Tig

Notaro,

Justin Simien Board Separate 'Star Trek' Projects

The Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con was abuzz with new projects. First up: Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman, all of whom starred in “Star Trek: Discovery,” and Robert Picardo from “Star Trek: Voyager,” are joining the crew of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.” The upcoming series already boasts big names like Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti for its story of young space travelers

working toward original “Trek” ideals of optimism and hope for the future. Production begins next month. Meanwhile, “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien and actor Tawny Newsome (Star Trek: Lower Decks) are cowriting their own as-yetuntitled “Star Trek” sitcom with “Trek” franchise captain Alex Kurtzman. The live-action comedy option hasn't figured into “Trek”

output yet, so this will be quite literally where no one has gone before. Together the projects bode well for an invigorated, multivalent franchise, and that's good. We've had a lot of dystopian entertainment lately, and something other than fatalistic doom will be a more than welcome arrival.

Russell Tovey leaps into 'Doctor Who' spinoff Disney and BBC jointly announced at San Diego Comic-Con a new project titled “The War Between the Land and the Sea.” Does that sound like it's connected to “Doctor Who?” No? Well, it is. The five-part spinoff series will see returning DW cast members Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient joined by both “Loki” star Gugu Mbatha-Raw and the prolifically employed Russell

Photo: Flickr Photo:

Tovey (most recently of “Feud: Capote vs The Swans,” and whose off-camera art podcast is a breath of fresh air). The story involves the threat of an ancient species that seeks to destroy humanity, necessitating the involvement of UNIT (that's “Doctor Who” stuff, don't worry about it) to save Earth's population. Production begins next month, will stream on Disney+ in the U.S., and just became must -watch future TV.

Tessa Thompson produces thriller 'His & Hers' Tessa Thompson, co-star of the “Creed” film series and an ongoing player in the MCU (“Thor”), chooses her other projects with care. And she's just signed on to executive produce and star in the psychological thriller “His & Hers,” based on the novel by Alice Feeney. The six-episode Netflix series, written by Bill Dubuque and Dee Johnson (“Fellow Travelers,” “The Good Wife”), is to be set in Atlanta where a former journalist (Thompson) lives as a recluse. Then she

learns of a murder in her small Georgia hometown that, ironically, brings her back to energetic life. We love Thompson in anything and we really love a murder mystery, so as soon as Netflix drops this one, it'll be time to binge before anyone spoils the ending.

'Queens of the Dead to serve zombie realness

What happens when the zombie apocalypse targets queer club kids?

The answer will be revealed in “Queens of the Dead,” from Tina Romero (daughter of legendary “Night of The Living Dead” filmmaker George Romero). Co-written by Romero and author Erin

Judge (“Vow of Celibacy”) , the action descends on a glamour-obsessed group of young queer Brooklyn “drag queens, club kids, and frenemies” (per the official logline) who have to band together and put their own pettiness on hold to fight back against the zombie menace. Naturally a very cool cast has already been assembled: Jaquel Spivey (“Mean Girls”), Katy O'Brian (“Love Lies Bleeding”), Margaret Cho (“Fire Island”), Brigette Lundy-Paine (“I Saw The TV Glow”) and Cheyenne Jackson (“American Horror Story”) and production begins soon. Slay, queens, slay.

This is a place I visit a lot, I just love the Greek cuisine. The Great Greek's success is rooted in its passion for great service and the authentic flavors you will love. Come in to discover what makes this restaurant iconic. If you love feta cheese, the Tirokafteri humus is a must-have, or you can try the 4-dip humus combo served with warm pitas. Another suggestion is their Athenian burger (Half Pound Grilled Certified Angus Beef with Chopped Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Onions, Tzatziki and Feta), just loved it!

Located right on Fort Lauderdale Beach, I have never seen so many ceviche variations, but they do have 8 to choose from and we all know the best ceviche comes from Peru! Their pan con chicarron (french roll bread, crispy pork belly, fried sweet potato, rocoto aioli and salsa criolla, served with french fries) is to die for and their lomo saltado. A second location now open in Boca Raton.

Lips Fort Lauderdale

Purchased by Aquaplex Key West

Lips Fort Lauderdale has been purchased for an undisclosed sum by Aquaplex Key West, an elevated entertainment venue with five experiences under one roof including a drag nightclub and bar. Michael and Jonathan Barrett, Aquaplex Key West owners, will be the new proprietors of Lips Fort Lauderdale effective next week. This transition will save jobs and keep the art of drag alive.

"This is an exciting venture for us as we spread our wings from Key West to South Florida," said Michael and Jonathan Barrett. We love drag and we love it here, so it is the perfect venue for us to personalize and make our own. Our Key West experience and success have provided us with inspiration and we're looking forward to visualizing it in Fort Lauderdale."

Lips Fort Lauderdale has been a leading drag performance venue with a recognized cast since 1997. It is renowned as the place to celebrate any occasion from weddings to graduations, new jobs and anniversaries. It has also been a vital part of the community, raising funds for several charitable organizations including Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Women in Distress, Smart Ride, ArtsUnited and more.

"The magic of Lips Fort Lauderdale has sparkled for nearly 17 years thanks to our amazing cast and crew plus our loyal fans. We leave behind a legacy of good memories and are excited that

Michael and Jonathan will transition Lips and add to its allure. Lips' unique brand of entertainment will continue to thrive at four other locations in the U.S.," said Yvonne Lame-co-owner of Lips.

In addition to owning Aquaplex Key West, the new proprietors have a food service background as the owners of Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise locations. Michael Barrett added, "We can't wait to immerse ourselves in the community and to incorporate our elevated drag experience here. We recently attended Lips' Sunday brunch, and we were instantly won over by the entertaining show, camaraderie and the enthusiastic sold-out audience."

Lucas has written an emotionally deep story about how failed redemption can quickly curdle into revenge. A love triangle with a powerful, ruthless film producer and a fascinating but woefully under stimulated wife leads the protagonist down a dark path where an anonymous internet chat room becomes a haunting sexual nightmare that ignites a shocking finale.

Turn Up The Heat

Ok, how many times have we skipped the warmup and headed straight for the weights? I guess we all take for granted all the wonderful things that the body does on its own. It can heal, it can breathe, it can digest all by itself, but it could do even better with some help from us to ensure it keeps on working for the long run; and not to suffer damage from the wear and tear of vigorous exercise.

Exercising is important, but exercising safely is crucial when it comes to long-term goals, and the main goal is to stay healthy and prevent injuries, so we are able to stay active in our later years. Warming up and stretching are some of the main ingredients for a safe and effective workout and just like in any recipe, you got to pre heat the oven before you can p ut your buns in to grow… then let it cool before you can eat it.

So, let's start from the beginning and focus on the warmup, as it is the first step in order to raise the heart rate, so the body can get ready to operate at high energy levels. Not only does it elevate body temperature, but the cardiorespiratory system increases to provide more oxygen to the muscles and the brain, speeding up signal transmission through the nerves, fostering better motor control, balance, and coordination; you are basically letting your body know that it's about to get serious, so it can gather all the energy it needs where it needs to go. It is like turning the keys in your car's ignition, it gets the engine ready to hit the road.

It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to trigger these changes within the body, in turn your risks of incurring injuries, getting sore or feeling tired during your workout is greatly reduced. Beyond injury prevention, an effective warmup can enhance your performance, as your muscles become more supple and responsive you are able to lift heavier with more power and agility. In addition, it promotes the flow of synovial fluid around the joints, enhancing lubrication for mobility, improving the elasticity of muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and aiding in a better range of motion.

“...how many times have we skipped the warmup and headed straight for the weights?”

It sounds complicated but all you got to do is start moving, and your body will automatically do the rest. From walking to jogging, any light physical activity, or aerobics will do to kickstart this process. Even if you choose to warmup on a cardio machine, you can adjust it to match how you are initially feeling, and then build up from there.

We all want to climax but it's not as much fun without making out, right? So, try to enjoy this part of your workout and feel the body connecting with the brain, the adrenaline rise with each breath you take, the sweat dripping from your neck is the sign that you are ready for it. When you skip a warmup, you miss out on all that magic and end up risking strains, sprains, tears, joint injuries and even arrhythmia. But the risk can be easily reduced by simply making the warmup a vital part of your workout, the first step to your personal physical journey.

As you turn up the heat within, take the time to set your intentions for each workout, make it a ritual, and remember that the main goal is to remain strong and prevent injuries, so you can keep active for the long haul. The body is just like a machine, cannot run smoothly under exertion when the necessary parts are cold, so honor your body with the care it needs to keep taking good care of you for many years to come.
