On Saturday, my buddy, Jimmy Cohen had the Grand Opening of Jimmy Cohen's Men's Day Spa on the corner of Federal Highway and Oakland park Blvd (in the same plaza as the Culture Room). It was an incredible turnout with a line out the door of people waiting to get in. Congrats to Jimmy, Clint, and the entire Spa staff on a fabulous Grand Opening and wishing them many years of success! Also on Saturday, ArtsUnited held their annual Art Explosion ArtServe on Sunrise Blvd. There were over a hundred artists that showed their work (including our very own Stephen R Lang) The event also featured: an Erotic Show (for one night only) with live models and art pieces, Fashion Reaction with three

boy, but as a mainstream multiplex entry with very long legs (its budget was somewhere around $15 million and over its run raked in over 65) this teenage coming out and coming-of-age story was the sweet John Hughes-esque comedy Hollywood hadn't yet bothered to make. 4. They're a reminder that within the lifespan of most members of Generation X, the American public's perception of queer people has shifted in ways that make the word “dramatic” quite an understatement. 3. The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Boy Erased,
together, formed one solid movie about the toxic world of anti-gay Evangelical conversion camps for LGBTQ young people. Miseducation had a queer director in Desiree Akhavan, which informed the film's ability to
get the anxiety and power of teenage desire just right, but Erased, based on author Garrard Conley's lived experience in the church, dove deep into the terror and abuse of fundamentalist belief. See them both.
2. Janelle Monae's “PYNK” and its accompanying video served as a deliriously gorgeous and hypnotic ode to women of color – both cis and trans – loving other women of color, and it turned into a launching pad for best friends Monae and Tessa Thompson coming out, Thompson as bisexual and Monae as pansexual. If you're confused by the difference, there's always Google. 1. Pose on FX forever smashed ideas about how much trans is too much trans for one show. TV mogul Ryan Murphy stepped back, let transgender actors, writers and directors take over, and it made the show more true, heartfelt and emotional than we even dared to hope for. And over on Viceland, the documentary series My House went into the real 2018 ballroom scene and let audiences know exactly what has changed since Paris is Burning. Romeo San Vicente

uterine cancer survivor and the author of the best-selling book, "Cancer Schmancer." Drescher is now an outspoken health care advocate and LGBT rights activist, who has served as a Public Diplomacy Envoy for Women's Health Issues for the U.S. State Department. Funny girl Fran Drescher shares-in her unique voice-both poignant and hilarious stories of her life. An ordinary girl from Queens, Drescher threads together recollections, vivid stories and humorous characters, as well as memories of career, family and travel. And, don't forget "fat" Fran, "thin" Fran and "everything-inbetween" Fran. You'll laugh and cry as you enjoy a great schmooze-fest. It was a pleasure to sit down with Fran for this Exclusive Hotspots interview:
What was your irst professional/paid gig? I did extra work in New York to get into the union. Then my irst real job was a root beer commercial followed by a McDonald's commercial and then got lucky and got a part in the movie Saturday Night Fever.
How did you get cast in the Nanny? I created the show, and executive produced it with my partner Peter Jacobson. It was an amazing opportunity and something I am still very grateful for. Prior to that I did a pilot that didn't get picked up, so I decided to the South of France till next pilot season. I was the plane going to France
when the president of CBS walked in and I started to talk to him, and the rest was history. ..I am a carpe diem type of girl….I persuaded him to hear my brand of comedy…and the rest is history!
Did you know it would be a hit immediately or when did you realize that? It felt like we caught lightening in a bottle the night we shot the pilot. The audience totally got it even though they didn't know the characters. We weren't sure it would be a hit, but we knew we had something special. Surprisingly, the geographic areas the network was concerned about embraced the show irst. Are you still close with any of the cast of “The Nanny”? Yes I am actually having dinner tomorrow

Were you always an entertainer, even as a child, or when did it start? I think I always had an appreciation for “I Love Lucy” and entertainment, and always had fantasies of being famous and living a bigger life. However, it wasn't until I got into high school that I started being in plays and performing. I always enjoyed it but didn't have an outlet until high school.

night with Charles Shaughnessy and his wife and our executive team. We all keep in touch and I am very close to Renee Taylor. I just spoke to her 30 minutes ago.
I loved your show “Happily Divorced.” Was it cathartic to make? Yeah, but it was not totally real. When I wrote my book Cancer Shmancer that was very cathartic as that was super real. The series was a great way for Peter and I to get back into our groove of writing/producing partners. I like to do shows that are about something. Everybody has a wright to live an authentic life, and I was thrilled to have a show that was exploring a relationship that had not been explored on television before. I ran into the executives recently and they said it was a big mistake that they took Happily Divorced off the air. That made me feel good!
been in your life, and what made you become an advocate? Gay people have always been in my life. Once you get more enmeshed in the arts you become such good friends with all different people, and they become important to you. Gender and orientation blended. I was always the one that went the extra mile for the underdog, I think everyone should be treated equally. My dad used to always say ”It's nice to be nice.” Describe yourself in 3 words? Full of life.
What should our readers expect from your show “Schmoozing with Fran Dresher” I think they should expect all the colors of the rainbow. It's not a standup act but there will
How do you maintain such a close relationship with your ex? It's a commitment to do that, as it's not always easy. Its knowing when to say let's take a break, before an argument spins out of control. It's a very positive way to handle any kind of con lict. You have been such a strong supporter of LGBT rights. Has gay people always

Since you mentioned your book, Cancer Schmancer, can you tell me about the organization you started? CancerSchmancer.org is a very important and radical company and I encourage everyone to check us out and sign up, its free membership. Everyone must start realizing how you live equals how you feel. We are a nonpro it, and we are in the business of spreading the word…and letting people know what they are doing to drive their own poor health. Start looking at what you are putting in, on, and around you… Become the change that we so desperately need. We the consumer can dictate manufacturing trends….if everyone stopped drinking cola today they would stop making it tomorrow. The consumer wields all the power! be some stand up, it's not a Q&A Show but there will be Q&A, some things will be funny and some things touching. One thing it will be for sure is real. I hope that when the audience leaves they will know me better but also consider things for themselves, and how they look at life. I don't want to do an act, I want to do me. I tend to have a real authentic heartwarming experience with the audience.
Catch Fran in “Schmoozing With Fran Drescher” on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 8 pm, at the Sunshine Cathedral (1480 S.W. 9th Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets start at $50 at OutlandishFL.com. Premium seating and VIP tickets (including an artist meet-and-greet) are also available.

What does the future hold for you? I will continue to do writing and of course work with Cancerschmancey.org, I think I would like to consider downsizing my life and live a little smaller. I have on my bucket list to live in Europe for a bit. I also feel like I have another book in me. But the most important thing is that I continue to practice being present in my own life and living in gratitude. I am also working on having the courage to say “I'm Sorry” when I am wrong and speak with love even when I am angry.

Broward Bares It!, one of Fort Lauderdale's most off the wall, fun and sexy fundraising events returns for a 5th year on January 24, in a new home. The fundraiser, touted as a one night only traipse through the world of Tantalizing Temptations, Titillating Temptresses and Torrid Testosterone, and features local performers and community members, performing a night of burlesque, hot dance routines, and comedy. The theme for the event this year is “The Greatest Showman.” “This fundraiser began its run in 2010 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, they gave us a trial run by letting us hold it in one of their clubs” said Bill Huelsman, the event's producer, “The hard rock saw that the event was very successful and decided from then on that they would give us the Paradise Theater, which it ran in, to sold out audiences, for the next three years.

Tenemos nuestra historia, nuestra perspectiva, y
Storme ‘Delarverie siempre necesitamos a nuestros mayores, que saben cosas que no sabemos. Adora: Umm ... ..es por eso que voy y te llevo conmigo.
Adora: Did you see Teddy: Unity Coalition's TRANSART is at Villain Theatre in Little Haiti this year, they're going to have Jupiter Velvet, King Femme and actual workshops too; so there's stuff to do and to try out besides seeing performances and art? Teddy: Yeah. It's their 5th year already; on the weekend of January 26, 27. very special workshop with Storme ‘Delarverie, a Trans Pioneer who was actually at the historic Stonewall Riots back in 1969. Adora: Wow, OK…so I'm going to Aryah's Closet with stylist Robert Dee at 3pm on Saturday. They'll have clothes, accessories and style tips from Robert Dee; It's free, and you can bring donations too…maybe I'll bring some things I can't use anymore to pass along. At 4 I'll go to Storme's workshop; I'd love to hear firsthand about the Stonewall Riots. Teddy: Mmmmmmmm……. So cool….looks like Jupiter Velvet, King Femme, and a performer called Sensitive Black Hottie (very cute btw) are on Sunday starting at 8pm. The flyer says it's about the 'Vision and Possibilities within the transgender & gender non-conforming community. I love nonconformity…isn't that how we find out who we are and what unique aspects we have to offer…that's where art begins. Adora: Exactly, and where the fun begins too; including Jupiter's fab freckles, and those cheekbones…wow!! Hotspots.LGBT | 57
genre latino / Culturizate, Culturizame The flyer also says: 'brings together a collection of talents, individuals & artistic genres to create awareness, nurture aspiring artists and enlighten the general population about the many layers of this community.' I love layers of every type and stripe…and this really is a community with lots and lots of layers, of possibilities, of new ideas…and it's 2019, and I am so ready for some new ideas! Teddy Behr: Mmmm….Me Too! We need people who dare to be different, and especially when they have the courage and support to become the unique people they really are. And it's important for everyone,
because they make it easier for other people to experiment, and try things out, and to become who they need to be or want to be. It's exciting because with each generation we get new openings and a greater sense of freedom for everyone to move further along the path
of personal and social acceptance and freedom. I mean it's great we have lots of conventional people who pursue organizational careers and raise families, but every society needs it's creatives, it's nonconformists, and above all, it's innovators. TRANSART and other similar events encourage and validate what's different, and what just might turn out to be innovative too. And it's so cool they'll have Storme' from Stonewall Riots…We have our history, our perspective, and we always need our elders, who know stuff we don't. Adora: Umm…..that's why I'm going, and taking you with me!

MARGARET CHO
A HAND
Comedian talks new Asian-led kink series, queer sex and Hollywood homophobia By Chris Azzopardi Photos: Albert Sanchez.
Damn that bulging carpometacarpal joint. Without it, Margaret Cho's kink play could've been trouble-free, but nope – that thumb joint has been “the bane of my existence since 1991,” she tells me. That's right: I talked to Margaret Cho and we somehow landed on the topic of isting. These things happen! (They especially do if, like I did, you launch your convo with Cho by informing her that your introduction to the word “ isting” was via her early stand-up).
So, I was working in San Francisco at a lesbian BDSM collective making leather dildos and vaginas.” Clearly, our afternoon chat took many wild and sexually freewheeling turns when the trailblazing comic called to discuss executive producing Mercy Mistress, an Asian-led web series exploring BDSM through the relationship of its lead, a queer Chinese-American dominatrix named Mistress Yin (played by actress-activist Poppy Liu), and her new client. The series is based on sex-work activist and BDSM educator Yin Q's memoir. Dif icult digits aside, Cho discussed her intro to kink, diversity casting, what makes queer sex special and why Christian Grey should've been a sub.
You've long spoken openly about sex, sexuality and kink. Why is it important to you to talk about queer sex in your work? It's just another way to embellish identity. There are just ways of being ourselves, and when you're queer and you come out, you come out to a world where you kind of need to igure out who you are because the examples aren't out there for us. They aren't de ined. The lanes aren't so, like, obvious (laughs). So, you really need to create it. When I was growing up in the '80s and '90s we had to deal with AIDS, which was such a huge, dif icult monstrosity to get your head
around and also to understand what we could do sexually that was not luid bonded, so that's where bondage and BDSM – all that kind of stuff – really came into the culture in a very, very big way. So, I was working in San Francisco at a lesbian BDSM collective making leather dildos and vaginas. (Laughs)
I believe you're referring to Stormy Leather. Yeah. Way back when. And so I was just very interested in that world, and it just developed alongside everything. Now, BDSM is very mainstream with Fifty Shades of Grey and that kind of stuff, so it's cool. Is there a toy that you made that you were particularly proud of, like, “Hey, I did that”? No, because I wasn't designing them. It was more just the sheer number of ways you could make a strap-on. You could do a chin one, you could do a forehead one, like a unicorn. You could do a thigh one. I think the thigh one actually makes a lot of sense, ergonomically. It's actually better for the lower back than the traditional jockstrap harness.

had a major role in that, and in the digital age somebody like (erotica writer) Violet Blue, who's a good friend of mine. Also (former porn actress and sex-positive feminist) Nina Hartley, who is a very, very old friend of mine and really great. They're people who really just showed me the ropes, as it were. (Laughs)
Transitioning started in the '70s, which is an incredible thing if you think about how early this was. A strap-on that's easier on the lower back appeals to me as I get older. Yeah, you wanna make sure you can continue doing these repetitive movements. Strap-ons, there's a great appeal to them. They're really fun, and even if you're not necessarily in a queer sexual relationship, you could de initely use them in any way, shape or form. I think that it adds another element. If you can add another phallus, it's always a positive.
62
Regarding your own queer sex education, whose examples were you following while growing up in the '80s? (Sex-positive feminist author) Susie Bright | Hotspots.LGBT
Is Mercy Mistress a good introduction for somebody who doesn't know much about the kink world? Yeah, I think it's a great, great introduction. And also we're seeing Asian-Americans in a way we've never seen before, which I think is really incredible too. That's what I get really excited about. I think we've really gotten to this place that we're looking at diversity as something that is really necessary and really important, so I love that. And it really puts the control back into our hands, like we can actually control the narrative, as opposed to being an object; we're actually running the thing. That's really amazing.
How did you get involved as a producer? My company, Animal Family, is one of the producers. We got into contact with the Mercy Mistress people; they just really spoke to us, and we really loved what they were doing. We loved the landscape of the world they were showing. We loved everything. It just seemed like a natural it.
When did your interest in kink irst pique? Growing up in San Francisco around that era, queer politics was a very big deal. I grew up on Polk Street, which was really the epicenter; that and the Castro, where Harvey Milk was doing a lot of work. So I think being around all of that, it just seemed inevitable. My father owned a gay bookstore and he hired all these employees who were identifying in dierent ways, who were transitioning. Transitioning started in the '70s, which is an incredible thing if you think about how early this was. People
were transitioning, of course, before that, but that was the irst experience I have had with people who were deciding to de ine their own gender. I got hired at Stormy Leather and I started meeting trans men for the irst time. Before that it was just male-to-female trans women, but this was different, when it was female-to-male transition. That was a very big, eye-opening thing; it just gave female body sexuality so much agency, which I had never really experienced before, and I thought that was really amazing and powerful.
In recent years, the trans community has been given a greater mainstream platform. But as we know, and as you point out, transgender people have existed for a very long time. Yeah, it's been there; it's just that we as a society haven't looked to them, and yet they've changed and shaped culture for centuries. It's really been forever but we just didn't know.
I think the same can be said about the kink community in a way, don't you? It's something that's been there but we haven't explored it in a mainstream way.
And when we do, do we get it right? Did Fifty Shades of Grey get it right? Well, my feeling about Fifty Shades of Grey is, for the Christian Grey character, there's no way he could actually be a dominant. He has to be a male submissive. Usually men who are wealthy, in great positions of power, and who have that much luxury at their disposal are going to be a male submissive because they are just sick of being in charge. That, to me, is where I ind it to be off. It's almost like Cinderella or something. It's kind of this weird European folktale where these gender roles are very stringent and don't allow for the men to fully explore their potential in who they really could be.
Because, according to Hollywood, it's the way a man should act. Yeah. And that's the reason for these stories: to enforce the status quo and keep the culture intact and keep us from overstepping. But I don't want to be told that when you're in there for fantasy. It's not authentic to me. But I appreciate that it exists – and I appreciate that it sent countless millions of people to explore
what this kind of sexuality is.
What perspective does Mercy Mistress offer on kink that hasn't yet been portrayed in the media? It's a real place of honesty and truth around what kink is. That it's just about a turn-on and the different kinds of people encountered in this world. The images of people in it are very authentic, which I think is very different.
A gay character tells a straight character: “You all need some kind of manual to igure out kinky sex.” What can LGBTQ people teach the straight community about kink? We listen to our instincts because that's all we have to go on. And that's the biggest truth: We do what we like because we ight so hard to get to do what we like. How does your “interests and limits” list these days compare to your kink origins? I've actually gotten way more vanilla, which is funny, because when you're out there, you're trying to show off a little bit, to some degree, as to what you can take and what you're able to handle (laughs). And embellish that – embellish your own prowess. As I'm approaching 50, rapidly, I feel like, actually, I'm much more sedate, but I appreciate all the things that I'm experiencing seeing. I think that's great. But yeah, still can't get that thumb-knuckle in for the isting! (Laughs)
Hotspots.LGBT | 63
When it comes to kink, does anything shock you anymore? Mm, no. Because it's in the realm of play, nothing should be off-limits. It's play for a reason; it's just fantasy. It's these cathedrals we construct around our imagination; they have no bearing to what is in the real world, you know? If it's just play, everything is just play. People get into very wild situations that we don't have to judge or that we don't have to say, “That's too far,” because it's not for public consumption; it's just between two people or between however many people have agreed on this particular fantasy.
mainstream movie.
Do you think that scene was important? I thought it was important because it was giving permission for a male survivor to say that it happened and there was no thinking of, “Oh, he deserved it,” or, “He wouldn't mind that because he wanted that anyway.” It being brought up was really meaningful, and as a survivor myself it was a really important thing that I had never seen in a ilm, especially with male characters. That kind of really blew my mind.
Have you seen Call Me By Your Name? Yes, yes, I've seen that.
Some in the queer community wanted to see Armie Hammer's character eat the peach after Timothée Chalamet's Elio ejaculated in it because that's what happens in the book. Was that a missed kink opportunity? I think that's exactly what should happen, but homophobia still exists, even in the realm of ilm and in the realm of not even what's real, but what's possible.
64
It seems Hollywood is walking a tight rope. Bohemian Rhapsody was damaging when it comes to the way gay sex is portrayed in ilm. I think Hollywood really has muted our sex lives to be palatable for mainstream consumption. What's your take on the way queer sex is portrayed in mainstream Hollywood ilms? We're always going to have to strive for better and strive for more. There are examples where it actually goes very well. I'm thinking about Wong Kar-wai's Happy Together, which has incredible sex scenes, and that ilm is about 20 years old, and it's from Hong Kong and that's another element of it. Hopefully we'll get more of that. But you know, it's still developing and still growing. There's just the complexity of the sexuality too. I just saw Boy Erased, which to me did a great job in really talking about how we can be misguided and misunderstood, like whether it's assault, that it actually can be assault, that there's all these questions: Is this rape? And, yes, it is. That was actually the irst time I had seen that issue come up in a

I'd like to come back to Asian representation in media, since you blazed that trail with your 1994 sitcom AllAmerican Girl. As someone who keeps inding new ways to break that ground, and after Crazy Rich Asians and Mercy Mistress, what do you hope is the next step for Asian representation? I just hope there's more, which there is, which is great. I'm really excited about it. I'm so thrilled about Crazy Rich Asians and, of course, All the Boys I've Loved Before. And now both of those projects are going to have sequels. They're already in the works; it's happening. And there's more and more. So now we're looking at more of an excitement around Asian-American participation in entertainment, which is something I've been working on for more than 20 years, trying to get there, so this is a realization of that dream. It's very exciting. As editor of Q Syndicate, the international LGBTQ wire service, Chris Azzopardi has interviewed a multitude of superstars, including Cher, Meryl Streep, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. DONALD TRUMP really wanted to write about someone other than Donald Trump this week. I, like many people, have major Trump fatigue. But he remains the biggest creep in the land. And so, here we are. Plus, the revolving door at the White House is whirling around so fast it's flinging people out of the administration faster than you can say “shit show.” So even if I picked someone else in the Trump Administration, chances are they'd be gone before the ink on this column dries. But I don't really want to write about Trump. And so I'm going to write about some other things, knowing that, with a monster like Trump at large, he is looming over every subject. Elizabeth Warren announced that she's running for president. I would be super happy to see a President Warren. Did you know she loves dogs? And is also smart? And is also nice? Trump is none of these things. He also calls Warren “Pocahontas” because she's claimed Native American ancestry, as has just about every white American ever. Fun fact: Trump doesn't GAF about Native Americans and probably thinks the Battle of Wounded Knee is about a guy who falls off a golf cart and tears his ACL. Louis C.K., the disgraced comic who has admitted to jerking off in front of women who did not want to see him jerking off, unveiled some HILARIOUS new material in which he

makes fun of the kids who survived the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. He “jokes” that these kids aren't interesting just because they didn't get shot, and accuses them of using fat kids as human shields. This is not only a lame joke, but it is especially galling when it has just been reported that the adults in charge put on a tragic ballet of incompetence while kids were being massacred inside building 12. But hey, glad to see Louis's getting stage time. Another example of how being a mediocre white male will get you far in America, and how being a mediocre white male who is also trash is a goddamn super power. The Federal government is shut down as I write this, and likely is still shut down as you read this. If you did any traveling over the Christmas holiday then you were being screened by TSA agents who were working unpaid, and so long as the government is shut down that will be the case. Thank goodness everybody does their best work when their boss is yanking their paycheck out of their hands for reasons that have nothing to do with them. The boss in question is, of course, Trump, and the Reason for the Season is the border wall that Mexico is definitely not going to pay for.
He also calls Warren “Pocahontas” because she's claimed Native American ancestry, as has just about every white American ever. As I am writing this 2018 turned into 2019 so Happy New Year. I hear a lot of fireworks going off (and I am hoping they are just fireworks; for the love of all things holy do not shoot guns into the air on New Year's Eve) and I am just thankful that my dog isn't terrified of fireworks. He's just terrified of things like his food bowl, the cat, wood floors and spray bottles of any kind. So he's snoring next to me right now and my wife and son are asleep upstairs and basically everyone in this house is smarter than me because I am so tired and nothing sounds better than being asleep right now. But I put off writing this column until the last minute because I didn't want to write about Trump again. And here I am, literally kicking off the New Year wrong. Let's all make some New Year's resolutions together, shall we? Starting with not letting Trump rob us of our precious sleep. We should
also exercise more and eat more greens. And we should do all of those things while working or volunteering for a candidate or cause that we believe in because there are actually good people who want to be in government. Elizabeth Warren is one of them. And honestly? I don't care if you like her or not. I can guarantee you that if she was president I wouldn't be up past midnight on New Year's reading about ponies dying of swamp cancer which is literally happening in Chincoteague, Virginia because 2018 thought we didn't have metaphors that were heavyhanded or bleak enough.

DonÂ’t Just Get Motivated, Become Inspired!
ver notice that there are certain people who are always at the gym, no matter what time you're there? Isn't it annoying when it looks like they're having a good time when you'd prefer to be anywhere else than a gym? Well, there are surefire ways not just to rev up your motivation in 2019, but to make your workouts enjoyable and inspirational! Here's how: Tweek your schedule, find a time that works, and make exercise a daily ritual. If you can, opt for morning workouts. Studies show that people who discipline themselves to rise earlier are more likely to become habitual exercisers. Staying in bed a few moments
longer may seem enticing, but if you get up and get moving, you'll be less tired, more motivated, and more productive all day. If a morning workout isn't feasible because of your schedule, then make exercising something positive and fun to look forward to all day long. Join a gym that is conveniently located between home and the office. Sign up for group classes with likeminded friends. Pack a gym bag and keep it in your car. These are positive factors that will get you into the habit of exercising and having a blast while you're doing it! Find a routine that is fun and stick with it. Maybe you found Pilates boring, or you pulled a groin muscle during the first session of CrossFit. That doesn't mean you should throw
in the towel and put on your grumpy face. Find a form of exercise that helps you blow off steam and escape from the hum-drum of daily life. Whether it's signing up for a Zumba class
with a hot, high energy instructor, or hiring a personal trainer for his guidance and expertise, search and discover a fitness activity that works for you. Hint, if you look up at the clock and find that an hour has passed too quickly and you're hot, sweaty and enjoying yourself, then you've found your niche. Set tangible goals that are fun and sexy. Perhaps you're pulling out all the stops at the gym so that you can wear a new swimsuit or look hot on that February cruise. Maybe it's a playlist of songs that you listen to on the treadmill, lunch at Rosie's with the guys after yoga class. Associate exercising with the positive things in life and you'll see it less as drudgery and more as something exhilarating and rewarding. Use technology to help you reach your personal best. If you are into high tech gadgets and numbers, find apps, computer programs and other fitness trackers that can help you count steps and calories. Concrete figures and statistics are positive reinforcement and you can proudly display them on social media.
Be patient with yourself; it takes a good six weeks to see a body transformation. Yet, the feeling of empowerment and sense of accomplishment you'll feel begins and grows with each workout!

need ADVICE
By Andreus Quinones
Sober Samantha Dear Andreus, Several years ago, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I have always had depression, since I was a child, and it stems for a variety of reasons. I manage well with prescribed medications and staying active. My boyfriend has introduced the idea of us moving in together, and it terrifies me. I would love for us to live together, but because I feel like I manage my depression, I have never told him. Sometimes when I am alone, my depression is heavy, but no one is there to notice. I am so afraid that he will run away. Sincerely,
years now. My current girlfriend likes to drink and does it frequently. She knows about my recovery, and the struggles I have had with drugs and alcohol. I cannot tell her not to drink just because I don't, but being around her while she is indulging, really makes me question my sobriety sometimes. I would expect her to not do these things around me, but she does. What am I supposed to do? If I didn't love her so much, I would have left already, because my sobriety is everything for me. Sincerely,
Ricky G
Sober Samantha
Dear Ricky G, The best thing you can do, especially if you want a happy and functional relationship, is tell the truth. Have a sit down with him, tell him about your depression and your fears. You might be pleasantly surprised. You might want to start out by asking some questions to see if he is knowledgeable on mental health issues, before you drop the bomb. If you find out he is, go for it! If you find out he isn't, find him some materials and information to help him understand. Ultimately, if he loves you, it should not really make a difference, as long as your depression doesn't manifest any violent behaviors. I wish you both the very best. Now get packing!
Dear Samantha, First, congratulations on your sobriety. You are right in expecting the person that you love and that loves you, to be very aware of your sobriety and not do anything to jeopardize it. Unfortunately, we all do not think the same. Sometimes what we expect as the norm, is completely opposite for someone else. You must address the issue. Very blatantly let her know how you feel. You are right in saying that you cannot tell her to drink, but you can ask that she doesn't do it in your space. Maybe you need to separate the time you spend with her between one on one (sober time), and social time that she can go spend with her friends and drink if she sees fit without making you uncomfortable. Talk to her.
Dear Andreus, I am in recovery and have been for about 3 102 | Hotspots.LGBT
