The Social event of the season presents the 52nd Anniversary of the Miss Florida F.I. Pageantry System on Sunday and Monday, October 6th and 7th in the beautiful “Crystal Ballroom” at The Venue/The Manor Fort Lauderdale (2345 Wilton Drive). On Sunday October 6 it will be three pageants in one night with Miss Florida F.I. At Large, Mr. Florida M.E. and Miss Florida F.I. Supreme pageants. Then on Monday October 7 is The Miss Florida F.I. pageant. The pageantry system attracts some of the top named female impersonators, and Movie, TV, and

Fashion stars from across the USofA and beyond.

In the past Miss Florida F.I. had celebrity judges including Sylvester, Boy George, and KC and Sunshine Band.

Many pageant systems have started since, they have followed the lead of Miss Florida F.I., but Miss Florida F.I. is still recognized as one of the top 5 national pageants.

Former winners have gone onto great careers in TV, movies, and coveted lead roles in shows and cabarets including Las

Vegas and P-Town and have traveled not only across the state of Florida but around the world.

Our new host hotel is the beautiful Hampton by Hilton Fort Lauderdale/Downtown. They are offering rooms from only $119 a night until September 18, and there is no resort fee.

The Venue Fort Lauderdale will be serving a limited menu of delicious food, and of course amazing cocktails.

The owners who plan to uphold the vision of original owners Keith Landon and Rene Rodriguez include:

Alyson Thomas, a seasoned professional in the art form of female impersonation herself for over 40 years, brings professionalism, style, stability, and experience to the pageant. She is also known throughout the country as a leading promoter and supporter to many who have gone on to become national title holders, and a coach to newcomers. Well respected by everyone in the art form, a hands-on owner with an eye for detail, coupled with personality, hospitality and vision.

Scott Holland, whose knowledge and experience in the Florida market includes media and editorial experience, producer of events, judge to many pageantry systems including nationals and prelims to nationals, a pageant coordinator, public relations, professionalism, and a love for entertainment that cannot be touched.

Gary Santis, who has been involved with the pageant since 1990, is instrumental in keeping the history of the system alive. He brings decades of hands-on working knowledge of the system, and the experience that makes Miss Florida F.I. rich in history, and memories. Gary continues to create amazing sets, outrageous productions, state of the art sound and lighting, encompassing a show and a night of entertainment not to be missed. Gary Santis is also the owner of Gary Santis events which has produced some of the biggest gay events south Florida has seen.

We sat down with the current court (Minus Mr. Florida who has a full interview in this tissue in the Kings we love feature) and asked Yeisa and Brittany the same 5 questions. Dorae was traveling and gave us a quote. Here are their answers:

Yeisa Jovovich

Miss Florida F.I. 2023/24

For those who don't know you, tell us a little about yourself?

Yeisa Jovovich is a cheerful and charismatic person. A person who never says NO when someone needs my help. I am an excellent sister, mother, daughter, wife and above all, a perfect friend. I feel a lot of love for myself that leads me to give the same to each one of the people who touch my life. Why did you want to win Miss Florida? I wanted to win Miss Florida, because since I arrived to this state of Florida, I feel that it has

“It gives us professional and mental growth and opens many more doors for us to continue working for ourselves and for our own community...”

given me a lot personally. And I wanted to be Miss Florida because I understand that it is a way or a tool for me to be able to give back to this land some of what it has given me (friends, work, happy moments, love, etc.)

Why is Miss Florida so important?

Miss Florida is important because of the work and effort that has been achieved over many years and because of the legacy of each of the outstanding queens. In addition, it is recognized as the most important pageant in the state and throughout the entire country. How has your life changed since you won Miss Florida?

It changed my life in the sense of having more relevance for my name here in the state and outside of it, by standing on every stage and being recognized. Now people notice me even more wherever I am. For me it was a chance to have a voice of power and enrichment.

What is the best thing that has happened to you in your career?

The best thing has been winning the national titles that I have in my career such as Miss Florida F.I. and Miss universal Latina USA. It gives us professional and mental growth and opens many more doors for us to continue working for ourselves and for our own community, inspiring others and touching hearts.

Brittany Moore

Miss Florida F.I. Supreme 2023/24

For anyone who may not know who you are, tell us about yourself in a paragraph?

My name is Brittany Moore, and I reside in Jacksonville, Florida. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida! I live in Jacksonville with my partner of 13 years Gary. I am a hairstylist of 35 years and a graduate of South Ridge High School in Miami. Why did you want to win Miss Florida? Funny fact I won Miss Florida on my second try 20 years after I first entered! I wanted to

“Growing up, we didn't have mainstream TV shows like we do now that showcased our talents and pageantry was what we did to make a name for ourselves...”

win Miss Florida because growing up watching my heroes Nikki Adams, Dana Manchester, Tiffany Arieagus (just name a few) were all Miss Florida's and they traveled the country entertaining. Why is Miss Florida so important?

I knew it would be the highlight of my career to be Miss Florida because it has such a rooted legacy. Winning Miss Florida was so special to me and was my favorite reign by far! I loved traveling and working and meeting new people! I had the time of my life.

How has life changed for you since you won Miss Florida?

I think winning Miss Florida helped me get a lot of work and it made me feel so accomplished.

What's the best thing that has happened to you in your career?

Growing up, we didn't have mainstream TV shows like we do now that showcased our talents and pageantry was what we did to make a name for ourselves, and it's been on honor of a lifetime to be Miss Florida.

Dorae Saunders - Miss Florida F.I. at Large 2023/24

I wanted to win Miss Florida F.I at Large because of Tiffany Arieagus and Tasha Long. It was important because I am getting older and before I stop competing this was something I wanted to add to my resume. I am so lucky that show directors continue to book me consistently due to my work ethic and me being dedicated to my craft, in addition to being likeable, approachable and having a genuine love of this business.

The Miss Florida F.I. pageantry system will take place on Sunday and Monday, October 6 and 7 at the beautiful “The Venue” in Fort Lauderdale with doors opening each night at 7pm and pageant starting at 8pm sharp. To purchase tickets, go to MissFloridaFIPageant.com. For sponsorship or more information call Scott at 954-478-4587.

Who was the first Male Entertainer you saw and tell me about the experience?

Kings We Love: Bobby Iman

Mr. Florida M.E. 2024/25

Damoni Hall Dickerson was the first male entertainer I remember seeing. His creative direction and attention to detail provided an entertaining show that kept my attention the entire number.

When did you decide you wanted to be a male entertainer?

I decided I wanted to be a male entertainer in 2008. After watching drag shows I saw something I knew I would excel at.

What's your favorite number(s) to perform and why?

Anything by Chris Brown because of our resemblance and the dance skills we have in common. His music also exudes a lot of emotion and detailed background vocals. What's the best thing that has happened to you as a male entertainer?

The best thing to happen to me as a male entertainer was winning my first title, Mr. Glamorous 2022. I was the first male

crowned, winning $10,000. Neema Bahrami and Dale Dees had a vision of giving male entertainers a platform to showcase their talent. Sadly, on June 12 2016, Dale was one of the 49 victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. He was a very close friend of mine, so I felt it was only right for me to be the one to carry on his legacy in a positive light. What differentiates you from other entertainers?

My drive and passion both on and off stage for the art of male entertainment differentiates me from others. I tend to help others before helping myself. I am a very detail-oriented entertainer that pays close attention to all aspects of the number I am performing. I also always make sure to showcase my unique style through costumes, makeup and even hairstyles. You are the reigning Mr. Florida M.E. and a former Mr. Glamorous. Is there another pageant on your horizon? I want to take a break for a year to enjoy a little “me time.” In my opinion silence is golden and you should never tell anyone your next move. When I decide my next pageant you can catch me at registration, nobody will ever be able to get ready for me. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Talented, Nerdy, and Loyal What do you do for fun?

I'm a huge nerd, I enjoy playing my PlayStation 5, building Lego sets, shopping for Nike Jordan 1's and fitted hats. I also love

playing with my beautiful Dalmatian, Ink. You are now the co-host of Platinum Fridays in Orlando. Tell us how that happened and how it's been. (Bobby's co-host is former Miss Florida at Large Angelica Sanchez).

First, I would like to express the amount of respect, gratitude and admiration I have for Angelica Sanchez. She is not just a cohost, but truly family. I call her my Tete because she reminds me of my aunt's back home. Angelica has been an icon in the Orlando hip hop scene for as long as I can remember. She witnessed my growth as a performer at the Parliament House and started booking me there for Hip Hop Tuesdays. As the night progressed and changed venues becoming Platinum Fridays, I became a regular cast member and eventually her co-host which has been an amazing experience. What does the future hold for you?

Stay Tuned to find out.

You can catch Bobby giving up his title as Mr. Florida M.E. 2023/24 at the Mr. Florida M.E. Pageant on Sunday, October 6 at the Venue Fort Lauderdale at 8pm. For more information on the pageant go to MissFloridaFIpageant.com, and for more info on Bobby, follow him at Instagram.com/astroboi12

With a Mexican-Peruvian cuisine, you get the best of both worlds at ChileLimon, starting with their ceviche. Bowls are also available, but my favorites are always the tacos; with 3 tacos included per order, you can choose from chicken, pork, or beef. Gorditas are also another favorite with shredded chicarron in the mix and peruvian sauces, just choose your favorite protein. Tostanachos are also very good.

Service is quick, friendly and the food is very good. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the very loud music, even though the DJ was great, they do need to bring the volume down; I do like to hear the people I sit with without having to yell. To end on a positive note, we loved the nachos, served is a fun way (get your cell ready) good amount of food to share; BBQ wings are delicious and the carne tacos (3) Huge burgers and fries are also on their menu, burritos, quesadillas, salads and other entrees. Drinks are great, too!

Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue at Broward Center

Sept.

3rd - 29th

Thank you for being a…fan! Following sold-out performances and rave reviews across the country, The Golden Girls are back and better than ever with a brand new stage show that's more exciting than a trip to the Rusty Anchor. “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” will head to more than 60 cities in 2024 including a month of performances September 3 – 29 in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

A very special VIP photo experience add-on is available that includes photos with the actors on the Golden Girls set after the show.

Picture it. United States, 2024. “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” brings Miami's sassiest seniors to stages around

the country for one more hurrah. We find Sophia out on bail after being busted by the DEA for running a drug ring for retirees. Blanche and Rose have founded CreakN, a thriving sex app for seniors. And Dorothy is trying to hold it all together with help from a new (much) younger sex-crazed lover.

“Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” allows audiences to relive the heartfelt hilarity of the four ladies who never stopped being best friends.

“Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” is a professional stage show unlike any other Golden Girls tribute that you might have experienced. The play is written by Robert Leleux, author of The Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy and The Living End. His work has also appeared in The New York Times and The New York Times Magazine and his other plays have been produced across the country. The show is directed by Eric Swanson, who was the co-founder and executive director of The Detroit Actors' Theatre Company. The cast includes Ryan Bernier as Dorothy, Vince Kelley as Blanche, Adam Graber as Rose, Christopher Kamm as Sophia, and Tommy Favorite as Stanley/Burt. The production is produced by Murray & Peter Present.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Vince Kelley, who plays Blanche, for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?

When did you know performing would be your career?

I think in 9th grade is when I realized I was serious about it, and that's when I started formulating that this would be the direction of my life.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?

I was like 7 and my uncle's girlfriend was in high school play (he was in high school also) and they needed a kid and she asked my mom if I could audition. I loved it so I kept doing it. Then in 3rd grade I had a teacher who got me dance and voice lessons and I never looked back.

What was your rst professional gig and how much did you get paid?

I was working at a summer theater camp with a guy who also worked at the college and he was doing a production of Midsummer Nights Dream and gave me a part. I was just a little fairy but I got paid. I don't remember the amount.

I got to play Hedwig, which was a dream come true. The ability to have complete command over an audience was amazing. Also telling that crazy fun story was super cool. I would do it again in a heartbeat. What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but would die to play)?

I am at a place now where I no longer feel there is a dream role in a box, so I have been looking at roles that would traditionally not be played by me. So, I am thinking of Momma Rose, etc.

Is it intimidating or is there extra pressure playing such an iconic character from an iconic TV Show?

Absolutely, Golden Girl fans are very intense and serious. There is definitely a mantle you have to rise to. We have spent a lot of time on our impressions and we

are very serious about what we are doing. And we also want to make sure, since it's 4 guys playing these girls, that it's incredibly hilarious also.

Did you audition for Blanche or how did you get the role?

I worked with this production team 5 years ago, so when the project came into development, I received the offer. The offer was Rose or Blanche and I immediately took Blanche.

You are married. How did you meet your husband and how do you guys deal with you being on the road so much?

He was my boss, as we were both working in retail. Now we have been together for a long time, so we have history on our side. When we met, I thought I was done performing on the road and we have moved twice for his job, so he is very understanding of me traveling now.

Describe yourself in 3 words? Energetic, unyielding and tired.

What do you do for fun?

I like to eat, and try new foods. I also love watching television and talking about shows and I love “Drag Race.” What should our readers expect from this touring company of, “Murray and Peter's Golden Girls, the Laughs Continue?”

Expect the unexpected. Even if you have seen every episode 10 times this is the episode you didn't get to see yet. It's all new and is about what the girls would be doing in 2024. The show is different every single night as there is a high level of improvisation and crowd work. It is super fun.

The 4 Elements of Fitness

When it comes to Hot bodies, it's easy like ABC, the secret is: Eat, Lift, Sleep, Repeat. That's it!

No need to complicate it. These four steps not only will lead to your dream physique but it will also make you more disciplined, more motivated and more productive in all areas of your life. And although it is a pretty basic concept and a

big part of our regular routine, we end up taking it for granted and letting it run on autopilot, until we lose our way… but we can always take direction by following these simple steps. Once you understand the basics you learn how to keep them in balance, and that is what makes the difference that you can feel within yourself, and see it in the mirror.

Fitness is not just about spending time at the gym, it starts the moment you wake up in the morning until you go back to sleep at night. It is the commitment it takes to live well, to be yourself in the best way that you can possibly be, as you find harmony with your life. It puts you back in charge of your choices by making you health conscious, and more aware of your well being.

Most of our poor choices come from what we eat, some of us will also eat too much, or not at all, and that is why EAT is the first step on our Fitness ABC. Without bricks you can't build a house, and food is our building blocks for muscle growth; it provides the nutrients and energy we need to stay healthy and function, as well as develop muscle mass. So, no food, no muscles… You can go to the gym all you want, but fitness does start in the kitchen. Although if you are spending too much time in the kitchen, you gotta make some extra time for the gym and LIFT.

Your body is energy, energy needs to move, the more it moves, the higher it vibrates, if it doesn't it lowers the vibration. Lift your vibration, by lifting weights, exercising or practicing sports, or anything that raises your heart rate. It will put you in a better mood, make you stronger, healthier and happier. You will know as it shows every time you look in the mirror and see those muscles looking back at you.

Staying fit might be likened to a go go go journey, with all the cardio, the weights and the eating, we often seem to skip the most important of all - RECOVERY.

Gotta know when to slow down and allow your body to breathe, and repair itself before you put it through another workout. While working out is meant to stress the muscles, SLEEP is the process that will repair the damage by making it better, bigger and healthier. So it is essential that you allow yourself more than enough time to recharge, because when your batteries are running low, you can't give 100% to your training.

Although taking a day off can be an inconvenience to some, others will take one too many days off until the point of no return and fail to REPEAT.

Consistency is the key to succeed, not only in your fitness but in any skill you possess in your life. Our ability to learn is based on repetition, from our basic skills of walking and talking, to driving a car or flying airplanes, we must practice it repeatedly to reach our full potential until it becomes second nature. Teaching our neurons to form new structures inside our brains increases the potential in our abilities, and the same goes for muscle cells, they get broken down and replaced by stronger new cells, leading to muscle mass growth. As we know everything is connected, the same way there's no seasons without Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall, no elements without water, fire, air and earth, there's no gains without EATING, LIFTING, SLEEPING and REPEATING. So have you got what it takes to follow the four elements of fitness?

Whether you do or you don't, I wanna hear from you, hit me up at: hotbodies@hotspots.lgbt.

Let me know about your fitness journey, send me questions or topic suggestions that you would like to see in this column. I would love to help you on your path to becoming a better version of your amazing self.

For the last few issues I have talked about the basics of fitness (Self-Care, Mindset, Warm up, Stretching) and I will be breaking down EAT, LIFT, SLEEP, REPEAT individually in the following issues, so don't miss our next article where we will go into more details about the 4 elements of fitness.

Enter the Cher and Chaz Horror Maze

Spooky season is right around the corner, and if you're old enough to remember Cher's '90s goth home furnishings company Sanctuary (catalogs for sale on eBay for the curious and/or devoted) you won't be at all surprised to learn that she's producing a horror movie alongside her son Chaz Bono. It's called “Little Bites” — it's about a flesh-eating monster stalking a young girl and a mom who'll sacrifice everything to keep her child safe — and it's coming to theaters this October, followed soon after by a streaming debut on the horror platform Shudder. Chaz also co-stars in the film directed by Spider One (“Allegoria”) alongside Krsy

Fox (“Terrifier 3”) and, most thrillingly, horror legends Barbara Crampton (“Jakob' s Wife”), Heather Langenkamp (the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and Bonnie Aarons (“The Nun”). You were hoping for special candy this October and now you 'll get this full-size treat from Cher.

Quinta Brunson and Stephanie Hsu team for 'Par for the Course' People who pay attention to what major studios are sending into movie theaters will tell you that Universal has been bucking the trends and doing so profitably for years now. When other studios are content to recycle IP, create sequels where none were needed, and bank everything on hugely expensive event-style content (Scorsese won't call it “cinema,” why should we?) Universal puts more, and

less expensive, original scripts into production, counting on audiences to show up for movies that aren't the same old thing. All of that to say that the latest project on their future docket comes from Quinta Brunson, the star and creator of “Abbott Elementary.” Cowritten by Brunson and fellow “Abbott” team member Justin Tan, it's called “Par for the Course,” and that's quite literally all the information we have about what it's going to be, other than the welcome news that queer actor and Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”) will co-star alongside Brunson in the comedy. When its status as “under wraps” changes, we'll tell you more.

Gus Van Sant takes on Gawker with Affleck and Damon Remember the gossip site Gawker? Remember how Hulk Hogan sued them out of existence for leaking the sex tape where he cucked a friend with that friend's wife and then freaky gay Trump-

loving billionaire Peter Thiel funded the lawsuit because he was angry that Gawker had outed him years before that? It doesn't matter if you don't. Maybe you were busy with your life. Anyway, the insane true story became a book — “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue,” by Ryan Holiday — and now Matt Damon and Ben Afflec k have taken on Charles Randolph's screenplay adaptation and are reportedly handing it to their “Good Will Hunting” pal Gus Van Sant. At the moment the project is called “Killing Gawker,” and early word is Affleck wants to play Hogan. Don't get tired rubbing your hands together, there's still a wait ahead of you.

The 'Freaky Friday' sequel has a title… Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan dropped the exciting news at Disney's recent D23 event. After an assembled crowd went wild with a standing ovation to celebrate their very existence, the reunited screen mom and daughter announced the title of the in-production “Freaky Friday” sequel: “Freakier Friday.” Lesbian director Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night,” “The High Note”) is at the helm of the updated story which sees Tess and Anna, years later, dealing with the stresses of life. Anna has a daughter of her own now, as well as a soon-to-be

stepdaughter. And, well, it would appear that they didn't learn their lesson from the first body-switch accident, and they make that fateful wish all over again. Will other family members get switched, too? Who can say. But we can say that Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray are back, and the whole hotly anticipated thing (which, for the record, is officially lesbian cinema canon thanks to the Jodiestarring '70s original) drops into movie theaters sometime in 2025. Romeo San Vicente is more a Thirsty Thursday, really.
