South Florida
O
n Friday night we headed over to the newest bar on the drive, Pint, who hosts a weekly RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Party with hostess
Drag Queen Christmas at The Parker Playhouse. Hostesses were Miss Cracker and Monet Exchange, with performances
Starlet Skye. The place was packed and everyone had their favorite to win, but no one was surprised that Gia Sashayed away.
Also on Friday evening, The Pub hosted Electra's Merry Christmas to a Jew, and as you can see from the pic Electra has a lot of fans!
On Saturday, we went to: Murray and Peter Presents A 12 | Hotspots.LGBT
from: Raja, Aja, Shea, Roxxxy Andrews, and South Florida's very own Latrice Royale who finished out the sets and killed the crowd! The Parker Playhouse was sold out with standing room only. Congrats to Murray and Peter on another fabulous tour! On Sunday we went to Rosie's for their infamous
Sunday Funday. As usual, they were busy, but imagine our surprise when we ran into comedian Fortune Feimster, who was made famous from being on Chelsea Lately and now travels all over the world performing her stand up. (See pic of her and Hotspots' own Stephen R. Lang).
On Sunday evening we went to dinner at Tee Jay Thai
Everything you need to plan your week Sushi in Wilton Manors and once again the food was scrumptious…just look at the pic and tell me your mouth doesn't water!
We ended the evening at Hunters for the world Famous Disco Sunday T and one again DJ Richie Rich turned the music and the dance floor was packed!

Sundance Film Festival. It's called Late Night, it stars (and was written by) Mindy Kaling, and the story revolves around a talk show host (Emma Thompson), on the verge of having her series cancelled. A new writer (Kaling), the lone person of color as well as the sole woman, comes on staff as a “diversity hire” and shakes up the show's production. Costarring John Lithgow, Hugh Dancy, Denis O'Hare and Amy Ryan, it's a personal project for Kaling, whose career has been spent maneuvering around similar white, male obstacles. She even wrote the film specifically with Thompson in mind because she's a fan and wanted to work with her – in other words it's the opposite of Hollywood moviemaking by committee and exactly the sort of thing that earns its way into Sundance.
Jim Parsons delivers a Spoiler Alert Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies isn't really a happy story, but it's a true one, and it's about queer love in the face of the unthinkable. It began life as a memoir from writer Michael Ausiello, about the 11-month period between diagnosis and death from cancer for his partner, photographer Kit Cowan. And now it's going to be a film starring Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons. Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) will direct and produce the screenplay by David Marshall Grant (A Million Little Things) and Dan Savage. But it's not all going to be about illness. The 22 | Hotspots.LGBT
story covers the expanse of Cowan and Ausiello's 14-yearlong relationship and the million little things that go into building a life together that's strong enough to deal with the worst possible doctor's news. We'll be there with a box of tissue.

pisode 3 of Ru Paul's Drag Race Season 4 brought the much loved Snatch Game, but this time there was a twist, it was called Snatch Game of Love, and 2 teams of 4 would be competing for a bachelor ala the Dating Game style. The first group was, who was competing for Olympic athlete Gus Kentworthy: Trinity – Caitlyn Jenner Monet – Whitney Houston Naomi – Wendy Williams Valentina – Eartha Kitt The second bachelor was actor Keiynan Lonsdale and the group competing was:
26 | Hotspots.LGBT
Latrice – Della Reese Gia – Jenny Bui (Cardi B's nail technician) Monique – Tiffany Haddish Manilla - Barbra Streisand The runway look was Boots the house down. In the end the top two were Trinity and Manilla and the bottom two were Valentina and Gia. Manilla won the Lip synch for your Legacy and send Gia home. It was a pleasure to sit down with Gia for this exclusive Hotspots interview: How has your life changed since you were on Drag Race? It has allowed me to go on this huge journey
of self-discovery and blossom in to the trans woman I am today, and live my truth. I am also happy to inspire people to be who they are.
What has been some of your favorite places to visit as a RuPaul Alumni? I love Australia, South America, Tokyo Japan, and Mexico. The truth is anywhere international I loved, because I love experiencing different cultures.
How exciting was it to get called back for All Stars? Did you consider not coming back, and if so what made you come back? When I first got the call I was very unsure, as it's not an easy decision to make. When I realized it was not so much about me, but giving back to the Trans community by giving them visibility I realized it was my duty to fulfill this role. I was super honored to be the first Trans woman invited to be on Drag Race. I never expected it, but I felt blessed.
How did you prepare differently for All Stars than you did the first time you were on the show? Well the budget has definitely increased, so I was able to prepare more especially with the clothing. Mentally, I was much more prepared as I knew what to expect.
You were accused of stirring the pot by a few of the girls, was this true? I went there to create good reality television and that's what I did. I fulfilled my duty as a TV personality.
Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win? I would love to see Trinity the Tuck win because she is a very strong well rounded queen. Not only in her talent, but her looks as well. I can honor any queen that is fierce and speaks their truth. What's Ahead for Gia? In 2019 I plan on capitalizing on my fame by diving into to more activism and collaborating with brands that support transgender
individuals. I am also going on a one woman tour called the “This Is Me Tour, so check it out when it gets to your city. For more information on Gia Gunn, go to her website: Giagunnonline.com

exclusive Hotspots Interview:
now. I truly love it.
When did the performing bug take a hold of you?
What's your dream role?
At the age of 19. I was just getting out of high school and going to college. I was originally going to major in criminal justice, but then I saw some shows and changed my mind.
I'm really new to the whole musical theater genre, so I am going to guess it would be amazing to be in Kinky Boots or Aladdin.
What was your first professional/paid gig? My first professional gig was a drag show. A friend of a friend told me they needed a male dance in drag and I took it. I got paid $500.
When did you know it would be your career? I knew it when I saw some of my friends become successful. They were so happy doing what they love, and that's when I decided I need to make it my career because I loved it also.
How did you get cast in “On Your Feet?” I saw the show 8 times on Broadway and then I auditioned 7 times. A year went by and I didn't hear anything. One night I was watching RuPaul's Drag Race and eating Doritos with my b/f and I got an email to see if I was interested in joining, and the rest is history.
How did you meet? We met about 1 ½ years ago in Provincetown where we did a show together. He is also a dancer/performer. We originally were just friends, but almost immediately started dating.
Besides this role, what has been your favorite role? Nothing beats the show that I am in right
What should our readers expect from the touring company of “On Your Feet?” You should expect a whole lot of fun, and super high energy, as this musical makes you get up “On Your Feet.” It makes you want to laugh, smile, cry, and feel united. The message is we are all the same, we are all doing it together and we are here to spread love and be ourselves.

A Year in Review:
What the Celebs Said Interviews by Chris Azzopardi
“It's like your queer uncle that was marching back in '78: Maybe he doesn't have the loud voice, maybe he can't march as fast now, but he is still just as important.” – Eric McCormack on the Will & Grace revival
“Do I care anymore about mass appeal? Do I care about universality if it's not moving people?” – lesbian musician Brandi Carlile, the most nominated female at this year's Grammys “I think I haven't had that emotional love for a lady, which isn't saying it could never happen to me, but I think I'm more of an Emily than a Stephanie.” – Anna Kendrick, who played opposite Blake Lively's sexually luid Emily in A Simple Favor 40

Cher once jumped out of a bathroom window with her gay friend to escape the police. And if you also didn't know that you mean as much to her as she means to you, well, now you do. The gay icon of all gay icons expressed just that (see her heartfelt quote below) when she called me in September while promoting her 26th (!!) album, Dancing Queen. Other highlights from this year's interviews with LGBTQ-identifying and adjacent Hollywood notables: Anna Kendrick opened up about being sexually luid, Will & Grace stars Eric McCormack and Sean Hayes chatted about the show's revival, and powerhouse actress Viola Davis re lected on her queer evolution.
“There's been sometimes where I was just, you know, heartbroken about things, but it always gives you hope when there are people who think that you're cute and worthwhile and an artist.” – Cher on her LGBTQ fans
“Even as a 13-year-old, I saw my friends be con licted with their sexuality and religion and I was thinking, 'OK, something's wrong here.'” – Dan Reynolds, Imagine Dragons frontman “I just wanted to be a beacon for moms who are confused…” – Jennifer Garner on playing the mother of a gay son in Love, Simon. “If the people are listening to you, you should say something worth hearing.” – Jussie Smollett
“That was a irst for me. I can't say that I've walked in on any gay orgies in the past.” – Margot Robbie on the gay orgy in The Wolf of Wall Street “Who knows how and why and who you pick as your friends, but it's usually me and all my lovely, dear gay friends that I've had forever.” – Melissa McCarthy
Mitchell Haaseth/NBC
“At the time, there was that kind of question when you'd go into the audition: 'Are you comfortable kissing a guy?' 'Yeah, of course.'” – Justin Theroux on playing gay in the late '90s
“I was always me, but I didn't always own it. And when I owned it, that's when I found that I was my strongest.” – Adam Rippon
“However you de ine yourself or don't de ine yourself, you should be able to do that with total freedom.” – Antoni Porowski, Queer Eye star
“There are people on all spectrums of human behavior in the gay community, just like there are people on all spectrums of human behavior in the straight community, so I nix that and I say 'bye' to that – I say, 'bye, Felicia!' – because that doesn't make any sense to me.” – Sean Hayes on dismissing those who say Jack is too lamboyant 42

“If you're queer, your subjectivity is not in the margins – its front and center for the life you're leading. But mainstream stories have pushed queer stories into the margins of storytelling…” – Rachel Weisz, star of two lesbian-led ilms this year, Disobendience and The Favourite.
“I have to say I loved him, so I felt it was on me to shift my thinking and it was up to me to understand him.” – Viola Davis on getting acquinated with the LGBTQ community through her friend Slim
“So, the thought of going to a program like the one in the ilm at that crucial, vulnerable moment and being told, 'No, this is 100 percent back on you, and you're illing a God-shaped hole in your life with these tendencies' was one of the most harmful and hurtful things that I can imagine.” – Troye Sivan on his role in Boy Erased.

J.Mark’s has been a staple on the South Florida cuisine scene since the Pompano location was birthed by partners Ariel Ayala and Steven Koch in 2007. Fast forward to 2010, when the second location in Ft. Lauderdale joined the thriving family. J. Mark’s interior is cozy and well done, but not overly formal. Dress up or dress down…your choice.

Either way, you will feel comfortable and welcomed by their attentive, gracious staff. I had the opportunity to sit down with Ariel and Steven the week before Christmas for a private preview of the new menu that started the very next day. Over time, Ariel and Steven have taken customer feedback and tweaked the menu but never to this scale.
J.Mark’s Pompano 1490 NE 23rd St Pompano Beach, FL 33062 Ph 954-782-7000 From the wine list to appetizers and entrees, everything has been freshened up...and baby, is it fabulous! The all-new wine list with higher quality wines rolled out at the beginning of November to their loyal clientele’s delight. Almost every wine served is available by the bottle or the glass, which is very rare in our market.

Their expansive specialty cocktail menu is a big hit with offerings such as the J.Mark’s Margarita and Mango Margarita, both served “up” with house made sour mix. Be sure not to miss the deliciously refreshing Watermelon Martini with muddled fresh watermelon and Stoli O…my personal favorite! A selection of Champagne cocktails and various flavored Mojitos round out this extensive list. I tried all of the new and some of the classic favorites and left a little heavier for the experience. The new Guacamole and Chips gives a nod to our South Florida Latin culture by losing the “chips” and featuring plantain strips in their place. Succulent jumbo lump crabmeat is available to top the already decadent Spinach Artichoke Dip. The new mussel’s appetizer is a star with the rich sauce of fresh tomatoes, garlic, shallots, white wine and marinara; I sopped up every drop with the side of crusty garlic toast! A trio of “Sliders” including Fried Green Tomatoes, Prime Rib or Ahi Tuna make a great appetizer or have one as a snack with a small side of fries during “Happy Hour.”
Standouts in the entrée department included the slightly spicy Shrimp New Orleans with blackened shrimp, Andouille sausage, sautéed mushrooms, peppers and onions served in a Cajun cream sauce with white rice. I also loved the (almost all crab, no filler) Crab Cake entrée served with spicy remoulade and tartar sauces and a creamy coleslaw. J.Mark’s rivals some of the finest steakhouses in town with Certified Angus Beef, aged 2845 days and hand cut and trimmed in house steaks and burgers. A 10oz filet or New York Strip with a side of exotic mushrooms or red
peppercorn sauce are the tops in this category. You can’t go wrong with any of the burgers served on a sweet brioche bun and garnished with thin cut and fried onion rings. On the weekends, join the nice folks at J.Mark’s for brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm and devour the new Croissant Benedict, washed down with $3 Mimosas or spicy Blood Marys. J.Mark’s huge attention to detail, use of quality ingredients, and their willingness to listen to their guests’ feedback have made both of these locations a success and will ensure a long future!

legislative periods, being the seat of the vice president different from that of the president. The Parliament is in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while the seat of the Government Delegation is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and there is also a Sub-delegation of the Government in each of the two cities. Also, there is a balance between the two capitals in terms of counseling centers and public institutions although the rest of the regional administration is almost completely duplicated between both cities. Daily Habits That You Can Kick to the Curb in 2019
I
t's pretty much a given that smoking, drunk driving and eating too much fried food can kill you. However, there are other daily habits that are just as nasty, and equally as lethal, too. Which one(s) on this list do you have, and why not make 2019 the year to kick bad habits to the curb? Not making enough time for family and friends can take years off your life. People are social beings meant to form and thrive in relationships. Sure, no family is perfect, and yes, friends can sometimes disappoint you, but engaging with people can bring joy and satisfaction beyond measure. If your work schedule is so frenetic that you can't make time to socialize, then it's time to revise and reprioritize your life.
Too much worrying can lead to all kinds of health problems. Such events as loss of a job, death of a loved one, or a serious health crisis are certainly life occurrences that cause worry and anxiety. However, fretting over little details in daily life (i.e., a co-worker who's always late,
a boyfriend who leaves dishes in the sink, etc.) are really a waste of time. Carrying too much stress can increase your blood pressure which causes heart disease. In addition, stress can make you moody, cranky, and unpleasant to be around. Constantly comparing yourself to others is a lesson in futility. Thanks to social media bombarding us every minute, people are constantly posing, posting, exposing and bragging about themselves. It's hard not to feel inferior or “left behind sometimes. Take a break from that screen. Take stock in who you are, be thankful for your gifts and accomplishments and take every opportunity to be good to yourself.
Using any form of medication, even over the counter meds can lead you into dangerous territory. Taking pain killers when you don't
need them can result in opioid addiction, which is a grave issue in this country. Instead of taking something to relax you after a trying day, take a walk with your pet or a good friend. Never use old, expired prescriptions or someone else's medicine. Not getting enough sleep is a recipe for all kinds of problems. A good night's sleep (7-9 hours) is as important to your health as exercising and healthy eating. Sleep is the body's way of renewing itself; when you don't get enough, it can interfere with your digestive system, immune system, and mental health. Lack of sleep can also lead to weight gain and put you at greater risk for colds and flu. Stop sitting so much. Whether you're at work sitting in front of a screen, or at home in front of the TV binge watching your favorite series, a sedentary life will kill you. At work, get up every half hour and stretch and move around. At home, do crunches and stretches on the floor or over an exercise ball while watching your shows.

11 ITEMS IN YOUR ATTIC That Might be Worth Big Bucks! Attic treasures are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Many of us are living more efficiently with less clutter lying around the house and barely any room for additional storage anyway. I've never even opened the hatch to the attic in my house – mostly because that horror-movie-waiting-to-happen can stay locked away for eternity for all I care.
1
1. Sterling Silver and Enameled Metal Pieces
While silver and gold fluctuate in price on the markets, they'll never not be valuable. And since sterling was relatively cheap back in the day, it's feasible that your family could have a few pieces that demand a pretty penny. “For pieces that retain their value over time, look to precious metal antiques including sterling silver flatware, tea sets, and also enameled metal pieces like Cloisonné and Champleve,” advises Michael de Bondt, an antique buyer and estate sales dealer in Sarasota, Florida. “Because of the workmanship and level of quality in these items, they can be worth money for decades or longer and remain more stable than trending antiques and collectibles.”
94 | Hotspots.LGBT
Yet while younger generations don't have a need or desire to take advantage of attic space – if they even have it – our parents and grandparents were basically functioning hoarders with potential treasures. What sort of bounty is tucked away up there? Take a look at these 11 items in your attic that might be worth big bucks.
2 3 4
2. Far East Antiques
De Bondt adds that Far East antiques also hold their value for a long time. “The hottest items now that people might have lurking in attics from grandma's parlor are Asian pieces,” he says. “We especially like Chinese snuff bottles, antique urns and bronze pieces.”
3. Musical Instruments
“Any musical instrument can have huge value, but especially guitars,” explains David Kalt, founder and CEO of Reverb.com, an online marketplace for guitars and gear. He says, for instance, that popular guitars from the 1960s could be attic treasures, including vintage Fender, Gibson and acoustic guitars.
4. Obsolete Electronics
As reported by Mashable, even the most outdated electronic devices are sought after, like the Imagination Machine that pulled in $900 on eBay. But even if you don't have littleknown vintage electronics, you can still cop a decent amount of green with your old Nintendo items, like a 20-year-old Super Nintendo game that sold for $81; dusty and totally defunct Betamaxes; and Apple products, like the Apple II+, which commanded $102 at eBay auction.
5
5. Childhood Toys & Games
Kevin Bernhard, owner of Rust-and-Shine vintage and handmade market in Baltimore, reveals that sales for vintage toys and game boxes are especially healthy. “Most people think they are trash, but people buy them to reunite a toy with its original packaging, or just use it as art,” he says. Another decent moneymaker is the fast food and cartoon character collector glassware from the 1980s. “With '80s kids now having disposable income, they are being bought up like crazy. There's just something fun about drinking an adult beverage out of a glass that you used to sip apple juice out of,” says Bernhard. “Another favorite are stuffed animals from the '80s and early '90s. Alf, Teddy Ruxpin and My Buddy dolls fly off the shelves.”
6
6. Coins
Most coins will always be worth their face value – even if that has diminished over the years thanks to inflation. But some coins, especially rare ones in excellent condition, far exceed their original value. The same goes for paper money, too, which isn't uncommon to find in attics previously owned by war-era families and veterans. There are several options on where to sell your coins and cash – like to a coin shop, physical auction, and an online auction or marketplace – but first you should have the value appraised by a reputable source.
7
7. Vintage Magazines & Newspapers
On eBay, a lot of 11 vintage Seventeen magazines from 1961 and '62 sold for nearly $50, while a single issue of Vogue magazine from April 15, 1968, was up to $36.99 from nine bids on eBay four days before its auction expiration.
96 | Hotspots.LGBT
8. Costume & Designer Jewelry
“Signed pieces of designer jewelry are often a great place to find value: Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Raymond Yard, David Webb – all these brands have been around for decades, and in some cases over a century,” says Anup Jogani, founder and CEO of Jogani Beverly Hills, a dealer in antique and vintage gems and jewelry. “Finding a piece with one of these iconic signatures means a good payday coming your way.”
8
9
9. Comic Books
A quick look on eBay revealed a few heavy hitters, like a lot of 1,712 Gold, Silver and Bronze Age Avengers #1 comic books approaching $7,200 with one day left on bidding; The Amazing Spider-Man #6 from November 1963 bid at $163.50; and a The Brave and the Bold title from 1955 at $128.50 with five days to go.
10. Furniture
Reader's Digest suggests consulting Kovels' Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide to establish your bearings in the vintage and antique furniture world, while paying particular attention to Stickley Mission Oak, Arts and Crafts, and Heywood-Wakefield brands. Items that might seem like a boon but are really a bust include 1920s and '30s dining sets that are reproductions of 16th- and 17th-century pieces. “They look like they came out of a castle,” dealer J. Michael Flanigan told Reader's Digest, “but they were produced by the tens of thousands out of places like Grand Rapids.”
11
11. Sports Trade Cards
Considering the amount of time that's passed and the number of sports trading cards that may be hidden away in the attic, you could have a nice chunk of change coming your way. ‘Upper Deck has a beginners guide on how to start sorting through your cards before you approach a shop on the actual retail value.

need ADVICE
By Andreus Quinones
Struggling to Stay Dear Andreus, I have fallen in love with my best friend's ex-boyfriend. They dated over 10 years ago, and we became friends while they were together. I never intended for it to happen, but we have the same social circles, and the more we bumped into each other, the more we connected. Although he is my best friend's ex, it has been 10 years. Should it matter if we date? I don't want to lose my best friend over this. How do I handle this? Sincerely,
hung up on having or seeking the perfect body. However, my boyfriend over the last couple of years has put on a significant amount of weight. He is bordering obesity, and it is a bit of a physical turn off. I must admit it is affecting our sex life, and I have indirectly said things to him about his excessive eating habits. I love him dearly, but I am at my wits end. How can I get him to see what his eating is doing to us? Sincerely,
Fallen Friend
Struggling To Stay
Dear Fallen Friend, Wow! This is not an easy situation at all. Love is one of those things that of course is hard to deny when it comes, at the same time, true friendship is priceless. The very first thing that you need to do is talk to your best friend. Be completely honest and transparent. The fact that your best friend had a relationship or some type of romantic or emotional involvement with the person, means that out of respect and decency, you owe your friend honesty. There is no way to tell how is going to take it. Figure out if you are going to be able to pursue a relationship without it jeopardizing your friendship, and how important each of these are versus the other. Only you can decide. If need be, the three of you might need to sit and talk so that some type of balance can be created. All I can say, is good luck.
Dear Struggling To Stay, Stop and take a breath. Your relationship can be saved. This often happens in relationships, and is either a sign of happiness and comfort, or a sign of stress. Be honest with him, but don't attack him with your concerns. No one likes to be called fat or obese, or reminded that they don't look like the man you met in the beginning. What you can do though, is actively help him. Go walking together or jogging together every day. Go to the gym together. Engage in activities together, which is not only a healthy choice for you both but might encourage him to lose weight because he has positive reinforcement. Placing blame never gets anyone to change, so be his motivation. Also if you have any input into the food that comes into your home or if you cook, look for healthier options, and lay out portioned meal times. Things will get better!!
Dear Andreus, I have never been superficial, or one to be
