pisode 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10 started out with a Mini Challenge called “Super Macho Character,” where the queens had to pose (as men), modeling for an advertisement for a manly body spray called “Trade.” In the end Eureka won and was awarded a $2,000 gift card for MuLondon skin care as well as the opportunity to pair up the girls with their Makeover Men, social media stars — some gay, some straight — they would have to transform into sister queens for the Maxi Challenge. Once the Makeover Men were in drag, each pair had to star in their own DIY video of one of Ru's songs. In the end, Miz Cracker (who was long overdue) won her first challenge and snagged a

$2,000 gift card from Jane Doe Latex. Her protégé Chester took home a $2,000 gift card for Klein, Epstein & Parker menswear. The bottom two were Cameron and Monet, with Monet sashaying away. But before we get to my chat with Monet, there are two urgent matters I must address. First, a very special shout-out goes to Michelle Visage, who is always on point but looked incredibly beautiful in this episode! And second, but perhaps more important, Drag Race fans, PLEASE NOTE: There is no show next week. But expect a new episode Thursday, June 7. And, now… Monet!
At what age did drag become an interest? Drag became an interest at 19 or 20, when Peppermint came to my college and hosted a drag ball. I immediately fell in love with it. How did you pick your name? I was eating at PDQ, and there was a currency exchange booth across the street. I saw the words Money Exchange, and that's how I decided on my name. How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul's Drag Race? I applied every time since Season 6, so four times. How did it feel when you found out you had been chosen? When I found out I was cast, I was so excited because I knew how this platform would change my life. Is there additional pressure now that RuPaul's Drag Race has been on for nine seasons plus three seasons of All Stars? Absolutely. Everything you bring is held to a much higher standard! Tell me about your Drag Race experience. I think it was great. I was authentic to my brand, and I think my time on the show was very impactful. I believe the viewing public got to know and love me. 30 | Hotspots.LGBT
Queens & Wannabe Queens Monet | Tyler Oakley Miz Cracker | Chester See Aquaria | Kingsley Cameron | Anthony Padilla Asia | Raymond Braun Eureka | Frankie Grande “I'm looking for someone who is employed and tall. I love tall guys!” What's your marital status? I am very single. What are you looking for in a man? I'm looking for someone who is employed and tall. I love tall guys! Who do you want to win and why? I'm rooting for Miz Cracker since she's been my friend for a long time. I'm a big believer in her drag, and she is one of the funniest people I know. In addition, I truly think she would be a great winner. What's ahead for Monet? I have my podcast with Bob the Drag Queen, which we are working on getting it out to a larger audience. Last night, my music video for “Soak it Up” dropped, and it's doing very well. I will have an EP coming out later this year, which will be very eclectic. I am also working on a YouTube channel that I think everyone will love! For more info on Monet Xchange, go to:Instagram.com/MonetXchange.

The Main Events After Gay Disney in Orlando next weekend, but before Wilton Manors' Stonewall celebrations later in June, Pride dips south to touch down in Key West between the 6th (or so) and the 10th. With an official motto of “One Human Family” and its legendarily laidback attitude, The Conch Republic, is a particularly welcoming and copacetic place to get your Pride on. The Key West Business Guild, the nation's oldest Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, assembles a very fun week of events, including pool parties and late-night soirées, the finale of a North American cocktail contest, theatrical readings, film screenings, a Pride street fair, pageants and, of course, a parade. We've got your pocket guide to all the shenanigans. —Bill Henning 42 | Hotspots.LGBT
The two headline events of Key West Pride are a street fair on Saturday, June 9 and the parade on Sunday, June 10, which runs along Duval Street from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean (just imagine getting from one to the other without having to drive across The Everglades!). The parade steps off at the very civilized hour of 5pm — no noon start times on Sundays here! And you can take in the whole thing and still make it to La Te Da in plenty of time for tea dance at 7. That's just the way Key West rolls.
Spirits Key West is known for its spirits. And I'm not just talking Papa Hemingway's ghost.
to-Sea rainbow flag that Key West Pride debuted in 2003, a tribute to Gilbert Baker, creator of the original rainbow flag. Believe it or not, Baker's original design featured eight stripes, not just the six we see on rainbow flags worldwide today. The other two colors, hot pink and turquoise, were dropped from the official design due to “manufacturing issues' when the flag quickly grew in popularity and started being mass produced, The Sea-to-Sea flag, however, features all eight of Baker's original stripes. Don't you ever tell a Key West queen she can't have her hot pink and turquoise because of “manufacturing issues!”
Performance
As Jimmy Buffet (and just about anyone who's ever been to The Southernmost Point) can tell you, Key West takes cocktailing seriously. If Team USA had a drinking squad, they'd probably train in The Conch Republic. Along with the street fair and parade, the third anchor of Pride is the Stoli Key West Cocktail Classic. This mixology competition sees regional winners from LGBT bars in 14 North American cities tasked with creating a Key West cocktail that embodies the island's creativity and free spirit. The competition kicks off Wednesday night at Island House, with events daily throughout the weekend.
Local Color This year's parade will feature a 100-foot section of the famed 1.25-mile-long Sea-
Show business seems to be in the water in Key West, and the week's festivities kick off on Saturday June 2 with Pride Follies, a variety show at Key West Theater (512 Eaton St; Tix: $15–30, keystix.com) that promises “the best (and sometimes the worst) of local Key West performing artists.” Bar service is available during the performance (natch!). Later in the week, you can catch stage readings of plays including Douglas Carter Beane's The Little Dog Laughed and Moises Kaufman's Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde. And if you prefer your performances at a safe remove, during Pride weekend, Tropic Cinema (416 Eaton St; tropiccinema.com) is holding several screenings of BPM, last year's excellent French feature about life, love, and activism at the height of the AIDS crisis.
Pageantry If you enjoy a good pageant, Key West Pride is hosting three of them: Miss, Ms., and Mr. Key West Pride. The weekend also features the Miss Paradise Female Impersonator Pageant, the local qualifier for Miss Florida Female Impersonator.

Ezra Miller, star of Justice League, isn’t sitting around waiting for the DC Cinematic Universe to keep his career afloat. Miller will star in flashback sequences as the young Salvador Dali (Ben Kingsley will play the legendary artist as an older man) for a story set in New York and Spain in the early 1970s, and told from the perspective of a gallery assistant played by Frank Dillane (Fear The Walking Dead). Phantom Thread breakout star Lesley Manville will play Dali’s formidable wife, and Tim Roth the artist’s best friend. Expect this one to kick off big festivals when it’s finished.

A LITTLE CARNY, A LITTLE VERSACE Elle Taylor brings big-top creativity to Key West and Italian fashion royalty to the small screen. By Scott Holland
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Elle Taylor lived in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois for a short time before finally making her way down to paradise — Key West — in July of 2009. Just two years later Taylor joined the cast of characters at Club Aqua, where she's been a mainstay ever since. Taylor's prodigious talent is obvious to anyone who's seen her perform. But what really sticks with her audiences is this queen's out-of-the-box creativity. Elle often leaves

crowds in awe, asking: “What was that? No. really, what was that?!” But also: “What is drag, exactly? And what can it be?” Ellle's husband of four years, Brian, is just as sweet as she is talented. Together, they make the perfect couple (don't be jealous, haters!), driving all over the country and hitting the pageant circuit. Brian was gracious enough to let me ride shotgun with Elle just long enough for this exclusive Hotspots interview.
What was the first drag show you saw? The first-ever drag show I actually went to — as just a spectator — was at The Yacht Club in Birmingham, Alabama during Central Alabama Pride. When did you decide you wanted to do drag? I started doing drag when I was 15, without anyone knowing. When did you finally realize it could be a profession for you? Over the years, I performed in many amazing places, but it wasn't until I moved to Key West that I found out this could be my profession — a career where I work seven nights a week! Who is your drag mother? My drag mother is Trinity Taylor.
Aside from your drag mother, who's your favorite queen and why? Besides Tiffany, I would have to say my favorite drag queen is Morgan McMichaels because I always know I'm going to have fun when I work with her. What's your favorite number to perform these days and why? Any of my aerial-silk [acrobatic] performances. I love being different, evoking emotion, and bringing smiles to faces in the audience. What's the best thing that's ever happened to you in drag? This will probably come as a surprise to no one, but the biggest thing that's happened to me in my drag career was getting the role of Donatella Versace in this past season of American Crime Story.
“The biggest thing that's happened to me was getting the role of Donatella Versace in this past season of ‘American Crime Story.’”
What sets you apart from other queens? I like to be different: from doing aerial silks, to swallowing swords, to eating and breathing fire. I want to show that there's more to drag than just standing on stage lip-synching. It's an art form and a platform for you to be as creative as you want. I encourage everyone to be as creative as they can. What does the future hold? No one truly knows what the future holds. But for me, I hope it includes winning a few national titles, leaving an everlasting impression on our community, and continuing to do films. So, keep a close eye on both your TV and the movie screen because you never know where I might show up — or who I'm going to be!

Lettre sur les sourds et muets II, 1974
With Memorial Day weekend in the rearview mirror, there's only two places I want to be for the next four months: beside a pool or somewhere inside with the A.C. blasting. While the first option is a perennial favorite — and if you pick your swimming hole (and companions) carefully, the visuals can be quite rewarding — lounging poolside can be a little limiting if you want to stimulate areas above the neck. Summers in South Florida are l-o-n-g, and there's only so many books you can read. So, I was excited to hear that NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, a local leader in, among other things, air conditioning, had extended its critically acclaimed exhibit, Frank Stella: Experiment and Change, all the way through July 29. Stella, as you probably know, is a groundbreaking modernist and, at 82, one of America's greatest living artists. The Whitney Museum in NYC staged a massive Stella retrospective just three

Experiment and Change boasts more than 300 works covering every facet of the New York artist's 60-year career, from paintings Stella did as a Princeton student in the late 1950s to the present, including iconic early geometric works such as his Black Paintings, shaped canvases, and Protractor Series, and all stages of his output since the 1980s, as Stella's wall-hung works have become increasingly three-dimensional, bounding off the canvas (often with the help of computer modeling), and he has continued his explorations with free-standing sculpture and prints. NSU Art Museum Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater worked closely with Stella on the show, and it features extensive materials from the artist's “working archive.” In fact, one large gallery is filled to bursting with notes, sketches,

This Saturday South Florida's fiercest and most talented up-and-coming drag performers will duel to the death at Magic City Casino for a cash prize of $5,000 and the title of… Ultimate Miami Drag Queen. During the pageant-style contest, the queens will showcase their personal style and performance skills through three rounds of competition: talent, runway, and Q&A. Judging their efforts will be NBC6 anchor Roxanne Vargas, SAVE Director Tony Lima, and 610AM WIOD radio personality Manny Muñoz. Also judging — unofficially, from backstage, if not from the judges' table — will be drag superstars, and former RuPaul's Drag Race contestants, Adore Delano, Chad Michaels, and Nina BoNina Brown, who will be headlining Saturday's pageant. I caught up with Adore and Chad (Nina blocked me) for this Hotspots exclusive interview.

What have you been up to since last we spoke, after your appearances on Drag Race All Stars? Adore Things are good. I've been just enjoying life on the road, practicing for my band tours, and prepping for music videos. Chad Wow, it's been a wild ride since Drag Race! So many wonderful things have happened. I've been able to tour the world doing what I love to do, and I've met some amazing people! I currently have a project with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again that will be released in June and a part in a movie that will hopefully materialize before year's end! Are you excited to be performing at Magic City Casino's Ultimate Miami Drag Queen? Adore This is so awesome. I can't wait to party! Chad This will be my third time back with Magic City's Ultimate Miami Drag Queen, and I couldn't be more honored. This is a competition with a lot of heart, and it inspires me to see these entertainers working so hard to achieve their goals and dreams. I'm very excited to be working with Adore and Nina BoNina! The entertainment will be diverse, with something for everyone. What should we expect from your performance? Adore I'm such an unpredictable bitch. We're going to have a great time! Chad I'll be bringing some “Classic Cher, including some of Cher's amazing Bob Mackie

Ultimate Goodbye Outgoing champ Athena Dion on her humanitarian efforts and serving brunch All good things must come to an end. And so Miami Ultimate Drag Queen 2017, Athena Dion, will be honored at Saturday night's glamorous event, before she takes off her Ultimate Miami Grad Queen sash and tiara for the last time. (Ha! As if girlfriend's never gonna put that crown on again!) I caught up with Athena — who I've known since she was a wee boy, before drag — to find out about her year in the spotlight. —SH How did it feel when you won Miami Ultimate Drag Queen last year? Winning Ultimate Miami was a dream come true. There are only a few competitions I really set my heart on winning, and this was one of them. There were a couple reasons I wanted it so badly. First, the amazing title of being the Ultimate Miami queen! As someone who's dedicated so much time to my community and Miami events, this was a title I just had to have. And second, that amazing cash prize of $5,000! How did you spend the five grand? Originally, I wanted to spend the cash on a trip to Greece, but that was put on hold. So, I decided to invest the money in my event and humanitarian company, Dream Queens. I built a website and a business model and launched early this year. Dream Queens' ultimate goal is to “share laughter, light, and fabulosity with anyone going through a rough patch in life or anyone who wants to add a little bit of razzle-dazzle” to their event. Tell me about your year as Ultimate Miami Drag Queen. My reign has been fabulous! I'm the type of person who is constantly looking for opportunities to grow and new avenues to share my talents. The title landed me extra visibility. It allowed me to reach some people who hadn't been exposed to me. It helped me to really grow my personal brand and my company, Dream Queens. It also increased the visibility of the many events I produce that are outside of the LGBT circuit, such as my Drag Brunch at R House Restaurant in Wynwood. Overall, it's been a tremendous experience and a testament to achieving my own potential. It feels good to conquer your goals. And you know, when you feel good... you look good!

costumes — well, my version of them! I can't wait to “Cher” the love! What does the future hold for you? Adore Checkout my album Whatever! It's on the streaming services. Can't wait to see you in Miami! Chad The future is always unpredictable but I plan on continuing to live my dreams and keep on entertaining people wherever they want me. Back in 2012 through 2014, I had some serious health issues that prevented me from traveling. So, now that I am feeling better, I'm making up for lost time. I think I'm most excited about the movie project I mentioned earlier. It's called Maybe This Time. I'm looking forward to honing my acting skills and stepping outside the confines of being a celebrity impersonator. I will see you soon, Miami! Let's have some fun and elevate all the talented contestants competing for the title of Ultimate Miami Drag Queen! Ultimate Miami Drag Queen. Sat Jun 2, 9pm. Stage 305 @ Magic City Casino (450 NW 37th Ave, Miami). Tix ($35/$300 for VIP tables seating 4; must be 21+)

Surefire Strategies You Can Use to Beat Stress by Tom Bonanti

oes your life sometimes feel like a never-ending series of chores that brings you plenty of aggravation and grief but precious little joy? If so, you’re one of the millions of people who have let stress take control of their lives.
Almost 77% of Americans suffer from physical symptoms of stress. If you struggle with excessive fatigue, stomach upset, headaches, muscle tension, or poor sleep,

you may be one of them. Nearly 73% of Americans experience psychological difficulties related to stress, including nightmares, panic attacks, and depression. Stress at work and at home can take a daunting toll, but there are things you can do to beat stress before it beats you! Manage stress by figuring out what brings you joy ― and then taking measures to bring more of those joyful things into your life. A new workout, a coffee break with a supportive friend, enjoying a home-cooked meal with someone you’re dating or your spouse: These are all great ways to enhance your life. Life is too short to skimp on the experiences that bring genuine joy to your heart. On the flip side, reflect upon what you need less of in your life, so you can become more peaceful. Days lost nursing hangovers, quality time wasted on relentlessly negative friends, hours spent beating yourself up over things you
