Later that night we split up. Some of us went down to South Beach to hang out at Hotel Gaythering for their Saturday night party, which was fun and packed. Lots of cute guys.

Some of us stayed in Fort Lauderdale and went to the

Ramrod for Pig Dance #125 with DJ Doug Jackson, which as usual was filled with Leather guys and their admirers.

On Sunday, was Flip Flops' January T-Dance hosted by Amanda Austin with DJ Robert Lavalle spinning and this month's special guests: Cathy Craig, Dominique Taylor and Starlet Skye. Seen at this packed monthly event were the boys with boats!

s it because we're all swimming together in the toxic Trump pool that makes every new addition to the LGBTQ cultural canon feel like an act of rebellion? Probably. But even if we were living in a queer-friendly political era, 2018's (they're calling it #20GayTeen on the Internet, just FYI) pop culture output would still be impressive. And not just among ourselves – the mainstream took notice and we didn't have to dilute or code ourselves to make a splash there. The receipts: 10. Haley Kiyoko was MTV's Push Artist of the Year at the 2018 VMAs. Do you know her yet? You will when you go watch her video for “What I Need,” which features queer singer Kehlani. Then you'll wonder why this story of young women running away to be together wasn't a featurelength film. Neither of these young ladies came to play, and you'll soon be seeing and hearing more from both.

9. Here for lesbian drama: Disobedience with Rachel 20 | Hotspots.LGBT

skills than Mid90s, Lizzie had the best violent attack on the patriarchy, and The Favourite had the fanciest, iciest, ladyon-lady seduction in the

8. Listen, we still like Queer Eye even if we think Tan's fashion advice is a bit too transparently product placement for Bonobos and overly reliant on shirts that are only half tucked in (don't blame France for it, dude). We're into Jonathan's gleefully defiant attack on the masc4masc aesthetic. All day. Every day. 7. About a transgender woman going for and getting everything she knows she

Leslie Jordan EXPOSED

At the Sunshine Cathedral as art of Outlandish Performance Series By: Scott Holland eslie Jordan is one of the most consistently recognizable faces in popular entertainment. His journey towards stardom has provided one of the quirkier,

impressive, and varied career trajectories of the past few decades. His arrival in Hollywood back in 1982 (with $1500 sewn into his clothing by his steel magnolia Mother) was the starting

to remain “current” and “relevant” in a rapidly changing world of technological advancement, and the ever present threat of being put “out to pasture” by a youth obsessed culture and industry.

Through it all, Leslie Jordan has remained constant, relevant and – above all – funny! His ability to take it all in stride has kept him moving onward, upward and forward!

Leslie Jordan is the prestigious Emmy Award winner in 2006 for “Will & Grace”. He has enjoyed rapturous reviews for his original stage plays (“My Trip down the Pink Carpet”, “Stories I can't tell Mama”, “Fruit Fly”), and supporting presence in one of Hollywood's most prestigious, message-minded ilms of the last decade (“The Help”, 2012).

point. After a brief career as a jockey, Jordan has enjoyed the full show-business spectrum; the lean days, the bumps in the road, the acclaim, reaching the pinnacle of television performing with award recognition, the ensuing victory laps, followed by an alarming and unexpected down slope, the dangers of being type cast or stereotyped, the challenges

In 2017, Leslie Jordan again sparred with his lovable nemesis “Karen Walker” as a guest actor in the triumphant return of NBC's “Will & Grace”, and is currently starringr alongside comedy heavyweights Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence, and David Alan Grier in the new comedy series “The Cool Kids.”

It was a pleasure to sit down with Leslie Jordan for this exclusive Hotspots interview just

weeks before his appearance at The Sunshine Cathedral as part of the Outlandish Performance Series. Were you always a ham/performer even as a child or when did the bug bite you? I was always funny but it was to keep the bully's at bay. I was 27 and I was exercising race horses since I was 19, and I thought I don't have a future here, so I went back to school. I was going to study journalism, but everyone said to take the intro to theater arts elective, so I did. The irst day we did Improv and it hit me like a drug that this is what I want to do. I got a degree in theater and I had $1,500 and took a bus and went to Hollywood. What was your irst professional/paid gig as a performer? My aunt Marie who did the windows of Millers Brothers (Dept store). In the summer time I would dress up as Mickey Mouse. My irst real acting gig was a commercial for Aunt Jemima syrup. I did a lot of commercials, I was like Flo from the insurance commercials.

You have traveled the world. Is there a favorite city or concert hall you performed in and why? I always loved San Francisco, I played a couple of venues there. I also love London. Lily Tomlin produced a Trip down the Pink Carpet for me and we did 12 weeks there. English audiences are very quiet and wonderfully polite. You have to earn their laughter.

How did you get cast on Will & Grace and is it as fun to ilm as it looks? It is as fun. You have 4 actors who have theater backgrounds who know how to perform, and we shoot in front of an audience. So you get the best of all worlds. Each of them are generally funny and having such a wonderful time. I auditioned for the role and believe it or not, it had been written for Joan Collins. Do you remember how it felt when you won the EMMY for Will & Grace? It was so out of left ield, and I didn't think I

was going to win, but it felt so good. I thought known each other for years, they have a brojobs would come to me after winning, but I mance going. Producer Mark Cortale has

announced that his internationally acclaimed Broadway @ concert series, hosted and music directed by Sirius XM Radio star Seth Rudetsky, will return to the Broward Center's Parker Playhouse with four of Broadway's hottest stars in early 2019. First, Jessie Mueller, a Tony Award winner for Beautiful - The Carole King Musical and Tony-nominee in Sarah Bareilles' Waitress, will kick-off the season on Saturday, January 12 at 8 PM. Next, London's Phantom stars reunite as Sierra Boggess, Broadway's original Ariel in The Little Mermaid and a frequent Christine DaaĂŠ in Phantom of the

Opera and its sequel Love Never Dies will join forces with Ramin Karimloo, the Tony & Olivier Award Nominee and star of Broadway's Anastasia, Les MisĂŠrables and London's The Phantom of the Opera, on Friday, February 8 at 8 PM. And, ending the season with an exclamation point will be Adam Pascal, star of the original Broadway cast of Rent, and the film version, as well as the Broadway hits Chicago, Memphis, and the revival of Cabaret, on Sunday, March 24 at 7 PM. The unique format of the series that differentiates it from any other is a seamless mix of intimate behind-the-scenes stories

prompted by Rudetsky's insightful, funny and revealing questions - and the music from the artists' stellar careers. The result is spontaneous evenings of show-stopping songs and hilarity. The Broadway @ Series was first launched at Provincetown's Art House Theater in 2011 by Cortale and Rudetsky and now makes its home in more than a dozen major venues worldwide. It was a pleasure to sit down with Jessie, just a couple weeks before her performance here in South Florida.

Seth Rudetsky

When did performing start for you? I didn't really start performing until I was in High School. I didn't rhave the opportunities until then.

What was your first Broadway role, and how exciting was it to get on a Broadway stage? My first role was in the revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever with Harry Connick Jr. It was thrilling, and I remember sitting in the theater and the director looked at me and said take this in, it's really cool, isn't it‌it was the St. James Theater.

How did you get cast as Carole King in Beautiful? I first had a meeting with director Mark Bruni, the writer, and producer, and then I had 2 rounds of auditions. Shortly afterwards I got the call I was cast. I was very fortunate to get cast so easily.

Can you take me back and tell me how it felt (do you remember?) when you heard your name called to win the Tony? Yes, I do remember how it felt. It was in shock, and awe and delight all at once. It felt like a jolt because no matter what you do to prepare yourself, you are not prepared to hear your name. I squeezed my partner Andy's hand, and then I was concentrating on not tripping on my large dress. It felt very surreal and yet I felt very present.

What has been your favorite role to play and why? I really don't think I can pick one. I have had so much fun.

What is your fantasy role to play? I really feel like I don't have one right now as I feel so fortunate in the roles I have gotten to play. I think it's the one I don't know of yet. However, down the road I would love to play Mamma Rose or Dolly Levi.

Describe yourself in 3 words? Silly, loving, and thoughtful.

What does the future hold for you?

I don't know, but I would like to spend more time with the people I love and am looking forward to unexpected opportunities. I would also like to live in a world with people that are more peaceful and understanding.

Why should our readers come out to see you in the Broadway Concert Series? I just want to work with people I enjoy and Seth is definitely one of those people. This show, with Seth, has that special spark, and anything can happen. It is so much fun playing off of him. I enjoy watching people have fun and that's what this concert is to me. Come-on out and enjoy our concert of fun that we are going to have for like 2 hours. I promise you won't regret it. We are so pumped to come down south Florida!

Tony Award Winning Show

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

Comes to Arsht Center

By: Scott Holland Zoetic Stage and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of MiamiDade County are proud to present The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NightTime, Simon Stephens' Tony Awardwinning adaptation based on Mark Haddon's best-selling novel. Playing January 17-February 3, in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Zi Ballet Opera House), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time continues Zoetic Stage's 20182019 season at the Arsht Center as part of the Center's Theater Up Close Series.

Directed by Stuart Meltzer, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time tells the story of ifteen-year-old Christopher, a young man who is exceptionally intelligent

but not well equipped to deal with everyday life. When he falls under suspicion for killing his neighbor's dog, he sets out to identify the true culprit, which leads to an earth-shattering discovery that will change his life. This is an incredible journey to the world of a very special mind.

The cast includes: Stephen G. Anthony, Ryan Didato, Niki Fridh, Margery Lowe, Michael Mckeever, Zack Myers, Rachel O'hara, Gretchen Porro, Barbara Sloan, and Seth Trucks. It was a pleasure to sit down with Ryan, who plays the lead role of Christopher Boone, for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing, and how did it happen?

I started when I was 13 in 8th grade, because I was terrible at sports and I needed a dierent after school activity.

How did you get cast in this Production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NightTime? Last year I was doing the world premiere of Wrongful Death at Zoetic and they said they had plans to do this show. I have dreamed for a long time to be a part of this play, and I asked to play any role. About a month later they emailed me and asked if I would play the lead.

Knowing that the production on Broadway won many awards including the Tony for Best Play and Best actor in a Play, is there additional pressure on you? There is pressure, but not form the fact that it won so many accolades. The pressure comes from a play that you love and doing it justice. There is also pressure to do the character justice.

Other than this role, what has been your favorite to play? My favorite role was in The Red by John Logan. This play was about Mark Rothko the painter and I stared in that at the Gable Stage. I love art and, it was right up my alley. What is your fantasy role? To be in a musical, but I am so terrible at dancing

and singing it will never happen, and that's probably for the best. I admire people that could do all that.

What should our readers expect from this production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NightTime?

You should expect it to not be like any other production you have ever seen of Curious. Stuart Meltzer brings a dierent take on the show. And if you haven't seen it before, it's a very touching play, and it's a very exciting journey to take with Christopher.

Tickets to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time are $50 & $55*; and may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center Box Of ice by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at Arshtcenter.org Hotspots.LGBT | 57

Someday, if we're lucky, we might get a full performance of Nicholas Hoult in a fluffy wig, his cheeks powdered and painted pink, with heeled feet, all the while vivaciously lipping Beyoncé's “Hold Up.” Give the people what they want, I say. And for 13 gloriously gay seconds in November on his Insta he did. Without even having to ask for it, we were blessed by Hoult and his perky brows serving Bey realness. “I wasn't prepared to see this on my feed,” one commenter wrote. Actor James McAvoy couldn't resist chiming in: “When I grow up...I want to be inside your wig.” Hoult loves Beyoncé, which makes him seem a lot like you and me (the choppy international cell reception when he calls me in America from the U.K. further cultivates his everyman-ness). 60

| Hotspots.LGBT

And wigs? He must love them enough to wear three of them in his new film The Favourite, all of which were given divine lady names: Babs, Lulu and Hattie. The role isn't gay in any obvious way, but because the 18th century is long over and men's hair has deflated considerably in the 300 years since and he wears heels, this could arguably pass as the 29-year-old Brit's closest encounter to drag yet. Flawless is the only way Beyoncé could possibly describe his performance in The Favourite, and she must have loved his tender heart in Tom Ford's 2009 film A Single Man, portraying Colin Firth's maybe-gay lifeline, Kenny; of course she wanted to pinch his chubby pre-teen cheeks in 2002's About a Boy (who didn't?); and no way Bey didn't appreciate the queer allegory of 2013's zombie

rom-com Warm Bodies. Given how deliciously cheeky he is in director Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite as the foppish Robert Harley, an earl who frolics around Queen Anne's royal court as Anne (Olivia Colman) becomes the object of two women's (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz) ruthless affection, wigs will be snatched.

Are you already planning your next lip-sync? (Laughs) Yeah, I've got a whole back catalog, so it's just in terms of when they're released.

Now, The Favourite: Harley has been described as “effeminate.” Is that what you were going for? I don't think so. Because of the fashion of the era, the guys at that time were in the era of makeup and wigs and high heels and canes and

Photos by Fox Searchlight

As great as you are in “The Favourite,” perhaps your best performance to date was posted to Instagram on November 21: a Beyoncé lip-sync. (Laughs) Thank you. Yes, it was. A fine moment. I actually did that the year before but I had to wait until the movie was out to release it. Yeah, that was in my trailer before I got onto set.

And you picked Beyoncé's “Hold Up” as your song? That was all you? Yes, yes, it was all me. We released one behind-the-scenes of X-Men, dancing and stuff a couple of years ago, and then there's this one. That Beyoncé song is how I felt, so I got into this character's makeup and costume. (Laughs)

Is Beyoncé your gay icon?

lots of frills. But the character seemed quite manipulative and dry and, pathetically, a bit of a bully, and kind of playing a chess game with the other characters within the court.

Considering the costume, do you have a greater appreciation for what drag queens have to go through? I guess so – just anybody who has to wear high heels. I know the pain of wearing those now.

One of your wigs was named Barbara, Babs for short. Which one was she? Babs was the main wig, and the larger of Harley's personalities. She was the white, curly wig with two horns on top. She was the most delicious wig. Hattie was the more serious, white frilly wig, and then Lulu was the rambunctious, red wig.

I wish I could move like that.

Something tells me you've seen a drag queen or two in your lifetime – or have maybe watched some “RuPaul's Drag Race?”

Don't we all.

You know what, I haven't seen it before. I've

gotta tune into it at some point because I've got everyone telling me it's a good one, so I will watch that. Maybe I could be a judge on it or something sometime.

I think you could be a contestant at this point. Yes, a contestant.

I think you've already auditioned. It's this movie. Exactly, I'll send it in. That's why I did it.

When were you first aware of the LGBTQ audience? I don't really see any audience as different, particularly, to be honest with you. I'm just telling stories that I like and then playing characters that I'm interested in. When I'm making things, I'm not picking depending on the audience. However, that's really nice of you to say that I've got that following. That's lovely. I guess that would go back to Skins or A Single Man, perhaps.

You played Tony Stonem in BBC's British teen drama Skins, which ran from 2007-2013. How do you reflect on shooting that brief fling you had with Mitch Hewer's Maxxie? I thought he was such an odd character to play at times. There were some similarities between him and Harley, I guess. He's a fascinating character, a tricky one, and he's a lot of fun to play. A nice change from what I'd been doing up until that point, work-wise.

traits and how he fit into that group.

How do you reflect on portraying Kenny in A Single Man? That role was beautiful to shoot because Tom Ford is a brilliant director. Working with Colin and doing those scenes ... it was just really beautifully written. And Tom's understanding of each character. So, it was a great feeling to be in that world.

Did you notice more acknowledgement from the LGBTQ community after it was released? Yeah, I think so. For me, it's always that thing that telling stories gotta be from the moment, and that story is so heartbreaking in terms of the romance of it and the love of it. I think a lot of people can relate to that and the difficulties, and the world has changed to the positive in terms of that. But again, I do the work and then it goes off and lives its own life.

You never revisit these roles? No, I never go back and revisit, to be honest with you. Even you mentioning these things now, it's difficult for me to drudge up the memories because I kind of take what I'm focusing on in that present moment, or planning the next one. But it's nice to reflect occasionally.

How so?

How have the gay and queer roles you've played spoken to you?

Everything up until that point was fairly, perhaps, “nerdy guy and this was someone who was quite alpha in his personality and

Both of those roles they were exploring, definitely. And fighting for a place, I'd say. They were lonely and felt displaced and they didn't

have a community, or they felt misunderstood. With those characters – well, not Tony, but certainly for Kenny in A Single Man. And Tony, it's much different; he kind of has more power.

How does your character Mark, who's gay, in the 2009 West End production of New Boy compare? He was a different character because he was younger and he couldn't understand his own feelings, and that made him funny but also someone who would be quite venomous, occasionally. And yeah, that character was at the turning point of discovering his sexuality.

seeking out roles that may push that movement forward? Obviously you want to be part of things that are relevant, if possible, but mostly you just want to tell good stories. You can't always determine the effect that something is going to have or the place it's gonna fill when the end-product comes out. You just try to work with the right people and tell stories you find interesting.

If you were caught in a gay love triangle with a king and his longtime secret lover and his secret lover's cousin, who'd be playing the other roles?

Does playing a gay role come with a different sense of responsibility for you?

It'd be people I look up to acting-wise: It'd be Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix.

No, I feel responsible for every character, regardless. When (I'm) playing real characters, I feel more of a responsibility, but otherwise no.

I guess so in that scenario, yeah. Christian's probably the king, right?

Of those roles, is one more significant to you than the others?

And you'd be the cousin? I believe Batman has to be the king. Always.

No, I don't think so. They all mesh somewhat, I would say. You're inhabiting these characters and their feelings as best as possible for that time, so each one is significant at that time.

After “A Single Man,” did an influx of gay roles come your way? Not necessarily. I get sent quite varied things anyway because of the variety I've tried to play, so it varies hugely. I don't think I saw an increase at that point, no; but perhaps an increase in roles in terms of stories being told that are more inclusive. You see more and more stories, and that's just a sign not necessarily of me having done that but more the times – that things are changing, and it's becoming represented better.

“The Favourite” is being celebrated for being so queer-inclusive. When you're a part of a project that means something to a particular group of underrepresented people, does that feel different for you than doing something more mainstream like, say, “X-Men?” It's like, you just see them as characters, as people and very good actresses. People keep mentioning that (it's queer) or that it has female leads and it's kind of surprising and disconcerting that it's even a conversation as this point. It's almost like we should have – I mean, it's great that the conversation is happening and that these movies are getting made more and more, but it should be up to the point where it's completely normal and it's not even something that people have to keep feeling is unusual.

Are you encouraged to be part of the movement by

I'm just telling stories that I like and then playing characters that I'm interested in.”

MASS RESISTANCE

J

ust about every LGBTQ person has a story about something that confirmed for them that they were LGBTQ. For me it was Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. That is, you might say, my root. For the next generation of LGBTQ folks their root will be Drag Queen Story Hour at their local library. A whole host of kids who would have otherwise been 100 percent heterosexual and have a rigidly traditional masculine or feminine gender identity that matches 100 percent with their genitals will now grow up to be some variety of gender nonconforming homo. Ugh, and they'll probably love books and reading, too. Thankfully a group that calls itself Mass Resistance is rising from the depths to defeat the drag queen story hour menace and make sure children are trained up to be bigots just like them. Yes, I used the "B" word, which I know Mass Resistance would take offense to. As they write on their website, “It's becoming common for the media or left-wing public officials attempt to marginalize any group of people who oppose the liberal agenda and support religious values by publicly calling them a 'hate group.'” MR calls this “childish and offensive.” Well, I call Mass Resistance a hate group. And I'd love to attend a Drag Queen Story Hour. Call me childish, I guess. Mass Resistance's latest focus is on Michigan, my home state, where they are forming a chapter. And MR has a pretty interesting view of how LGBTQ friendly Michigan is. “The LGBT Movement has been plowing ahead at the local level, and even the state-level in Michigan,” the MR website reads. “Republican party members have developed a pro-gay

attitude and even reach out to 'gay' groups, we've been told. Sadly, this even includes former Michigan GOP Chair and current Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.” So Michigan Republicans are on some kind of pro-equality mission” I think someone forgot to tell them. I've lived in Michigan my whole life and I can tell you that the GOP isn't pro-LGBTQ, and Betsy DeVos sure isn't leading any pride parades. “Thankfully,” the MR website continues, “Michigan profamily activists have held back most of these changes, but as is happening across the country, the homosexualtransgender ideology is still making headway on the Wolverine State.” Case in point: Mass Resistance's first target: shutting down Drag Queen Storytime at the Huntington Woods Library. “Drag Queen Storytime captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models,” the library's website reads. “In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.” And the theme of storytime is “I Like Me Just the Way I Am!” Now, to me, this sounds amazing. But to the hateful folks at Mass Resistance, it sounds downright apocalyptic. “Drag Queen Story Hour is nothing more than a subtle push of the harmful and immoral LGBT ideas,” MR warns in a poorly written message. “This agenda is anti-family, anti-life, anti-biology, and it is coming for your children!”

A Weight Loss Battle Plan

Y

ou've put on weight during the holidays…so join the club! Stop fretting about it, denying it and trying to hide it. Hop on that scale, take a good look in the mirror and be honest. If you start fresh right now you can lose those pounds, feel better and stay healthier all year. Here are a few tips that are sure to start a fire under your weight loss program.

In order to lose weight, you've got to have a strategy that includes cardio, weights, and nutritional planning. Instead of thinking “diet” with its negative connotations, come up with an overall approach that includes sticking to sound nutritional principles. Keep a food journal and plan your meals. Doing regular cardio and weight training will help burn

calories and get your heart pumping. If you can't get out to walk or swim or hike for cardio, then get to the gym and ride the recumbent

bike or another machine twice a week for 20 minutes or so for starters. Lifting even light weights 3 times per week will help build more

lean muscle which burns more calories all the time even when you're at rest.

should be and how many calories you need daily. Change your outlook, believe you can shed those extra pounds and set your priorities accordingly.

Think before you eat! Mindless eating makes you fat. You grab a few pieces of chocolate from the stash in your desk because you're bored. You go to the drive through and chow down on burgers and fries because you're in a hurry. Unfortunately, such mindless indulgences add up to weight gain and all the serious health problems that come with it.

Drinking makes you fat. People who drink soda consume more sugar and calories. Booze Don't try to do too much all at once. It's isn't much better. One gram of alcohol is an unhealthy to lose more than 3 pounds per week empty 7 calories. Furthermore, it's very unless you're under a doctor's care. You've got common to eat more and make poor food to reduce your caloric, but starving yourself to choices after you've had a few. Losing weight drastically like this can cause your metabolism to plummet and you'll lose lean muscle as well as fat. As your metabolism wanes so will your stamina for exercise as well as all other daily activities. Your body will rebel by storing fat more easily. You'll also damage your heart with this type of radical yo-yo dieting.

The Frivolist By Mikey Rox

5 Tips to Becoming His Go-To Booty Call We've all had a random hookup we hope comes back for more. Maybe they look yum naked or throw down the good-good like Thor's magic hammer. Perhaps they give great post-bang convo or cuddle like an Olympic-level big spooner. Whatever's got you giddy for that one-time fling, here's how to turn it into a regular thing.

Be Available But Play It Cool If you're lucky enough to get a ping for a repeat session, act natural – and suppress your eagerness to respond immediately. Let the text sit for 15 to 30 minutes, then hit back that you're out with friends at the moment (people with active social lives are much more attractive than those loafing on the couch – to me at least), but suggest a time that you'll be home (even if you already are) an hour or two later. Yeah, playing this card may mean that the object of your ass-fection will move on to the next bro in line or be unavailable when you finally are, but this strategy allows you to pick up around your place and it gives you some measure of control from the onset since he'll recognize that you're not going to drop everything to get him back in your bed. If you're the one reaching out when you're thirsty, send one text and one text only. He got it – even if he hasn't responded. Don't get all Glenn Close about your non-relationship by blowing up his phone. Nothing makes people run for the hills faster than a creeper with boundary issues – no matter how big your d*ck or good in bed you think you are.

Keep Yourself and Your Digs Presentable

Show Your Interest, Not Your Desperation

I met a guy at a bar once that I got just drunk enough to go home with. I very rarely go to their place, and his spot was a perfect example why: Mattress on the floor, overflowing ashtrays next to the bed, the pungent smell of cat waste wafting through the barely furnished shanty. Totally turned me off. I couldn't jet quick enough. I expect that you don't have this problem – I assume most homos (even the younger ones) don't live in squalor – but if you look around your home and see anything that a guest might find offensive, like dishes piled high in the sink, pet hair everywhere, or a shit-stained toilet, clean it. Visitors deserve to come into a respectable situation, and failing to present yourself in a put-together manner basically says you don't give a fuck – about you or them.

If you've managed to get the dude in your bed on multiple occasions, good on ya; you're reaching pro status. But with that comes feelings a lot of times, and that scares some people. Don't catch emotions. Coyly let him know you're interested, but don't be desperate about it. Not the sex, not the “something more.” It may evolve into that one day, and you'll know if the sentiment is reciprocated (if you're self-aware, at least), but for now, go with the flow, let things happen, be easy-breezy, my friend. You'll both have more fun that way.

Be Awesome in Bed

Remind Yourself That This Is Casual

If you find yourself developing more than lust for your now-frequent bed buddy, step back and assess the situation. Were you looking for a significant other when this started? Has he expressed a similar interest in you? Are you two on the same page, or is this just you getting ahead of yourself? Will this ruin the good thing you have? And what's his deal? Is his life messy? Is he double-double toil and trouble? Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I'll be the first size-queen to tell you that you don't have to be hung like a college basketball player (only reason I watch the games; it's March Madness in my pants, y'all) to be a boss in bed. I've slept with a few men lacking manhood who more than made up for it with all the right moves. A solid bangarang is about confidence, self-awareness, focusing on your strengths (maybe your make-out game is strong and he loves to kiss), and giving that boy what he wants and needs times two. Ask what he likes and follow through. Just don't be weird, OK? Personally I'm turned off by someone who's overly aggressive and/or too panty – at least at first; we can work up to the kink – and neither of those firstf*ck habits will warrant a follow-up sesh. Play it safe (figuratively and literally) while building the foundation for anticipation of the next time. If it's memorable, they'll be back for more – guaranteed.

need ADVICE

By Andreus Quinones

Bruised Dear Andreus, Everything I knew of my relationship was just shattered this past Christmas. My boyfriend and I had dinner with our closest friends, and then went out for drinks. As the night progressed, I noticed that he was getting pretty wasted. In front of our friends, he started insulting me and telling me that I need to f*ck off and go home if I wanted to. When I finally did get him to go, it was a difficult ride home. When we arrived at home, I told him that I was embarrassed, and that I think he needs to be more responsible with his drinking. He turned around and punched me in the face. I never knew he could be violent, and now I don't know what to do. Sincerely, Bruised Dear Bruised, Seems like you have some serious decisions to make. My mother used to always tell me that alcohol was truth serum, and I tend to agree. When people start drinking, their filters drop, and they become much less inhibited. That is normally the time that you get the underlying persona. Verbal abuse is unacceptable, and physical abuse should not be tolerated. The moment that someone puts their hands on you, it should be a game changer. Most of the time, given the right circumstances, it will happen again. Anyone who truly loves you, and respects you, will find a civil way to resolve whatever issues there might be. Hitting someone, is a blatant and aggressive sign of control and disregard. Don't allow bruised to evolve into broken.

Dear Andreus, I am in an interracial marriage. I am Latino, and my husband is White. We love each other dearly. The issue is, his friends. Every time we all get together, or they come to our house, they start making jokes about Latinos. I have said something to my husband a couple of times about it, but he says that they are just playing. I find it offensive, and I am proud of who I am. How can I stop this? Sincerely, Proud Latino Dear Proud Latino, First let me say that you should be proud. Being Latino, no matter what country you represent, is a very rich culture, encompassing all types of mixes, colors and traditions. Personally, I can relate, as it even happens amongst other Latinos. I am Puerto Rican, but dark-skinned. My complexion always seems to be the focus of some humor, and it makes me uncomfortable. You have to teach people how to treat you. Let them know that you feel disrespected and to not do it again. Sometimes people don't know better, and if they do and find it humorous, then you have the right to put them in check. Also, if your husband loves you, he has a responsibility to tell his friends that it is disrespectful. The only way to stop it, is by taking action, one by one. All the best!
