OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival 14th Annual Fort Lauderdale Edition Launches October 13th
The 14th Annual Fort Lauderdale Edition of OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival will take place Oct.13 to Oct. 23, with an opening night celebration at the NSU Art Museum with the film The Blue Caftan at 7pm.
The Blue Caftan - 118 minutes; In Arabic with English subtitles; Country: Morocco/France/Belgium/Denmark, 2022; Genre: Bisexual, Fiction, Foreign, Gay, Romance
Halim and Mina own a small tailor shop that specializes in gorgeous caftans. Halim is a stubborn proponent of traditional handcrafted work, but it is time-consuming. So, they decide to hire an assistant, Youssef. The presence of the attractive gay young man arouses long-suppressed feelings in Halim, something that does not go unnoticed by his wife Mina.
By Scott HollandThis is not the film I thought it was going to be, but rather a film that explores different kinds of love. Romantic Love, Familial Love, and friendship love. The writing and direction of this film is excellent, but kudos to the casting director for casting these three leads: Saleh Bakri plays Halim, Lubna Azabal plays Mina and newcomer Ayoub Missioui plays Youssef. There were
times when no words were said, and my heart still skipped a beat. The power that these three actors have on their own and with each other is a movie masterpiece. Watch out for newcomer Ayoub Missioui, as I see big things happening for him in his acting career.
The after party will feature catering by Chef Josie and drinks by Bacardi as well as Belly Dancing entertainment.
The other movies being shown the first week are: Three Headed Beast, Blessed Boys, Unconventional (series), So Damn Easy Going, Lucky, It Runs in the Family, Phea, It Is In Us All, Single, Out (series), You Can Live Forever, In From The Side, God Saves The Queen, Huesera, Shall I compare You to a Summer's Day?, Where the girls Are: Ladies Shorts Program, Long Live my Happy Head, Where The Men Are: Men's Shorts Program, Paloma, Like Me, Heartbeast, Will-O-The-Wisp, All Kinds Of Love, The return of Tanya Tucker Featuring Brandi Carlile (Ladies Centerpiece), and All Man: The Story of International Male (Centerpiece).
On Thursday, October 20 – Outshine present theirs Centerpiece film sponsored by Truist; All Man: The International Male Story at 7pm at Savor Cinema (503 SE 6the St); 83 minutes; In English; Documentary, Gay, Historical
I grew up in a very conservative family and neighborhood in NYC, and before I even realized I was gay, I had an unusual attachment to the International Male Catalogue. I know I am one of tens of thousands of men who lusted after the perfect models in their catalogues. We also thought if we bought their clothing, we would look like their models. I couldn't wait to get the next catalogue and of course hide it from my family. Year later when I had a family wedding in California I stayed in West Hollywood and imagine my surprise when I happened upon an International male store (I didn't know th ey had a brick and mortar); I was like a kid in a candy store.
All Man: The International Male Story journeys across three decades of the International Male catalog's unlikely but
lasting impact on fashion, masculinity, and sexuality in America. Gene Burkard, a oncecloseted Midwesterner, and GI found freedom in San Diego, where he transformed men's fashion into something cosmopolitan, carefree, and trendsetting.
This character-driven documentary crafts a portrait of a band of outsiders who changed the definition of masculinity, the way men would look at themselves and at each other, and how the world would see them. This is their story, a modern-day fairy tale about a dream that really did come true. This is also a story of International Male's cultural impact on the gay rights movement, and it's an important reminder that preserving queer cultural is important!
Following the movie there will be a fashion show by Mix, Men's Designer Clothes and dessert catering by Jay Caplan and an open bar by Bacardi.
After the Centerpiece, the movies are Rex Gildo/The Last Dance, El Houb, The Five
Devils (ladies spotlight), Lonesome, Elephant, Nelly & Nadine, #Lookatme, Breaking The Ice, Chrissy Judy, Horseplay, Balabanm Before I change My Mind, Petit Mal, Uyra: The Rising Forest, and the closing film: The Shiny Shrimps Strike Back.
On Sunday, October 23, is the Closing Night Film: The Shiny Shrimps Strike Back at 6pm at Savor Cinema (503 SE 6the St). Runtime 113 minutes; In French, Russian and English with English subtitles; Comedy, Fiction, Foreign, Gay, Musical, Sequel. This is the east coast premiere.
In the sequel to The Shiny Shrimps (Audience Award Winner at OUTshine Fort
Lauderdale 2019), the Shrimps Water Polo team are heading to the Gay Games in Tokyo, to honor a teammate who died. But after they miss their connection, they are stranded in homophobic Russia. Thus starts a crazy adventure that finds many of the Shrimps held hostage at a gay conversion camp while the rest of the group plans their comical yet perilous rescue. While uproariously funny, The Shiny Shrimps Strike Back does not shy away from skewering Putin's Russia in all its homophobic (anti) glory…and that is reason to laugh. Oh and a few great musical numbers are included!
The after party will feature lite bites and open bar by Bacardi as well as the announcements of the Audience Award winners.

Magic Mike Live Kicks Off American Tour in Miami on Oct. 13
Channing Tatum's production Magic Mike Live is kicking off its North American tour in Miami this fall premiering on October 13 at the Miami Marine Stadium. After performing sold-out shows to worldwide audiences in Las Vegas, London, Australia, and Berlin, this limited-run live dance and acrobatic experience will finally be bringing the heat to Miami.
By Scott HollandConceived and co-directed by Channing Tatum, Magic Mike Live is a thrilling, sexy, live dance and acrobatic spectacular based on the movies “Magic Mike” and “Magic Mike XXL” as well as the HBOMax series “Finding Magic Mike.” The 90-minute performance features some of the world's sexiest, most talented men performing heart-racing dance
routines in front of, above and all around you.
Equal parts empowering and exhilarating, the show is punctuated by unexpected, temperatureraising acts from a thrilling range of acrobatic stunts, dance performances under falling water and extravagant musical talent, sure to keep you hooked and ready for more.
Some of the talented dancers in the cast of Magic Mike Live who are essential to the success of the show are proud members of the LGBTQ+ community, and we found two of them, Edson, and Davis, to chat with us.
When did you start dance training?
Edson: I started training at 18 in high school during my senior year.
Davis: I started when I was 16 in Cheer in a performing arts high school. Trained all through college, and then went to a dance school and then started professionally.
What was your first professional (paid) dance gig?
Edson: I was on “So You Think You Can Dance” and for making the top 12 I went on tour and got paid.
Davis: I got signed for Hermes on my first audition, and that was my first paying gig.
When did you realize dance would be your career?
Edson: Growing up in a small town in Texas professional dance seemed so farfetched, but I realized the second I got on SYTYCD.
Davis: After that first audition, I realized this would be my career. Other than Magic Mike, what has been the highlight of your career so far?
Edson: I have been lucky enough to work with many big-name artists, but one of the first I got to do was a live residency for Ricky Martin. He was one of my idols growing up, so that's definitely a highlight.
Davis: When I did the “Side To Side” with Arianna Grande and Nicky Minaj. I was right next to Nicky in the video, and I had to pinch myself.
Davis Rahal“The way your experience can change from the seat you are in.”
How did you get cast in Magic Mike Live?
Edson: It was a long journey as I started auditioning for the first opening in 2016 but didn't get cast. They said I looked way too young. The second time, in 2019, I was cast as a swing. I did the London show but had to come back due to pandemic. After the pandemic they needed some spare guys in Vegas, so I did that for a couple months and then I was asked to do this tour.
Davis: It has al so been a long journey for me. I was originally hired for the brand from the London Promo performance. I went to London for 4 days, did the finale of Britain's Got Talent, and did the promo. I got to have the experience without being in it. I then did it for the Berlin Promo. At that point they asked me if I would be into being in the cast and I said yes if you do a US tour. A few months later I g ot a call, and I immediately said yes. What's your favorite part about the show?
Edson: The way your experience can change from the seat you are in. It's a 600-seat tent.
Davis: I agree with Edson, because the show is not one dimensional…it above you, behind you and all around you. Also, everything is top shelf. The other thing I love is the lap dance portion. You will get the best lap dance of your life. Are you taken or Single? If single what are you looking for in a man and if taken what makes your other half the perfect guy for you?
Edson: I am taken, and he is perfect due to the way he loves me day in and day out. He is so nurturing and makes sure I feel loved and appreciated. Davis: I am taken as well, and it will be 9 years on November 2. He is so special as he loves me for the best and the worst parts of me. He is also extremely loyal and makes me laugh. Define yourself in 3 words? Edson: Committed, loving and compassionate
Davis: Ambitious, loyal, and silly What do you do for fun?
Edson: I enjoy my alone time or my time at home. But in addition, I do love being
out and about, but these days its more dinner and wine.
Davis: Practically the same as Edson, but I am and extroverted extrovert. I charge up by being around people. I am very adventurous, and I like to horse back ride and go skiing, hiking and camping, etc.
Why should our readers come see Magic Mike Live?
Edson: Whether its your first or your 100th time, it's a different show depending on where you seat. We have every different type of guy, and they are all respectful and they know how to treat a man or a woman. If you want quality and a good experience, Magic Mike is the place for you to go. We get to make people smile and I really enjoy that.
Davis: Ditto!

Check Your Boobs, Touch Yourself Lesbian and Bisexual Women Are At a Higher Risk
By Maria EspinalOctober is here and you know what that means. Have you scheduled your mammogram yet? How many times have you heard that before? How many women do you know who are breast cancer survivors and how many women do you know who were not able to win their fight?
Feeling a lump on your breast, having a mammo and waiting for its results is nerveracking, I've been there. Fortunately for me, it was negative. I am a true believer in prevention and catching the “C” word at an early stage to win the fight.
The American Cancer Society says, “Some of the cancers that most often affect women are breast, colorectal, endometrial, lung, cervical, skin, and ovarian cancers. Lesbian and bisexual women may be at increased risk for breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer compared to heterosexual women.”
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States (some kinds of skin cancer are the most common). Black women die from breast cancer at a higher rate than white women. Most breast cancers are found in women who are 50 years old or older, but breast cancer also affects younger women.
According to Medical News Today, lesbian women are more at a higher risk of developing breast cancer due to smoking, weight, alcohol consumption, cancer screening and also because it is less likely that lesbian or gay women will become pregnant and will breastfeed, which reduces cancer risk.
Mammography Day
The third Friday in October is National Mammography Day, first proclaimed by President Clinton in 1993, as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Oct 21st, every woman is encouraged to make an appointment for a mammogram.
By having your mammogram done and performing a monthly breast self-exam, you will be able to identify any changes in your breasts. The American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer death rates
declined 40% from 1989 to 2016 among women. The progress is attributed to improvements in early detection. Be sure to talk to your health care professional if you notice any anything unusual. Women 40 to 44 should have the choice to start annual breast cancer screening with a mammogram if they wish to do so. Women age 45 to 54 should get a mammogram every year. Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every 2 years, or can continue to get a yearly mammogram.
A Change and How Breasts/Nipples Feel
1. Nipple tenderness or a lump or thickening in or near the breast or underarm area to.
2. A change in the skin texture or an enlargement of pores in the skin of the breast (some describe this like an orange peel's texture)
3. A lump in the breast
A change in the breast or nipple appearance
1. Any unexplained change in the size or shape of the breast.
2. Dimpling anywhere on the breast.
3. Unexpected swelling of the breast, especially if on one side only.
4. Unexplained shrinkage of the breast.
5. Recent asymmetry of the breasts
6. Nipple that is turned slightly inward or inverted
7. Skin if the breast, areola, or nipple that become scaly, red, swollen or may have ridges resembling the skin of an orange.
Any nipple discharge come up particularly clear discharge or bloody discharge. It is important to note that a milky discharge that is present when a woman is not breastfeeding should be checked by a doctor, although it is not linked with breast cancer.

Men and Breast Cancer
Although it is rare, men can get breast cancer. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man. Learn about symptoms of breast cancer in men and things that may increase your risk.
The most common kinds of breast cancer in men are the same kinds in women: - Invasive ductal carcinoma. The cancer cells begin in the ducts and then grow outside the ducts into other parts of the breast tissue. Invasive cancer cells can also spread, or metastasize, to other parts of the body. - Invasive lobular carcinoma. Cancer cells begin in the lobules and then spread from the lobules to the breast tissues that are close by. These invasive cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body. - Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a breast disease that may lead to invasive breast
cancer. The cancer cells are only in the lining of the ducts and have not spread to other tissues in the breast.
Symptoms & Risk Factors
The most common symptoms of breast cancer in men are: A lump or swelling in the breast. Redness or flaky skin in the breast. Irritation or dimpling of breast skin. Nipple discharge. Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area. These symptoms can happen with other conditions that are not cancer. If you have any symptoms or changes, make sure you see your doctor right away.
Risk factors are: Getting older, genetic mutations, family history, liver disease and certain conditions that affect the testicles.
All men can lower their risk by keeping a healthy weight and being physically active.

<<< Gabriela CarrilloThe New York Times says SIX “TOTALLY RULES!” (Critic's Pick) and The Washington Post hails SIX as “Exactly the kind of energizing, inspirational illumination this town aches for!"
The SIX: LIVE ON OPENING NIGHT Broadway album debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard cast album charts and surpassed 6 million streams in its first month.
The cast features Khaila Wilcoxon as Catherine of Aragon, Storm Lever as Anne Boleyn, Jasmine Forsberg as Jane Seymour, Olivia Donalson as Anna of Cleves, Didi Romero as Katherine Howard, and Gabriela Carrillo as Catherine Parr. The cast also includes Kelsee Kimmel, Erin Ramirez, Cassie Silva and Kelly Denice Taylor. It was a pleasure to sit down with Gabriela Carrillo who plays Catherine Parr for this exclusive Hotspots Interview: At what age did you begin performing? I think my first "performance" was probably a Suzuki method violin recital when I was 3 years old, but the real spark for performing was ignited, I'd say, in 3rd or 4th grade when I auditioned and performed in my elementary school musical, a show about Lewis & Clark. After that, I went on to play "Annie" in a community production, and shortly after, made my professional theatre debut as a cast member at the American Girl Theater in downtown Chicago! I caught the performing bug and everything just went from there! What was your first paid gig (any amount of money)?
I got paid $100 in middle school to sing at my teacher's daughter's wedding as she walked down the aisle. That was pretty cool for me as a 13-year-old; three digits to sing some Celine Dion. When did you know performing would be your career?
I think as someone who has always had a LOT of interests and whose parents' encouraged exploration of them all, it's difficult to say when it really "clicked" for me that I wouldn't be an ancient civilization archaeologist, a manga illustrator or a fantasy novelist but rather a professional performer... but performing as a career became a real goal for me in high school when I began songwriting. I would perform around Chicago on weekends accompanying myself on piano and guitar and released music regularly. At the time, I continued to do theater for fun but was extremely focused on a career as an artist and songwriter, which lead me to spend most of my summers at the program for high schoolers at Berklee College of Music. Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?
I'm not sure I can rank my roles in any way without giving a ton of explanation, because I've had such a special career so far in terms of playing roles I adore and connect with, but I really enjoyed the other Queen role I played back in California. I played Elsa at "Frozen: Live at the Hyperion" at Disneyland. It was the first time I had done any kind of theater where
children are the majority of the audience, and I was blown away by how much responsibility I felt being up on that stage. A different kind of pressure than I had ever felt; one that didn't frighten me but empowered me. I was constantly reminded of my childhood watching Disney shows and the magic they brought to my early years, and I felt like I had the opportunity to do the same every time I walked on stage. I felt like I never wanted to let them down. Making eye contact with these children who were truly witnessing what they feel is the most incredible real-life magic they've ever seen. I had to try not to cry from my heart melting at the end of every show! I only got to play the role for a few weeks because then COVID-19 shut Disney down and the show closed, but I will cherish those memories forever and ever.
for the next two years and leave the rest behind. Plus, I absolutely love traveling and seeing new cities and trying new restaurants everywhere I go. I guarantee, every city we go, I'm gonna leave saying, "I think I could live here."
How well do you and your castmates get along?
We have a really fun, supportive dynamic. A lot of us are touring for the first time and so having that support system is so wonderful. I think we all were also just so thrilled and thankful to be a part of this production; it was an intense audition process and we all wanted this so badly. We're so happy to be where we are, and that comes through at work. I also appreciate the level of honesty and authenticity we have with each other. We can really be honest about how we are feeling on any given night and the rest of the cast will give us support in whatever way we might need. The team did something special putting this group together.
What should our readers expect from this touring company of “Six”?
What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)?
I'd love to originate a role, for sure, but a bucket list role for me is Grizabella in CATS. I'm a sucker for CATS and I don't care who knows it. Is it hard being on the road all the time? It's certainly an adjustment. I find myself missing my family and friends a lot. You can't always make it to special events. I also have to spend my time very wisely; I can't stay out too late or party super hard because I have a daily show (sometimes 2) to show up for the next day. I have to be very cautious about how I use my body and voice in every moment, even when I'm off stage. Living with a reduced set of your belongings can be difficult too. I kind of had to choose what I wanted to have access to
This company is going to blow your mind. I am awed on stage every night by my castmates and am honored to perform beside them. We each give nothing less than 100%, every single time. We truly leave everything on that stage. I think this show is a must-see for musical theatre lovers AND skeptics alike. There's something for absolutely everybody. Incredible music, the fiercest dancing, insanely beautiful costumes, humor, history, empowerment, and the energy is a combination of a stadium pop concert, a Broadway musical, and maybe just a tiny bit of live standup. It's like no other Broadway production you've seen, I can promise that. I dare you to try to sit still the whole time.

IF YOU WANT THE BIGGEST ARMS EVER, WORK TRICEPS MORE!
Just about every guy and some girls I work with want toned, muscular and defined arms. Most clients have fun pumping biceps with a variety of curls. Whether you perform curls standing, seated, with dumbbells, barbells or cables, the movement is always the samegrasp the weight, rotate the forearm slightly and flex the elbow bringing the
weight all the way to your chin. More about biceps later, but if you want your best arms ever, the key is to work triceps more.
Triceps make up two-thirds of your upper arm, therefore it makes sense that the bigger and more defined they are, the more massive your arms will look. The triceps are used in every pushing, pulling and lifting movement as well as the extension of the elbow and
rotation of the forearm. Because of their larger size and their importance in just about every movement of the arm, you need to work tri's longer and harder than biceps. Hit triceps twice a week using 3-4 exercises of 3-4 sets of 812 repetitions.
Use free weights for triceps to give you a better range of motion and produce a fuller muscle. Machines are ok, but once again, free weights get better results. Always make sure to stretch your triceps especially as you conclude the workout. Stretching brings out the separations and detail in the muscle.
Close-grip bench presses: This exercise takes your triceps through their full range of motion. Lie face up on a flat bench, feet firmly planted on the floor. Take a barbell or E Z curl bar from the rack. Use a narrow grip so that your hands are only 23 inches apart. Keeping your elbows close to your body, lower the weight to your lower sternum, and immediately push upwards.
Triceps extensions: Start this exercise by holding a lat machine bar with your hands 2-8 inches apart. Now press downwards from your chin until your arms are straight (just barely locking out the elbow). Return and repeat. Most bodybuilders keep their elbows tucked in at their sides during this movement. This exercise can also be performed with a rope instead of a straight bar or lat machine bar.
Bent-over triceps kick backs: Don't be surprised if, upon examination, you find that one of your triceps is bigger or stronger than the other, this is common, and this exercise will help build strength and symmetry in both arms. Hold a dumbbell in one hand and hold on to a rack or bench with the other hand. Raise and lower (kick back) the dumbbell at an even rate, keeping the upper arm in line with your torso and parallel to the floor. Keep your upper arm tight against your waist throughout.
Lying triceps extensions or “skull crushers”: Lie on your back on a flat bench and hold a barbell or E Z curl bar at arms length above you. Lower it slowly to the forehead and raise the bar again to arm's length. This is a more advanced exercise, and you may have to wait until your tri's are ready for this one.

Model Tom Mezger
Hard to Keep
Physique in Top Form
By James BoothTom Mezger is a former medical studentturned-model, living in Sydney, Australia. In his spare time, he enjoys being active outdoors. His favorite hobbies include hiking and traveling and while checking out the sights, he is always on the lookout for a local gym and a court he can shoot hoops on. That's because for Tom, fitness is not just for the cameras, it is a way of life that happens to benefit his work in front of the lens. His most recent shoot was for Teamm8's new Icon brief collection, where we caught up with him.
Have you always been so athletic?
I was born an athlete. I have been playing sports all of my life. I love basketball, swimming, soccer, rugby… the sky is the limit, really. I find my body is able to move with ease without having to think about it
and I recover from pain very quickly. My parents joke that I'm a constant tank of energy.
What's your favorite sport?
Basketball is my favorite, and my hero is Michael Jordan.
Why Michael Jordan?
He is a relentless, hard-working, and competitive. He is only satisfied with perfection.
Are you the same?
(Laughing) I tend to get very competitive when I am up against friends or most anybody, really. But if I'm playing with smaller or younger people who are simply playing to have a good time, I can turn off the switch and enjoy the moment.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Sydney but I spent most of my childhood and teenage years living an
expat life in Asia around Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan.
That's amazing!
It's helped me to be able to adapt to most situations and become friends with a wide range of people.
Did you go to college?
I went to college to study medicine, and I was even offered a sports scholarship, but I decided to put my degree on hold and pursue a modeling career.
Was modeling something you always want to do?
Yes, it looked like a fun way to make money, meet new people, and enjoy exciting experiences.
How did you break into the business?
I was at a bar in Paris one night and a stranger, who happened to be a designer for a major French brand, asked if I was a model and the next, I knew, I was doing a Paris fashion runway show in the middle of my vacation. Since then, I've worked with Calvin Klein, Zegna, Givenchy, and now, Teamm8.
What is the best part of modeling underwear and swimwear?
Meeting new people and the exciting travel destinations.
Worst part?
Outdoor shoots in the middle of winter! Especially when I'm wearing next to nothing or sometimes, nothing at all. Are you confident about your body? I mean, you must be, right?
I'm very comfortable and confident with my body. I've done the hard hours in the gym. I don't mind showing off the results. In the fashion industry, you hear about people shredding for shoots. I don't do that. I prefer to be shredded for life and so I am working on myself all of the time.
Is there anything you dislike about your appearance?
No, I like every inch. The truth is, except for my weight and build, I can't control what I look like. None of us can. I am grateful for what I have and that it has led me to a successful career. When it comes down to it, though, my real strength, over my looks, is my personality. Where do you see your modeling career going from here? What is left to accomplish?
I'd love to be the face of a sports brand like Teamm8. I would also like to shoot in the USA
more, with some of the big high fashion brands.
Do you have a secret talent?
Besides English, I speak three languages: Chinese, German, and French.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness is a journey, not a destination. I enjoy every moment of life, the good, the bad and ugly. I don't worry too much over anything because, at the end of the day, I trust everything will be okay. Tomorrow will always be a new day. You must be afraid of something!
I'm from Australia. We have deadly spiders, crocodiles and many dangerous things that fly. They don't scare me. My greatest fear is time. Have I done enough in this life?
What is your most treasured possession?
My grandmother, bless her soul, was my greatest possession. She's no longer with us, sadly. She showed me the true meaning to life. Her love and acts of generosity had no limits. She was a true inspiration. Without her, I would not be half the man I am today.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
The instability and corruption in the world, and all the needless strife. People of the world need to get along and support each other. We're all in this together. We cannot repeat history's mistakes.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Hypocrisy, especially people who lie and pretend to be somebody they are not. I often find myself listening to others speak their lies when I know the truth, and it leaves me standing with a loss for words. If you could have any magic power, what would it be?
Invisibility. It would be great to do a Houdini when I'm stuck in an awkward situation and I need to get out quickly.

Dear Andreus,
I have been dating a guy for six months now, which for me is a record. He always comes to my house because he says that my place is more comfortable. Well, I decided to surprise him, and show up at his house, with dinner and some wine. To my surprise, a woman came to the door and after a brief exchange, introduced herself as his live-in girlfriend. She told me that she was aware that he had a boyfriend, and because they are both bisexual, she was okay with it. I feel like a fool. He never once told me that he was bisexual or that he had a girlfriend. I also think that it is unfair that she knew of me, but I was not given the respect or common courtesy to be informed of the same. My dilemma now, is whether to stay with him or not. I am not good at sharing.
Sincerely, Danny K.
Dear Danny, Not to add salt to the wound, but apparently you are good at sharing, you've been doing it for six months already. However, I do agree that this information should have been communicated to you from the beginning. The question you have to ask yourself now is – How invested are you? Can you now keep going on in this relationship, with this new information? And does this cause you to have trust issues? At the very least, there needs to be a conversation about this, and also about communication and transparency if you should decide to remain.
Dear Andreus,
My best friend moved in with me about two months ago. We have been the very best of friends and super close for years. I thought that being roommates would be easy. I have found out that we are as different as night and day. I find myself cleaning up behind him all the time in the common areas, and he is never on time with his portion of the rent and bills. I don't know if I want him gone, or if things can change. The real issue is that I don't know how to approach the situation. And if I ask him to move, it might destroy our friendship. What should I do?
Sincerely, Roderick C.Dear Roderick,
There is an old saying – “You don't know someone, until you live with them.” When you have limited time, or just moments with someone, you see the best version of them. When you live with someone, it gives you more time to discover more about them, and sometimes things you may not like. You must address the situation because it will only get worse. You have to choose between having a conversation about your concerns with the hopes of encouraging change or asking him to leave. That is your call. The longer you let it go, the more uncomfortable the situation will become, and then it is likely to escalate, potentially to the point of no return. If you are best friends, you should be able to talk this out, and come to some agreement on house rules and expectations. I hope things work out – real best friends are hard to come by.
“I don't know if I want him gone, or if things can change.“
