Ben Bakson Wraps up his Worldwide Promo TourFor His Second Original Song, “Ain't Moving On” Featuring Caddy and Duncan James

30 | HotspotsMagazine.com

DJ Ben Bakson is wrapping up his worldwide tour, promoting “Ain`t Moving On,” his high-energy club track about being swept up in an inescapable crush. “Relationships can be all-consuming,” says the DJ from Sao Paulo where he appears regularly. “Even when we know someone is unavailable or not the best fit for us, it can be hard to quell the intense feelings.” He premiered “Ain`t Moving On” in Australia at Sydney's Mardi Gras and Chile when he headlined Santiago's big Candyland XLSIOR event. “Ain`t Moving On” follows “Sound of Love,” Ben's smash dancefloor anthem that features the vocals of Caddy (of the German pop group, Banaroo). The new single pairs Caddy with Duncan James, the former lead singer of the British boyband, Blue. “Ain`t Moving On” is being distributed independently and is available on Apple Music, Spotify and all digital platforms, along with its remixes by Dan Slater, Nina Flowers, Phil Romano, Lucas Franco, Eversend and Aurel Dev. Ben's music style is commercial with hard, emotional, and energetic beats. Vocals are important to him as he believes that they are the soul of every song. In addition to his original compositions, he is noted for re-working famous songs from the 80s and 90s, as he did recently with Cutting Crew's “(I Just) Died in your Arms”. “It's fun to recreate past hits with fresh vocalists and modern, driving melodies,” he explains. “Ultimately, I want to see smiles on all the faces in my crowd,” he continues. “I want people to feel hope, love and confidence when on my dance floor. Music is the most powerful instrument in the world. It changes everything.” As he just released his next single “You Got Me” we thought it a perfect time to sit down with Ben for this exclusive Hotspots interview: When did you realize you wanted to be a DJ? I always had a big passion for

music, but around 6 years ago is when I realized I wanted to be a DJ. At some point I wanted to influence the music I was listening to in clubs, so I decided to get into it. I practiced for a long time, probably hundreds of hours as a hobby, and then my career took off very fast without putting any pressure on it. Where are you from? and what brought you to South Florida? I'm from Germany. I grew up in South Germany, but I lived almost everywhere in Germany. In Berlin I studied Economics and Law. I moved to Miami during the pandemic as I always loved Miami and the weather. What was your first residency, and how did that feel? I was very lucky as Excelsior Festival in Mykonos was my first residency. I knew the owner, and he saw me playing a few times and believed in me. He definitely took a chance on me. This year, I will be headlining the main event. What separates you from other DJs? I think I have my own sound signature. I think the most important thing is when you hear a DJ, you know who it is. What are some memorable moments from the DJ booth? One of the most memorable was Excelsior 2019 when I headlined the sold-out beach party. When the sun was going down it was so magical. Another happened in Sao Paulo where I DJ'd in Temple, a massive new club, on its first day open. The owner came to me to hug me in the middle of my set and the whole dance floor started applauding. This was an amazing moment in my career. Other than DJing, what do you like to do for fun? I love to be with my Dog, and I love to be with close friends. I am very picky with people I spend my time with, but I do have some wonderful friends. I also like to go to movies, work out at the gym and walk on the beach. To me, the little things are important. Describe yourself in 3 words? Dedicated, fun, and loving. HotspotsMagazine.com | 31

When you are touring what do you miss the most from Miami? My dog, but he stays at an amazing dog hotel where I get videos sent to me 2 to 3 times a day. Where did “Ain't Movin On” come from…What inspired you to write it? I worked together with 2 amazing singers who are famous in Europe. The inspiration for the song was when I am really in love with someone its really hard to let go and that's what the song talks about. Tell me about your next Song “You Got Me?” Omeo from Australia is the singer. When we met in Australia, we totally connected, and we said we had to work together. When he showed me the lyrics, I fell in love with it. It's a bit more serious. Its about toxic people who lie to you. How does your production of “You Got Me” compare with other songs you have done? 32 | HotspotsMagazine.com

“I want people to feel hope, love and confidence when on my dance floor.”

I love clean uplifting sounds, so I think all my songs are energetic, but the message in “You Got Me” is much more powerful. So far, it's my favorite song. I am really in love with this song. Have you premiered the track on your dancefloor? I did. I played it in Sao Paulo this past weekend and the weekend before in Washington DC at Echo Stage. What was the reaction? In both places the reaction was amazing. What does the future hold for you? My strategy is to evolve my sound more and more. I see the straight and gay environments growing together in the party world. I want to create a sound that works for everybody. For more information on DJ Ben Bakson, go to Ben_Bakson.

Go-Go for the gods The Finale By Scott Holland

Johnny tells the top 4 that they will take part in a multi-tiered media challenge. They first will be doing a photo shoot where they will style themselves with H&S Imagery (exclusive photographers of Hey Queen). They will then do an interview with a reporter and then a TikTok promoting themself that will include their Go-Go 48 | HotspotsMagazine.com

signature moves. In addition, they need to sell one of the Andrew Christian Underwear's of their choice. Finally, they must walk the runway. Before the runway show, they come back to the work room, and they see all the eliminated contestants there and are shocked. Johnny tells the top 4 that the eliminated contestants are back. He then takes a long pause and tells them that the eliminated contestants are just back to walk the runway show. The top 4 will walk the runway in their outfits and then the six eliminated contestants will walk. When they are done the top 4 have to be ready to walk again in their second outfit. Johnny warns them that if they are not ready the judges will take notice. After the runway it is time for the judges to pick the top two and they choose AJ, who was chosen as the winner of the multimedia challenge and Rico. It was a pleasure to sit down with the two eliminated contestants, Bryant and Ken, for this exclusive Hotspots Interview:

|||| BRYANT

How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been Go-Go dancing for about a year now (I was only dancing 3 months, when we shot the show). However, I have been a dancer all my life and started competing in dance at 17. One day randomly when I was in between jobs I submitted an audition tape to the Abbey and they accepted me. I have been there full time ever since. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? That's my real name. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for?

It's all about legs for me and I dance in heels. I am also known for doing lots of high kicks and showing how flexible and strong my legs are. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I saw the casting call and I submitted right away. I got cast and then got a bit nervous, but I was excited and honored. I was super happy to make the top 4. Do you wish you would have done anything differently? I brought a lot of good looks, but by the end of the season I used them all up. I wish I would have kept some of my amazing looks for the finale. Before they announced the winner, which of the two finalists did you want to win and why? I was happy with Rico winning as he is an amazing dancer and performer. He is very professional, and he is a dancer that works in the industry. Are single, if so, what are you looking for in a man? (Married…what makes him the perfect guy for you) I am single. If there is any man out there with an 8 pack or 8 million dollars, or both, contact me. In all seriousness, I want someone who likes to have a good time, and I would be very open to dating another dancer. What does the future hold for you? I am in the process of getting into performing in drag, my name is Margaux Addiction. However, Bryant is not going away; I will still be working as a Go-Go boy. I also want to explore the entertainment industry more as well as explore LA more. I haven't had a chance to see a lot of the city. Is there anything I didn't ask you that you want to talk about? Yes, I was very happy being the only person in heals and to represent the feminine side of Go-Go boys. I am hoping there are little girls, boys or non-binary folks that see their selves in

me and can then be their true selves. >> Follow Bryant at Insta.com/thebryantsantos

|||| KEN

How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I started Go-Go dancing on Jan 1 of 2019. I had a friend who was a Go-Go dancer and I asked him how to get into it. Beforehand I was a teacher's assistant, and I wasn't making enough money. I needed to figure out a way to make more money. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? I chose Ken because my real name is long, and I felt like people couldn't understand me when I would say it. I thought I was supposed to be this hot perfect doll and that's why I chose “Ken.”

Ken HotspotsMagazine.com | 49

Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? Yes, I do this thing where I turn and raise my knee at the same time. I also do a lot of other turns. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I was happy, but I was really just happy for the chance to be on TV and compete for money at something I know I am great at. Also, it was great to be part of something that is new and different and something I felt was missing from our repertoire as a community. Do you wish you would have done anything differently? Yes, I wish I listened less to other people. I got in my own way when I started thinking about what other people were doing. I should have just focused on doing me the best. Before they announced the winner, which of the two finalists did you want to win and why? I wanted Rico to win because as far as Go-Go dancing he is a stronger representation to the community. He is also much more relatable. Are single, if so, what are you looking for in a man? (Married…what makes him the perfect guy for you) I have a partner. We are both musicians; he is a DJ, and I went to music school. Music is my main passion and he and I are connected through that. What does the future hold for you? I am going to be more focused on the stories that I want to tell the world. Hopefully via music but I am open to other avenues as well. >> Follow Ken at Insta.com/i_ken_xy AJ And Rico then has the last challenge which Johnny explains is the strip down head-to-head and they

AJ need to serve it up. Afterwards the judges deliberate and then Johnny announces that the winner is...Rico. It was a pleasure to sit down with the 1st runner up AJ and then the winner of the inaugural season of Go-Go for the Gold, Rico!

|||| AJ

How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been go-go dancing on and off for over 10 years, and I got into it as people were always telling me “You are such a good dancer you should Go-Go.” I never thought I would do it, but then an opportunity came up and I needed the extra cash and here I am. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? AJ is my real initials. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for?

No, I don't have a signature move as I always change my move depending on the audience. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I was excited, but I also thought they made the right choice as I didn't know anyone who could out Go-Go me. But then I got more excited for filming to start to see who the other Go-Go's were. Do you wish you would have done anything differently? Yes and no. Yes, because I should have shown a bit more of my range in the beginning, but I was injured while we were shooting. A week prior to shooting I had a motorcycle accident, but I didn't want to bring it up on the show as I didn't want sympathy. And no because everything happened for a reason. Did you think you should have won and why? Yes, I think I should have won as my trajectory was a steady climb. It wasn't an

Winner: Rico

up and down. Also, the last challenge was supposed to be a strip off and I think I gave them that. Are single, if so, what are you looking for in a man? (Married…what makes him the perfect guy for you) I am single and what I am looking for in a partner is communication, personal goals for themselves, drive, someone who is spiritual and a giver and a sharer. What does the future hold for you? Honestly endless and boundless. Not even the sky is the limit. >> Follow AJ at Insta.com/theamayajahmeal

|||| RICO

How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been Go-Go dancing for 16 years and I got into it the second I turned 18 as I needed fast cash and I wanted to show off. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name?

I liked being called Rico because I like it when guys say “Que Rico” when we are being intimate. And I picked TV to stand for “Top Verse.” Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? I am basically known for my legs and my acrobatics. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I was very excited, and I feel like I have been unconsciously preparing for this moment my whole life. Do you wish you would have done anything differently? Honestly, no. I feel like I did everything naturally and honestly. How excited were you to win and what are you going to do with the $10,000? I was very excited to win as I have never

won anything in my entire life. I am going to invest the $10 grand right back into my brand. Are you single, if so, what are you looking for in a man? (Married…what makes him the perfect guy for you) I am completely single with a few boyfriends. What does the future hold for you? I plan on evolving into my own complete artist. I am no longer going to be a backup dancer; I am going to be the main attraction. Is there anything I didn't ask you that you want to talk about? Yes…Trans lives, should be the forefront of the conversation and all eyes are on them. As you see from the show, I am very supportive of my Trans brothers and sisters. >> Follow Rico, follow him at Insta.com/badkid_99

Pride Factory recently celebrated 26 years bringing our community the best in boutique gay wear, XXX Items, Greeting Cards, and much more. I think we all heard for a while now that they were moving out of their 13th street location, which they called home for 15 years, and moving onto the drive. Well, now it has happened and last weekend they opened in the shoppes of Wilton Manors. I took the opportunity to go over and meet with Owner Matt and Vice President Lori just a few days before they opened the doors at their new location.

Pride Factory Moves to Wilton Manors

By Scott Holland

56 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Why did you want to move? The neighborhood on 13th street is very stable but we really wanted to be in the heart of the gay community. We have wanted this for quite a while, but we could never find enough space to support our store. So, when opportunity presented itself, we jumped at the chance to discuss it. It seems like it took a while for you to move, what happened? First the lease negotiations took about 6 months, and then Unfortunately, due to Covid, there are many supply chain problems, and it took way longer then expected to receive the items we need. Are you worried about the rumors that this building may be torn down to

rebuild a big complex? No, we have a multi-year lease, and we are happy to work with the landlord for a new retail space in the new building when that happens. Is there any difference between the new store and the old store? Our formula works, so we don't plan on changing much. We also wanted to give back to the community by building out a beautiful space. At the request of the community, we have brought in more boutique brands. But rest assured the brands everyone has loved will still be around including, but not limited to: Addicted, St33le, Brown Dog, Cellblock 13 and more. In addition, the new store has 5 dressing rooms (the old store had 3), so our customers don't have to wait. One of the dressing rooms and a bathroom is handicapped accessible. We also tried to make check out easier with

the three registers now side by side for quick check out. With so many retail stores closing over the last few years, how do you manage to not only stay open but stay successful? We are laser focused on the gay community and what they want, we have a very loyal customer base. A lot of companies are “Me too” and we are not. For example, many years ago we started carrying 2xist, but when they became mainstream and could be bought at Macy's we stopped carrying them. We are a boutique store brand. In addition, we treat our employees well as they are our faces to the community. We have many loyal employees. It seems like this store is even bigger than the last. Am I correct? Yes, the retail floor space is bigger, so we are bringing the community a larger Pride Factory! Are you going to have the same hours? No, we are staying open later to cater to the community. The new starting hours are: Sunday – Thursday 11am to 9pm Friday and Saturday – 11am to 10pm.

The new location for Pride Factory is: 2282 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, FL 33305. For more info call them at 954.463.6600. Grand Opening Celebration soon!

8 Tips to Declutter

Your Home & Life for the Best Summer Yet By Christina Giaquinto

Summer is always an exciting time filled with beach get-togethers, lovely afternoons spent poolside with friends and family, road trips, and… decluttering! And I don't just mean putting the snow sleds and snowboards in storage and finally ridding all kitchen countertops of scattered mail — I mean giving your home and lifestyle a whole summer refresh! Decluttering both your living space and life could be key for ensuring you have the best summer yet. In my experience as the Professional Organizer and Brand Ambassador of Modular Closets (DIY customizable closet units that organize any space in your home), I have discovered a number of helpful decluttering tips. Here are 8 of these tried-and-true strategies I wanted to share:

1. Organize a grab-and-go station for pool and beach essentials.

Isn't it the worst when you are trying to leave for an outing and can't find your keys, cellphone, or other essentials? Don't let missing items put a damper on your summer festivities! Organize a bin by the front door or in the garage that contains summer essentials like sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, clean beach towels, and water bottles so you are always ready for any fun summer plans. Whether you are planning to spend the day splashing at the pool or your family decided to take a spontaneous trip to the beach, you will be prepared for any summer outing.

2. Write down 5 things you want to do this summer.

From camping excursions to trips to amusement parks, it seems like once summer hits there is almost TOO much you want to do. So, declutter your plans by organizing a summer bucket list! By taking pen to paper and consciously thinking of what you want to experience this season, you will truly be able to make your summer dreams a reality. Then, once you write down the top 5 must-do's, schedule each of them into your calendar. This will ensure you accomplish the bucket-list items and allow you to plan other activities around them.

4. Deep clean the windows.

The sun is shining and that means windows and porch screens are open. Deep cleaning the windows needs to be a must on your summer organizing to-do list, as it will help you enjoy the lovely sunny days to the fullest! If your windows are covered in grime and streaks from the snowy winter and rainy spring, take an hour or two to spray all of them with a cleaning solution and wipe them until they sparkle! You will smile every time you look through them and notice how clear and clean, they are.

3. Declutter last summer's essentials.

Garages and sheds tend to fill up with clutter from all the summers beforehand. Spend a day decluttering expired sunscreen, deflated pool floats, and broken beach chairs so that you will be able to replace ones that need to be replaced right away. Trust me, the last thing you would want is to arrive at a pool party and realize one of your kids' floats has a hole in it and won't work! By decluttering any items, you no longer need, you make space for all your new summer essentials which also frees energy for new memories.

5. Write down your home organizing goals.

Although the warmer months are filled with vacations, relaxation, and fun, the summer season is a great time to accomplish your home organizing goals. Have you been meaning to paint one or more of your rooms a new color? Do you really want to clean every single carpet and rug in your living space? Commit to one home organizing project you have wanted to do this year and allow yourself the summer to accomplish it. I highly recommend scheduling the project into your calendar so that there are plans set in stone to get it done! HotspotsMagazine.com | 61

6. Organize a travel station in your car.

Summertime is filled with road trips, family gatherings, adventure, beach trips, and travel, so it is paramount to have your car organized. First, do a deep clean. Yes, that means vacuuming under the seats and picking up all the stale Cheerios all over the floor. Once the car is deep cleaned, organize a summer station that you keep in the trunk. Some ideas of things to include are hats, sunglasses, wipes for sandy hands, and an extra pair of clothes for the kids in case a pool invite opens up. Preparation is key!

7. Organize your summer clothes.

Out with winter and in with summer! Spend an afternoon decluttering any summer clothes that you no longer love wearing or that don't fit and organize your closet, so all your summer clothes are front and center. For summer trunks, simply fold them like you would shorts and stack them neatly on top of each other.

8. Organize your garden tools.

Summer means your beautiful flowers and garden are ready to shine! If your garden tools have been buried in the garage or shed all year round, this is the time to declutter any rusty or broken tools and organize a garden bag for yourself this summer. Organizing a garden tool bag ensures you can focus on the love of gardening and not stress about finding what you need. Next to your garden tool bag, have your watering can ready to go as well. Staying organized means, you have a system in place and know where everything is.

To Wrap It All Up <<<<<<<<<<

Now that summer is here, make it a priority to declutter both your living space and lifestyle so that the season is nothing short of marvelous. Several ways to do this include organizing a grab-and-go station for pool and beach essentials and writing a bucket list of 5 must-do summer plans. Also, declutter last summer's essentials, deep clean the windows, and organize a travel station in your car. These are just a few ways to help ensure you have the best summer yet!

Derek Shaw is Helix Studio's Next “Top” Model By Skip Sheffield

80 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Derek Shaw was working at a fast-food restaurant in Orlando, Florida when he decided to take a chance and apply to Helix Studios. Three weeks later, he landed a role as a cabin caretaker in the Helix series Unromantic Getaway and was flown to Utah for his first ever gay adult shoot! Since then, he has appeared in several films including Shower Secrets and Beefcake and the Boy. Derek's 21, a full-time medical assistant, and he loves to work out. He lost his virginity with a guy at 18 but says he considers himself bisexual because

occasionally, he will crush on women. We spoke with Helix's 'top' model from his home in Orlando. You talk about finding love on your socials, but are you really ready to find love? I'm ready for love, but is love ready for me? Most mortal men fail to meet my exceedingly high standards. Would you date another adult film star? Maybe, but I'm an absurdly jealous lover. I typically go for well-established tight-laced military men, but I'll make an exception if he resembles Cameron Alborzoan. What gave you the courage to pursue an adult film career? No courage, whatsoever. I was just bored working in fast-food. How did you choose Helix? I took a look at some other studios. I decided on Helix because I didn't want to risk being the smallest in stature. Who are your closest friends at Helix?

“What truly broke me is when an adult I trusted flicked my nipples and laughed. It took all my willpower to not cry. At 13, I started wearing thick shirts and hoodies... I love Garrett Kinsley. I call him my Garrett carrot. Also, Aiden, cause he's so cute, I'm obsessed. And Asher, because I think he's juicy. The guys at Helix all seem so close. Does it ever get weird having sex with your friends? Having friends in general is weird. In between sets, to keep it off my mind, I watch Minecraft Speedbuilds or I dance around a summoning circle with Garrett. What is something your fans would be surprised to learn about you? I'm actually four raccoons in a trench coat. You have been open about your gynecomastia. Can you explain what that is? Gynecomastia is when men have a fatty growth right behind their nipples, almost like a woman's breast. It's typically caused by a hormone imbalance. I developed gynecomastia around the time when puberty hit full swing. How did it affect your self-esteem as a child? My classmates would often mock me with cruel comments like “you should get a bra” or call me “bitch tits.” Then they would call me a crybaby for getting upset. What truly broke me is when an adult I trusted flicked my nipples and laughed. It took all my willpower to not cry. At 13, I started wearing thick shirts and hoodies, even in the heat of Floridian summers. I tried binding my chest with tape. I couldn't take the daily bullying. I used to cry myself to sleep while I gave myself bruises trying to crush my chest in. That's awful! Doctors kept telling me my breasts HotspotsMagazine.com | 81

would go away if I lost weight. At around 14, I decided it was time to do something about my body. I began by taking a soccer ball and kicking it up and down a steep hill. I timed myself until I was bright red, dizzy, and covered in grass. It didn't help much. For my 15th birthday, I got a bench set from my parents and used it every single day and started to see improvements. I was on an adrenaline high. I finally felt happy with who I was becoming. How important is fitness to you today? It is everything! The gym is my sanctuary and where I go to get away from it all. What is your typical fitness routine? I work out for two hours every day. I'll sometimes give myself a break day or two, but I'm always itching to get back. Do you follow a strict diet? I am a slave to my diet. Seldom do I let myself enjoy ice cream or eat a stack of pancakes. I love eating salmon, mangos, and coconuts. Real tropical vibes! Salads are cool, too, I guess.

What do you love most about your body today? Do you have a favorite part? My favorite part of my body are my fists. I consider myself a fighter. If I die, just know I went down swinging. Is it true that you ended up in the ER recently? Yes, I was having difficulty breathing, even when I laid down in bed. My chest was aching in pain as if I was being squeezed. I kept getting lightheaded and falling down. I swear it felt like a heart attack. Turns out it was a panic attack! I wasn't even feeling panicked the moment it occurred, just stressed, then boom! I thought I was gonna die. Are you working to keep your stress down? For sure! I've been giving myself lots of rest and relaxation. I'm also planning to travel more! I'm planning trips to Oslo, London, Nice, Copenhagen, and maybe Paris… not sure, Paris sounds scary. Will you be performing at any clubs or making special appearances in London or in any cities? No… wait, how do I do that? What are your goals for the future? Nothing, really. I could die tomorrow or in 100 years. I just want to have fun and, you know, annoy people. Care Resource Opens New Midtown Miami Health Center

Reimagines the Delivery of Community Health 88 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Care Resource, a South Florida-based nonprofit and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), announces the opening of its new Midtown Miami location at 3510 Biscayne Blvd. According to Care Resource's CEO, Rick Siclari, “Our new health center significantly expands access to health services and transforms the delivery of vital health care and social services for Miami's rapidly growing populations.” Care Resource's new and innovative approach toward health care is reflected in

the design of its Midtown Miami health center. “Visiting your doctor can often feel cold, impersonal, and stressful. We designed our health center to be inviting and welcoming for all our patients. This warm and relaxing atmosphere removes the stress and lets our patients know they're in good hands,” Siclari explains. “The aesthetics support comfort with open spaces, large murals and artwork, and cozy colors that feel more at home, which contributes to improved physical and emotional wellness. In addition, the new health center incorporates Miami Modernist architecture (MiMo) - a regional style of architecture that developed in South Florida and can be observed along the Biscayne Boulevard corridor. As the gap for health care access widens each year for underserved populations, this health center is poised to further serve those individuals that might otherwise be lost to care. Once the Midtown Miami health center reaches its capacity, it is estimated to provide medical and pediatric care to more than 7,000 individuals with over 21,000 annual visits. Additionally, the new dental care services are estimated to see a substantial increase. Additional services include behavioral health, HIV prevention and linkage, social support services, and access to healthy

food and nutritional counseling through the health center's Food for Life food pantry and nutritional center. These resources complement an array of comprehensive programs that address key social determinants of health, including housing assistance. As an accredited Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), all the health center's services are delivered in one location and raise the bar in defining highquality care. “This health center goes a long way toward building a healthier community. When people have access to affordable and high-quality primary care, they won't delay seeking assistance for health concerns, thus avoiding an emergency, and enjoying better health outcomes,” states Siclari. For almost four decades, Care Resource has provided affordable, high-quality healthcare and support services to the most under-resourced and diverse medically underserved populations. As one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in South Florida, Care Resource has four locations throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. As a safety net for thousands of lowincome, uninsured, and underinsured individuals, Care Resource's patients reflect the unique diversity of the local area, including people of color, women, children, adolescents, adults, veterans, and others, and maintains a longstanding commitment to providing services for the LGBTQIA+ and HIV communities. Care Resource's doors are open to all in need, regardless of the ability to pay. For more information visit careresource.org

LIGHT A FIRE UNDER YOUR WORKOUTS

AND ENJOY A HOT, SEXY SUMMER! This summer stop complaining about the heat and use the season to strip down, pump it up, and show it off! You may not have the cash or the time to vacation up north or in Europe, but why not enjoy yourself right here in South Florida. Take advantage of a little free time to assess your fitness goals, revamp your workouts, and find a few new activities where you can sweat and have a 100 | HotspotsMagazine.com

grand time while you're doing it? Adjust your schedule, find a time that works, and put exercise at the top of your daily agenda. If you can, opt for morning workouts. Studies show that people who discipline themselves to rise earlier are more likely to become habitual exercisers. Staying in bed a few moments longer may seem enticing, but if you get up and get moving, you'll be less tired, more motivated, and more

productive all day. If a morning workout isn't feasible because of your schedule, then make exercising something positive and fun to look forward to all day long. Join a gym that is conveniently located between home and the office. Sign up for group classes with like-minded friends. Pack a gym bag and keep it in your car. After a tough day at work, think of all those hot dudes in the locker room and on the gym-floor just waiting for you to join in the sweaty fun! Find a routine that is fun and stick with it. Maybe you found Pilates boring, or you pulled a groin muscle during the first session of CrossFit. That doesn't mean you should throw in the towel and put on your grumpy face. Find a form of exercise that helps you blow off steam and escape from the humdrum of daily life. Whether it's signing up for a Zumba class with a hot, high-energy instructor, or hiring a personal trainer for his guidance and expertise, search and discover a fitness activity that works for you. Find a buddy and wrestle on the beach. Hint, if you look up at the clock and find that an hour has passed too quickly and you're hot, sweaty, and enjoying yourself, then

you've found your niche. Set tangible goals that are fun and sexy. Perhaps you're pulling out all the stops at the gym so that you can wear a new swimsuit or look hot on that distant cruise. Maybe it's a playlist of songs that you listen to on the treadmill. Reward your grueling workout with lunch at your favorite place afterward. Associate exercising with the positive things in life and you'll see it less as drudgery and more as something exhilarating and rewarding. Use technology to help you reach your personal best. If you are into high tech gadgets and numbers, find apps, computer programs and other fitness trackers that can help you count steps and calories. Concrete figures and statistics are positive reinforcement, and you can proudly display them on social media. Be patient with yourself; it takes a good six weeks to see a body transformation. Yet, the feeling of empowerment and sense of accomplishment you'll feel begins and grows with each workout.

In Their Own Words

Female Voices on Overturning Roe vs. Wade By Maria Espinal

On Friday, June 24th history was made, and for many for the worst, when the United States Supreme Court held that the Constitution does not protect the fundamental right to abortion, overruling the landmark decisions Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, in a 6-3 ruling. What will be next?

112 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Ironically, six days after this decision (June 30th), a positive historic day came about when Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in as the 116th Justice and first African-American woman to serve. Here is what some female voices had to say about overturning Roe vs. Wade:

Vice President Kamala Harris t @VP “Let me be clear: Each person has the right to make decisions about their own life—decisions such as the right to start a family, use contraception, and marry the person you love. To those of you who feel alone and scared: I want you to know the President and I are fighting for you and your rights. We are in this fight together. Millions of women in America will go to bed tonight without access to the health care and reproductive health care they had this morning. Without access to the same health care or reproductive health care their mothers and grandmothers had for 50 years.”

Former First Lady, Michelle Obama t @michelleobama “...I am heartbroken that we may now be destined to learn the painful lessons of the time before Roe was made law of the land — a time when women risked losing their lives getting illegal abortions...” U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin t @senatorbaldwin “...Republicans have taken Wisconsin women back to 1849 and it is Republicans who want to keep us there with support for having politicians interfere in the freedoms of women who will now have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers have had for decades. I ask people to join this fight with their voices and votes...” Joni Madison, Human Rights Campaign Interim President t @hrc_president “Make no mistake—this decision goes far beyond abortion. It's critical to understand first and foremost: reproductive rights are LGBTQ+ rights. LGBTQ+ people need abortion care, and this will have a devastating, immediate impact on all of us. And today's decision will embolden our opponents and encourage state lawmakers pandering to their base to test the limits of court-recognized LGBTQ+ equality. So today — let's turn our anger into action! Let's take to the streets. Let's make our voices heard.” Mary L. Trump • t @maryltrump “The scope of this horrific SCOTUS decision is vast. But I keep thinking my daughter—all of our daughters are now second-class citizens.”

Imani Rupert-Gordon, NCLR Executive Director • t @ImaniRG “...The majority opinion states that liberty, supposedly guaranteed to us all by the Constitution, is defined by an era when women of any race could not vote, hold property, or legally exist apart from their husbands, and when the citizenship rights of Black women and other women of color were nonexistent. There is hardly a more egregious assault on individual liberty than forcing someone to be pregnant against their will.” Cher • t @Cher “Today, Trump's Radical (Republican) Supreme Court became responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of American women. They can't be prosecuted but make no mistake…they are guilty! What other rights (we take for granted) are next!? Be afraid, be very afraid!”

Kierra Johnson, National LGBTQ Task Force's Executive Director • t @kierradc “...This decision by the conservative majority on the bench also marks the beginning of the vital work to re-establish our constitutional foundation for reproductive justice and freedom. We must redouble our work to protect access to abortion and reproductive justice at the state and national levels.”

Rep. Liz Cheney t @replizcheney “I have always been strongly pro-life. Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court returns power to the states and the people of the states to address the issue of abortion under state law.”

HotspotsMagazine.com | 113

Elizabeth F. Schwartz, Esq., Attorney and Activist t @SchwartzOutLaw “This is a devastating decision which could have impact on all of us in the LGBTQ+ because many of our privacy rights rest on those developed by Roe and its progeny. It's hard to know what will happen in the future—these are truly uncharted waters as the U.S. Supreme Court has never removed a fundamental right—but it's clear that many women will not have access to comprehensive medical care related to their reproductive health, particularly poor women and women of color, and will suffer mightily as a result. But for those specifically worried about their marriages, please don't. Your existing marriage won't be voided. If you're married, you're married. And there are no pending cases to roll back this right. Marriage equality doesn't appear to be in the crosshairs of this Court or of conservatives generally. It appears they are too busy denying bodily autonomy to pregnant people, trans and gender nonbinary people.”

Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO • t @sarahkateellis “Our bodies, healthcare and our future belong to us, not to a meddling politician or extremist Supreme Court justices, and we will fight back. We will never go back to the dark days of being shut out of hospital rooms, left off of death certificates, refused spousal benefits, or any of the other humiliations that took place in the years before Obergefell. Between this threat and today's reversal of abortion rights, we can no longer trust that the Supreme Court is operating in the interests of the majority of Americans.” Alexis McGill Johnson, Planned Parenthood president and CEO “The Supreme Court has now officially given politicians permission to control what we do with our bodies...Make no mistake: if they can take away the right to abortion, they won’t stop here. All of our freedoms are on the line.”

Human Rights Campaign Fact Sheet Demonstrates Impact Roe Reversal Would Have on LGBTQ+ People In early June 2022, HRC released a fact sheet that highlights the importance of the protections enshrined in Roe to members of the LGBTQ+ community, which now illustrates the devastating impact facing marginalized communities in the wake of the Dobbs decision. The data shows that LGBTQ+ women who have been pregnant are more likely to have had unwanted or mistimed pregnancies than heterosexual women and are more likely to need abortion services as well. • Specifically, the report found Lesbian (22.8%) and bisexual (27.2%) women who have been pregnant are more likely than heterosexual women (15.4%) who have been pregnant to have had an abortion, according to a new analysis of the 20172019 National Survey for Family Growth 114 | HotspotsMagazine.com

(NSFG) conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. • Over half (56%) of lesbian women who have been pregnant, and approximately two-thirds (65.3%) of bisexual women who have been pregnant, have ever had a mistimed pregnancy—one which occurred earlier in life than they would have liked—compared with less than half (47.6%) of heterosexual women. • Over a third of lesbian women seeking abortion had experienced physical abuse (33.3%) or sexual abuse (34.6%) from the individual who got them pregnant. • 7.1% of bisexual women had experienced sexual abuse from the person who got them pregnant, and almost 9% had experienced physical abuse. Judges need to have the expertise to evaluate productions, and have experience in one or more of the following areas: + An academic background in theater, either through past theater education or current affiliation with a college or university program.

Dear Andreus, I have been dating someone, and recently found out after several months, that he has been sleeping with someone else. I feel violated, and like my health has been put at risk because he told me in the beginning that he was only interested in me. Now I find myself making a trip to the clinic because of his dishonesty. I am furious. I don't know if I can trust him anymore, but I really like him, so I am not sure I want to leave. I don't know what to do. Sincerely, Junior S. Dear Junior, Trust is an important thing, and so is honesty. But even more important is being realistic. We are gay men; therefore, you must always assume every possible outcome and protect yourself. Even though there may have been a conversation where it was assumed that you were only sleeping with each other, you should always assume otherwise. I agree that if he was sleeping with others, he should have told you, but you must take some of the responsibility as well. I cannot tell you where to go from here as far as staying with him or not, but there definitely needs to be open communication and transparency if you stay. Dear Andreus, I went out of town recently for work, and due to unforeseen circumstances, I came home early. My partner and I do not live together but have keys to each other's apartments. I decided to go over and surprise him. I carefully 126 | HotspotsMagazine.com

unlocked the door, to sneak up on him with hugs and kisses, but instead I overheard him in his room making sexual noises. When I peeked through the crack of the door, he was engaging in sex with another guy. They never saw me, and I left. I have not told him anything yet, because I am waiting to see if he is going to say anything. Should I confront him or not? Sincerely, Javier P. Dear Javier, If you plan to remain in this relationship, then you should certainly say something. Maybe he wanted to be caught? I cannot think of any other reason to give someone full access to your place and then do something like that, knowing the possibility of being discovered. For the sake of honesty and self-preservation you not only have the right to bring it up, but to hear whatever explanation he has to give you for why this occurred. At that point, you must decide what you do with the information. I hope this helps.
