The best chatter on social media this week

“You cannot buy, no matter how much money you have, you can’t buy class. President Obama, whatever you think of his politics, is a very classy man. He’s a smart man. He’s one of the kindest people you want to meet, he and his wife are. I’m not talking about politics – having met them and knowing them, you can’t teach that. I think that’s something the president is jealous about. He doesn’t have those qualities.”

“We are pressing ahead with inclusive relationship and sex education in in English schools, making sure that LGBT issues are taught well. We’re determined to eradicate homophobic and transphobic bullying.”

THERESA MAY, prime minister of the United Kingdom, at that country’s gay Pink News Awards, the first serving prime minister to attend the annual event.

DON LEMON, openly gay host of CNN Tonight, referring to President Donald Trump’s behavior.

“Well…I’m in Momma Mia 2.”

CHER, announcing on Twitter that she has joined the cast of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which will be released in July 2018. Cher’s biomusical, meanwhile, will make its debut in Chicago in 2018 prior to hitting Broadway.

“It’s very scary for me to see where the nation as a whole is going. Every day we wake up and, whether it’s women’s rights or LGBTQ rights, we are seeing them either be threatened or stripped away. If we don’t keep the door open and elect people that are like-minded individuals, we can see just how fragile these rights are…”

Openly gay candidate ERIC ROLLINGS, who is running for the Orange County (Orlando) Commissioner seat in District 3.

“There are people who wish to take immediate advantage of this law when it comes into force and I wish them the best for the future.” JAMES DENT, an elected official for the tiny island of Alderney (population of 2000) where same-sex marriage was just legalized.

WORKING OUT: It Doesn't Have To Be A Pain! ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

by Tom Bonanti

H

ave you ever experienced the aggravation of tendonitis or the burn of a strained muscle? It's inevitable that at some point the stress on your body from working out will cause at least a little pain and discomfort. Physical pain is your body's way of telling you that something's wrong. When a movement or exercise hurts, stop it immediately, breathe deeply, get some water, and assess the situation before continuing your workout.

Working out is supposed to improve your quality of life. A certain amount of muscle soreness can be expected when you begin a 94 | Hotspots.LGBT

new program or step up a routine with new exercises. This soreness known as Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS), usually follows the workout and lasts a day or two. If pain persists and grows worse, don't be too brave to consult a physician. Whenever you're working out and a sudden, shooting pain immediately follows a movement or muscle contraction, you must stop at once or you may risk serious injury. Be aware of your body as it moves and how much you can realistically push yourself.

If you're already suffering with a preexisting condition, or if you think you might have one, check with your physician before

beginning a program or continuing with your regular routine. Here I'm talking about things like chronic neck pain, shoulder impingement or rotator cuff issues, chronic low back pain and chondromalacia (wearing of the patella or knee cap). Once you're diagnosed and treated for one of these ailments, only with your physician's approval should you return to working out. Most doctors will tell you that with the correct progressive exercise program, many of the above conditions can be greatly improved or even eliminated! The key is to exercise safely and effectively so that you never injure yourself in the first place.

and carefully. Keep a journal of the weight you lift. 4. Always watch your form carefully as you perform each exercise. Get a good contraction of the muscle during the positive or concentric part of the motion and slow down on the negative or eccentric phase of the repetition.

Here are a few steps you can take to keep strong and pain free for years to come.

1. Don't forget the importance of a 5-10 minute warm-up. A brief walk to the gym or a few minutes on a recumbent bike can rev-up your metabolism and warm-up joints and muscles preventing injuries. 2. Stretch lightly before lifting weights. Save more intensive stretching for between sets or after your overall workout. 3. Weight training should be progressive. Begin with a light warm-up set and then gradually challenge your muscles with the next few sets as you add weight gradually

Hmmm...

How a donut put $37,500 in Orlando man’s pocket The City of Orlando just paid $37,500 to a man after police officers wrongly arrested him for what they thought was crystal meth — but what was, in fact, simply glaze from a donut. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Daniel Rushing sued the city after he was arrested for drugs and hauled off to jail. Tests later confirmed the “evidence” was donut glaze. You’d think the cops would know more about donuts?

Gordon Thomas, the handsome Canadian actor who played Adam Carrington in the original Dynasty television series in the 1980s (and a heartthrob to so many gay men at the time!) has finally admitted he is a homosexual. Thomas, now 72, told The Daily Beast he dealt with a lot of homophobia and feared coming out at the time. In the hit series, Adam Carrington’s brother, Steven (played by actor Al Corey), was gay — one of the earliest gay main characters on prime time television, although his character was married to a female at one point. “It was not until I was nearly 30 years that it [homosexuality] stopped being classified as a mental illness in the U.S. So you’re dealing with that. And the shame, the breathtaking lack of self-esteem, has only just begun to seep out of my soul,” Thomas said.

OK, comic book lessons start now: The Ray is a part of DC's Justice League, and he's a man who got exposed to a genetic light bomb (not important to know what that is because we're shaky on the concept ourselves) and now has lightbased superpowers, which allows him to fight criminals. Also, he's gay. Now you're caught up. Tovey will keep on being The Ray after this special, as well, because he's also voicing the character for CW Seed's upcoming animated series, "Freedom Fighters: The Ray". There's going to be so much gay Ray you won't know what to do

with all of it. Tune in November 27 and 28 for a crash course in believing that a gay superhero can blind bad dudes with the power of justice. Something like that.

Moonlight writer McCraney takes on Disney's "Cyrano" Tarell Alvin McCraney, the Academy Award winning cowriter of "Moonlight", has a suitably high-profile project in the works, this time with Walt Disney Pictures. "Cyrano The Moor" is the

title, and it's a musical mashup of Shakespeare's tragedy "Othello" and Edmond Rostand's comedy "Cyrano de Bergerac". The live-action musical will star David Oyelowo ("Selma") as Cyrano – good idea, as he's already played Othello to great acclaim on the stage – and be set in 19th-century England. And that's as far as the information goes at this point. No other co-stars yet, no director, no word on who's creating the music. But this one definitely has our

Anna Paquin

interest and we're excited to see how McCraney will synthesize two seemingly opposing literary forces, all while putting a queer spin on the material.

Holliday Grainger

There are only so many times you can watch "Carol", you know? Yes, we understand that it's perfect in pretty much every way, what with the impeccable 1950s period detail, Cate Blanchett's gorgeous outfits, Cate Blanchett's dom attitude, Cate Blanchett's… well, literally her everything. "And" it has a happy ending. So it's as if the moviemaking goddesses heard our yearning for more of that and decided it was time for another lesbian romance set in the 1950s. Which brings us to "Tell It To The Bees". Based on Fiona Shaw's 2009 novel, the currently-inproduction drama stars Academy Award winner Anna Paquin as a doctor in a rural British village who falls in love with a young woman played by Holliday Grainger ("Tulip Fever"). Grainger's hetero romance has recently hit the rocks and the only cure is some lady doctoring, and that more than suits our

George Michael

Anna Paquin is the "Bees" knees

requirements. Currently shooting in Scotland with director Annabel Jankel, it'll probably hit screens in 2018, even though we're ready for it now.

"George Michael: Freedom" Coming soon to Showtime In between Halloween parties later this month, be sure to sit down and have a moment of remembrance for the late great George Michael, when Showtime airs the documentary, "George Michael: Freedom". Co-directed by Michael and David Austin before the singer's death, it's a look into the making of his legendary album, "Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1". It also follows the British High Court battle Michael had with his record label and

the death of Michael's partner, Anselmo Feleppa. The list of interviewees is lengthy for this one, understandably, and includes “Freedom 90” models Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista, as well as fellow musicians Elton John, Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, Liam Gallagher, Mary J. Blige and Tony Bennett. We're glad this one was in Michael's hands and will be about significant events from his own perspective, rather than someone else's cash-in, tell-all, postmortem. The film premieres October 21.

Romeo San Vicente's not planning on going solo. Hotspots.LGBT | 105

Don’t you think he’s a little delusional when he describes himself as “bisexual?” At best, it’s wishful thinking and at worst it‘s internal homophobia. I’m getting sick of my friend claiming he’s bisexual when he only goes to gay bars. How do I get him to admit he’s gay? —Tired of Hearing It

y Dear Tired: Most people think we fall into three categories: Gay, Straight or Lying. In all probability your friend is the third of the three. Research backs me up on this. Several studies have shown that male bisexuality, if it exists at all, is VERY rare. In the latest research, scientists put penis sensors on gay, straight and bisexual men and gauged the differences in their arousal when they watched straight porn versus gay porn. Guess what happened? The gay guys were aroused by gay porn but not straight porn. The hetero guys were aroused by straight porn but not gay porn. The guys who self-identified as “bisexual?” They were EXCLUSIVELY aroused by one or the other, usually by gay porn. This latest study is the largest of several reports confirming the same results. Research on sexual orientation has almost always been based on self-reporting. That’s why the aver-

age penis size in Kinsey’s studies is about six inches while the latest studies show it’s closer to five. Let’s face it, men lie. They lie about their penis size and they lie about who they like to screw. Now before I get hate mail from the three genuinely bisexual men in America, I don’t think having sex with women makes you bisexual anymore than a straight guy having sex with another man makes him gay. Of course gay men can f*ck a woman. All we have to do is think about her brother. And of course straight men can get it up for a gay man. All they have to do is think about his sister. I remember watching a porn video being shot where these two hot guys were getting f*cked so hard the cameraman was bouncing on the floor. The director says to me, “You know the guys getting f*cked are straight, right?” I scoffed. Come on, I thought, their d*cks were hard and they were getting pounded into ground beef. The director takes my arm, moves me across the room and points to the videos the guys were watching as they were getting screwed. It was straight porn! So, no, just because you can get it up for a wide variety of species doesn’t make you bisexual. It makes you a dildo. For me, the true “definition” of an orientation isn’t who you shag but who you’re in love with. You can fake shagging; you can’t fake the racing pulse, the obsessive thinking and the overwhelming desire to connect emotionally, physically, romantically and spiritually with another man. So if you want your friend to stop talking about bisexuality, then buy a penis sensor and show him different kinds of porn. His mind may be in denial but his body ain’t.
