DIXIE LONGATE Comes to the Sunshine Cathedral with “No Instructions”

D

ixie Longate, a character created by actor Kris Andersson, has appeared in popular engagements of the “Dixie's Tupperware Party” all over the country. The not your grandma's Tupperware experience is filled with naughtiness and a whole bunch of laughter, and fun that mixes an interactive sales-pitch with genuine Tupperware sales.

10 | Hotspots.LGBT

After many years of focusing on the Tupperware party shows, Dixie introduced a new show, "Never Wear a Tube Top While Riding a Mechanical Bull and 16 other things I learned while I was drinking last Thursday" in 2014 to rave reviews. Now she has a new show “No Instructions” that will be premiering as part of the Outlandish Comedy Series at the Sunshine Cathedral on Saturday, March 3 at 8p.m.

It was a pleasure to once again sit down with Dixie for this Hotspots exclusive interview:

Were you always a performer, even as a child, or when did it start? I was never a performer or on stage. I started selling Tupperware, and a friend said you should put this ion stage. I took it to New York to a little theater and it got a lot of attention. I was then put on off Broadway and that got more attention. After that the world tour started.

When did you start selling Tupperware? August 31 2001 was my very first Tupperware party.

Where were you raised, and did that influence Dixie? Mobile Alabama is where I am from, and Dixie is definitely influenced by my upbringing…just listen to her voice and mannerisms!

“While I was talking a smile came over my face as I was thinking of someone in the back row that was probably feeling the same way I did a couple years prior.”

Is it true that while on a talk show in London you sold over $700 to the crew? I was doing a show a long time ago and I was promoting an upcoming show and brought a little bit of Tupperware with me. The crew got so excited about the things I talked about, and I sold a little bit over $700 to them.

How did it feel to be the #1 Tupperware saleswomen? Yes, I was the number 1 Tupperware sales lady…can you believe it? They have an annual Tupperware event called the Jubilee; it's like the academy awards of Tupperware. They brought me up on stage and they gave me a sash, and some other stuff and then they hand you a microphone. I remember the very first time I was at the Jubilee and I was sitting in the back row and I thought I will be up there one day. Fast forward a couple years and then I was. While I was talking a smile came over my face as I was thinking of someone in the back row that was probably feeling the same way I did a couple years prior.

After so many years doing Tupperware shows, what made you decide to venture into performing new shows? After the show I am always in the lobby of the theater Hotspots.LGBT | 11

chatting with people. Sometimes I am there over an hour and people constantly tell me I have the best stories and that they feel that they were getting their own private show. Eventually it made me think that I could do another show about my stories, and I did! My goal is really to put smiles on people's faces, and affect them in a positive way.

What was the inspiration for “No Instructions?” The world has changed. In the past everything came with instructions. Now there are no instructions anymore, and there seems to be no guide to plan on how to run your life. I might not know the answers on how to do things right, but I sure as hell know when you are doing it wrong.

Are you excited to once again be performing as part of the Outlandish Comedy Series? I am. Matt Farber does such a good job putting together a fun group of people who all have different ideas and opinions to share!

12 | Hotspots.LGBT

Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you? I am real good at riding a mechanical bull without falling off. I use one hand on the bridal and one hand on my sippy cup of Jack Daniels.

What's ahead for Dixie? There are a lot of irons in the fire and I am very excited about the future. I have some meetings in L.A. and I am working on a book. But rest assured my shows will always have new stories.

For more information on Dixie, go to: Dixielongate.com and don't forget Dixie will be premiering “No Instructions” as part of the Outlandish Comedy Series at the Sunshine Cathedral on Saturday, March 3 at 8p.m. For tickets, which start as low as $30, go to: OutlandishFL.com.

ChiChi – Maya Angelo Aja – Crystal Labeija Kennedy – Phaedra Parks Ben – Paul Lynde Shangela – Jennifer Lewis Trixie – RuPaul BeBe – Grace Jones

The runway look was Flower Power, and in my opinion everyone did well. The clear stand outs at Snatch Game were Ben and Shangela with a shout out to Aja (Congrats…as she is doing so much better in All Stars than she did in season 9). of 3…I am a full time drag queen and I make a great living doing what I love!

What has been some of your favorite cities to visit as a RuPaul Alumni? Seattle, LA, New York…I really like the big metropolitan cities. How exciting was it to get called back for All Stars? Did you consider not coming back, and if so what made you come back? It was exciting to be considered. There was never a doubt in my mind about coming back. Anytime they want me back, I will be there!

How did you prepare differently for all stars than you did the irst time you were on the show? Even though I had a feeling I would get a call to come back, I didn't prepare at all. After I got the call, I just scrounged up some stuff in my closet and hopped on a plane and went back to L.A. I think that may have been my downfall as I wasn't prepared as I should have been. You had the most gracious exit. Where did that come from? It came from me being in the bottom every week and realizing I had some more work to do., I knew it was my time to go home. I went to All Stars, and did they best so why would I be sad. I was so happy I got the opportunity, and I am using what I have learned for lighter luid to

spark the ire in me to do better.

Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win? Of course I am routing for Kennedy, because it's time to have a dancing queen win.

DANCE - ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER

returns to Arsht Center from Thursday, February 22 - Sunday, February 25. Featuring Company star Jamar Roberts, both Miami natives, Ailey’s extraordinary dancers will move audiences with exciting premieres including Roberts’ first work for the Company – Members Don’t Get Weary – an abstract look at what it means to have the blues, set to music by John Coltrane. Alvin Ailey’s signature masterpiece Revelations will provide the inspiring finale at each of the five performances.Tickets start at $29. MUSICALS - THE COLOR PURPLE

With a soul-raising score of jazz, gospel, ragtime and blues, “The Color Purple” gives an exhilarating new spirit to this Pulitzer Prize-winning story. Don’t miss this stunning re-imagining of an epic story about a young woman’s journey to love and triumph in the American South in the musical sensation that New York Magazine calls “one of the greatest revivals ever.” On stage Tuesday February 27-Sunday March 4 at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts with tickets staring at $29. COMEDIAN – HOWIE MANDELL

returns to the Kravis Center on Tuesday, February 27 with riotous commentary on everything from being afraid of germs (something he can relate to) to married life and more. His quick-wit audience comebacks and clever takes on everyday topics are why he’s become a mainstay of the American comedy scene. This event is for mature audiences only and tickets start at $25. ANIMALS - THE OLATE DOGS

the winners of “America’s Got Talent” season seven come to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday February 25 at 11a.m. Performing amazing circus stunts from doing back flips to jumping rope, pushing scooters, 10 poodle mixes —most of them rescue dogs—have captured hearts and dazzled audiences. This fast-paced, high-energy show has been featured in Las Vegas, the Today Show and the Tonight Show, and in sold-out venues across the country. Tickets start at $27. COMEDIAN - PREACHER LAWSON

He’s continued the wave of momentum last year having made his television debut on NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly” followed by an appearance on Comedy Dynamic’s “Coming To The Stage” and made a big splash on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” where he made it to the finals. You can catch his original style of comedy at the Palm Beach Improv from Thursday Feb 22 through Saturday February 24 with tickets starting at $20.

THEATER - DISASTER: THE MUSICAL

plays at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center from Thu, Feb 22 - Sat, Feb 24, with tickets ranging from $20 - $49. This is a new musical comedy straight from Broadway! Featuring some of the most unforgettable songs of the ‘70s including, “Knock on Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I Am Woman” and “Hot Stuff,” what begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple hilarious disasters. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive…or at least escape the killer rats. COMEDIAN - COLIN QUINN

presents “One in Every Crowd” on Saturday, February 24 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts at 8p.m. From the old MTV days to SNL to Comedy Central to Broadway, CQ is apparently refusing to leave the business. So if you enjoyed his other one man shows, or you just are at a place in your life where you are lost and you need intelligent laughs, come see his new show. One In Every Crowd. Tickets start at $31.50. IMPERSONATION - ROCKET MAN: AN ELTON JOHN TRIBUTE

takes place on Friday, February 23 at 7:30p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. A spot-on recreation of an early Elton John concert, featuring lavish costumes (sequined Dodgers uniforms, peacock outfits, massive glasses, etc.) that were originally worn by Elton himself, a world class rhythm section, and the magnetic performance power of Rus Anderson. Rus is an Elton John doppleganger who pulls off Sir Elton’s daunting vocal duties, piano skills, and fashion sense with appropriate panache. Expect a litany of hits, including “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting,” “Your Song,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, Bennie and the Jets, and most certainly “Rocket Man.” Tickets start at $29.72. GAY ICON - JOHN WATERS

Comes to the Sunshine Cathedral on Saturday, February 24 as part of the Outlandish series. John will present, “Filthy World” his one-man show; a “vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and obsessive tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” This joyously devious and continuously updated monologue is a rally cry against the tyranny of good taste and serves as a call to arms for filth followers everywhere. To purchase tickets go to: OutlandishFL.Com.

TELEVISION – SURVIVOR

one of my favorite shows of all times premieres its 36 season (yes you read that right, and yes I have been watching since season 1) on Wednesday, February 28 on CBS. If Survivor: Ghost Island’s latest castaways intend to make it through to the end, they’ll have to know the game inside and out. This latest edition features two groups of ten and will be centered on the terrible decisions made by players from previous seasons. A new twist allows participants to be sent to a separate, haunted island filled with the relics that helped send previous players packing. Among this new crop of players are a designer, physical education instructor, an EMT and an account.

Carrie Browstein Carrie Brownstein will “Search and Destroy” for Hulu

Bisexual punk rock icon and TV sketch comedy star Carrie Brownstein, of Sleater-Kinney and "Portlandia" fame, respectively, is hard at work on her new TV series, one that will bring the two halves of her working life together. It's called "Search and Destroy", Hulu's got it, and it's based on her 2015 memoir, "Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl". This TV news does not give you permission to skip reading that book, however, because the series, as of this moment, is considered a “loose” adaptation. That means it's not exactly going to be “The Sleater-Kinney Story,” but it will at least be the story of underground rock in the 90s from a queer, female perspective, with all the Riot Grrrl-ing that entails. We're daydreaming about it already, thinking of all the great rock and roll women who could make cameo appearances.

WINTER PARTY FESTIVAL:

a major milestone of 25 years Winter Party Festival marks a major milestone of 25 years with an impressive lineup of internationally renowned DJs, a brand-new partnership with Masterbeat, and the return to the iconic Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel as host hotel and site of the biggest pool party yet. This year's special occasion for the internationally acclaimed Festival will be marked with an incredible roster of events, all culminating in the 25th Edition Beach Party, the event that started it all. As you know, Winter Party began in 1994, as a one-day event, one of the first Miami mega-dance party ever held on the beach. Over the years the Festival has grown and evolved to the weeklong extravaganza that it is today and now

celebrates the unique spirit of “chosen family” among the LGBTQ community from around the globe. “People always ask me what it is that makes Winter Party Festival different from all other events like it, and the answer is love," said Michael Bath, Events Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force. "It is a labor of love for the staff and consultants involved, and especially for the dozens of volunteers who have sustained it and allowed it to flourish over the years. And all of that culminates in an atmosphere of love among the guests who attend our events.” The four men who founded the Winter Party Festival in 1994 conceived it as a oneday event, but it has endured for a quartercentury, brought joy to hundreds of

thousands of people and raised millions of dollars for LGBTQ causes. It is an honor to be part of this legacy," added Michael. In addition to long-standing events like the elegant VIP Cocktail Reception and the newly reimagined ArtScape, the Festival is raising the stakes on this year's silver anniversary by hosting two of its nighttime events at one amazing location. Winter Party is moving its Saturday and Sunday night parties to the James L. Knight Center, a world-class multipurpose entertainment complex. Both events will be produced in partnership with Masterbeat, a group that specializes in conceptualizing and producing theme events above the ordinary to provide our festival attendees with a unique once in a lifetime experience. “The Winter Party Planning Committee took the beginning of this season to listen to our guests and understand how we could improve their Winter Party experience," said Stephen Seo, Winter Party Festival Chair. "We're making huge changes, including introducing all-new Saturday and Sunday events at the James L. Knight Center. This means more space to dance

and bigger production as part of our partnership with Masterbeat.” Winter Party Festival, which has a proud tradition of bringing internationally renowned party brands from Brazil, Italy, Spain and more, is showcasing an international lineup of iconic DJs from the United States, Mexico, Canada and Spain to reflect its global appeal. This “Party with a Purpose” has been produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force for the last 13 years, and is an important fundraiser for both the Task Force and the South Florida LGBTQ community. The organization donates a significant portion of the proceeds from Winter Party Festival each year to LGBTQ advocacy and community groups in South Florida through a grant-making process administered by the GLBT Community Projects Fund at The Miami Foundation. In July 2017, the Task Force donated a record-breaking $300,000, for a grand total of $2.7 million given back since the Task Force took on the production of Winter Party Festival.

Nicole Halliwell

What was the first drag show you saw and tell me about the experience? Divas Las Vegas: the incredible Frank Marino and his cast of uncanny celebrity impersonators. It was overwhelming for me. The first real exposure I had to drag was that – and it sparked something in me. Not only could I idolize my favorite pop culture stars. I could become them! And people would pay to see it! That's what put the ball rolling into celebrity impersonations for me. I started my drag career impersonating Elvira, Mistress of the Dark thanks to “DIVAS!" When did you decide you wanted to do drag and when did you realize it would be a profession? Not long after Divas Las Vegas, the gears turning in my head, I dressed up as Elvira for the first time (2004) and went to my day job on Halloween in costume. A manager from a restaurant in Hard Rock Hotel spotted me and 64 | Hotspots.LGBT

offered for me to come by his business later in the evening for his Halloween event and mingle with the crowd - and said he'd pay me. Who am I to turn down extra money? So I showed up later to camera flashes and groups of people asking me for pictures, and found out he had told them the real Elvira would be there. It was insanity - I felt like a real celebrity! At the end of the night he handed me $500… and I thought...I could get use to this…and so it began. The following year, I had my own show at the Improv Comedy Club as Elvira, and each year after my appearances grew. I created “Nicole” in 2007, and I've been working my way up the ladder for more than a decade… and I'm still doing Elvira! Who is your drag mother and who is your favorite queen other than your drag mother and why? *sniffle* I never had a Drag Mother! And I still firmly believe that you don't need one –

make your own damn path and legacy! My favorite queen would have to be the legendary and always supportive Nikki Adams. When I first started making a name for myself, Nikki was always kind to offer great advice (that I still use to this day) and great laughs. There's lots of talented girls in town, but very few that have bulldozed their own path quite like her. Today's drag is so different than when I started. Instagram looks are great, death drops and amazing costumes are impressive.... but everybody does that now. Nikki (to me) is the total package. A multi-talented pageant icon, and a business woman. I identified with her work ethic immediately. She taught me that a professional and carefully curated queen will thrive. And she was right! She's truly classic showbiz - originating from a time when drag was a less competitive sport, and more a highly regarded art. She embodies all the layers of poise, talent, and brains needed to be successful and I'm thankful she's been able to pass along her wisdom to me. It's gotten me far. What's your favorite number to perform and why? HOCUS POCUS! This production is my heart and soul. It's gone from being a one-off drag show production number to a full-blown Wilton Manors Halloween tradition. Last year I was so proud to make it a traveling show! There's something about being on stage with these incredible performers and friends, and all of us sharing the love and passion for this movie as kids. When we're all together we get immersed into the show and it just becomes this giant symphony that we all contribute to. Filling up clubs over capacity and the roar of the audience truly makes it my absolute favorite thing to perform. We're back on tour for our 5th year in 2018! Shameless plug : Check us out at Hocuspocuslive.net! What's the best thing that has happened to you in drag?

Meeting one of the Spice Girls and then traveling to LA to perform on America's Got Talent! I dreamed up this idea to appear at Sugar Factory in Miami for Mel B's promotional tour appearance in replica Spice Girls looks, and it turned out to be more than I could've ever imagined. She was glued to us the entire time, and was so busy chatting that we didn't realize mass media/news outlets, and photographers for major publications were snapping away. Our pictures (as the drag Spice Gurlz, IG:@omgspicegurlz) ended up on newspapers, blogs, and magazine covers all over the world overnight. Just a few months later there we were standing on stage in front of thousands at a taping of AGT in Los Angeles, and then on TV in front of millions! We still get featured on their 'flashback' featurettes, and our photos come up when you google search Spice Girls. It's NUTS! What differentiates you from other Queens (Makes you Unique)? I consider myself a shapeshifter and a business queen! I can adapt to almost anything…into whatever style or brand that I'm required to be, and I know how to negotiate and close a deal. Fetish Parties, Corporate Events, Burlesque, Cosplay, Character Lookalikes, Classic Divas… I love a challenge! Being so versatile (in drag! LOL) has opened doors to a lot of opportunities for me that most drag queens wouldn't normally see. Don't get me wrong, I'm surrounded by VERY talented, incredible artists and performers whom I adore, most of whom are far more talented than me in many ways – but I've got my own unique style and brand of doing things, which is my little corner niche of the market. There's nobody who really does what I do. I guess that's why I'm still around! What does the future hold? With so many twists and turns, who knows! I've been fortunate enough to continue to be successful in this business, so I'm carefully steering this clown car to keep myself on the path! In the immediate future: I am going to focus on my new show at the incredible Lips Fort Lauderdale – called Twisted Broadway; every Wednesday (www.lipsfla.com)! I am also about to celebrate (in March) the 1 year anniversary of our amazing show Slay Thursdays at Southern Nights, and I'll be launching 3 new drag-related businesses in 2018. Regardless of what the future holds, I'm thankful for everything I've experienced thus far, and all the incredible people who I've gotten to work with along the way!

DOUG MAINWARING BY D’ANNE WITKOWSKI

G

LAAD’s 2018 Accelerating Acceptance report is out and the results are a bit disappointing. For four years, GLAAD has commissioned a survey of American acceptance and attitudes toward LBGTQ Americans, seeing annual gains. For the first time, support is shrinking. It’s not all doom and gloom, mind you. The report concludes with assurances that “supporting equal rights for LGBTQ people remains stable and strong with non-LGBTQ adults” putting that support at 79 percent, which is way higher than Trump’s approval rating. With Trump as president anti-LGBTQ sentiment has risen. He’s stoked it personally, after all, and Mike Pence is one of the biggest homophobes to ever hold office. The antiLGBTQ Trump administration officials and judges he’s nominated are too numerous to name. Right-wing bigots are fawning over the fact that the president is normalizing their demonization of LGBTQ people. So, I’m not shocked that overall support has fallen. We’ve got the most powerful people in the country supporting anti-LGBTQ policies and people. That’s gonna have an impact on acceptance. But to hear Doug Mainwaring of LifeSiteNews tell it, the GLAAD report proves that people are finally feeling free to say Merry Christmas God hates fags again after eight years of Obama’s political correctness goons forcing America to pledge allegiance to the gays. “The normalization of homosexuality, samesex marriages and now transgenderism always relied on the power of political correctness to manufacture consent at unreal, unsustainable levels,” wrote Mainwaring in a Feb. 5 blog post. “It is a mirage ... created not by the hearty endorsement of this country’s majority, but by its silence. In the age of Obama, political correctness beared its sharp teeth, silencing all who held opinions in opposition to any and

every part of LGBT ideology.” “Now in the age of Trump, when political correctness is losing its stranglehold on America, people are beginning to again feel free to assert their strongly-held personal beliefs,” Mainwaring wrote. And that’s true. Shitty people feel much freer to be openly shitty now that we’ve elevated a person who represents the worst of America to the highest office in the land. “What will Main Street America do when it finally sinks in that it has been propagandized, and that instead of one out of four of their neighbors being gay, less than two out of 100 are?” he asked. Uh, still treat them like human beings? Because last time I checked, civil rights wasn’t a numbers game. It’s as if Mainwaring thinks that the 79 percent of Americans who approve of equality only did so because they were afraid some huge gay army was going to come for them otherwise. HOT BODIES

WARMING UP & STRETCHING ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS TO A SUPER WORKOUT! by Tom Bonanti

G

eneral warming up refers to any physical activity that jacks up muscle and body temperature. Warming up is essential to your workouts in the gym and every other athletic activity for that matter. Examples of whole body general warm-ups are light jogging, calisthenics, jumping rope and riding a stationary bike. Warming up for 10-15 minutes also affords you the opportunity to get psyched up mentally for a challenging and successful workout. Warming up involves movements that are similar to what you will be doing

Warming up also helps you to rid yourself of distractions and clear your mind as you focus upon the tasks ahead. There is however one potentially negative effect of warm ups: if your warm up is too long or too intense you may end up too tired to work out! Don't overdo your warming up session. Generally, a moderate 10- minute warm-up is great for a weight training session. A longer and more specific warm-up, say 20 minutes, is preferred for a specific athletic event like golf, tennis or a marathon run.

(whether it's weight training, powerlifting, swimming, running, or tennis), but at a much lower intensity level. This not only increases muscle and body temperature, but also provides a rehearsal of the actual event, which may improve your performance. For example, in the gym, if you are preparing to do bench presses, do some light weight dumbbell bench presses before loading up the bar with monster weight. Typically, one to three sets of 10 – 15 reps using a light to moderate weight should be sufficient; more advanced exercisers may need to warm up longer and more intensely to achieve an optimal body and muscle temperature.

There are several psychological factors created by warm-ups. Skilled performance improves with brief warm up activities identical or directly related to the sport.

Stretching is another very important preparatory activity used to improve flexibility and physical performance. Flexibility may be defined as the range of motion possible around a specific joint. In weight training, a lack of flexibility can lead to injuries including muscle strains and sprains. After warming up, perform three reps of at least one static stretch for each major muscle group you will be training. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds or until you feel a slight amount of discomfort. Never bounce, jerk or force a stretch and make sure to breathe out on each stretch. More extensive stretching is typically more beneficial during the workout between sets of exercises for the muscle groups that you are training. Remember, a five to ten- minute warm up along with a few light stretches can heat up your body and muscles and really add to the success of your workout.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING

Make Sure People Remember You For The Right Reasons

W

e've all had that time when we lubbed a irst impression. That time when we were set to meet someone for the irst time and something went really wrong. Perhaps it was the poppyseeds in the teeth from the morning bagel? Or a skirt tucked into the pantyhose at the back, revealing more than you ever intended? Or the piece of toilet paper dragging on the bottom of your shoe? It's all fodder for a stand up comedy act. But a bad irst impression doesn't have to be the result of something as major as the skirt in the pantyhose. It can stem from something as simple as terrible listening skills or negative body language. Read on a for a few tips on making a good impression, with some speci ic suggestions for those times when you are most likely to need them. Listening to what the person in front of you is saying and responding to it accordingly. Parrot back some of their words, so that they know that you have heard them and ask them relevant questions, which incites them to keep talking. Even if things go wildly wrong: the waiter drops soup on your date; a passing cab splashes both of you as you stand waiting to cross the street; whatever happens, take it in stride and remain positive. Nothing says 'loser' like a 34 year old having a tantrum in the middle of the street. #1 tip for irst impressions on the playground Making new friends as an adult is HARD, particularly breaking into the 'mommy cliques' at the playground of your children's school. Avoid talking about anything related to the school and instead approach a group and ask their opinion on the best place in the neighborhood to get a haircut for Little Timmy. They'll be more than happy to share their wisdom and you've got an in by being open and curious. #1 tip for irst impressions online These days, you are just as likely to 'meet' someone for the irst time in the digital arena as in the real world, so it's vital that your online image is clean. I'm not referring to your picture or avatar, though these should be suited to the platform (LinkedIN: professional; Facebook: fun but not awkward; Twitter: something more than the egg). Search for yourself regularly on search 100 | Hotspots.LGBT

engines and social media to see what people will ind when they look you up, because they will look you up and you don't want to ind embarrassing shots of you knocking back shooters in your underwear as the irst link they ind. #1 tip for irst impressions in any situation: men vs. women The thing that men are most impressed by? Eye contact and a good handshake - nothing limp or 'wet ish' like. For women? Eye contact as well, plus a genuine smile. So men and women might not be as different as originally thought! At the end of the day, you have three to ive seconds to make a irst impression. Make it a good one. n the heels of VH1's industry leading ten consecutive quarters of YoY ratings growth (P18-49) - the best streak across broadcast and cable – comes “VH1 Beauty Bar” premiering Wednesday, February 28 at 10PM ET/PT. The series will serve as a companion to VH1's hit franchise “Black Ink Crew” also airing Wednesday nights. From Truly Original, “VH1 Beauty Bar” follows an eclectic group of hairstylists and makeup artists from the Inwood, Manhattan hotspot HOUSE OF DOLLS BY HENRY. Frequented by New York's elite, the fullservice salon is known to locals as the go-to glam pregame spot with can't-miss makeovers and uptown flavor. “VH1 Beauty Bar” centers on a group of dynamic stylists working in tight quarters filled with extraordinary talent and even bigger personalities. This season, the group will be forced to confront their differences in order to move forward and belong to something bigger than themselves. With everything on the line, will ego prevent them from catering to their devoted clientele and will the pressure to succeed prevent their success in the beauty industry? Tune in on Wednesday, February 28 at 10PM ET/PT to see it all unfold.

The “VH1 Beauty Bar” cast includes: Thalia is the center of attention who commands the beauty scene with her looks and makeup expertise. Using his own face as a canvas, Kevin is known for his flamboyant makeover magic that has significantly grown his social media following and clientele. Master colorist Vee is a former bottle girl who hopes to one day own a salon. Notik is the resident barber who constantly draws in new clients to stay ahead of the game. New to the salon are hairstylists Princess, who is determined to prove herself as a top “weaveologist,” and her best friend Rell, the shop's loctician (dreadlock specialist). Owner Henry runs a tight ship as he manages the salon and day-to-day operations alongside his business partner Tess. Be part of our glam squad by liking VH1’s Beauty Bar on Facebook. Stay up-to-date on the show on Twitter and Instagram by following @VH1 and use #VH1BeautyBar to join the conversation.

“Vh1 Beauty Bar” is produced by Truly Original with Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh, Lauren Eskelin, Stephen Mintz, Michael Meinecke, Rahel Tennione and, for Crybaby Media, Danny Passman serving as executive producers. Nina L. Diaz, Lily Neumeyer, Liz Fine, and Daniel Blau Rogge are executive producers for VH1.
