ressing up our dogs and cats is increasingly popular these days. Instead of dressing up our kids we're dressing up our pets. They look adorable and - to be honest - sometimes frightened. So is it a good idea? YES...and NO. It depends on a few things. Number one is temperament. You know your pet better than anyone. I, for one, can say that my cats are sweet but I would end up

looking like a Freddy Kruger victim if I tried to dress them up. I guess that makes them nudists?
But if they are sweet and there are no hazards in the out it I say GO FOR IT! Hazards include anything that could get wrapped too tightly or accessories that they could choke on. The main thing is for us to always keep in mind the comfort and well-being of our pets.
Legit reasons to dress your pets: Cold weather - (luckily we don't have to worry about that here in Florida) although small Chihuahuas do tend to get cold... pobrecitos! Anxiety - this is a trend I keep seeing and it makes sense. A snug- itting vest gives your dog a sense of security and can be soothing especially during thunderstorms or those darn ireworks. Material - Another thing to keep in mind when picking the next Dolce & Gabbana frock for your pet is the material. Cotton is the perfect choice, while wool can be itchy.
Fit - is also key. The better the it, the
happier the dog, and if you have doubts you can read reviews online. Halloween - Oh My GOD I almost forgot... gay Christmas! We are a culture of celebrants, and our dogs will be included in that celebration, regardless. You might need a lot of tricks and treats to get them to dress up though.
People have pets because they want a friend; a companion they can share something with. Some people very much like fashion, so it's not a surprise that they also like to dress their pets. It gives them something fun to do with their four-legged friend and enjoy the inal product. So get styling pet lovers! In 1994, Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, believed a month should be dedicated to the celebration and teaching of gay and lesbian history, and gathered other teachers and community leaders. They selected October because public schools are in session and existing traditions, such as Coming Out Day (October 11), occur that month. Gay and Lesbian History Month was endorsed by GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the National Education Association and other national organizations.
In 2006 Equality Forum assumed responsibility for providing content, promotion and resources for LGBT History Month. LGBT History Month celebrates the achievements of 31 lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender Icons. Each day in October, a new LGBT Icon is featured. Pete Buttigieg b. January 19, 1982 Pete Buttigieg is the irst openly gay mayor of South Bend, Indiana. In 2019 he became the second openly gay major-party U.S. presidential candidate and the irst married gay candidate. At age 37, he is also the youngest person to run for the U.S. presidency. An only child, Buttigieg was born and raised in South Bend. His father, who died in January 2019, emigrated from the Mediterranean island of Malta. Both his parents taught at the University of Notre Dame. Buttigieg graduated valedictorian of his high school. The class voted him “most likely to become president.” In his senior year, he won the John F. Kennedy Pro iles in Courage Essay Contest for his composition on the political integrity of then-Congressman Bernie Sanders. Buttigieg attended Harvard University, where he was elected student president of the esteemed Harvard Institute of Politics and served as a board member of the Harvard College Democrats. He graduated in 2005, earning a prestigious Rhodes scholarship. Buttigieg received his master's degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University in 2007. He speaks eight languages, including Maltese, Norwegian, Arabic and French. After Oxford, Buttigieg worked for three years at McKinsey & Company, the No. 1 global management

consulting irm. During that time, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserve. In 2010 Buttigieg ran as the Democratic nominee for Indiana state treasurer but was defeated by the Republican incumbent. One year later, he successfully ran for mayor of South Bend, winning a landslide victory with three quarters of the vote. At age 29, he became the second-youngest mayor in the city's history and the youngest mayor of a U.S. city of 100,000 or more. Known affectionately as “Mayor Pete,” his popular programs have spurred signi icant economic growth. In 2013 GovFresh named him mayor of the year, alongside Mayor Bloomberg of New York. Emma González b. November 11, 1999 At age 18, Emma Gonzá lez became a prominent gun control advocate after surviving the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14, 2018, in Parkland, Florida. As a leader of the #NeverAgain Movement, her activism gave rise to nationwide demonstrations and helped trigger a monumental shift in U.S. anti-gun initiatives. The daughter of a Cuban immigrant, Gonzá lez was raised in Parkland. She identi ies as bisexual and served as president of her high school gay-straight alliance. As a senior, Gonzá lez survived the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history. The massacre left 17 students and staff member's dead and 17 others injured. Just three days after the carnage, Gonzá lez courageously transformed her anguish into activism. She delivered an impassioned speech at a gun control rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, calling “B.S.” on politicians and the NRA. “If all our government and president can do is send thoughts and prayers,” she declared, “then it's time for victims to be the change that we need to see.” The speech was broadcast nationally and went viral on social media. In the following weeks, Gonzá lez became one of the most visible and outspoken student activists to emerge from the Parkland tragedy.

In June 2015, during discussions on state legislation that would have permitted LGBT discrimination, Buttigieg came out as gay in a personal essay that appeared in the South Bend Tribune. In April 2019, Buttigieg formally announced his Democratic presidential candidacy. If elected, he would become the irst openly gay president of the United States. Buttigieg is a practicing Episcopalian. He married Chasten Glezman, a high school teacher, in June 2018. The couple lives in the neighborhood where Buttigieg grew up.
As a leader and founding member of the student gun control advocacy group Never Again MSD—alongside Cameron Kasky, David Hogg and several others—Gonzá lez spoke out for gun reform during multiple high-pro ile media appearances. She helped organize March for Our Lives, a series of demonstrations that mobilized hundreds of thousands of protestors across the nation and around the world. As a direct response to the Never Again Movement, the Florida Legislature passed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Florida High School Public Safety Act, which established a new set of gun restrictions. It marked the irst time in 30 years that the state had passed gun control measures. On March 9, 2018, when the governor signed the bill into law, he said, “To the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, you made your voices heard. You didn't let up and you fought until there was change.” During the summer of 2018, Gonzá lez traveled the country holding rallies for stronger gun control and to encourage young people to vote in the midterm elections. In the 18 months following the Parkland shooting, more than 65 new gun violence prevention measures passed in the United States. Gonzá lez entered the New College of Florida in the fall of 2018. It was a pleasure to sit down with South Florida native Joshua Grosso (Marius) for this exclusive Hotspots interview:
When did the performing bug take a hold of you? I would say very early on. I was always involved in the arts somehow. My dad was a preacher and I started performing at his church. Later on, in High School, I discovered musical theater and the rest is history.
What was your irst professional/paid gig(s)? I did “Man of La Mancha” when I was in college in West Palm Beach, but I can't remember the theater. I also did “Light in the Piazza” in Pittsburg at the Front Porch Theatrical.

Is there more pressure on stage here in your home town? I say the pressure is about the same as always. I always try and do my best wherever I am.
Besides this role, what has been your favorite role? I would say two: Malcolm in the “Full Monty” and Benedict in Shakespeare's “Much Ado About Nothing.”
Joshua Grosso When did you know perfroming would be your career? I didn't, all I knew and know is I have an interest for it and a love for it. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to continue to do this, but I don't think there was ever a time where I said I am doing this for the rest of my life. However, I am so thankful to continue doing this.
How did you get cast in in Les Miz? I went in for a typical audition, and I got called back 4 times for extensive auditions, and then I got the call. I really enjoyed the audition process.
Are you excited to be coming back to South Florida? Yeah of course, I miss home. I never performed

What's your dream/fantasy role? I don't have one. I am only concentrating on what challenges me next. Whatever role I think I can't do is the one I try and tackle.
What should our readers expect from the touring company of Les Miz? The beautiful thing about doing a show like this is it's the same show that everybody knows. However, this cast is on the younger side and there are different interpretations, but it's the same beating heart. Freddy McConnell, who was born female, transitioned to become a man and was legally recognized as male when he became pregnant via fertility treatment in 2017. After giving birth in 2018, McConnell lost his legal fight in the UK High Court to be registered as the child’s father. According to reports, a registrar told McConnell that UK law required people who give birth to be registered as mothers on birth certificates. The ruling by Andrew McFarlane, the president of the High Court’s family division, established the first legal definition of the term “mother” in English common law. The ruling stated “mother” referred to being pregnant and giving birth, regardless of whether that person, in law, was a man or a woman. “I fear this decision has distressing implications for many kinds of families. I will seek to appeal and give no more interviews at this stage,” said McConnell.
Little boys playing with dolls has always been considered a big cultural no-no. Dolls are for little girls they say, but Mattel has a more progressive opinion. The toy giant has excitedly created a gender-neutral doll to promote inclusivity and usher in a new generation of “gender-appropriate” toys. According to Time, “The doll can be a boy, a girl, neither or both, and Mattel, which calls this the world’s first gender-neutral doll, is hoping its launch on Sept. 25 redefines who gets to play with a toy traditionally deemed taboo for half the world’s kids.”

American Bulldog Sharpei Mix A dog rescue is the perfect place for dogs...to be safe, but nothing else; a place where the unwanted watch and wait for what would be a forever family and home. Founded in February 2018 and based in South Florida, ResQMe, A Homeless Dog Mission is a 501(c)(3), 100% no-kill non-pro it organization created to rescue homeless and unwanted dogs in the South Florida area. Their mission is to rescue homeless and death row shelter dogs and provide them with veterinary care, vaccines, microchip, spaying/neutering and most importantly, a loving, forever home to live the life they deserve. Recently selected and awarded as one of the 2019 top-rated non-pro its based on 5-star reviews on greatnonpro its.org, ResQMe has also taken in dogs that were left injured on the Miami streets but were found by good Samaritans, have saved dogs from death row and yes, there are those less fortunate dogs who were neglected, then abandoned and now need long-term treatment.

“We have many cases and many stories of dogs found in death row like Angel, a 12-year old Maltese, just because he was old and sick. He was going to be euthanized at a public shelter. We took him into our rescue and he spent the rest of his life with us being loved and spoiled until he last day,” said Raizza Perez, ResQMe's founder. Sadly, Angel crossed the rainbow bridge on January 15th this year. And talking about rainbows, "We have some LGBT adopters, volunteers, as well as a board member and we know and have seen how devoted and loving gay men/women are with their pets, and that's the kind of love we want for our pups," she said. “Some of the dogs we have are unadoptable like Mikey and Candy. Mikey, an owner-surrendered 14-year old Pomeranian, has dementia, a severe ear and skin infection. When Mikey arrived he couldn't even sleep at night and couldn't stop pacing. He is currently under medical treatment and his quality of life has improved. Mikey “is going
to stay with us at ResQMe until his last days.” And then there is Candy, an 11 year old Chihuahua rescued from a local shelter in Miami. She had a mammary tumor that was surgery removed by their vet as soon as she arrived to ResQMe; she is not up for adoption because the “type of cancer (tubulopapillary carcinoma) she has is so aggressive that our vet couldn't tell us if it has any metastasis in her organs. Candy will be “loved and spoiled.” There are also cases who do require longterm medical treatment but have a happy ending, like Ruby's case. Ruby “was found in a box behind a restaurant in Homestead. Her tiny body was full of mange and covered with engine oil. Ruby went to a foster-to-adopt home and was under treatment close to a year. She has recently being of icially adopted “by a family that adores her and now she has the best life that any dog could have,” said Perez. A great example of what love can do to a homeless dog is Grace, who was a guard dog in the Homestead/Redland area in South Florida. She was rescued with her six puppies. “The people who found her told us she was so aggressive, but we didn't care; we’re going to give her and her babies a second chance. All her babies were adopted and recently Grace found a loving home in Plantation, but most Star

important, she has what every dog should have...a family,” said Raizza as she can't contain her emotions when talking about these stories. Solely supported by donations from animal lovers and foster-based, ResQMe, A Homeless Dog Mission is ran by 3 board members that face new situations on a daily basis. And it is because those less fortunate dogs that its board has decided to make a positive change to this non-pro it organization. “For all these reasons and many more ResQMe, A Homeless Dog Mission is not only going to be a rescue, but in the next few weeks it will become a Sanctuary, so we can give a second chance to those that are too old and too sick to get adopted, that no longer wanted but still should enjoyed being loved.” As ResQMe gets ready to start a new path in their journey, “one more time, we are asking our resQue community not to forget these souls that are counting on our love, prayers and support so we can continue to give them the best life possible until the end.” And as Perez always says in her posts, “Remember we can't change their past but together we can continue changing their future.” To Adopt a ResQMe Pup
