Gregg Araki presents Apocalypse soon
Fossil hunting with Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan You already know Kate Winslet and you're finally figuring out who the staggeringly talented Saoirse Ronan (Mary Queen of Scots) is, even if you still can't quite pronounce her name. But soon you'll get a fresh chance to learn the name Francis Lee, the director whose beautifully queer independent drama, God's Own Country, won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Directing at Sundance 2017, as well as Best Film at the British Independent Film Awards. He's got a new movie in the works called Ammonite starring the aforementioned A-listers, and we think it's poised to be the next contender in the lesbian fave

sweepstakes. Winslet will star as 19th-century paleontologist Mary Anning (credited with making important scientific discoveries in the Jurassic marine fossil beds along the English Channel), with Ronan as the young woman Anning develops a relationship with during a seaside convalescence. With credits like this in the mix, we're guessing awards and stuff, and a lot of windswept English natural beauty. It shoots in March, even though we're sort of ready for it right now. We'll just make do with watching Carol for the 13th or 23rd time until this one is ready.
Veteran indie filmmaker Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin), pioneer of the New Queer Cinema, has a new series coming to Starz in March. It's called Now Apocalypse; he cowrote it with Vogue.com sex columnist Karley Sciortino (Viceland's Slutever series) and he's got heavy-hitter coproducers Steven Soderbergh (Logan Lucky) and Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike XXL) on board. As usual it's populated by a sexy young cast – Avan Jogia (Twisted), Kelli Berglund (Lab Rats), Beau Mirchoff (The Fosters), and Roxane Mesquida (Kaboom) – and set in a
MIRCHOFF fractured version of Los Angeles where everyone is chasing love, sex, money and fame, until people start having prophetic dreams about dark conspiracies and, well, the apocalypse. Whatever, it'll be hazily glamorous and there'll be old Cocteau Twins songs on the soundtrack, right? We're ready. Romeo San Vicente

otWorks.org's 10th annual Boca Raton Fine Art Show is coming to downtown Boca Raton on Saturday and Sunday, January 26 & 27. Some of the artists participating in this show within the LGBTQ community are wood artist collaborators, Terri Cadman and Martha Cummins. For Terri Cadman, each day is a gift. To experience that gift to the fullest, she believes we must make art a part of our daily living. Terri's work is dedicated to bringing art into peoples' lives through functional objects. Nature has always been a great source of joy, energy, and inspiration for her. The strength, beauty, and serenity of Nature, its forces and its inhabitants in luence her art. re lection of the Nature that nurtures her—body and spirit. Handwork, including shaping and carving, is essential to her designs, completing the connection between artist, wood, and nature. It is Terri's hope that others will see these in luences, sense that connection, and enjoy her work visually and tactilely. Even as a child Martha Cummins was drawn to the natural beauty of wood. Now, through pen turning, she can transform a utilitarian object into functional "pocket art" that can be used and enjoyed every day. Because Martha shapes each pen individually on a lathe, she can handcraft an endless variety of shapes and sizes to comfortably it any hand and combine this with beautiful woods from around the world to satisfy any taste. Her love for wood and the craft is now leading her to design her own pieces in
other areas of woodworking from boxes to furniture making. This process of growth and exploration is challenging but very exciting too. Personally meet Terri and Marth in Booth #64 at hotworks.org's 10 th annual Boca Raton Art Show, January 26 and 27 in downtown Boca Raton, in Sanborn Square Park, corner of Palmetto Park Road and Federal Hwy/US-1. Featuring original work by some 160 nationally and internationallyacclaimed juried ine art and ine craft artists – including other LBGTQ artists Dan Barnes, Kue King, Kevin Kichar, Don Tran, Robert Hyde, Kit Karbler, Renee Dinauer, Tony Mitchell & Beau Williams, Gwendolyn Redfern - the Boca Raton Fine Art Show has been voted in the top 100 art shows in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine. mentor, label mate and friend. Describe yourself in 3 words? Focused, nurturing, and fearless. What should the South Florida audiences expect from this sneak peek of your new show? Well, this will be the irst time working and creating anything like this with Richard. I decided to work with him because I've been a fan of his work with the legends. I was introduced to him through a mutual friend and we clicked. I think everything has to do with chemistry and being able to trust a director that will bring out the best in you. I'm a little anxious about the journey. I am not sure what kind of show they will get because I don't know what it is yet. I am so excited that the Adrienne Arsht Center and Seaspice are allowing me to test out this experiment right here at home. I wanted to be able to do a show that really re lected on my in luences, my likes and I wanted to share more of my own personal stories. I felt like it was time to get off the dance loor for a moment and bring the audience into my living room! Part of the proceeds from this concert will bene it the Arsht Center's award winning arts education programs. As Photo Courtesy of Artist Management
When did performing become an interest of yours? It started when I was 11 doing different talent shows and other things, and then I went to a performing arts high school. What was your irst professional/paid gig? It was my irst commercial, and it was for Marvelous Muf ins. I was paid $50. When did you know singing/performing would be your career? Probably when I was in high school. I was the one that was always tired in irst period as I had a gig the night before. It was somewhere around 17. You have collaborated with many artists. Do you have a favorite and why? My favorite is the duet I did with Whitney Houston. The reason for that is I felt like everything came full circle for me as an artist. Growing up I looked up to and admired her so much! You have received many awards for your efforts in the ight for human rights. What made you decide to use your fame for this cause and has this been rewarding for you? It's been really rewarding as it came out of purely organic situations. I had lost a few friends from AIDS, and I had other gay and lesbian friends who were shamed and kicked out of their family's homes. This made me want to speak up on human rights issues, and I have never stopped! Your Broadway debut was in Aida, how did this come about and tell us about the experience? I was literally in between albums and had just given birth to my son. The producers were looking for a new AIDA and I just went for it, and got cast. It rekindled my love for Musical Theater which I had done prior to my albums. You were recently in the Broadway Tour of the Bodyguard, which, I must say you were AMAZING in, can you tell me about that experience? Thanks! It was a very liberating experience. It was the most challenging role to date because I knew what the expectations were and I had to deliver 13 Whitney Houston hits!! What I didn't know was the discipline this role would require. That meant no wine, tons of water, no coffee and being at my very best vocally so I couldn't afford to get sick. My only days off were the travel day to the next city. I also felt that it came full circle for me. I was able to pay tribute to a long-time

an artist, why do you believe arts education is important for our local youth and students? It's Huge to have support for our arts programs. Where would we be without the performing arts? I think our youth need an outlet to express themselves. I also feel that we have to nurture the talent and keep programs growing where they can do workshops and have the opportunity to learn from professionals. The summer programs are amazing. I also think that it's encouraging for them to know that there are world class artists right here at home and to see themselves as a part of that picture What does the future hold for you? More music, live performances and more activism. I think more now than ever we as artists need to use our platform to bring awareness to some of the things we are most passionate about.
Richard Jay-Alexander You started out as an actor and now you are a famous director, do you like one more than the other, and what are the differences, creatively? I love directing, but I didn't really see it coming in the early parts of my career. When you fall in love with theatre, all you see is the performances. You're not aware of all of the other skills that go into the creation of the inal product. Leadership is also part of directing and I guess when you add up all the years of being class president, producing carnivals for muscular dystrophy as a youth, and anything authoritative like that, it all seems to add up to this trajectory. As an actor, you have worked with celebrities such as Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone (those 2 alone make me want to 44
| Hotspots.LGBT
die and go to heaven), Tim Curry, Ron Moody, and Sir Ian McKellen. What did you learn from working with such superstars? Wow! What a question! I've been a professional in the business for 43 years now, and I'm STILL learning “lessons.” Just listening to you drop those names my mind gets looded with so many things, but, trust me, I have learned from each and every one of the people I have worked with. As a director, you have worked with even more celebrities. Do you learn more directing or acting, and why? Why are you asking these dif icult questions? It's crazy and I feel totally blessed to have worked with as many people as I have. But, I'm also fortunate that I've worked with so many people that I have admired while growing up, myself. I've recently begun to be referred to as “The Diva Whisperer” and it makes me laugh, but I sort of like it, too. I was dubbed that in a meeting with a great dame named Lisa Sharkey, who is the Senior Vice President Director of Creative Development at HarperCollins. We were in a meeting talking about the possibility of a book deal. Having been an actor, a stage manager, a singer, a dancer, a production assistant, a script reader… ALL of those things come into play every single time I step into a rehearsal with a cast or a star. Being able to jump in and out of hoops, myself, helps take away some of the fear, and puts me on the same playing ield as whomever I'm working with. You have directed shows in some of the most famous Concert Halls in the world. Do you have a favorite, and why? Okay you're now “of icially” the smartest interview I've ever had. You haven't asked me one repeat question from all the years I've been doing interviews. Every single venue is awesome in and of itself, but I must say, Carnegie Hall and The Hollywood Bowl are two of my absolute favorites. Every time I return to either of those, I still get chills. You are on the Executive Board of one of my favorite organizations: Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. When did you get on the Board, and tell our readers why? Okay, you're killing me, now! I've been on the board since near the very beginning and was there when Equity Fights AIDS and Broadway Cares came together as one. It was a simple decision, really. Our business was being
doing this for me. She can't possibly do this eight times a week!” Just weeks later, I received an email from a leading producer in New York, named Nick Scandalios (who also sits on the BC/EFA board) telling me that Deborah wants to put together a new show, and expand her wings, musically, beyond her legendary dance & music career. We arranged a meeting… it was pretty magical… and, here we are! We're in the middle of the process, and we're exploring all kinds of music, and also her unique background and story. The people who attend the event at Seaspice are going to witness where we're at mid-process, and how and why we're trying to analyze and conquer the type of material we want to share with an audience. I don't believe this is done at a regional level, or a local level, but at a world-class level, and what we arrive at, ultimately, should be able to grace any stage across the globe. Deborah is nervous because she feels people expect a certain something, and they will get that, but, I have assured her that they will join her for the rest of the ride, as we move forward. It's always scary, whether it's Barbra, Bette, Bernadette, etc. But, we do it together, and we also have the guidance of a brilliant musical director, who is a star in his own right, and his name is Joseph Joubert. One of the most fascinating things about Deborah, was learning that she is Canadian. More on that as well as being a mom, a wife, an activist, a dance diva, a friend of Whitney Houston's, a Broadway star, a Fashionista, etc. when we see you at Seaspice. obliterated by the loss of lives and talent. To this day, sitting on that board and being led by Tom Viola, our Executive Director, and a committee of leaders in the theater community is one of my proudest responsibilities. You are also Camp Director for Kristin Chenoweth's Broadway Bootcamp. What made you take this position and is Kristin as super sweet as I think she is? Being the Camp Director for Kristin Chenoweth's Broadway Bootcamp fell in my lap out of nowhere. When we were on Broadway doing “Kristin Chenoweth: My Love Letter to Broadway,” I was in her dressing room one night, and she was despondent over the direction her camp was going in. She had dreams and goals for it, and felt they might be off-track. This happens to many not-for-pro its in their early years, and, at that point, I volunteered to step in and help her. It has been a joy, and is one of my favorite things I look forward to every year. The kids are high school age and theatre obsessed, so they're basically ME, when I was that age. Kristin is a marvel and insanely talented. But she cares about proper education, the arts, and helping young people realize that training and having a career can be within your grasp… no matter where you live or come from. This is also why Deborah Cox and I are doing The Seaspice Event which supports The Adrienne Arsht Center's Arts Education and Community Outreach Programs. How did your new project with Deborah Cox come about, and what should our readers expect from this sneak peek of your new collaboration? This is a very happy story. Returns to Miami for one day only!
aestro Jeffrey Eckstein and Siempre Flamenco announce the return of Flamenco Sephardit Passion and Grace to Miami for the sixth consecutive year on Sunday, January 27, at 7pm. Temple Emanu-El (1701 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33139) once again hosts the performance. Featuring a cast of international opera stars, guitarists, lamenco masters, and distinguished classical musicians, Flamenco Sephardit promises audiences a deeply emotional and transcendent experience. The production welcomes Laura Leó n as vocal soloist (replacing Rebekah Diaz Fandrei), cellist Chava Appiah, and violinist Katherine Kobylarz. The show explores the connection between Ladino and Flamenco music, two distinct cultures born in Spain. Ladino originated from the Jews who were exiled from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. It emerged from the songs these exiled Jews composed in their adopted homelands using their old Spanish from the 1400s. Similarly, Flamenco emerged from the cries and sufferings of the Moors, Gypsies, and Jews after they were banned from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. Flamenco Sephardit explores similarities and differences in these two cultures. The talented ensemble includes the father/daughter team of Jeff and Lakshmi Basile. Jeff is a prominent bassist and composer and has written the string arrangements for the show since its inception. Lakshmi (La Chimi) is a worldrenowned lamenco dancer who has spent much of her career in Spain. The cast also

features vocalists Rabbi Marc Philippe and Paco Fonta, dancer Celia Fonta, guitarists Paco Fonta and Michel Gonzalez, and percussionist Adolfo Herrera. “The message of Flamenco Sephardit has always been to bring people of diverse cultures and religions together, to remind us that we all have similar origins, and therefore should live together in peace,” said Maestro Eckstein. “We are so excited to welcome the incredible Jeff Basile and La Chimi to this already phenomenal cast. Flamenco Sephardit is experiencing a full circle moment, with La Chimi having spent so much of her Flamenco career living in Spain, complementing Paco Fonta's heritage from Andalusia, and Jeff having collaborated on all of our strings arrangements since 2013. We are also so pleased to welcome back our sound designer Cody Engstrom, who truly makes the space come alive!” said Eckstein. Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased by visiting lamencosephardit.com or by calling 800.515.1831. Tickets purchased on January 27th online or at the door are $30. VIP tickets are $65 in advance and $75 on January 27th and include seats in the irst 5 rows, a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception, as well as a meet and greet with the company.

n honor of its 10th anniversary, Latinos Salud will stage a Gala fundraiser at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in Dania Beach. The festivities kick off at 7 p.m. and will feature local Hispanic musicians and performers, an open bar, and a plated awards dinner with a surprise award to a local advocate who has been dedicated to improving community health, all within the stunningly designed and soaring DCOTA atrium. Local NBC6 news anchor Roxanne Vargas will emcee the evening. To help celebrate this milestone, MexicanAmerican fashion designer and Project Runway All Stars winner Mondo Guerra will attend and participate in an “Actor's Stage” discussion, re lecting on his creative journey, HIV stigma, and how his unplanned disclosure of his own HIV-positive status proved liberating.

As guests enter the Gala event, they will see Mr. Guerra's most recent designs displayed in the DCOTA's showcase windows. Mr. Guerra will also donate a unique creation to the event's silent auction.
Latinos Salud co-founder, Rafaelé Narvá ez states, “We have a great evening planned, with singers, videos, a great dinner, and special guests. The event is hoped to raise signi icant funding, because unfortunately, community support has not kept pace with the agency's growing service region. Like all non-pro its, Latinos Salud depends on private donations to supplement its primary grant support, which do not pay when service targets are exceeded by helping more members of the community.” “We hope that the community will open its

In the lake of Nicaragua, called by the Spanish conquerors the sea of fresh water because of its immensity, stands the island of Ometepe whose name in Nahuatl means two hills. The island of 276 square kilometers houses two majestic volcanoes linked by a short isthmus, and is currently one of the natural destinations preferred by domestic and foreign tourists for its hospitable and
genre latino / Conexiones passive environment, its beautiful landscapes, its two volcanoes, the archaeological wealth, its quiet beaches and its numerous nature reserves and forests where an important biodiversity can be appreciated. The island has always represented a paradisiacal destination. In preColumbian times, according to stories obtained by historians, indigenous tribes moved from the north to Central America in search of a paradise envisioned by their priests: a land formed by two hills, and in their wanderings they found it. The island of Ometepe then became a sanctuary inhabited by a mixture of different tribes and cultures, which is revealed by the huge amount of petroglyphs, pottery and statuary that can be seen throughout the area. The island is inhabited by friendly and smiling people

in love with their land, dedicated mainly to fishing and agricultural production of high quality that provides the fertile island soil. At present, the Otepepinos have begun to dedicate themselves to the attention of tourists and many local services have been installed on the island, with the disposition to welcome visitors from all over the world who wish to visit this paradise. The main entrance to the island is the port of the city of Moyogalpa (Nahuatl name means mosquitoes), which is connected to the port of San Jorge in Rivas by three boats and a ferry that transits the lake several times a day throughout the week. Upon reaching the port, you can see the main street of Moyogalpa and in the background the active Concepciรณn volcano with its perfect cone and cloud
crown. The city is small and passive, but it has useful facilities for visitors such as hotels and comfortable lodgings; restaurants where you can taste local and international food and delicious natural tropical fruit drinks; local rental cars, motorcycles and bicycles; specialized guides, bars with good atmosphere, pharmacies, cyber cafes and a well-equipped health center. A cobblestone road joins the Moyogalpa south with the city of Altagracia, located on the other side of the Concepciรณn. Following this route, you will find the streets and dirt road that lead to the other interesting sites. The detours are indicated by signs, so visitors should not be afraid to lose themselves when searching for their destinations. Following this road, you can visit from Punta Moyogalpa Jesus Maria, located five kilometers from the city. The point is a thin entrance of earth to the lake, whose beginning has a width of 20 meters and 200 meters in length, and is shaded by leafy trees. But this entrance culminates in a strip of sand that in summer extends for more than a kilometer inland; the waters bathe both sides of this thin tip of about
5 meters thick, and from it you can appreciate beautiful sunsets. Some visitors choose to camp in JesĂşs MarĂa. From Moyogalpa you can also visit the ConcepciĂłn volcano (1610 meters high), climb its skirts and reach its forest where monkeys can be seen, white face, and a large crowd of birds and insects. The view, as you can imagine, is spectacular. The Concepcion is active and its last eruption was in 1957. The islanders say that sporadic expulsion of gases or earth movements caused by it is common, so they do not feel panic or alarm. In fact, according to some Ometepec organizations, there are some and well determined sites of real risk in the event of an eruption. In some towns south of Moyogalpa, its inhabitants
have been organized to provide the Pueblo Hotel service, which will allow the visitor to live with the islanders and appreciate their routines and daily life. The service is not yet consolidated, but you can ask at the offices of the Entre Volcanes Foundation in Moyogalpa. The region north of Moyogalpa is difficult to access, so it is not visited by tourists. Here small rural towns are located and there are very nice little frequented beaches. The Touristic Festival of Ometepe takes place on December 17th. The authorities and tourism entrepreneurs participate in the event, but also the entire population. Dances, parties, competitions of bicycles, of oxen freighters and of rowboats are realized, besides other activities

The menu at Gianni’s gives a nod to Versace’s cultural heritage with Italian and Mediterranean offerings. The lunch items are mostly the same recipes available for dinner, when they are three times the price, so this prefixed menu is quite the value!
Black seafood pasta
I suggested we both order something different and enjoy our selection family style, which seemed to be what everyone else was doing. Choices for the first course include a Tomato Salad, Beef Carpaccio and a House Salad but we selected the Grilled Spanish Octopus (+$10) and the Burrata with Tomato, Prosciutto and Grissini. The delicate and decadent baby octopus was cut in chunks, cooked perfectly and served over Polenta alla Lemon with Basil Chimichurri sauce. The creamy Burrata was plated elegantly alongside its accompaniments. Entrée choices for this fabulous
préfixé meal included the Mediterranean Fish of the Day, Wild Salmon, Free Range Chicken and Spaghetti Pomodoro but we chose the Australian Lamb Chops (+$10) with Au Jus and fried potatoes and Black Seafood Pasta (+$15) with shrimp, scallops and octopus. The yummy baby lamb chops were seasoned and grilled to a medium temperature and accompanied by a side of al dente carrot and broccoli. The Black Seafood Pasta was a heartier dish and is one of the most popular items on the dinner menu at Giannis. I recommend both! We rounded out our Christmas lunch with an artful presentation of fresh fruit and premium vanilla ice cream, but a selection of sorbets is also available. OK, we splurged and did several menu upgrades, but it was Christmas, after all! An extensive wine list, specialty cocktails and a full bar will ensure to round out a spectacular experience! Gianni’s at the Villa is open for lunch and dinner daily. Advance reservations and “casual chic” attire is required. The Villa Casa Casuarina also offers luxury overnight accommodations in one of the 10 opulent guest rooms starting at $475 per night.

The Broward Center for the Perfuming Arts to Present
An Evening With Vice President Joe Biden
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts will present An Evening with Vice President Joe Biden on Monday, January 28 at 7:30. This moderated discussion will go beyond the 24-hour news cycle and cover a wide range of topics and include a Q&A with the audience. Vice President Biden at age 29, became one of the youngest people ever elected to the United States Senate. Just weeks after the election, tragedy struck the Biden family when then Senator-elect Biden's wife, Neilia, and their one-yearold daughter, Naomi, died and his 2 sons were injured in an auto accident. In 1977, Vice President Biden married Jill Jacobs. Jill Biden, who holds a Doctorate in Education, is a life-long educator and currently teaches at a community college in Northern Virginia. As a Senator from Delaware for 36 years, Vice President Biden established himself as a leader in facing some of our nation's most important domestic and international challenges. As Chairman or Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee for 17 years, then-Senator Biden was widely recognized for his work on criminal justice issues, including the landmark 1994 Crime Act and the Violence Against Women Act. As Chairman or Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 12 years, then-Senator Biden played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. foreign policy. He has been at the forefront of issues and legislation related to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. As the 47th Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden continued his leadership on important issues facing the nation and represented America abroad, traveling over 1.2 million miles to more
than 50 countries. Vice President Biden convened sessions of the President's Cabinet, led interagency efforts, and worked with Congress in his fight to raise the living standards of middle class Americans, reduce gun violence, and address violence against women. In the final year of the Administration, Vice President Biden led the Cancer Moonshot, an international effort to end cancer as we know it. Since leaving the White House in January 2017, Vice President Biden has continued his legacy of expanding opportunity for all, both in the United States and abroad, with the creation of the Biden Foundation, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at the University of Pennsylvania, the Biden Cancer Initiative, and the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware. Through these non-profit organizations, Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden are developing programs designed to advance smart policies, convene experts and world leaders on the issues they care most about, and impact the national debate about how America can continue to lead in the 21st century. Finally, in November 2017, Vice President Biden released his second book, Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose. The book, a New York Times #1 Bestseller, is a personal story from a father, grandfather, husband, and friend as he confronts the inevitability of devastating personal loss, while trying to balance his duty to his family and his country. STEVE KING I shall begin this week's column with a limerick: There once was a Republican named Steve who was racist like you wouldn't believe but the media ignored him because white supremacy bores them and focused on Rashida Tlaib. If you've been paying attention to the news then you know that both Rep. Steve King (RIowa) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) have gotten attention for things they said out loud into microphones. Except one of these representatives got way more attention initially. That would be Rashida Tlaib, the first Muslim woman ever elected to Congress, when she remarked about Donald Trump that we should “impeach the motherfucker.” Cue the pearl clutching. Every possible news outlet ran with the story of the Muslim woman saying a bad word about a president who has shown nothing but contempt for people like her. My goodness, you would have thought that Tlaib had advocated grabbing women “by the pussy” or something. Meanwhile, Steve King, one of the most open and unapologetic racists in Congress, while speaking to the New York Times, reminisced about a bygone era and at first there was barely a peep by the media. “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization—how did that language become offensive?” King asked. “Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?” Perhaps he went to a whites only school, but King clearly has forgotten or never bothered to

learn about our country's truly heinous history of slavery and racism. In a statement King claims that he was referring only to the term “Western civilization,” not lumping the three terms together as the Times indicated. However, that's hard to believe because King has a long history as being super-duper racist and not at all shy about it. For example, he once Tweeted: “Culture and demographics are our destiny. We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies.” And while he doesn't SAY that by civilization he means “whites” and “somebody else's babies” he means Muslims, he is responding to a (since deleted) Tweet praising Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician who is known for his far-right anti-Muslim dickishness. Add that to the fact that King has been an anti-Obama birther since day one, even going so far as to say in 2008, “If [Obama] is elected president then the radical Islamists ... will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they will declare victory in this war on terror.” King has also declared that only white people have contributed to civilization, unlike what he called “sub-groups.” Unsurprisingly, King not only hates nonwhite people, he also hates LGBTQ people. Weird how often those things go together, isn't it? Marriage equality? He's against it. Transgender service members? He's a no on
Though neither woman has publicly identified as a lesbian, that's just the worst thing King could think to call them. that, too. Right before the midterm elections King said he was looking forward to a solidly conservative U.S. Supreme Court, going so far as to say he hoped that Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor would “elope to Cuba. Though neither woman has publicly identified as a lesbian, that's just the worst thing King could think to call them. Not sure what the Cuba angle is. Sotomayor's parents were Puerto Rican which is probably close enough for Steve. While the furor over Tlaib's MF-bomb seems to be waning, King is, thankfully, starting to get into all kinds of trouble. The GOP actually kicked him off of his committees, which is a BFD. According to Slate, “The House GOP removed King from the powerful Judiciary Committee, which oversees immigration and voting rights, and the Agriculture Committee, a plum assignment for a congressman representing rural Iowa. King was also stripped of his seat on the Small Business
Committee.” A man like King has no business overseeing matters related in any way to immigration and voting, so that's good news. It's just sad that it took the GOP so long to disavow King's bigotry. Of course, the only problem the GOP has with King is that he says the quiet part out loud. The GOP's long history of policies that hurt minorities is an open book, plus they embrace Trump wholeheartedly. Oh, and by the way, Trump has previously said that King is “a special guy, a smart person, with really the right views on almost everything.” Iowa, DTMFA.

need ADVICE
By Andreus Quinones
But Baby, it's Cold Outside Dear Andreus, I have the guy of my dreams. There is only one problem. I remember when we first met, how he used to talk about only wanting to be with someone who has their life together. They must have a career, their own place, their own car, etc. Well, I had all of that, but got laid off a few months ago. I have been living on my savings, and now not only are my savings gone, but I got behind on my rent, and am about to lose my apartment. I really have nowhere to go, and I can't tell him any of this, in fear that he might leave me. I really don't know what to do. Sincerely,
Dear Andreus, My girlfriend is from Connecticut, and she tells me all the time that she misses the cold. I don't want anything to do with the cold. I am from New York and settled in Florida a long time ago to get away from the freezing temperatures and snow. She keeps telling me that she wants us to move, and I have not directly told her no, in fear that it will cause serious problems between us. How can I approach this situation? Sincerely,
Terrified
Dear Jenny R., Okay, if you two are in a relationship, are happy, and see this relationship going far, then sometimes there must be either sacrifice or some type of agreement. Notice, I said agreement, because I don't believe in compromise. Now, you don't like the cold, and she misses it. As difficult as it might be at first, it might not be a bad idea to split your time between both places. You get a period of warmth, and she gets a period of cold. It will be a sacrifice on both parts. Flat out saying no, might give you another problem, so let's try to keep it to a minimum. If that doesn't work, get back to me.
Dear Terrified, Let's cut right to the chase. Anyone who truly loves you will understand that sometimes things happen in life that are beyond our control. No one should make you feel bad for that. You should be able to tell him what is happening, and trust that he will be a support to you in your time of need. If not, then at least you found out sooner than later. It would be one thing if you were just being lazy, but you were a victim of circumstance. And frankly speaking, someone who can't be with you in the worst of times, does not deserve to be with you in the best of times.
