C. y 600 d. C. No 40 | Hotspots.LGBT

On this occasion I would like to talk about my country Panama and one of the most beautiful cities that Panama has, which is the city of boquete. According to archaeological studies, the area near the Barú Volcano was the place of the first agricultural societies and cacicazgos, dated between the 300s a. C. and 600 d. C. However, in the area of aguna Boquete, it is L estimated that nature and humans have interacted since 7,000 Before the Present In Caldera there are several petroglyphs that attest to the presence of ancient villages in the region. During the Spanish colonization in America, the district of Boquete, together with the rest of the Highlands is almost isolated due to the topographic character of the area, and is used as a refuge by the Ngö be Indians of the center of the country and the misquitoes of the area of the Central American Caribbean. It is not until the second half of the 19th century that the region of Boquete begins to colonize, with population

genre latino / Conexiones from the districts of Gualaca, Bugaba and David and a small community of European immigrants, especially French and German, and Americans who started the Coffee, legumes and livestock farming. This immigration influenced the architectural aesthetics of the homes of the district. Already in 1907, the area consisted of several hamlets: Lino, Bajo Boquete, Quiel, Bajo de Monos, Los Naranjos, Jaramillo and Palos Bobos (today Palmira); and they were part of the district of David. However, the remoteness and poor communication between the city of David and the towns of Boquete, resulted in the inhabitants of this area requested the formation of their own district.

With the promulgation of Law 20 of January 17, 1911, Boquete is formally established as a district of the province of Chiriquı.́ As a necessary condition to form the district, the district of Caldera and the hamlet of El Francé s were added. Initially, the capital of the district was located in the town of Lino, where the largest number of people lived, and had some facilities. However, the inhabitants of the district made a request to transfer the capital to the town of Bajo Boquete, 42 | Hotspots.LGBT

due to its topographic nature and central location in the district. Although the change was made unofficially, it was not effective until the enactment of Law 103 of 1941. In 1950 the Coffee Festival begins to be celebrated, it was carried out intermittently by the community with the aim of highlighting the main agricultural product of the district. On April 9, 1970, a serious flood occurs that caused great material damage (one in three inhabitants of the district was affected) and the death of eight people. With this event, it was decided to suspend the fair until the following year, a process of rapid recovery in the area began; and in 1973 the Coffee Festival became the Las Flores and Coffee Fair. The district of Boquete, is located in the northern part of the province of Chiriquı.́ It borders to the north with the districts of Changuinola and Chiriquı ́Grande in the province of Bocas del Toro, to the south with the districts of Dolega and David, to the east with the district of Gualaca and to the west with the districts of Boqueró n, Dolega and Tierras Altas. A large part of the district is located on the Talamanca Mountain Range, and the northern half of its territory is at a height greater than 800 meters above sea level. Elevations such as Cerro Horqueta (2,231 m), Cerro Azul, Cerro Pata de Macho, Cerro Respingo, Cerro La Estrella, among others. Also due to its location and volcanic origin, its soil is very fertile and suitable for the production of coffee and flowers that cannot grow in lowlands. Among the main rivers of the district are the Chiriquı ́River (which forms the border with the Gualaca District) and the Caldera River (tributary of the Chiriquı ́River) that crosses the district. Other rivers in the district include the Palo Alto River, the Los Valles River, the Cochea River, the Colga River, the Papayal River and the Agua Blanca River. The district capital, Bajo Boquete, is 35 km north of the city of David. This city, as well as the rest of the district, is accessible only by road from the city of David and through the Dolega district.

Things That Make You Go

Hmmm…

By Troy Maillis

Putting Out Fires

Michael Troina, a former FDNY probationary firefighter, received an $80,000 payout from the city after suffering months of homophobic abuse. The 28-year-old’s lawsuit stated that firefighters at Ladder Co. 1/Engine Co. 7 in Tribeca would “regularly harass him by encouraging him to have sex with a stripper” and mock him for being a “hyper-feminine homosexual male.” In addition to the homophobic abuse, Troina’s fellow firefighters also relentlessly teased him for his interest in video games and also vandalized his car. Instead of reprimanding the firefighters for their heinous actions, the powers that be fired Troina. As a result of the abuse, Troina suffered from anxiety that required him to go to therapy.

My Princess Boy

In a statement, a spokesperson for FDNY said, “We take any instance of misconduct extremely seriously, and settling this case was in the best interests of the city. FDNY has a strict anti-hazing policy and will hold staff accountable when it’s violated.” Oh yeah, they were strict all right. Now it’s time to pay up!

As children we are taught knowledge is power and reading is fundamental. Leave it to right-wing, homophobic parental bigots to try to squash a child’s right to learn and think for him or herself. A Virginia school district group called Parent and Child Loudoun are protesting a decision to make LGBTQ-friendly children’s books available in Loudon County. The group has also encouraged parents to “challenge” the inclusion of certain books in the library inventory. One of the books currently being challenged is called My Princess Boy, which tells the true story of a little boy wanting to wear a princess dress. Apparently the positive, anti-bullying message is not one some parents approve of. The American Civil Liberties Union defended the schools: “Passing judgments, applying labels, and red-flagging educational materials that might prompt uncomfortable but insightful discussions are activities that do not belong in our public schools,” reads a letter from the ACLU to the school district. Although these books are not required reading, school officials are moving forward with reviewing the approved book list at the school.

Mushrooms Can Save The Planet

Battling climate change is a hot topic in the 2020 election, but many companies are already taking steps to help preserve the planet. Ecovative, a New York-based biotech startup, are starting to incorporate mycelium, the root-like structure of the mushroom that grows below the surface, as an alternative to plastic and Styrofoam. “[Plastic waste is] literally gumming up the cogs of the ecosystem of planet Earth,” Ecovative’s CEO and co-founder Eben Bayer told CNN Business. “[A natural alternative] can address a lot of our serious problems especially in the category of single-use plastics.” Bayer says that mycelium also has the potential to be used in construction and building organs!
