner has HIV-1 infection and the other does not. Ask your healthcare provider if you have questions about how to prevent getting HIV-1. Always practice safer sex and use condoms to lower the chance of sexual contact with body fluids. Never reuse or share needles or other items that have body fluids on them.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about TRUVADA for PrEP?

Before taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 infection: u You must be HIV-negative. You must get tested to make sure that you do not already have HIV-1 infection. Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 unless you are confirmed to be HIV-negative. u Many HIV-1 tests can miss HIV-1 infection in a person who has recently become infected. If you have flu-like symptoms, you could have recently become infected with HIV-1. Tell your healthcare provider if you had a flu-like illness within the last month before starting TRUVADA for PrEP or at any time while taking TRUVADA for PrEP. Symptoms of new HIV-1 infection include tiredness, fever, joint or muscle aches, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, night sweats, and/or enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or groin. While taking TRUVADA for PrEP to reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 infection: u You must continue using safer sex practices. Just taking TRUVADA for PrEP may not keep you from getting HIV-1. u You must stay HIV-negative to keep taking TRUVADA for PrEP. u To further help reduce your risk of getting HIV-1: • Know your HIV-1 status and the HIV-1 status of your partners. • Get tested for HIV-1 at least every 3 months or when your healthcare provider tells you. • Get tested for other sexually transmitted infections. Other infections make it easier for HIV-1 to infect you. • Get information and support to help reduce risky sexual behavior. • Have fewer sex partners. • Do not miss any doses of TRUVADA. Missing doses may increase your risk of getting HIV-1 infection. • If you think you were exposed to HIV-1, tell your healthcare provider right away. u If you do become HIV-1 positive, you need more medicine than TRUVADA alone to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time.

TRUVADA can cause serious side effects:

u Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic acidosis),

which is a serious medical emergency. Symptoms of lactic acidosis include weakness or being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain, being short of breath or fast breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach-area pain, cold or blue hands and feet, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, and/or fast or abnormal heartbeats. u Serious liver problems. Your liver may become large and tender, and you may develop fat in your liver. Symptoms of liver problems include your skin or the white part of your eyes turns yellow, dark “tea-colored” urine, light-colored stools, loss of appetite for several days or longer, nausea, and/or stomach-area pain. u You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis or serious liver problems if you are female, very overweight (obese), or have been taking TRUVADA for a long time. In some cases, these serious conditions have led to death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of these conditions. u Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection. If you also have HBV and take TRUVADA, your hepatitis may become worse if you stop taking TRUVADA. Do not stop taking TRUVADA without first talking to your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider tells you to stop taking TRUVADA, they will need to watch you closely for several months to monitor your health. TRUVADA is not approved for the treatment of HBV.

Who should not take TRUVADA for PrEP?

Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you already have HIV-1 infection or if you do not know your HIV-1 status. If you are HIV-1 positive, you need to take other medicines with TRUVADA to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time. Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you also take lamivudine (Epivir-HBV) or adefovir (HEPSERA).

What are the other possible side effects of TRUVADA for PrEP? Serious side effects of TRUVADA may also include:

u Kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your healthcare

provider may do blood tests to check your kidneys before and during treatment with TRUVADA for PrEP. If you develop kidney problems, your healthcare provider may tell you to stop taking TRUVADA for PrEP. u Bone problems, including bone pain or bones getting soft or thin, may lead to fractures. Your healthcare provider may do tests to check your bones. u Changes in body fat, which can happen in people taking TRUVADA or medicines like TRUVADA. Common side effects in people taking TRUVADA for PrEP are stomach-area (abdomen) pain, headache, and decreased weight. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that bother you or do not go away.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking TRUVADA for PrEP? u All your health problems. Be sure to tell your healthcare

provider if you have or have had any kidney, bone, or liver problems, including hepatitis virus infection.

Please see Important Facts about TRUVADA for PrEP including important warnings on the following pages.

u If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not

known if TRUVADA can harm your unborn baby. If you become pregnant while taking TRUVADA for PrEP, talk to your healthcare provider to decide if you should keep taking TRUVADA for PrEP. Pregnancy Registry: A pregnancy registry collects information about your health and the health of your baby. There is a pregnancy registry for women who take medicines to prevent HIV-1 during pregnancy. For more information about the registry and how it works, talk to your healthcare provider. u If you are breastfeeding (nursing) or plan to breastfeed. Do not breastfeed. The medicines in TRUVADA can pass to your baby in breast milk. If you become HIV-1 positive, HIV-1 can be passed to the baby in breast milk.

u All the medicines you take, including prescription and over-

the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. TRUVADA may interact with other medicines. Keep a list of all your medicines and show it to your healthcare provider and pharmacist when you get a new medicine. u If you take certain other medicines with TRUVADA for PrEP, your healthcare provider may need to check you more often or change your dose. These medicines include ledipasvir with sofosbuvir (HARVONI). You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.FDA.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

Pam Ann is flying high By Scott Holland

International celebrity airhostess, Pam Ann (look below to ind out how the name came about), has evolved since irst jetting out of her hometown of Melbourne 20 years ago. Pam – the alter-ego of Australian comedianwriter-producer Caroline Reid – has developed a cult following, both here in the States and overseas, with her masterful portrayal of an International Flight Attendant. Pam Ann will be performing as part of the “Outlandish” series at the Sunshine Cathedral on Saturday, February 11 at 8pm. For those of you who have never seen a Pam Ann performance, get ready for turbulence caused by all the hysterical laughter. It was a pleasure to sit down with both Pam and Caroline for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

Q:How did you create Pam Ann? A: She was born out of a bottle of Absolut vodka. I had a James Bond themed birthday party back in 1996 (Sean Connery Bond) he only lew Pan American so I went dressed to my birthday as a Pan Am 1960's air hostess. Over the course of the evening everyone was getting more and more

48 | Hotspots.LGBT

drunk and started calling me Pan Am. The drunker my friends got the more it sounded like Pam Ann. Try to say Pan Am ten times in a row BOOM PAM ANN is born. Plus, my love of everything 60's design and airlines created what Pam Ann is today. Seriously I never thought I'd end up in comedy, I actually wanted to be a department store window dresser... before Pam Ann I actually used to sell mannequins at Mei & Picchi in Fitzroy Melbourne. Did you ever expect this level of success and how did it change your life? I never try to have expectations —period. I've always lived my life and career organically and followed my heart and passion. Success is a weird word; it's all in the mind what you perceive. I just try to be as authentic as possible and I don't think about success. I feel like I haven't even started yet and still have a long journey ahead. Pam Ann has gifted me the opportunity to live a carefree life and travel the world doing what I love. I couldn't be more grateful to her. I've met so many incredible friends along the way. I'm a high school dropout so for me Pam

Ann has been my university in life. I am now the Wikipedia on airlines, light attendants, cultures and global travel. My US green card to me is one of my greatest achievements, it's my college degree ... Pam Ann got me into the USA. You have worked with so many superstars, who are your favorites and why? Elton John and David Furnish are my favorite superstars and people in the world. Not only do they support and encourage new talent; they have raised so much awareness and money for HIV and AIDS. They are my heroes. I love them both so, so much... and damn, they know how to throw a great party.

You have traveled the world. Do you have any favorite venues and cities — and why? Miami is the love of my life right now, I can't begin to tell you how much I truly love Miami. I've lived in London 10yrs, NYC 8yrs ... Miami Beach is where it's at. I love the Cubans and the diverse community. I love how everything is a suggestion in Miami (even a red traf ic light) and when people say let's meet at 4pm they turn up at 7pm and the biggest stress of the day is whether to go to the beach or pool? I don't ever see myself leaving Miami. But if I had to choose my favorite city I'd have to say NYC. It's the best city in the world... I'm just in a Miami state of mind. My favorite venue to perform is a venue with an audience who have great energy and are there to have a good time. It's the people who make the venue great. My all-time favorite venue is The Theatre Royal in Glasgow as you can't beat a Glaswegian audience. If you can make it there you can make it anywhere... because the Glaswegians are some of the funniest people in the world. I got in a taxi in Glasgow once and the taxi driver asked me what I did, I told him I was a comedienne and he said DAMN you must be good if you can make a Glaswegian laugh. I took that as a great compliment.

Is there one gig that was your favorite and if so, why? One of my favorite shows was in Paris at the beautiful Alhambra theatre. I love Parisians and I love performing in Paris. My bar is set high to achieve and do the best I can for the Parisians. (Comedy is like a drug you’re always chasing the perfect show.) So this one particular night in Paris, I'd performed what I thought was an ok show in my mind. I went off stage and said to my tour manager, Esther (who's been with me for over 12 yrs and knows me so well), damn that wasn't good enough. I went to my dressing room took off my wig and threw off my Chanel pumps ... Esther then came running into my dressing room saying they won't leave ... I said who? She said the audience. They are stamping their feet and demanding you come

ly, ught edy, s u o Seri ver tho in com I ne end up anted I'd tually w I ac e a t to b artmen dep re sto dow win sser... dre

out for an encore. I was in shock, and I went out barefoot, wig in hand completely confused ...they all stood on their feet and shouted BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO. I cried and thanked them as they hugged me with their hearts. I'll never forget it, it was my Edith Piaf moment. I love and adore the French so much and even though I can't speak French, they feel it from my soul. That's why I love what I do, for these precious magical golden rare moments. Now that you live in the states, do you miss Australia and how often do you get back down under? I love Australia, my family and my best friends live there. I've had friends in Oz for over 30 years who are all part of my DNA. Pam Ann was born in Melbourne through the encouragement of so many darling friends of mine, without them Pam Ann might never have been. I miss everyone so much I wish we could pull Australia over and join it to Miami. IMAGINE Miami with kangaroos! I try and go back two times a year of course lying the Qantas, the lying kangaroo. I hear you are working on a movie deal. Tell us more about that? Yes, I am working on a Pam Ann movie. Its taking years but I want to get it right. The irst treatment I wrote my producer he said it read like a p@rno so I'm back at the drawing board. The producer I'm working with is also my best friend and mentor ... we ironically met in the First Class Lufthansa Lounge at JFK. It's all still a work in progress so I can't divulge much more than it's going to be f#$king ilthy funny if it ever gets made. Again, I'll leave that to the universe to decide. How do you keep your material fresh for the audience and for yourself as an artist? I never do the same show ever. I tailor my shows to what country I'm in and talk about their national airline and what is currently happening in their world that we all can relate to. I improvise the irst hour or so of my show and I work on the ly so to speak. I don't write, I just tell my stories though my real life experiences and observations (I have an incredible Wikipedia library in my head). I have brought back much more audience participation to my shows once again, which I love. I stopped doing it for a while ...long story all I'll say it involved glitter and a homophobic couple. But

50 | Hotspots.LGBT

rest assured I'm back in full swing so watch out Pam Ann Frequent Flyers. Describe Pam Ann is 3 words? Honest, funny and 'plane' ilthy. What should the South Florida audiences expect from this tour? Expect your lives to be hijacked with laughing gas. Do you have a warning for the virgins of your show? Turn your f*cking phones o. What does the future hold for Pam Ann and for Caroline? Who knows?...If the audiences still come to see Pam Ann she will continue to perform... as for me I look forward to my Golden Girl days hanging out poolside in pastel colors with my gays in Florida, cocktail in hand. ....Maybe we can make this gig a monthly gig at the Sunshine Cathedral ... and rename it 'Pam Ann's Sunshine Cathedral'...where it's sunny every day. AMEN, 3 gospel claps and a high kick!!! Tickets to see PamAnn at the Sunshine Cathedral are $30, and are available at OutlandishFL.com

ock LHolivlande R d r a H t a k By Scott is bac Risqué comedian and equal opportunity offender Lisa Lampanelli returns to Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 8 pm. Heralded as "more than a standup — a standout,” by comedy legend Jim Carrey, Lampanelli has won accolades from The King of All Media, Howard Stern, who called her "a true original and a brilliant comedy mind who'll steal the show every time." Known for saying things that most people are afraid to think, Lampanelli is wildly popular at theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Lampanelli is a regular on late night television, and a frequent guest and guest host on Howard Stern's Sirius XM satellite radio shows. I have seen Lisa live a few times and she is always so funny she literally has me in tears, so it was a pleasure to sit down with the queen of mean for this exclusive Hotspots interview. Q: Were you a comedian/storyteller as a kid? A: I think I was just the one in the family who would make my mom laugh…now that I have gotten enough therapy I realize it was my place

58 | Hotspots.LGBT

in the family to lighten the tension. When I hit 30, I decided I was going to try it. What was your irst professional gig? It was the most horrendous sad terrible gift ever. The truth is you never learn from good gigs, but you do from bad ones. My brother is a sports editor, and got me a gig. I had been doing comedy for maybe a month… and I needed to have 20 minutes of material….. out of ignorance I took the show for a sports writer's convention in Connecticut. I can't even look at the tape now as it was horrendous. I learned from that experience that I could quit anytime I want…but I decided I was getting up the next day. I was going to keep trying to do comedy. This gig taught me to keep going. When did you know you wanted to be a stand-up comedian for a living? The night I did my irst open mic. From the moment I left the stage, I said to myself, I am a comedian forever. I called in sick the next day to my day job and that was it.

I know this was a long time ago, but I think you became famous from the Friars club roast of Chevy Chase. Although you have done many roasts since then and have even been the roast master, can you take us back and let us know how you felt to roast Chevy Chase? Yeah, because everyone was bombing that night. 16 roasters and all pretty bad. I got up 10th and I thought to myself…this is my shot, and I took it. I knew if I didn't kill I wouldn't be on TV again. All the stars aligned, and I ended up doing so well they moved me up to 3rd in the broadcast. You should have won Celebrity Apprentice, there I said it, but how exciting was it to do the show and to raise more than $100,000 for Gay Men's Health Crisis? My whole goal was to earn that money for the charity and stay on until the stupid people got ired. I needed to make it further then Lou Ferrigno or else I would have killed myself…his ears are stupider then the rest of his body. It was horrible, and the hardest thing I ever did in my life. 24 hours a day six days a week with douche bags you hate. Believe it or not the Trumps were the high point of the whole thing. You have now had ive stand-up specials. Are they still exciting to ilm? It doesn't even require much sweat anymore. In the past I sweated every detail out. It does get easier over the years. Now I am at the point where they don't edit things out, so it makes it so much easier. It feels like another night of standup. You are now famous for losing 100 pounds? How hard was that and how has your life changed since losing the weight? It was very hard to keep it off, despite the surgery. I work on it every single day. I do workshops to help. I am learning you can't eat your emotions, and instead need to feel them. Now that you are single again, has your taste changed? What are you looking for in a man?

I don't have any urge to date at all because I realized I have to work on myself irst. Speaking of weight loss, you have written and star in your own stage show “Stuffed.” How did this come about and how is it different then stand up? It's a play with four actors, so it’s dialogue instead of monologue. It was extended after it’s original run and hopefully it's coming back to NYC, probably in 2017. It's also wild working with other actors as you are not alone on stage and you are not carrying the ball yourself. I think I will dedicate six months to stand up and six months to the play. The whole play is about helping people, and talking to the people after the play. What should the South Florida audiences expect from your stand up this year? Tap dancing…probably mime….and I am going to pull an end table out of your a$$hole. What's ahead for Lisa? To just keep working on myself, and I want to do three more plays with the same four women on different subjects. They will be about issues I want to address and write about. I also want to be more myself every day and to get people to understand I care about them. If you don't love everybody you can't make fun of everybody. Is there anything else you want to say? Please ask all the corn holders and taco bumpers at the Home Depot to come out. Tickets to see Lisa, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 8 pm, range from $40 to $60. All seats are reserved and available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at myhrl.com, or at ticketmaster.com or Charge By Phone: 1-800-745-3000. Doors open at 7pm.

Adrianne Arsht Center Presents

"Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs" Friday, February 10th at 8pm Hotspots Exclusive — by Mike Halterman Scottish actor and singer Alan Cumming has been a household name in the United States for over 20 years. First appearing on screens stateside in the ilm Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, he went on to gain millions of fans through his appearances on the stage (in Shakespeare plays as well as the musical Cabaret), on the silver screen (the X-Men franchise) and on the small screen, most recently wrapping up a sevenyear commitment as a featured cast member on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. Cumming's cabaret act, called "Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs" will take over the Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center on Friday, February 10 at 8pm. He will be accompanied on the piano by show director and Emmy Award winner Lance Horne as well as by Eleanor Norton on the cello. Tickets start at $49 and can be bought online by going to arshtcenter.org.

It was a big honor to speak with Alan Cumming about his cabaret show and his successful career in show business in this exclusive Hotspots interview.

Q:Welcome to Florida! What are some of the things you like most about visiting the Sunshine State? A:I really like that it feels like I'm going back in time to another era. Everything has a slower pace, I love the Art Deco architecture...when I visit, it always feels like I am entering a dierent reality.

The night after you perform in Miami, you will be performing at the Kravis Center's 25th anniversary celebration. How excited are you to be involved, and to perform alongside one of Broadway's legends, your friend Patti LuPone? I love Patti. I think she's hilarious. I think it's

a big honor to be performing with her and all my friends who are coming, like Darren [Criss]. Michael Feinstein is the one who brought all of us down and I'm sure it's going to be a great night, helping the Kravis Center celebrate their milestone. I'm not even sure what I'm going to be doing yet, but it's fun to think about it and plan it all out because a special night calls for a special performance.

You've actually performed "Ladies Who Lunch" from Company, which Patti LuPone has also sung, in your act that's coming to Miami. How did you go about selecting the songs for your show? How does each one "speak to you"? They're all songs that I emotionally connect to. They're either songs I've always wanted to perform and couldn't because I was pursuing other roles, or ones I grew to love over the years. I don't think I have a beautiful singing voice, I don't think people necessarily see me to hear me sing...I think they want me to act. I can't just sing...I have to feel it, I have to act it out. What else can audiences expect from this performance? If people haven't seen me in concert before, I think they are going to be in for a shock. People aren't going to be prepared to feel so many emotions. They're going to be moved, they're going to laugh and cry. It's de initely an evening of surprises.

Which do you ind most rewarding: singing or acting? I don't see a dierence. In this show, there's comedy, there's singing, and there's de initely acting. I do ind this show rewarding because the audience can connect with me directly, there is no veil of a character there, as much as I say it's "acting." It's acting the emotion. It's "acting as myself."

A reader question: "Cabaret just inished a run here in South Florida. What drew you back in to this musical as you returned to the role of Master of Ceremonies once more?" It was a combination of things, but I felt that we're in a dierent generation now. Sixteen years had passed, and it's even more timely now than two years ago when I returned to

Cabaret. It is so important to heed the messages in the show, to embrace dierences and also to be vigilant in the face of rising extremism. To be honest with you, I wish I was doing Cabaret on Broadway right now. The messages of the musical are so important, and they need to continue being said.

Let me end with one more reader question: "I loved your performance in The Good Wife. Are there any plans for you to return to a weekly television series?" As a matter of fact, there are. There's a long way to go, but if all goes well, I might be back on telly on CBS in the fall. The script is written by the author James Patterson, and the show is about a Yale professor of behavioral studies who used to be a CIA operative, and he gets involved in an NYPD case, working with a female police of icer. He's also a gay man, and I like that the character's gayness is the fourth or ifth most interesting thing about him. There are so many levels of drama and social interactions that will make it really interesting. I am hoping for the best! For more information about Alan Cumming, visit alancumming.com. They call their place a “second living room” allowing customers (most of whom they know by name) a place to surf the web, watch old movies and, of course, enjoy a great cup of java and indulge in some delicious desserts. I recently had a chance to have lunch at Java Boys with Troy, my coworker and we were both pleasantly

surprised by the wide variety of sandwiches and baked goods that are offered, we didn't know it wasn't just coffee. After the sudden shuttering of Humpy's Pizza, just a few doors down, the owners of Java Boys decided to keep Humpy's famous cupcakes alive, so they are now working with baker Brad Schlichting, who bakes up fresh selections six days a week. Stop in to try one, trust me, they are worth the extra calories no matter what your personal trainer says! All of the coffee at Java Boys is shipped in every five days and is ground on the premises to ensure that you aren't going to find it fresher anywhere else in Island City. All of the baked goods besides the cupcakes and empanadas (more on them in a moment) are supplied by a local upscale bakery who provides the finest quality products. (Think delicious apple pie and berry muffins that are the size of your face!) Since it was lunch time, I skipped a hot coffee and went for the Peanut Butter Cup Frappe ($4.40) while Troy had the Mango Smoothie ($3.70). The peanut butter cup frappe was to die for, but I'm glad I only ordered a small one because I would have gladly offered a vein to mainline it directly into my body. The mango smoothie was sweet and delicious. Besides mango, they offer several other varieties of fruit that you can mix into your smoothie. You can even add protein if you would like. To start off, Troy and I

shared a pair of fresh baked, handmade empanadas. ($2.50 each) We had one chicken and one beef, but they also have other selections like spinach and cheese. The empanadas, as I mentioned above, are handmade by an 80 year old Argentinian man who has been supplying them to Java Boys for the past six years. They are made with a light and flaky puff pastry dough and are baked fresh on the premises to prevent them from drying out and to preserve their high quality. For lunch, Troy decided on the chicken and ham panini ($8.95) and I had tuna salad on an everything bagel ($7.95). Both sandwiches were served with a choice of one side. They offer Italian

pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, or chips. I had potato salad and Troy tried the pasta salad and both were very tasty. The panini was made with chicken breast, ham, and mozzarella cheese with honey Dijon mustard and served on a fresh baked ciabatta roll. My bagel was also great, and the tuna salad

really hit the spot. We couldn't leave without trying a cupcake. ($3) They are truly sinful. Baker Brad Schlichting uses a takeoff of his own mother's cupcake recipe and he has been baking since he was a kid. He really puts his heart and soul into the cupcakes and you can tell by the way they

taste. We liked them so much, we decided to taste two, the Peanut Butter Frosted and the Cookies and Cream.

uJava Boys is open every day. Sunday through Thursday 7am-11pm and they stay open till midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. Drop in a try a cup of java and tell them Hotspots sent you.

INTERVIEW 5 Questions

MIIK MARTORELL

PRIDE FORT LAUDERDALE BOARD PRESIDENT

By Ian Maloney

Pride Fort Lauderdale promises a beach festival to remember!

1

Q: TELL OUR READERS A BIT OF

HISTORY OF PRIDE FORT LAUDERDALE A: Pride Fort Lauderdale started in 1977; it actually started out as a protest of Anita Bryant. The community got together in

96 | Hotspots.LGBT

Dade and Broward Counties and basically protested against the fact that she was fighting against gay rights. The organization ended up coming together every year for several years as a Pride festival. It started as a march

...we moved the date to the peak of season, hoping to attract a lot of people from around the country. We want to make this a pride that is a destination Pride, not just a local one.

we have an all-new board. Fresh ideas, fresh new people, most of whom have never done this before, but they want to do something good for the community. With that, our all-volunteer group put together an event that will take place, for the first time, on Fort Lauderdale beach. It’s no longer in the park. Second, the event will be completely free this year, there will be no charge. Finally, we moved the date to the peak of season, hoping to attract a lot of people from around the country. We want to make this a Pride that is a destination Pride, not just a local one.

3

Q: WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT IF THEY ATTEND THIS YEAR?

A: We have added a history of Pride display

put together by the Stonewall Museum. There is an area for seniors which SAGE is working with us on. South Florida Family Pride is putting together an area for families, bringing their family as well. A really big addition will be our sports area, dedicated to different sports teams in the community to show people there is so much more to our lifestyle than just nightlife and partying. We will have free shuttle service this year from Wilton Manors. We have also partnered with the Water Taxi and we will also offer free

parking at the Galleria on Sunrise Blvd and take the water taxi over.

4

Q: WHO IS PERFORMING? A: At the moment, we have Latrice

Royale, who will come back to perform. We also have several local DJ’s lined up- Wendy Hunt, AJ Ready, and Joe Gauthreaux who is an internationally known circuit DJ. In addition, we have Grammy Award winning country music singer Ty Herndon who recently came out as gay. We have two other people we are working on, but haven’t signed contracts yet, but there are a few surprises left that we are looking forward to unveiling in the upcoming weeks.

5

Q: How can people get involved with Pride Fort Lauderdale?

A: There are a bunch of ways. If they just want to come and enjoy the event that’s awesome, we definitely want that, but if you want to be a part of it and help us put this on, it will be a very meaningful year this year. We really need volunteers right now. If any of your readers are interested in volunteering they can visit our website at PrideFortLauderdale.org. They can fill out the form there and we will contact them. The Pride Fort Lauderdale website has been recently updated with new information so check them out there at PrideFortLauderdale.org and stay tuned for more info as the date gets closer.

q

2

Q: WHAT IS NEW FOR THIS YEAR? A: There are so many big changes. For one,

and would alternate between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. We eventually found our home in Fort Lauderdale. This year is the 40th year, a really important commemoration of all of the good and bad things that have happened to our community over those years.

By Billy Masters

How did she become top intern? Or, in her case, bottom intern — Wendy Williams asks one of many questions she hopes will be answered in the new season of "American Crime Story", which will center on Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. Of course, Producer Ryan Murphy knows a thing or two about bottoms. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

It came. It went. And we're all still here. I found the choice of the first dance curious. "And now, the end is near..." Seems like even our president is counting down the moments. 1,458 days left. While I can't say I was glued to my TV, I enjoyed seeing the fashions. Most people looked good - except poor Kellyanne Conway, who seemed to be channeling a deranged nutcracker. Take heed, America. This is what happens when you have no gay friends. So clearly our new first lady must have a gaggle of gays around her - I thought she looked great. But I do have one nagging question - why is Ivanka suddenly whispering? For some reason,

106 | Hotspots.LGBT

every time she's interviewed, it seems as if she's worried her phone is being tapped. Perhaps she's right. The most ludicrous story going around was that Trump might dance with Caitlyn Jenner at one of the Inauguration Balls. This rumor had no credence, if for no reason than Jenner was not invited by Trump. She attended as a guest of the American United Fund, which describes itself as "dedicated to advancing the cause of freedom for LGBT Americans by making the conservative case that freedom truly means freedom for everyone." Well that clears up...actually nothing. Prior to

the Inauguration, Caitlyn's publicist said, "The real question is if they danced, who would lead?" If that's really the question, Cait better get herself a new publicist (although I like the one she has). For the pre-inauguration dinner, Caitlyn wore a black dress with what is being called a plunging neckline. But that's really not accurate. It was more like plungeous interruptus. In mid-plunge, a button closed the gap. Then the plunge continued below the button. I guess the button was there to give you a chance to think, "Do I really want to take this plunge?" My answer was decidedly no. The bottom

Tyler Posey

could end up in a wheelchair. But at least he'd look good! Turns out that Tom and Lance's relationship hasn't always been idyllic. Tom confessed that at some point they were on a seven-month break due to work commitments. During that time, Daley says he had an "online tryst" with another guy. "It's not like I actually met up with anyone. I'm 22 years old, and if you talk to someone through social media it is what it is. It was nothing more than that. We never physically met." Perhaps, but sources say he regularly begged the 23year-old Liverpool lad to fly to London during their 11month online relationship. Wait - was it 7 months or 11

Cody Christian

of the dress was covered in fringe - please, God, let that have been fringe. Without question, she was the bestlooking transgender former Olympian at the dinner. Picture it - Googie Gomez from "The Ritz" at 75. That was why I initially watched Netflix's "One Day at a Time". Rita Moreno dips into her Googie character and creates an indelible impression as the crazy Cuban grandmother. Since I grew up on Norman Lear shows, I was curious as to how he would fare working in today's TV landscape. While it took a few episodes for everything to gel, I'm pleased to say it works beautifully. It's that classic sitcom melding of laughs and social relevance, and yet it doesn't seem dated. I love it. Diver Tom Daley recently confessed that he would consider plastic surgery in the future. "Ask me in ten years." So let's take a page from Hidden Figures and do some math. The Olympian is currently 22. So in 10 years he'll be 32 - and I figured that out without a calculator! So he'll consider plastic surgery at 32. But even that might be too late for Tom. "I'd like to stop myself growing older at 27. By 27 you're old enough to be taken seriously because you have some life experience and not too old to no longer have fun." Kinda makes you wonder what he thinks of his fianceĚ , Dustin Lance Black, who is 42. Chronological age is actually the least of Daley's problems. Due to numerous divingrelated injuries, one of his discs "is literally degenerating". A doctor told him that if he keeps up this punishing sport, he

months? What we do know is that Tom sent the guy explicit photos and videos. Finally he and Lance have something in common! You can see a tease of Tom on my very own website. I'm not doing a formal "Ask Billy" question because too many of you have been writing in about this next story. First we got a video of "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Posey pleasuring himself. While I was researching that story, I was sent a video of Posey's costar Ryan Kelly doing the same thing. As I sat down to write this item, Cody Christian's penis appeared in my inbox. This begs the question, is making a j-off video a prerequisite for appearing on "Teen Wolf"? I'm not complaining. At least they're all hot, as you can see on my website. When we're presenting a pack of penii, it's definitely time to end yet another column. Believe it or not, you can see even more than videos of teen wolf penises on BillyMasters.com - the site that is apparently my purpose. If nothing else, this should prove how seriously I take your questions. So keep sending them along to Billy@BillyMasters.com and I promise to get back to you before Tom Daley plunges into Caitlyn's neckline! Until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible.

If you have a question, send it to Billy@BillyMasters.com and I promise to get back to you before Seacrest offers himself up as a CPR dummy at his local firehouse! So, until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible. Hotspots.LGBT | 107

GENRE CULTURIZATE Con Teddy y Adora

Artista y disidente Cubano,

Quiere verla transformada y abierta.

It is now. It is Now.

Adora: Did you see the Cuban dissident artist 'El Sexto' was released from jail again? He is very brave to stand up to the Cuban Government… and he´s very handsome too. Teddy Behr: I saw that. According to an interview on his Facebook page, it's the 3rd

118 | Hotspots.LGBT

time he went to jail. He was imprisoned the first time for his piece likening live pigs to Fidel and Raul Castro, and then for demonstrating with the Ladies in White when President Obama was coming to Havana to renew ties between the two countries. Adora: He was arrested in his mother´s house last November before he could leave for Miami where he was supposed to exhibit during Art Basel Week. No reason was given for his arrest. Teddy Behr: I saw he exhibits at a gallery in London and there´s a picture of some of the paintings; He´s really a graffiti artist and the paintings show that clearly. I´d love to see examples of the graffiti work in Havana: the location of graffiti art and how it relates to its social and architectural surroundings is really important to understanding it.And, it´s public; for everybody in the neighborhood and all the people who go by to see it. Adora: El Combinado del Este Prison is the scariest prison in Cuba; it's for hardened criminals. Especially after having done time there, it´s very touching to hear about his hopes for his daughter, and his mother in the Facebook interview. He loves Cuba and doesn't want to leave; but he wants to see it transformed and open.

Teddy Behr: I guess El Sexto kind of embarrassed The Castro brothers and they were afraid of letting him go to Miami for an international art fair; And I guess the fact that he got thrown in jail had to be kind of embarrassing to the US President. I mean, what Freedom? What Free Speech? Adora: Um Hmmmm.… it seems kind of funny for us to compare politicians to pigs but people here have actually been even more critical of our leaders and they haven´t wound up in jail for it so far. Teddy Behr: Another Havana artist, Tania Bruguera spent eight months in jail for her dissident public performances, but now she´s been allowed to travel. Hopefully things will open up for El Sexto too. I'd love to see him commissioned to do something here in Miami: Wynwood, Little River, Downtown, Calle Ocho; that would be cool! Adora: I think a lot of people in Miami would like that. Beyond that, it's great to see art used to get people to think about what is going on, maybe to challenge accepted ideas. El Sexto's work uses humor and the painted pieces have a lot of dynamic power. As he writes in one of his Pieces on the Facebook Page: “IT IS NOW, IT IS NOW, IT IS NOW”.

NEED WOOD

By Woody Miller

BLEACH BOTTOM H

ey Woody! I’m an a$$-freak. Have you heard of ‘anal bleaching?’ I want to get it done, but where? It’s not the kind of thing salons advertise. Also, is it possible to DIY it? — Throbbing for Love

y Dear Throbbing: You’re out of luck. There are only two salons I know of that do it—one in Australia and one in Los Angeles called Pink Cheeks (http:// www.pinkcheeks.com/analbleach.html), which has a sign hanging on the wall that says, “NO WHINING.” Funny, I have the same sign hanging over my bed. Here’s how the backdoor beauty regimen works: You clear the area of any hair, then apply bleaching creams with the active ingredients used in photo processing and rubber manufacturing. Ahh, smearing toxic chemicals on my a$$—now there’s a procedure I don’t get nearly enough of. Anyway, you then use the cream each night until you achieve the desired lightness. Professional butt-bleachers claim you’ll see results in one to two weeks. I’m strongly opposed to anal bleaching.

First, who’s going to know? How many people are going to look at your starfish with enough light to tell the difference? Are you expecting guys to say, “You know, there’s something different about you but I can’t put my finger on it?” Second, and more importantly, medical experts believe the active ingredients in anal bleach creams are toxic. Basically, you’ll be rubbing flammable chemicals on your butt. I’m all for having 5-alarm sex but do you really want flames shooting out of your ass like a rocket on take-off? If you’re going to pursue a perfect shade of a$$ no matter what I say, then at least look for creams that don’t have Hydroquinone or Mercury. There’s only one bleaching cream with non-toxic, natural ingredients. And no, I’m not going to tell you what it is because I don’t want you’re a$$ on my hands.

sacrifice, dedication and lots of sweat is a wonderful thing to behold and possess! Why not start today and design a winning strategy to get and stay fit. Consider three factors as you ponder a program: schedule flexibility, workout simplification, and diversification. Schedule flexibility is crucial in these times of unplanned events, hectic traffic and even more chaotic work schedules. A sharp guy begins the day with a plan so that he can accomplish everything that is important. Nothing is more crucial than your workout, so schedule a time and try to stick with it. Join a gym that is conveniently located between work and home. Most gyms have extended hours, so if you get derailed don't despair. Your body responds to exercise whether it's 7AM or 7 PM. Workout simplification and diversification allow you to train regardless of what you had planned and where you had planned it. If you were set to hit the weight room at 6 PM, but had to work late, then pumpup at home. A few dumbbells are inexpensive, but they can make a difference on days you don't get to the gym. Do some push-ups, crunches and stretches during breaks at work. Bike around your neighborhood on weekends. Take a swim in that pool you pay someone big bucks to maintain for you all year long. Do something, anything. Just put those muscles in motion!

A beautiful, natural body at every age obtained through sacrifice, dedication and lots of sweat is a wonderful thing to behold and possess!

Of all the investments you'll make, a commitment to regular exercise will reap the greatest benefits. Life is too short to miss out on being all that you can be. For more inspiration on how to get the most out of your workouts, contact Tom at trainertomb@aol.com!
