This acclaimed revival proudly introduces a new generation to the iconic musical adored across the globe. It was a pleasure to sit down with the star of Fiddler, Yehezkel Lazarov, for this exclusive Hotspots Interview:
At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?
I think I was 8 and I was a tap dancer. After I started dancing, my teacher, was a big choreographer, and he took me right away to perform with a Military band. After that he took me to perform in an Israeli Musical, and I performed with them for 4 years. At the age of 14 I had a studio and became a dance teacher. I was one of 3 people who knew how to teach tap in Israel.
What was your first professional role?
When I was 17 I did a ilm and that was my irst real professional role that I got paid for.
How did you get cast in this Broadway Across America's production of “Fiddler on the Roof?”
Someone I knew saw me in a show in Israel and he told me they were looking for a Tevye, and asked me if I would be interested. However, I was booked up for many months. They still asked me to submit a video and they decided to hire me. I had to move things around to take the role, but it was worth it!
Knowing that this is such an iconic show and role, is there additional pressure on you to play Tevye?
The truth…not really. I was not familiar with this play or the ilm. I mean I have seen it and I know the songs and the story, but not very

attached to it. I come from contemporary and classic theater. This show was not that popular when I got into theater. I am younger than most people who played this role, so I never really thought of playing this role, so I was thrown into it without even thinking of the pressure. Once I started rehearsal I realized how this show affects so many people for so many years and the pressure I should have had. I truly fell in love with this role, and understood how lucky I was to have it! I found out you have 3 daughters with your beautiful
people who still don't have a home to return to because of pogroms, wars, and narrow minded Politics. I also think this show works very strong on the heart. It such a warm, caring story. It's all about love, balance and tradition, and of course you get a spectacular Broadway show. Beautiful music, dance and songs, as well as some hilarious jokes.
wife and they all travel with you (note the irony). Do they like traveling?
They all love it, my wife is the perfect woman, in general, and especially for my career.
Other than this role, what has been your favorite to play?
It's impossible for me to pick one, as I have been very fortunate to have many fantastic roles. Some of them have been: Dorian Gray in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, and Mack the Knife in The Threepenny Opera. I'm sure as soon as this interview is over I will think of many more roles I loved!
What is your fantasy role?
I think it's the role that I will eventually write for myself.
What should our readers expect from this production of “Fiddler on the Roof?”
I think that this show makes people think about being part of a society and a community. I would love if it makes people think about

Designer Profile
CHRIS LOPEZ STUDIO
I am very excited to share with you a great local designer, this one touches home because like me, Chris Lopez, is an illustrator turned designer. Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Chris Lopez is an internationally published multimedia artist. A painter, graphic designer, photographer, producer, and an art teacher! He studied in Barcelona, with two BA's: one in graphic design and another in painting and illustration, but continued his studies in photography and set design for television and Stage. Lopez lives and works in Fort Lauderdale for the past 19 years, and he's known for his intimate portrayals of the male form through

acrylic painting, watercolor, photography, drawings, print making and digital design. Thanks so much for the opportunity to share with you my process, more than a “Designer” I consider myself an illustrator. I like to “play” with my illustrations as I apply them on garments which I have labeled “Chris Lopez Studio”, “Wearable Art” is the term I would give it, since the artwork here is the protagonist!
Chris, I'm so excited to interview you, I love, love your work! I would like to know, how was your transition from illustration and graphic design into fashion?
Actually it was an unexpected transition, kind of by popular demand. I started with my graphic design concepts: black & white clean lines with basic lat colors, where the simplicity of the details is the main expression. I had them as original paintings and ine prints. People who visited my studio started asking me for t-shirts, so I decided to try it. And word of mouth got out. One t-shirt at a time, and they started to become popular within the gay community.
Can you describe the bear aesthetic that you beautifully portray in your work?
I never intended to create a “Bear” aesthetic or any “Bear” line of T-shirts, I just continued to create the same male portraits that I featured on my paintings, the same type of artwork except now it can be worn or hung on a wall. There is a very speci ic
“
I have more freedom working without the pressure of collections for every season, and I love that!”
type of men… of course, the type of men I like. My work is all about the simplicity of the masculine features, and yes, there are a lot of bearded men here. I love when my clients comment: “He's my dream man”, “I would like to look like him,” “He looks like my boyfriend.” I hear this all the time. It really makes happy!
Tops, bottoms, towels, bags, pillows, jewelry, wow... what's next?
The sky is the limit, I'm not stopping! Currently I'm working on a “Home” collection: duvet covers, pillows, curtains, etc…, and my dream is to design a mural on a building in our community with one of my signature portraits.
Tell me a little bit about your design process. (A day in the life)
I'm full time dedicated to artwork in my
studio at home. This is a dream come true, and I enjoy every single day. Usually my photography is the raw material for my paintings, drawings and some references for my graphics, it's the start or everything. I like to paint with day light and work on my graphics at night with my computer. I still like to hand print by myself most of my T-shirts, they are small batches and I'm printing just the ones I need every week. It's a very artisan process.
The look is casual but the look of the product it's quite elevated. What advice can you give our readers to stay fashionable, and yet comfortable in the tropical weather down here.
Be yourself! We are lucky to live in times that we don't need to hide our preferences and we can show and wear proudly what we like. Don't follow what other people do or wear, ind your voice, what makes you stand out. Wear clothing that stops conversations and make the heads turn, make a big statement and you will not be ignored. That's what I like to do with my prints, to help you to feel unique and dierent, like a walking piece of art.
Fall season is upon us, do you design for every season?
Not necessarily and while the summer season is almost all year around in South Florida, the garments sell mostly online worldwide. At the beginning I thought maybe I'd be selling more in summertime but the garments are sold the same in any season. I have more freedom working without the pressure of collections for every season, and I love that!
Where can we find your beautiful line?

wine tasting room, perched in a former empty space they carved out over Season 51 and P.F. Chang’s. It is just a ride in the brand new, dedicated elevator located just inside valet entrance at the Galleria to the second-floor location. The elevator doors open directly into the tasting room where you can sample the Napa experience; try handcrafted wines and peruse wine accessories and the artisanal market. The new dining room
is expansive with three large areas with gigantic glass windows that overlook Sunrise Boulevard. The décor is modern and upscale yet simple. The scratch made menu is huge at Cooper’s Hawk and features contemporary American cuisine mixed with international favorites, all with a SoCal twist. Since this is a winery after all, the vino list is impressive. Sip varietals by the glass, the bottle or by flights of four.

Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant recently opened in Galleria Mall, in Ft. Lauderdale. While the company was founded in 2005 by CEO Tim McEnery and has many locations across the country and many more on the way, I had never heard of them before I was asked to head over for a review. Not only is it an upscale, casual restaurant and bar, but Cooper’s Hawk is Ft. Lauderdale’s only (to my knowledge) Napa-style
There are five different flights to choose from or let your inner wine snob shine and create your own. Not a wine fan, that’s OK too. The bar offers full liquor and great specialty cocktails, like the Cooper’s Hawk Margarita I enjoyed…Cazadores Reposado Tequila, Cointreau, sour mix, passion fruit and sparkling wine all were refreshing on a weekday afternoon. My dining companion and I were starving so we ordered a lot by midday meal standards. As we sipped our beverages, our server brought out a loaf of pretzel bread and whipped butter. I ordered the Chopped Deviled Eggs and Toast. More like a prepared egg salad than old-school deviled eggs, it was very unique. Chopped eggs, pickled vegetables (they were spicy), candied bacon, roasted red pepper, avocado and grape tomatoes were tossed in Calabrian Chili Aioli with a side tower of cheese toast. My friend opted for the Mexican Drunken Shrimp wrapped in bacon with tequila-lime butter sauce and fresh guac…also outstanding! Other app options include salads, flatbreads, soups and a candied bacon and cheese board. I’m coming back for that one! Main course selections are just as plentiful. Too many to mention beef, pork, seafood, chicken, pasta, risotto, vegetarian options, burgers, sandwiches and lunch
size version of some of the most popular entrees make it nearly impossible to decide. After a long deliberation, I finally settled on the PistachioCrusted Grouper…a rustic, homestyle
presentation with mustard sauce, smashed potatoes and asparagus. Drag diva Nicolette was my guest for lunch and ordered a “Surf & Turf” combo so we could try a few additional items. Probably the most tender cut of swine I’ve had the pleasure of devouring is their Crispy Asian Pork with Gochujang Aioli. She paired it with an almost all-crab Crab Cake. Oven roasted autumn veggies and Mary’s mashed taters added to the overflowing platter of food. Even though I was stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey, I wasn’t leaving without desert! With no room for two, we struggled over the Lemon Ice Wine Cheesecake or the Banoffee Pie but finally settled on the pie. A thick, individual graham cracker pie shell filled with bananas, toffee filling and fresh whipped cream was almost too decedent, but we finished it, child! Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant is located on the second floor inside the Galleria Mall at 2568 East Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. The bar stays open an extra hour daily. The Happy Hour in the bar Monday through Friday from 3-6pm looks great for discounted wine, specialty drinks, select cocktails, and a dozen appetizers and flatbreads.

Things That Make You Go
Hmmm…
He Wears Short Shorts
A gay social media star was arrested in Saudi Arabia for wearing short shorts to the beach! Suhail al-Jameel, who has over 170,000 followers on Twitter, announced on his Snapchat that Saudi Arabian authorities have also charged him with “sharing nudity online” after he posted the leopard-print colored short shorts photo on Twitter. He Tweeted his frustrations about the situation: “In 2019 LGBTQ are not welcome in Saudi Arabia, you
must live in secret and can’t live in peace,” he tweeted. “You want tourism but you won’t give us freedoms.” “The police [have changed] my charges to electronic crimes, taking photos of nudity. How am I nude if I am wearing shorts on a hot beach?” Homosexuality is illegal in Saudi Arabia and the 23-yearold said he could face up to three years in prison for posting the photo.

Queen Has Spoken
The Toddler in Chief will have to find a new song to use in future campaign videos. He and his team failed to follow proper protocol when using Queen’s iconic song “We Will Rock You” in a recent campaign video. The Trump team lacks integrity in a multitude of areas, so why should copyright infringement be any different? After the video aired in early October, which played “We Will Rock You” in its entirety, the publisher of Queen forced Trump to take down the video based on the fact the use of the song was “unauthorized.” A representative for the band told BuzzFeed that Queen had “already entered into a process to call for nonuse of Queen song copyrights by the Trump campaign. This is ongoing.”

Everybody Gets a Seat!
You get a seat…you get a seat…you get a seat…everybody gets a seat! The days of hearing “ladies and gentlemen” aboard Air Canada are coming to an end. Flight attendants will now use the term “everybody” during onboard announcements. Expanding gender options and implementing gender-neutral terms was a 2019 goal of industry trade group Airlines for American (A4A). There was no mention, however, when these changes will go into effect. “We will be amending our onboard announcements to modernize them and remove specific references to gender,” an Air Canada media spokesperson for the company told CTV. “We work hard to make sure all employees feel like valued members of the Air Canada family, while ensuring our customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us.”
