“
I knew it was going to be special when we had a green girl flying and a girl in a bubble. I knew it was going to be a hit but everyone else wasn't so sure and the reviews weren't that great. I love being right!”
Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth's career spans film, television, voiceover and stage. In 2015, Chenoweth received a coveted star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2009, she received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Pushing Daisies.” In 1999, she won a Tony Award for “You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown” and she was also nominated for her original role of Glinda the Good Witch in “Wicked” in 2004. Chenoweth has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and for a People's Choice Award for her role on “Glee.” In 2009, she wrote an upliftingly candid, comedic chronicle of her life so far, “A Little Bit Wicked,” which debuted on the New York Times Hardcover Non-Fiction Best Seller List. Chenoweth will star alongside Scott Wolf will star in upcoming holiday film “The Christmas Song,” which is slated to debut on Hallmark Channel in November 2019. She will also star as “Madeline” in the upcoming musical comedy “Death Becomes Her,” an adaptation of the 1992 film directed by Robert Zemeckis. With all this on her plate we were honored she made time to speak with us a couple weeks before her performance at the Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
When did the performing bug hit you?
It was in church, when I was singing a solo when I was 8 years old and I thought this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life
What was your first paid gig?
It was at that's same church and I started saving for college.
When did you know performing would be your career?
To be honest, when I started singing at church I really knew this performing is what I would do for the rest of my life. I know that's a young age to be thinking of your future, but I knew this is what I loved.
I know it's a long time ago, but when you were in rehearsals for Wicked, did everyone realize how special it would be? I knew it was going to be special when we had a green girl flying and a girl in a bubble. I knew it was going to be a hit but everyone else wasn't so sure and the reviews weren't that great. I love being right!!
You are a singer, actor, writer, etc. Is there one you enjoy better than the others?
No question singing, but it all goes together in a way. I usually write my own material and I enjoy it more as it is mine.
Do you remember the feeling when they called your name to win the Tony?
I remember thinking it was a mistake, then I thought get up and get up there. It was a cool unexpected moment. People were asking me why I was shocked as I was predicted to win, but all I thought was I am the girl from Oklahoma, not a Broadway star and Tony winner. I am so thankful!

How was it to receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
It certainly feels really nice that people recognize you and put your DNA on the street.
You have a few upcoming projects but the one I am most interested in is the musical comedy of Death Becomes Her where you play Madeline (Meryl Streep's Role). Can you tell me about this project and is there extra pressure that Meryl played the role in the move?
There really is no pressure for me as it is being re-written for the stage. We will be changing the story somewhat so it works as a musical comedy. I got my name on it, so I want it to be fantastic!
What should our readers expect from your “An Intimate Evening” on May 25 at the Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino Event Center?
It's going to be opera, country, Broadway, and 46 | Hotspots.LGBT
everything I have ever done. I promise if you like me, and my music you will have a wonderful time.
What else is ahead for Kristin Chenoweth?
I am going to do a pilot for Disney and I have an album coming out in the fall and currently I am doing concerts and a movie for Netflix.

Located in what once was Tropics, now is Wilton Manor’s most upscale eatery‌ The Grille on The Drive. While The Grille opened last summer, they have spent the last year ironing out the kinks of opening a new restaurant and refining the menu. The Grille offers up huge portions of delicious food, served in a plush setting by attentive wait
staff. You can enjoy a long list of appetizers, salads and soups to start followed by juicy steaks, chicken and seafood dishes, pork or veal chops, burgers, sandwiches and much more. A great brunch menu is also offered on Sundays. While you nosh and sip, enjoy live performances from some of your favorite local talent. On my most recent visit,
drag diva Athena Dion and I were seated in the main room on one of the comfortable, cozy, blue banquettes and quickly greeted. We arrived during full daylight but as we browsed the menu, the sun began to set and the interior lighting dimmed to an appropriate evening level. It took us a bit of time

to decide on dinner, since there are so many tempting things to try at The Grille. As usual, I ordered an array of things and we shared everything. For starters, we chose the seared sea scallops. Cooked perfectly, the Dayboat scallops are pan-seared and rest on a bed of saluted spinach and roasted red peppers, drizzled with Balsamic glaze ($16.95). We also added grilled octopus from the daily specials menu. The Spanish octopus was chargrilled and featured crispy potatoes, spicy yellow pepper aioli and salsa ($16.95). Moving on to a salad course, the Burrata salad is over the top at The Grille. A bundle of creamy Burrata cheese sits atop of a bed of arugula, surrounded by fresh fig halves, shavings of prosciutto and sweet tomatoes, glistening with Balsamic glaze…so delicious (14.95)! The Strawberry Fields salad and the classic Wedge also look delectable. I can’t wait to go back and try those! For our main course, we devoured the Mixed Grill ($28.95) which includes a generous portion of petite filet, sausage, pork ribeye and a grilled chicken breast. Mixed seasonal veggies and roasted wedges of potato barely had enough room to join this platter of proteins. This is definitely enough for two hungry Drag Queens! The Grille also does seafood right. We opted to add Mahi-Mahi and Shrimp Piccata to our turf selections ($24.95). Locally caught MahiMahi and jumbo shrimp swam harmoniously in the lemon butter and white wine sauce with a side of linguini. The Grille plates up a decadent array of daily desserts including cheesecake, creme brûlée, carrot cake, Tiramisu, brownie a la
mode, Banana Foster bread pudding and Key Lime pie... but be sure to save room for the peanut butter pie (7.95). This truly was one of the best desserts I’ve had in ages! Basically a Reese’s Cup on steroids, it is creamy peanut butter mousse with a brownie crust and a mountain of chocolate ganache….Amazing! The Grille offers a full service bar, extensive wine list, $10.95 Early Bird dinner specials from 4-6pm Monday through Thursday, Prime Rib and Baby Back Ribs specials on Tuesdays and a new dinner variety show on Wednesday evenings hosted by Dee Dee Van Carter. The Grille on The Drive is located at 2000 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors Florida and is open 11am to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11am to 2am Friday and Saturday. Reservations are encouraged and are available now at 954-530-3361. www.http://thegrilleotd.com

Anakena, which is the main beach on Easter Island, also represents the typical picture we all have when we think of a paradisiacal beach. Its white and fine coral sand, the crystalline turquoise sea, its calm waves and the coconut palms (brought from Tahiti several decades ago) make it an ideal place for rest and leisure. Anakena beach invites to bathe at any time of the year, as the water temperature remains at
an average of a pleasant 20C, with small variations in summer and winter. Anakena is still a pretty virgin beach, which I invite you to enjoy alone of this small, remote and beautiful paradise. With the passage of time, Anakena became an important population center throughout history, home to the Miru royal tribe. The archaeological complex of Anakena
Currently, you can see important archaeological sites in Anakena, witnesses of the great cultural, social and religious development that took place here. The oldest remains date from around 1200 AD. and they are constituted by ceremonial centers on and under the surface, residential sites and other vestiges of primordial relevance to understand the past of the island.
Great discoveries in Anakena
Apart from the ahu and the moai that can be seen in situ, Anakena gave two extraordinary objects to the research community. The first was found during the excavation work carried out during the Heyerdahl expedition. It is a female moai, one of the few that have been found on the island and whose elongated shape differs quite a bit from the typical classical image of a moai. The second object is a white coral eye with a red
slag pupil found under the sand in 1978. It was the first time that an original moai eye had been found. It is believed that the placement of the eyes in the statues returned the mana or spiritual power of the ancestors to inert matter. Currently these two important remains can be seen in the collection of the anthropological museum of Easter Island. Putting aside a bit the interesting history of this beautiful place there are also many activities that we can do in Anekena such as the following. Sunbathing on the fine sand and taking a bath while watching the centuriesold stone colossi, which seem to watch our rest, is a unique and overwhelming sensation. How much history is breathed in this magical place! The shore with hardly any waves is ideal for bathing children and adults. The transparency of the sea and incredible levels of luminosity allow you to distinguish colored fish with the naked eye and even touch them with your hand. The marine fauna is even better observed underwater with the help of goggles and tubes that can be rented at the kiosk where the baths are, or better still with a complete diving equipment like that offered by the island's diving agencies. Other options include shore fishing, spear fishing or kayaking. For those who love photography, it is good to know that the best light is obtained in the morning, although the lighting of the moai changes according to
the months. Something that we can not overlook is its restaurants and the local gastronomy of which I speak next. The Anakena beach has a fantastic picnic area under the exotic palm trees, which makes it perfect to enjoy a relaxing day in an incomparable environment. There is another small picnic corner on the far right of the beach under the bushes.
There are also small kiosks served by Rapanui families, with some tables and benches under the shade, where you can taste a cheese or tuna pie, different types of skewers and local fish dishes accompanied by the refreshing Mahina local beer. One of the busiest and most animated days of Anakena is the day that takes place during the annual celebration of the Tapati Rapa Nui the first fortnight of February. That day, the entire Rapanui community invites visitors to share a huge curanto, which after being buried for several hours so that the meat and vegetables are cooked, is blessed by the local parish priest and distributed free among the attendees. There is a great festive atmosphere, entertained by traditional music groups, craft stalls and meetings of family and friends. After the agape, some choose the shade of a palm tree to rest and take a nap, and others go to the shore of the beach to sunbathe and cool off under the waves. Many agree that one of the most important parts of a good vacation is where I want to talk about sleeping. All the hotels and cabins of Easter Island are located in Hanga Roa, too far for those who want to see the sunrise here. On the other hand, free
genre latino / Conexiones camping is prohibited on the island but travelers who want to spend the night and observe the stars in this little paradise are in luck. In front of the Anakena beach, the new Ana Tekena campsite has recently been installed with the purpose of being sustainable and respectful of the environment, a basic and necessary aspect in the fragile ecosystem of the island. For guests who do not have a vehicle, they offer a transfer service from Hanga Roa. How to get around.
Another quite recommendable alternative is to go by bicycle. It is possible to rent bikes in Hanga Roa where they also provide customers with maps and everything necessary for their tours. The one-way journey takes about 1 hour and a half doing it calmly and it is better to take the same road that crosses the island, since the last part is a fairly steep and pleasant descent. On the way back, the best thing to do is to take the coast path because otherwise that descent becomes a very demanding climb. Although the coastal path is longer (approximately 2 and a half hours) it offers the possibility of enjoying the sea breeze and the view of the cliffs during the whole journey, besides you can stop in most of the archaeological sites of the island that are on this side of the coast.
The section that goes between Anakena and Ahu Tongariki is not in very good condition, but from there the entire road is paved. There are very few vehicles on the island so traffic will not be a problem. The protection offered by the small bay of Anakena makes many sailboats and pleasure boats choose this place as an anchorage. So it is also possible to arrive by sea.

The Art of Health: A Unique Approach to Healthcare in South Florida For a lot of people, going to the doctor usually happens only when something is “wrong” and typically involves a long wait just to be hurried through a quick appointment. It’s common for people to leave the doctor’s office with a prescription (or referral to another doctor) and a chip on their shoulder. At Osteopathic Medical Arts Center (OMAC) of South Florida, however, the healing process begins the moment you walk through the doors. A state-of-the-art facility and a welcoming staff elicit a sense of comfort and calm so that patients can feel relaxed when they are with their treating doctor. “Everything is connected to health,” says Dr. Gardere, founder of OMAC and doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.). He knows that a relaxed nervous system is fundamental to restoring health and bringing the body, mind and spirit back into balance. Dr. Gardere founded OMAC with the view that a person’s health and well-being is greater than the sum of their parts. Unlike most medical doctors (M.D.), practitioners at OMAC spend a significant amount of time in the initial consultation with a patient, to get to know them and their physical, mental and emotional health. “It’s like how a painter would never look
only at a single tree to paint an entire landscape,” says Dr. Gardere. “You need to study the whole picture to be able to see how all elements flow in harmony with one another.” Osteopathic medicine was founded in the late 19th century by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, an American physician who believed sincerely in the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Rather than focusing only on addressing individual symptoms or ailments in isolation, the practice of Osteopathic Medicine seeks to optimize how the whole system of the body functions—from muscles and bones to the organs and systems. With the distinction of being a neuromusculoskeletal specialist, Dr. Gardere’s expertise lies in manually restoring function in the body by applying gentle manipulations with his hands. Rather than focusing only on the affected parts of the body, neuromuscular manipulations are intended to restore whole body wellness and balance. Practitioners at OMAC are not just focused on achieving health where it was once lost, but on keeping people healthy in the long term. Many patients who come to Dr. Gardere find themselves in severe chronic pain. They have seen doctors, chiropractors,
“By restoring function, you restore life.” Dr. Serge Gardere
orthopedic surgeons, and even neurosurgeons, in the hopes of finding relief. More often than not, they are prescribed painkillers and sent home. At OMAC, patients that suffer from these conditions will find practioners who study and treat the body to restore function and reduce pain. For Dr. Gardere and the leaders in the field who came before him, osteopathic medicine is about much more than just fixing a problem. It’s about restoring total health and wellness, and that starts by seeing the whole person and how they move through life. “By restoring function, you restore life,” he says.

Special Invitational Exhibition at The Box
Three to See: David Rohn, Patricio Rodrigues, Adriano Ficarelli
Curator, Rolando Chang Barrero, selected the three South Florida artists to keep an eye out for in the upcoming exhibition which opens with a reception on May 25th, at 7 pm at The Box Gallery in West Palm Beach (811 Belvedere Road).
Patricio Rodrigues is a Cuban born contemporary
artist living in Miami. Rodrigues attended and graduated from National Academy Of Fine Arts Havana, Cuba with merit to present his work in the 2000 Academic exhibition in the art of engraving. He was awarded best thesis project, and his works are in private collections in the United States, France, Mexico and Cuba.
Adriano Ficarelli is a street photographer who was born and raised in the multicultural environment of Brazil, with strong family ties to Italy and the United States. He is a West Palm Beach, resident and a U.S citizen. He was deeply influenced by his extended family of artists: painters, musicians, composers and architects. In his youth, Adriano was captivated by the 1960's black and white photographs he found in his father's collection of the Italian magazine Domus. Later, at university, he studied electronics, architecture, art history and graphic design. But he became a self-taught photographer as he began experimenting with black and white film. Every good movie is an inspiration to Adriano. His photographic style stems from his appreciation of cinema. His artistic eye observes 88 | Hotspots.LGBT
a specific moment in the flow of life around him and captures it to reveal the special qualities that attracted him. The photograph is a candid shot evoking an emotional response. Handheld in any environment.
David Rohn (who we are so proud of, as he writes for Hotspots) is interested in the ways that social and personal issues intersect and collide. The socio/political environment is diverse and contradictory in ways that are interesting to examine and to de-construct, and may lead to better understanding why it can be so difficult to feel connected to the larger whole or, even to oneself. The scale and complexity of the social and political constructs are held together and split apart through an ever wider range of communication platforms, which seem, paradoxically more socially dis-integrative than ever. According to Rohn: “The portrait series reflect my social observations and internal responses to what I see around me. I believe the sense of loss, of disconnect and isolation, of aggression and degradation, seem widespread in our civilization now. Responding to this from his own experience, and reflected in people he see around him, represents an attempt to connect, or at least understand better what it might mean. The Frivolist By Mikey Rox
Five Problems with Living in the Future We all like to daydream about what the future may hold, but when those prospects consume your thoughts more than the present, there's a real risk of living your own mental and emotional nightmare. Make a conscious effort to enjoy the here and now by recognizing these problems with overthinking life's uncertainties.
1
You can't enjoy the present
How will you ever find success and happiness in the future if you can't enjoy right now? It's a classic catch22. Because focusing on tomorrow today won't end as long as you live since as long as you live there will always be today and tomorrow. Plan for the future, sure, but don't let the what-ifs take away from your enjoyment of the present. You get one shot at today, and you'll never get it again.

It can destroy your relationships
I've been cheated on in the past by guys who've told me how much they love me, who were affectionate, who genuinely enjoyed spending time with me – but that didn't stop them from lying and stepping out. The effect of that behavior makes it harder to build new, healthier relationships, because I often worry if the next guy will do the same in the future – and if I'm constantly sleuthing for problems, problems will arise. I've personally found that the only way for me to keep myself in check in this regard is with therapy: talking with someone regularly about my doubts, fears, and ultimately the reinforcement of my own self-worth (I'm better off being single than letting a cheater control my emotions), and I recommend seeking professional help if you're also feeling lonely in this world.

The anxiety it can cause you will make you miserable
If you're worrying about the future, you're probably not concentrating on all the wonderful possibilities it holds. Instead, human nature is honing in on everything that can go wrong, leading to stress and anxiety. There have been times in my own life where my pessimism about what hasn't even happened yet has physically debilitated me to the point that I can't get out of bed. I do find solace in a daily routine and checklist, however, that firmly keeps me moving at today's pace instead of tomorrows.
Worrying about it can affect what good may come
There are amazing things ahead for you, but your endless apprehension about the future can and will affect what's to come. Every decision we make sets the foundation for what's next, and you're doing yourself a disservice (perhaps lifelong) by allowing negativity to cloud your judgment. This isn't to say that you should rest on your laurels and let the world dictate what happens to you, but also don't count yourself out before the countdown is done.
It's out of your control
You are only one tiny influence on your future. The rest – all the people and events that live right outside your door – have much greater impact, and there's no way you can control it. So don't try to. Live your best in-the-moment life and let nature take its course with your hands on the wheel. You never know where you'll end up – and that's the best part.
