AHF Opened New Healthcare Center
Expanding Access to HIV/AIDS Prevention Services AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the world's largest non-profit HIV/AIDS service organization, with a strong presence in South Florida, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 10 at its Northpoint Healthcare Center, located at 6333 North Federal Highway, Suite 301/302, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The organization relocated the Northpoint location to allow for greater accessibility to the modernized patient care provided by AHF as well as ease of access to the myriad of

HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services needed in South Florida. Opening the original location in 2009, AHF's Northpoint clinic is a fullservice clinic that has become the largest provider of healthcare for gay men in Broward County, many who are not living with HIV. The Northpoint
location has been a lead agency in providing PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis), a medicine taken to prevent contracting HIV, to many of its clients; and offers a myriad of HIV/AIDS treatment services including case management, linkage to care, Ryan White, as well as houses the organizations non-profit pharmacy. Did you plan to have kids? Believe it or not I was married to a woman for 10 years and we had two boys. Towards the end of the marriage, I realized I was gay and my kids were 1 and 5 at that time. How is your relationship with your ex-wife? I am a very lucky man as my relationship with my ex wife has always been amicable.
When did you tell your kids you were gay? When I came out to my ex-wife I also came out to my kids, so they knew from a very early age. How is your love life these days? After I got divorced, I had a couple of boyfriends, but I am with my current partner, Vim Kruger, for 22 years. How did met Vim? I did a photo short with him and it was love at first sight, and we have been together ever since. What makes Vim the perfect guy for you? I would say he is my rock who has always kept me in check. In addition, he knew my kids were my priority and he never stood in the way of that. How did your boys come out to you? They came out separately. Alex came out when he was 18 and visiting from college, and Luke also came out at 18 while he was visiting for the summer. How did you react when the boys came out to you? With Alex I sort of knew, but with Luke I was totally

Bryant wins this week and the Go-Go Gods send Randy home. It was a pleasure to sit down with Randy for this exclusive Hotspots interview. How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been go-go dancing since 2014. I had a few friends who were Go-Go dancing and they convinced me to try it out. I tried it, and loved it! How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? One of my co-workers, when I was doing medical billing, started calling me Randy Boo and that developed into my artist name. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? I have Shakira hips. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I was so excited and nervous at the same time. It was a very thrilling and a

Broadway in Fort Lauderdale has announced the Tony & Grammy Awardwinning Broadway hit Beautiful—The Carole King Musical, about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter, will make its Fort Lauderdale return to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for five performances June 17-19. Long before she was Carole King, charttopping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the
way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You've Got A Friend” and the title song. “We are humbled that over five million audience members worldwide have been entertained by our celebration of Carole's story and her timeless music” said producer Paul Blake. Sony Pictures has announced that the film adaptation of Beautiful will be produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Paul Blake. It was a pleasure to sit down with Sara Shepard who plays Carole King for this exclusive Hotspots Interview.
At what age did you begin performing? When I was about 5 I started taking theater classes in my community theater in Toledo Ohio. What was your first paid gig? It honestly may have been the role I got my equity card from in St Louis at The Muny. I couldn't believe I got paid to do what I love. When did you know performing would be your career? I knew my freshman year of high school that this was something I really want to do. My sister is a musical Theater major also, so I knew this was something that could be accomplished. Other than this show, what has been your favorite show or role so far? I would have to say when I played Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, in Chicago at the Drury Lane Theater for three months. It's such an incredible role to dig your heels into. It was a blast! What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)? I would say Lucille Frank in Parade. What did you do/accomplish during the Quarantine part of the pandemic? To be very honest, not a whole lot. Beautiful closed the fall of
2019, and I was in the show for 6 years. I took it as a sign to chill out and binged a lot of TV. I also spent a lot of time with my family and my boyfriend and animals. Is there additional pressure performing in this show since Carole King is so iconic? I think I try not to put that pressure on myself. When I step on stage, I try to be the truest version of myself, as Carole is so true. The producers don't give us any pressure to sound like Carole as that would add a lot of pressure. I try to sing and feel the words in those incredible songs. Describe yourself in 3 words? Joyful, grounded, and humorous. What do you do for fun? I love to run, and I am a basketball player. I also love binge watching great TV, and I am

a foodie, so I love to eat great food. What's the best and worst things about being on the road? The best thing, especially with this show, is bringing the show to smaller communities who may not have a chance to see something of this caliber. The worst is the constant travel, as its hard on your body and your voice. How hard is it to be away from your boyfriend? It's very challenging. We also have two dogs and a cat. We try and facetime as frequently as we can, and we still feel like we are connected. What should our readers expect from this touring company of “Beautiful”? Well, I always say you may not always think you know Carole Kings song, but I guarantee you will know most of the songs. In addition, you will see an incredible story, with iconic music. “HEALTHY” FOOD CHOICES You're trying to make healthy choices when you shop and prepare meals, so why are you still fighting the battle of the bulge? Perhaps you need to review your nutritional plan and learn to make wiser choices at the grocery store. Take time to read labels and check for things like sodium content as well as fat and calories. Below are 10 foods to avoid when you shop and eat. Remember when rice cakes were considered healthy snack choices? 102 | HotspotsMagazine.com
Wrong. Rice cakes contain considerable amounts of carbs that can stimulate unwanted fat storage and slow your body's ability to lose fat. In addition, the flavored variety contain loads of salt. Apples, pears and citrus are good sources of complex carbohydrates and fiber. Fruit juice on the other hand, is calorie-dense because it's high in sugar. One cup can contain anywhere from 110 - 250 calories most of which are refined sugar. Juices also lack the great fiber contained in fresh fruit.
Avoid dried fruits which contain higher concentrations of sugar than fresh fruit. Plain oatmeal is a great low-glycemic index carbohydrate food which is also superb for lowering LDL (bad cholesterol). Flavored instant oatmeal packets are often loaded with sugar and synthetic flavors and contain little of the nutritional value of steel cut pure oatmeal. Muffins are a popular breakfast food, but as far as their nutritional value, you may as well eat cake. An English muffin or a couple of slices of whole grain bread are wiser selections. A green salad sounds like a great idea for a healthy lunch. But once you cover it in chunky, creamy, high fat dressing, you're better off having a burger. Go for low fat, or fat free dressings or better yet, try oil and vinegar on your salad. Deep six the added goodies that crank up calories and fat. Chicken and fish are excellent protein sources. Breaded chicken and fish in restaurants and in most fast-food joints are usually fried and may provide you with ample protein, but they also contain high amounts of unhealthy fat. Luncheon meats can be tempting on a salad or in a sub, but many are high in fat, sodium and even sugar. If deli meats are your only option, make sure you chose fresh, low-fat items like lean turkey and
chicken. Avoid processed meats like bologna, salami and ham. Yogurt is a better selection for your sweet tooth cravings than ice cream. What many people don't realize is that while frozen yogurt may contain less fat than ice cream, it can still be high in carbs and calories. A couple of regular sodas throughout the day may quench your thirst and give you a lift, but a 16oz. can of regular cola can contain over 200 calories. Diet sodas contain questionable sugar substitutes and can disrupt insulin levels. A cocktail is a great relaxing way to end the day. Even a couple of drinks can interfere with the body's metabolism of nutrients, especially protein. Drinking depletes your system of vitamins, especially B vitamins and causes you to retain water. That's why you feel tired and achy after a night of partying and drinking.

Dear Charlie, I think you already know the logical answer. You guys are clearly in two different frames of mind. You want sex, and he wants more. The longer you engage, the more likely it is that his feelings are going to grow. Also, the longer you let this go on without addressing it, the greater chance there is of you hurting him. You don't have to see her or deal with her opinions anymore. Now your focus is solely your husband. Regardless of how you felt about her, it clearly means a lot to him for you to go. This is a one-time event, and how you handle this, could have an impact negatively or positively for the duration of your marriage. If you can hold it together for one day, I guarantee you it will pay off.
