REASONS

Why Exercise is

GOOD FOR YOU!

Happy New Year to one and all! If you're serious about making this year your healthiest and most productive on record, then you've simply got to make exercise a top priority. No more excuses, procrastination is fruitless, just get moving and do it. Here are 25 indisputable reasons why you need to exercise in 2022!

1 Exercise is beneficial to your emotional and psychological well-being. It can alleviate depression and anxiety, eliminate fatigue, and give you more energy for the things you want to do.

2 Exercise boosts and fortifies your immune system making you more resistant to colds, flu and all manner of germs and viruses. 3 Exercise helps you think clearer. 4 Exercise is a creative and dynamic way to burn off stress when you are worried about life's little difficulties. 5 Exercise improves posture by doing such things as flattening your stomach and eliminating lower back pain.

9 Exercise helps to preserve and build lean muscle. 10 Exercise helps burn excess blood sugar caused by poor nutrition and daily stress. 11 Exercise revs your metabolism to burn more calories even while you are asleep. 12 Exercise is good for pets. Pets can get fat and flabby just like their owners due to a sedentary lifestyle. 13 Exercise is a great way to enlarge your circle of friends.

6 Exercise can help curb and even eliminate excessive health care costs. 7 Exercise improves flexibility at the joints. 8 Exercise helps lower blood pressure and your resting heart rate. HotspotsMagazine.com | 23

16 Exercise helps improve appetite as well as curb your appetite against stress eating or grazing out of boredom. 17 Exercise lowers the bad cholesterol (LDL) and raises your good cholesterol (HDL). 18 Exercise can greatly decrease the risk of certain types of cancer. 19 Exercise improves the supply of oxygen to your cells helping you to move more freely and breathe more deeply. 20 Exercise improves and enhances sex drive! 21 Exercise lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes in most people by combatting obesity caused by a sedentary lifestyle.

14 Exercise is a wonderful excuse to get outside and enjoy the Florida sunshine. 15 Exercise improves coordination and balance as it makes you more stable and resistant to falls and accidents. 24 | HotspotsMagazine.com

22 Exercise prevents bone loss and increases bone density thereby decreasing your risk of osteoporosis. 23 Exercise, especially activities like swimming, biking, and walking, greatly improves your cardiovascular system making you more resistant to heart attacks and heart disease. 24 Exercise is the only effective and inexpensive “fountain of youth” available to all of us. Face-lifts, fillers and Botox may give you a temporary lift, but regular exercise will help you look and feel younger for years on end! 25 Exercise helps improve selfimage making you a happier, more confident and productive person at work, at home and in your relationships.

Please note that there is nothing new about any of the above suggestions and most of them will cost you nothing. Pick 2 or 3 and make them happen. Here's to 2022 and a healthier you!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Philemon Chambers

Breakout star of Netflix's 'Single All the Way' on being merry about his gay new rom-com role

36 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Philemon Chambers can't believe he's in a queer Christmas movie. It's the kind Chambers, recently named "Next Big Thing" by the Hollywood Reporter, could only dream of watching when he was a little queer boy growing up in Compton, California. Then, Black queer characters in mainstream film and TV didn't exist, and when they finally did, those characters were in the closet or shamed for being out of the closet. Much has changed since for Chambers, and for the better. Now, the 27-year-old actor, who could previously be seen in small TV roles on "Criminal Minds" and "All Rise," is the change he always hoped to see in "Single All the Way," Netflix's addition to the LGBTQ+ holiday rom-com boom of the last couple of years. Here, queerness is incidental to the sweet, marshmallow center of this love story. In the film, Chambers plays the adorably likable Nick, who accompanies his roommate and longtime friend, Peter (Michael Urie of "Ugly Betty"), on a trip home for the holidays to see Peter's family in New Hampshire. It's an especially kind gesture given Peter has recently learned that his boyfriend is married to a woman. Though Peter's mom (Kathy Najimy) desperately wants to connect her newly single son with James (Luke Macfarlane), the rest of the family does everything in their power to help Peter and Nick see they're more than just friends. Recently, Chambers chatted about the humbling

responses he's received about "Single All the Way" from LGBTQ+ people around the world, how he and Urie developed their chemistry over Zoom, and the message he hopes the movie delivers to young Black queer kids. This seems like a really big moment for you. Does it feel that way? It still is a euphoric type of moment. I'm not overwhelmed because it's a good feeling to finally have this film out 'cause we've been talking about it for such a long time. To have it out and to see the response that people are having toward it and the love that it's garnering — wow, I'm gobsmacked. What's it like to be a part of the queer Christmas streaming movie boom that started last year? It's nice that these types of stories are being told and that they're being told authentically by queer [and] gay actors. It's monumental in that respect because usually they hire a heterosexual actor to portray a gay character. So, it's not an accurate depiction of them, of us. It's not. I feel like the films that were released, we needed them at that time. But we really need "Single All the Way." "Single All the Way" is the first film of its kind to not hold onto the homophobia and not hold onto any negativity. It is pure joy, pure love, pure happiness. And I'm glad that we're moving in this direction. I can't wait to see what happens and what comes from it. Are you and Michael sharing in the splendor of what being a part of this movie feels like right now? Michael and I actually had like a 15-20minute conference last night just about how much love we are getting. Everybody is loving Peter and Nick. Everyone is loving the story. And I could not imagine doing this and going through this with anybody else other than Michael Urie. He is such a gem. But yes, we talk literally every day. He'll respond to me when he wants to respond

to me, 'cause I know I'm a little bit annoying. I watched this with my mom, and it was a powerful thing to be able to watch something with her that's authentic to my experience as a gay man. Even my mom, she was like, "Oh, I'm gonna watch this film so many times." And I was just like, "OK, you're gonna watch it 'cause I'm in it. We get it." And she's just like, "No. It's just a really good story." She was just like, "I love that it's not about the characters being gay. It's about the character finding love, about the family wanting the character to be in a relationship no matter who it is." It's nice to have something like this where you don't, again, see that homophobia, you don't see the negativity behind it. But

you see a family rallying behind their son. I feel like that is so monumental to have. I got a Twitter DM yesterday from a gentleman; he lives in a different country. And he was saying where he is, it is a crime to be gay. He watched the film and he had said for the first time he felt like he had been seen. And that gave him hope. That must mean a tremendous amount to you. I cried. It means a lot to me that it's affecting people in the way that it affected me. It's a beautiful thing to be able to stand in the forefront for people and be that conduit. Like I said in another interview, Nick made

me accept myself even more. In what ways did playing the character make you feel more comfortable with your sexuality? It's different when your life is private. It is such a difference when you're not in [the] public eye, when people really don't know who you are. It's easier to live your life how you wanna live your life. You can go out. You can be with your boyfriend or your girlfriend, whatever. But there is a difference when now you are in [the] spotlight and people are trying to figure out who you are, what you do, who you're dating. I'm like, "Why do you wanna know who I'm dating?" I'm single. I do feel like I'm like Beyoncé — you know, the relationship is private until [points to his finger and motions putting a ring on it]. Just saying.

I just feel like that's a personal thing. But with accepting myself, I accepted myself. I did. If people would ask, I would tell them. But it was more the liberation that I got from playing Nick, because Nick is how I am with my family. My mom is just like, "OK, is this the boyfriend?" I'm like, "Mom, no. It is not. This is a friend." When I got home and I really sat down and got to think about everything, I was like, this is the representation that I needed when I was a kid. And now I'm gonna have to talk to people about this and I'm able to now, versus before it was a touchier subject. I'm

38 | HotspotsMagazine.com

like, why not stand in the forefront? Why not be that vessel? Why not be that conduit to embrace fully who I am? I feel like as we get older, the idea of trying to put on for people should go away. I'm just at that point in my life where I genuinely love who I am. I owe a lot of it to Nick, in [the] sense of how he is and how the Harrison family was with him. It just showed that these types of things can be normal. Did Michael give you tips on navigating being out in the public eye? Michael gave me more tips on how to navigate the industry in a sense of just being an actor. He has been truly a blessing. So has Jennifer Robertson (as Lisa, Peter's sister). So has Kathy Najimy (as Carole, Peter's mom). So has Barry Bostwick (as Harold, Peter's dad). Even Jennifer Coolidge (who plays Peter's Aunt Sandy) has given me advice. Rookie amongst veterans. What advice did Jennifer Coolidge give you? And was there any bend and snap action on set? You said bend and snap? You talkin' about [does a little snap]. Jennifer Coolidge, her advice was, "Have fun." Jennifer Coolidge's approach to everything — she does not know what she's gonna do until she does it. The chemistry between you and Michael seemed so easy. The thing about being in a pandemic is everything is over Zoom. Michael and I, we did our chemistry read over Zoom. And we had to give chemistry over Zoom, which is kind of a tough thing to do because it's hard to sometimes articulate. But honestly, when Michael and I started, everything clicked. It was an automatic thing. It was not forced. We were able to play off of each other over Zoom. I remember getting off of Zoom and going into my sister's room and being like, "I don't know what just happened, but I love it." What does it mean to you to be a queer person of color playing this character? I echo this a lot: I am what I needed when I was younger. It's one of those things where I still have my pinch me moments. To be at the forefront where there is a story out

there for young Black men who are maybe questioning themselves or already know who they are, that is positive, that [says] you can come out, you can say these things, you can be yourself, and there is a family out there that will love you, genuinely and unconditionally for who you are — it still is one of those things where I am still taken aback, still humbled. I'm just very, very grateful to have this moment. I text my team every day — I even message Netflix [laughs] — And I'm like, "Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to be a vessel and to be a conduit." It means the world to me. What about a sequel? There's been talk, and you can tell me. This is a safe place. The non-answer answer to that is, Chris, if you must know, Netflix is amazing. And you know, there's no telling what you'll see from Nick and Peter. As much as I am interested in knowing what happens with Nick and Peter in a potential sequel, I am also interested in knowing what it means for them when it comes to Aunt Sandy's annual pageant in New Hampshire. You know what? I feel like, if anything, what should happen is Nick and Peter should be in the pageant. We could do a whole little thing. We could act along with Aunt Sandy. I'm just saying. She's a tough director. Do you think you have what it takes to be in her pageant? You know, I can scream. And I can remember my lines. Tootsie Comes to the Broward Center Jan. 11 - 23 By Scott Holland

Tootsie, the hilarious Tony Awardwinning musical, is coming to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale for a limited two-week engagement from January 11 - 23, 2022. Call it "musical comedy heaven" (Rolling Stone). Call it "the most uproarious new musical in years!" (The Hollywood Reporter). Call it Tootsie! This laugh-outloud love letter to the theater tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult 52 | HotspotsMagazine.com

actor who struggles to find work until one show-stopping act of desperation lands him the role of a lifetime. Featuring a hilarious Tony-winning book by Robert Horn and an outrageously clever score by 2018 Tony-winner David Yazbek (The Band's Visit, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), this New York Times Critic's Pick is "a joyful delight" (The Washington Post) that's "so packed with punchlines, it should be called a jokebox musical!" (Bloomberg). "In these turbulent times, when the world seems out of balance, we need a place to let the good times roll," raves Rolling Stone. "Tootsie is it!" Tootsie is based on the story by Don McGuire and Larry Gelbart and the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture produced by Punch Productions and starring Dustin Hoffman. The National Tour of Tootsie is produced and managed by TROIKA Entertainment. The touring cast Of Tootsie stars Drew Becker (Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels); Ashley Alexandra (Julie Nichols); Payton Reilly (Sandy Lester); LukasS James Miller (Max Van Horn); Jared David Michael Grant

(Jeff Slater); Kathy Halenda (Rita Marshall); Steve Brustien (Stan Fields); Adam Du Plessis (Ron Carlisle); and ensemble and swing players: Leyla Ali, Connor Allston, Darius Aushay, Lexi Baldachino, Michael Bingham, Kyra Christopher, Delaney Gold, Danielle J.S. Gordon, Maverick Hiu, Dominique Kempf, Ashton Lambert, Marquez Linder, Lucy Panush, Alec Ruiz. It was a pleasure to sit down with Jared David Michael Grant for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did you begin performing? I think I was always performing. I started singing in church and that eventually led to me going to a performing Arts middle school and High School. I realized I was definitely a theater kid, and I was lucky to find my realm very early on. What was your first paid gig? It was in the Rochester Broadway Theater league which had a cabaret style show. That was in 9th grade, and I got a $250 check. I really appreciated that money back then. . When did you know performing would be your career? I knew earlier on…even in middle school. My parents also knew. Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far? Probably going back to high school, I was able to play Tevye in Fidler on the Roof. What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)? Honestly, I really want to play the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. What did you do/accomplish during the pandemic? I would say rediscovering the love for myself and my art. I also got to enjoy a lot of me time. Describe yourself in 3 words? Geeky, hilarious, entertaining. What do you do for fun? I love reading comic books and playing video games. Anything Marvel Universe I am obsessed with. I also love listening to music. I love playing board games as well. In addition, I love to cook. What's the best and worst things about being on the road? The best thing is traveling to different cities and discovering their chicken wing

situation. The worst thing is not being able to be in my own bed. What should our readers expect from this touring company of "Tootsie"? Come to the show expecting to laugh a lot. My suggestion is to wear a diaper just in case you pee on yourself. It's one of the funniest shows I have ever done and I am so lucky to be in the company of great performers.

Well-Strung Performs at The Broward Center Saturday, January 22 By Scott Holland Well-Strung, featuring Edmund Bagnell (first violin), Christopher Marchant (second violin), Daniel Shevlin (cello) and Trevor Wadleigh (viola), is a string quartet with a modern twist. The group plays universally recognized classical pieces while singing pop music hits from the likes of Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, and other pop stars for a uniquely engaging experience. Audiences may also recognize Trevor and Chris as two contestants on CBS TV's The Amazing Race. Conceived by Mark Cortale and Christopher Marchant, the foursome formed in 2012 and has since gained international attention. They have been invited to perform at the Vatican in Rome and at a gala for President 58 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Obama. Hillary Clinton requested a special performance by Well-Strung after the release of their viral music video “Chelsea’s Mom.” They have also performed on the The Today Show, and live onstage with artists such as Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Audra McDonald, Deborah Voigt, and were the opening act for Joe Jonas and his band DNCE at Pride Toronto. The group has received critical acclaim at New York's prestigious Feinstein's/54 Below and well beyond, from the House of Blues in New Orleans to the Leicester Square Theatre in London. It was a pleasure to sit down with Edmund for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

Edmund

At what age did you begin to play an instrument? I started playing the Violin when I was 7, and it happened because my grandparents bought a full-size Violin which was too large for me, but then my parents decided to get me some lessons and I stuck with it. What was your first paid gig? I started a wedding string quartet in 7th grade, and we actually did a pretty good business during middle school and high school. What was your best gig before Well Strung got together? I was fortunate to have a lot of good gigs, but I guess the best is when I did the Broadway tour of Sweeney Todd. It was a very exciting

production to be a part of. How did Well Strung get together? I personally auditioned for Well Strung, as a friend of mine sent me a listing call for a violinist who can sing. Christopher Marchant and Mark Cortele had this idea. We have evolved over the years but this January it will be 10 years for us. What has been the bands favorite cities or venues to play in? Truly we love going to South Florida, so Fort Lauderdale is always fun. We also love New Orleans. My favorite tour is when we went to Russia and Turkey to the US Embassy, and we did all sorts of concerts and workshops. We are setting up to do that again this February. Tell us something we don't know about Well Strung and about you? We get along well, and we hope that's apparent on stage. We also really enjoy traveling together. I just realized a solo EP called "The Road" this past fall. Who is single and who is married? Edmund – I have a partner and we have a house together in Upstate New York. Christopher – Has a partner Trevor and Daniel are taking applications. Describe yourself in 3 words? Passionate, obsessive, and charming. What does the future hold for Well Strung? Touring and some new music. Why should our readers come see this show? Well, we have had basically 2 years off, and we are really fresh. I didn't see the guys for almost 2 years, and we sound good even better than before as we had so much time to rehearse alone and improve. It feels like an exciting time to make music together. tes, visit well-strung.com.

Tickets Well Strung are available at the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office, 201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL. 33312, browardcenter.org or by calling 954.462.0222. time. The Viola Davis project, still in development as "The Fighting Shirley Chisholm," has passed to Danai Gurira ("Black Panther"). And now "Shirley," from writer-director John Ridley, will star King and a cast that includes Lance Reddick ("John Wick"), Lucas Hedges ("Boy Erased"), André Holland ("Passing") and Terrence Howard ("Empire"). Look, they made two movies about Truman Capote and the Lambada dance, so we'll take two Shirleys any day.

Call Regina King 'Shirley' Academy Award winner Regina King is the latest actor to take up the role of legendary Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to run for president, and whose career prioritized advocating tirelessly for the poor, for working class people, for people of color, for women, and for the LGBTQ+ community. She was a forthright ally when it was 82 | HotspotsMagazine.com

often political suicide to be one. If you watched the limited series "Mrs. America," you saw Uzo Aduba deliver an indelible performance as Chisholm, and you might remember a news item from a few years ago that announced Viola Davis taking on the part herself. Fast forward to 2021, with two separate films about Chisholm in the works at the same

AUBREY PLAZA TALKS 'HAPPIEST SEASON' SEQUEL If you saw last year's lesbian Christmas rom-com "Happiest Season" (you did) and you loved it (ehhh… maybe) and wanted more from Aubrey Plaza's extremely cool character "Riley" (you super really totally did), then here's a bit of news that is officially not official: there might be a sequel. The reason it's unofficial is because it comes from a TikTok video taken in a bookstore where Plaza was signing copies of her children's book "The Legend of The Christmas Witch." In the video Plaza speaks freely (Openly wishing? Assigning her own production green light? Casting an occult spell?) about how there's going to be a sequel and how it's because her character deserves some love. Riley does indeed need more

screen time and ladyaffection and we clamor for that sequel. So for now we're going to run with this and assume Plaza is to be taken more seriously than any single moment when she's been interviewed on anyone's talk show and delivering every answer with a wink. Please, Christmas Witch, come through. JENNIFER COOLIDGE IN EVERYTHING NOW, PLEASE Jennifer Coolidge had a very good 2021. She was simultaneously sympathetic and villainous in "The White Lotus," disgruntled and bitter in the underappreciated indie "Swan Song" with Udo Kier. And in Netflix's "Single All the Way," she was the comedy MVP of a queer Christmas rom-com, shouting at children in a holiday pageant called "Jesus H. Christ," and delivering an already immortal bit of dialogue: "[The gays] are always

obsessed with me." She's right. We are. And we're trying to be patient with the development process of her upcoming project, "Legally Blonde 3," where she'll revive the role of Paulette. In a recent interview, Reese Witherspoon deflected in the direction of screenwriter Mindy Kaling as the real person to ask the big "WHEN" question, meaning that Kaling is hard at work making a script happen and everybody relax. (We'll try.) In the meantime look for Coolidge in 2022 in queer director Christopher Landon's comedy, "We Have a Ghost" with David Harbour, Anthony Mackie and Tig Notaro.

Luke Macfarlane made noise a couple months ago about casting LOTS of queer actors in all roles. And they've made good on that. Joining a supporting cast that already includes "Scandal" star Guillermo Diaz, Symone from "RuPaul's Drag Race," Ts Madison ("Zola"), Miss Lawrence ("Star") and standup comic Guy Branum ("QForce"), the call sheet has fully expanded with news of queer actors Monica Raymund ("Chicago Fire"), Peter Kim ("The 40 Year-Old Version") and Benito Skinner (the upcoming "Queer as Folk" reboot) on board alongside "SNL" star Bowen Yang, trans actors Becca Blackwell ("Sort Of") and Eve Lindley ("Dispatches from Elsewhere"), "Glee" star Dot Marie Jones, Oscar-winning screenwriter/actor Jim Rash ("American Housewife"), legendary lesbian Amanda Bearse ("Married with Children") and the queerest elder queer of all time, Harvey Fierstein. That's how you do some representation and why isn't this movie already in front of our eyes?

Frank Conti

Dancer & Fitness Instructor For those in South Florida, keep your eyes open for this local dancer and fitness instructor. You might see him dancing on the stage, or you might find him giving a fitness class in one of his original programs. What's your claim-to-fame? I consider myself as an artist. I don't see why I would put myself in a box, when I can conquer more than one thing. Where did you grow up? Well, I lived in Italy until I was 18. But then as soon as I reached the age where I could leave that little close-minded village where I grew up, I moved to Rome for a couple of years. And since I had even bigger dreams, I moved to London. I first lived in Richmond, where my university was, and then I moved to Paddington. Yes, where the Paddington Bear is from (laughs). What's something special about London that isn't common knowledge? That it's the most multicultural city in Europe, with more than 250 nationalities. What do you miss about London? I guess what I miss the most is that it's close to Italy, and, therefore, close to my family, which I love and miss very much. How long have you lived in South Florida? I've lived in Florida for the past five years. Why did you move here? Well, my dream was always to come to America to follow the American Dream. The main reason that I moved here was so that I could launch my two fitness programs: Bounce DanceFit and BADASS. What part of South Florida do you live in? I live in South Beach, just four blocks away from the beach. 96 | HotspotsMagazine.com

What do you like most about living here? Well, after living in London for so long, I was desperate for some sun (laughs). So, I would say that the weather, and the fact that I don't need a winter wardrobe anymore, are my two favorite things about living here. If you had to live somewhere else other than here, where would you live? I would probably like to give it a try in Los Angeles. Where do you hang out in South Florida? In Wynwood or South Beach. Which one of your old jobs least prepared you for what you do now? Well, I've done a few jobs that didn't add up to what I'm doing now. I worked in a magazine store, I was a barber, I worked in a bar, and I was a waiter. But those jobs did

teach me the value of money and how to work hard to get what you want. What kind of dance do you use in your fitness programs? I'm the creator of two fitness programs: Bounce DanceFit and BADASS. Bounce DanceFit incorporates basic street-dance steps and styles. Whereas BADASS is a mix of easy dance moves and combat. Both are cardio classes, and both are a fun way to bust some moves and burn calories. How did you come up with these programs? While I was still at university, I also had to work to provide for myself, because I didn't have financial support from my family. So, I taught dance classes in gyms. I would just teach my own style, and I would make up my own choreography. And when the gyms started giving me more and more classes, I thought to myself, "what If I let the other instructors teach my choreography that people love some much?" And then everything just followed through from there. What does Bounce DanceFit stand for? Bounce is actually a street dance move. So, because I incorporate street dance steps, I used the word "bounce." And then I added "DanceFit," so it would be clear that it's a dance fitness class. What kind of dance did you study? I studied ballet and contemporary. Who's your favorite dancer? That would have to be the incredible Michael Jackson. Are you a fan of Zumba and its founder, Beto Perez? I do know Beto Perez, and yes, I do love all Latin rhythms. Do you have a studio? I don't have a studio, as I mainly travel to different countries and cities to train instructors how to teach my programs.

What are the challenges of fitness clientele? I guess it's the idea of a perfect body that society promotes. Fitness is important for better health, and it has so many amazing benefits. Fitness isn't just for a certain body type or size. Everyone should enjoy fitness, because it makes you feel good, if nothing else. Do you think that there's too much emphasis on image in South Florida? Well, yes, there's a bit of a pressure here, especially if you're living in a beach city, where it's hot most of the year, and people are almost naked. So, yes, living here can make you very conscientious of your body. What's the best dancing gig that you ever did? That would be when I performed a contemporary duet at the Royal Opera in London that I choregraphed myself. Sophie's Choice: if you had to choose between teaching or dancing, which one would choose? I would definitely want to be on stage performing rather than backstage. What's the strangest thing that ever happened to you onstage? I went completely blank, and I didn't remember the steps, but I still saw my body moving and doing the choreography flawlessly. Is there anything else that you'd like to say? I would like to tell people to follow their dreams, and don't let a few obstacles hold you down. Take chances, and each time you fall, bounce right back up stronger than before. Where can we see you? You can see my fitness programs on my YouTube channel, which is called Franco Conquista. You can also find me on Instagram at FrankConti08. HotspotsMagazine.com | 97

MR. MAN ANNOUNCES

By Noel Hoffman Hollywood wasn't afraid to take viewers to some surprisingly new-d places in 2021. Cinema ventured deep into the explicit in several of the year's top pictures, perhaps none more so than on HBO's The White Lotus. It featured multiple erotic scenes but the one everyone was talking about at the water cooler was the scene between Lukas Gage and Murray Bartlett. For his part, Gage welcomed the attention. "I can't wait for my ass to get retweeted all over the Internet," he said. And it did. Halston, the Netflix miniseries about the rise and fall of the iconic couture designer, was as sexually-forward as it was fashionforward. It had everything fans could expect from a Ryan Murphy production: rock music, drugs and loads of runway looks, but it was the eye-popping nakedness that truly captivated fans in 2021; especially the scene where Ewan McGregor and 6'4 tall Sullivan Jones engage in very realistic intimacy. "Hollywood continues to push the boundaries when it comes to nudity and sex," says Phil Henricks of Mr. Man, the 106 | HotspotsMagazine.com

world's leading online library of every male nude scene in the history of film and television. "Many of the scenes we saw play out on screen in 2021 simply would not have happened in previous years." That includes a scene in Violation featuring a fully erect, blindfolded, Jesse LaVercombe and Peter Vacks' masturbation scene in PVT Chat. Sebastian Stan's steamy getaway in Monday, featuring the actor driving a moped fully nude through the city streets of Athens, was a fan favorite but probably the most talked about scene in Twitterverse this year was Adam Demos' impressive showing in the shower in Sex/Life.

Dear Andreus, There is a guy that I have been interested in for quite some time. We always exchange glances when I see him out and about, and finally we spoke and hit it off. There is one big issue though… his teeth. Although he is absolutely stunning, a couple of his teeth look a bit rotten, and I think it accounts for the weird smell that he tends to have on his breath. I really like him, but I don't know how to say something about it. It interferes with my desire to be intimate with him, because I am reluctant to kiss him. What do I do? Sincerely, Jake S.

Dear Jake, This is a very delicate area. It is not easy to point out to someone that there is an issue such as that, even if they are aware of it. Your delivery can bruise his self-esteem. You could always indirectly suggest a dental trip, by bringing up your own dental appointment. Clearly, he needs some care if there is a smell and/or rotting teeth. These types of things can also 124 | HotspotsMagazine.com

cause a variety of other health issues. You could also make an appointment to the dentist, and have him accompany you, or be your ride to and from the dentist to sort of drop a hint. You can also do your brushing and flossing routines when he is around. These may all be ways of getting the point across without being abrasive or hurtful. Good luck! Dear Andreus, I have recently become vegan and have been trying to get my partner to do the same. I believe that it is a healthier lifestyle and want him to be a part of this change. He is, however, very resistant to any change, and says that he does not intend on giving up steak (which is his favorite). I understand being used to eating certain things, but I just want him to be healthier, especially since he has health issues in the past. How can I get him to understand that vegan living is cleaner, healthier living? Sincerely, Andrew P. Dear Andrew, First, let me congratulate you on your decision to become vegan. That takes a lot of dedication and discipline. That being said, this is not for everyone. It is also not easy for everyone to embrace such a change in lifestyle and eating habits unless there is some type of internal motivation. I, myself, tried to be vegan, and it was short-lived. I enjoy steak, chicken, and fish, and could not handle leaving them out of my diet. There are healthier and cleaner approaches to one's diet without having to completely remove meats. One such approach, is portion-control. If you are trying to encourage him to make healthier choices, maybe start by limiting the portions of meat, and introducing more vegetables and fruits. If nothing more, this is going to take patience. I hope it works out!
