Fall into the beat

Summer may have come to an end, but that doesn't mean the heat on our nation's gay dance floors is cooling down. Clubs are working overtime to keep floors burning. Here are the top scorchers being played this autumn.

“I'm Never Gonna Dance Again” Jaime Adrian - So Fierce Music

Jaime Adrian's "I'm Never Gonna Dance Again" masterfully reinvents George Michael's classic "Careless Whisper" as a sleek, futuristic dance anthem. Maintaining the emotional core of the original ballad, Adrian infuses it with pulsating beats and vibrant synths that elevate the track to a whole new level. His sultry, expressive vocals bring a fresh, sexy energy to the song, adding a modern twist while honoring the nostalgic essence of the '80s hit. The infectious rhythm, paired with its bold, highenergy production, makes it irresistible for club floors, where it is sure to ignite crowds.

“Alive Again” - On Mekahelc

On Mekahel's new single "Alive Again" is a vibrant and empowering dance-pop anthem that blends infectious beats with a deeply personal message of self-discovery and resilience. The track's pulsating rhythm and catchy hooks instantly draw listeners in, while Mekahel's emotive vocals deliver a powerful message about embracing one's true self and living life authentically. The fusion of pop and dance elements creates an uplifting, feel-good vibe that's perfect for the dance floor, yet the lyrics add a layer of emotional depth that resonates beyond just the music. On Mekahel's ability to combine a meaningful narrative with dance-ready production showcases his artistry and adds a refreshing voice to the dance-pop landscape.

personal growth. With its infectious pop melody, CERANDA delivers a message of resilience and strength, reminding listeners that even in their darkest moments, they possess the inner power to rise up and face the world. The song's driving beat and uplifting production make it an energetic, feel-good track, while the emotional depth of the lyrics gives it a poignant edge. "Superpowers" captures the process of healing after a painful experience, turning vulnerability into strength and triumph.

“Ann N Andyy" - PrettiBoiRoq

PrettiBoiRoq's "Ann N Andyy" is an intense, emotionally charged track that dives deep into his real-life experiences of betrayal and transformation. The clever title, a play on the iconic Ann and Andy dolls, reflects the “raggedy” nature of those who betrayed him, setting the tone for this unapologetically raw song. The production is minimalist yet purposeful, allowing PrettiBoiRoq's fierce lyrical delivery to take center stage. His aggressive flow and biting words capture the pain of betrayal, while also showcasing his resilience and growth in the face of hardship. The strippedback beat and haunting atmosphere amplify the emotional weight of the lyrics, making the track a powerful statement on overcoming adversity.

Camille's Pizzeria & Ristorante

Brings New York Italian Flair to

Oakland Park

This Oakland Park eatery was previously a long-term Italian bakery, but Camille's has transformed it into a modern, contemporary, and stylish Italian restaurant with a bar. Chef John and his wife Mia own the restaurant.

John and Mia are from Queens, New York, and prepare fresh New York Italian food with an extra flair.

When we arrived, Mia and our waiter, Marcus, greeted us. We sat in this comfortable restaurant and

started our meal with two glasses of Pinot Noir ($10/glass or $30/bottle). We were asked if we wanted their garlic rolls. Of course, we said yes. The rolls were warm and fluffy and were not overpowering with garlic like many other restaurants.

We moved on to the appetizers: We ordered the Grilled Octopus over Three Bean Salad and Pickled Onion ($10). The octopus was grilled to perfection. Not over or undercooked, and charred just right for the perfect flavor. We also ordered mussels ($15), which were served with toasted garlic, crispy pepperoni, and picked peppers in a white wine reduction. The dish was so good; we used the toasted bread that came with it to make sure we got every drop. If you like mussels, this

is a must-order!

For our main course, we shared the Homemade Pappardelle and Wild Mushrooms ($24). This was so flavorful we tried to stuff ourselves, but we knew we had more food to try, so we ate what we could and brought the rest home.

Of course, a chef with such a pedigree from Queens could make a good pizza, or would it be too bougie? We ordered the Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza ($19/small, $21/large) and wow- he nailed it! You can certainly tell it was fresh and not canned ingredients, and it was crispy (not burnt) on the bottom, which made it perfect for this Northeasterner to half fold and eat without it falling apart, but you can eat it with a knife and fork if you desire. It was excellent and even outstanding the next day, reheated.

Of course, there is dessert. There were many choices, but we shared Maria's Tiramisu ($8). It was very fluffy and had

an excellent flavor.

Chef John is familiar with the business and the area, as you can tell from the menu and the phenomenal food. For starters, he was previously the executive chef at Dune (in the Auberge) and the W Hotel South Beach. He is very proud of the restaurant he created, named after his mother, Camille.

This is a great place to dine, but they also offer takeout and have a Sunday Brunch Menu.

If you are looking for a comfortable restaurant with excellent food, a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a central location, Camille's is the place for you. It will be for us and our friends.

Mrs. Doubtfire at Kravis Center

October 29-Nov 3

The producers of Mrs. Doubtfire, the smash hit musical comedy currently playing to sold out houses in London's West End, are thrilled to announce the full cast for the North American Tour coming to the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach for eight performances only –October 29 to November 3, 2024 (Evening Performance at 7:30pm).

The critically acclaimed production features Alex Branton and Jonathan Hoover alternating in the title role of Daniel Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire (everyone's favorite Scottish nanny). Branton and Hoover are joined by renowned Broadway actress Catherine Brunell as Miranda Hillard.

Rounding out the principal company are Giselle Gutierrez as Lydia Hillard, Aaron Kaburick as Frank Hillard, Marquez Linder as Andre Mayhem, Alex Ringler as

Stuart Dunmire, Romelda Teron Benjamin as Wanda Sellner, Charlotte Sydney Harrington and Sunny Lauren Hoder as Natalie Hillard, and Jacob Beser and Sam Bird as Christopher Hillard.

The cast also includes David Hibbard, Bianca Rivera-Irions, Josiah Hicks, Ndaya Dream Hoskins, Sheila Jones, Julie Kavanagh, Ian Liberto, Jacob Major, Naderah Munajj, JP Qualters, Luke Rands, Lannie Rubio, Neil Starkenberg, Joey Stone, Gina Ward, Lauryn Withnell, and Julia Yameen.

Out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard will do anything for his kids. how to be a father. A hysterical and heartfelt story about holding onto your loved ones against all odds, Mrs. Doubtfire is the musical comedy we need right now – one that proves we're better together.

It was a pleasure to sit down with the two leads (Jonathan and Alex) together for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?

Jonathan – I started at 5 years old, and it was at a church choir show and I played the cat who would not follow Gods rule. I got a lot of laughs and loved it, and that's how it started.

Alex – I played sports growing up and then saw “Singing in the Rain” when I was 10 and I thought it looked more fun. I signed up for a tap class, and then performed in a recital and that was it. I changed from football to theater and here we are.

What was your first professional gig and how much did you get paid?

Jonathan – my first paying gig was a production of Oliver when I was 9 and lied and said I was 10. I made a whopping $75 a week and that was so much money for me that I bought barbies and porcelain dolls.

Alex – In Fort Worth there was a circle theater where I got $50 a week for doing a play “Over the Taven” in which I played little Georgie. I was 14 years old.

When did you know performing would be your career?

Jonathan – I remember the first time I found out you could do it as a career. It's when I saw “Phantom of the Opera.” When I did Oliver, is when I decided I wanted to do this for a career. Although it wasn't until late high school that my mother let me pursue it.

Alex – It was when I did Over the Tavern…Georgie was a 12-year-old boy, but he had a mental disability, and he read like a 3year-old. I got a great review for the role, and it made me realize this is what I wanted to do.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?

Jonathan – Playing Bat Boy in the musical “Bat Boy.” You never leave the stage and there is a lot of physicality work…its very similar to this role

Alex – I played the bank manager in “Once.” To play the comic relief made me fall back in love with theater, so that's my favorite role.

What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but would die to play)?

Jonathan – I am dying to play Albin/ZaZa in “La Cage Aux Follies.”

Alex – It's a tie between playing Hamlet or playing Orpheus in Hadestown. Is it intimidating or is there extra pressure being the co-lead in this show since the movie was so iconic?

Jonathan – While there is similar stuff from the movie it's not bound to the movie, so I don't feel a lot of pressure. It allows you to allow yourself to let the Robin Williams in you shine and not feel like you have to bring Robin Williams to the audience.

Alex – It's almost a different genre in Mrs. Doubtfire then it was in the movie. And this show is not necessarily about Robin Williams but about Family.

How hard is it to get the Prosthetics and the outfits on and off?

Jonathan – It is kind of a blackout…you become a puppet of your dressers.

Alex Branton
Jonathan Hoover

Literally we run off stage and the dressers are using you like a marionette.

Alex – The meal seems much bigger than the actual eating of it. Our wardrobe team is unbelievable. They are superstars.

Recovery - Take it Easy

In the fitness world, the mantra “no pain, no gain” often leads to a tunnel-vision approach where the focus is solely on intense workouts. However, without proper recovery, those gains will eventually stall, or worse, lead to injury.

While pushing your HOT body to its limits is often necessary for growth, the recovery part is mostly overlooked by some die hard gym bros who refuse to take a day off. And that is why I am here to remind you that rest is as important as exercise itself.

Workout gains don't happen in the gym itself; they occur while we sleep. When we exercise, especially during intense workouts, we are causing microscopic damage to

muscle fibers. This process, known as muscle hypertrophy, is what eventually leads to stronger, larger muscles. However, for muscles to repair and grow, they need rest and adequate nutrients, so the body can repair these fibers and replenish energy stores, such as glycogen.

Without sufficient recovery, your body cannot fully heal, and the muscle still damaged from your last workout cannot perform its best the next day. Excessive training of one muscle can also hold back the training of a different muscle. Say, you absolutely trash your chest today, it can hinder your back training tomorrow. The body detects the damage through your blood and

down regulates the power it gives to other muscles, which not only leads to underperformance but also increases the risk of injury. Proper recovery helps prevent these issues by ensuring that muscles, joints, and ligaments have the necessary time to heal, and by giving your HOT body the time it needs, you'll be able to return to your workouts with more energy and motivation, allowing you to consistently push your limits.

Physical recovery has a psychological counterpart. Taking a break can alleviate mental fatigue, prevent burnout, and keep your workouts enjoyable. Overtraining often leads to decreased motivation and energy. Integrating rest days and recovery techniques promotes a healthy relationship with exercise and boosts long-term adherence to a fitness routine. And to help you slow down and take it easy, here are various recovery strategies that can help you optimize your fitness routine. These include:

rebuilding muscle and replenishing glycogen stores. Hydration is equally important, as it aids in nutrient transportation and the removal of waste products.

Another 'Beauty' of a show from Ryan Murphy

Back in the day we had Aaron Spelling TV shows everywhere you turned — “The Love Boat,” “Dynasty,” dozens of others familiar and forgotten. Today we have Ryan Murphy. Is it on TV? Well, then, Ryan Murphy did it. And here comes another one: “Beauty,” based on “The Beauty” graphic novels by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, is headed to FX for at least 11 episodes and the cast so far lives up to the title. First casting notice corrals TV vet Ashton Kutcher, Murphy mainstay Evan Peters (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”), Anthony Ramos (“Twisters”) and double Tony-nominee Jeremy Pope (“One Night in Miami”).

The plot involves a strange kind of dystopia where beauty is transmitted sexually, as in the more you get the more attractive you become. Of course, getting exactly what one wants is often the path to misery, hence the whole dystopia thing. Intriguing premise, obviously, and it guarantees an expanding cast of hotties, another Ryan Murphy specialty. Production begins before the end of the year so you'll be hearing about this sometime in 2025..

Jonathan Groff meets 'A Nice Indian Boy'

The funny, sweet 2021 indie rom-com “7 Days,” from queer filmmaker-oncologist Roshan Sethi (yes, he's also a doctor) made waves for its timely COVID-themed story of a hetero blind date turned permanent quarantine. His next film, “A Nice Indian Boy,” is just as personal but

distinctly queer. It focuses on “7 Days” actor Karan Soni (“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”) and “Hamilton” star Jonathan Groff (both of whom are gay) as a couple who navigate Soni's traditional South Asian family dynamics. Initially a play by Madhuri Shekar — who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Randall — this charmer of a comedy already played to warm reviews at South by Southwest and is still hopping around the film festival world. Be on the lookout for its eventual arthouse bow, most likely in 2025. In the meantime, go watch “7 Days,” and get that weird 2020 feeling again.

Fake Tegan and Sara

Ready for a little unhinged fandom? “Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara” is going to be the queer feel-uncomfortable documentary of the season. Lesbian sister band Tegan and Sara built up a community of fans devoted to the group's music, their unapologetic queerness, and their honest approach to stardom… and then one anonymo us person turned it upside down. In 2011, Tegan's personal files were hacked and her identity stolen by a person who then catfished the band's fans. The result was an upheaval of anxiety and mistrust among fans and a yearslong investigation into the identity of Fake Tegan. The new documentary, from filmmaker Erin Lee Carr (“Britney vs. Spears”), told in Tegan's voice as well as those of the fans cau ght up in the catfish's scheme, is a harrowing trip through the trouble with fame, the internet, bad faith actors and obsession. And since the internet is where this all went down, it's appropriate that the film is streaming on Hulu.
