KENNEDY DAVENPORT
RuPaul’s All Stars’ Final Four By Scott Holland
In the final episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 3, the final 4 were Shangela, Trixie, Kennedy and BeBe. For the final maxi challenge, the girls need to write, sing and dance in the most ambitious production number in drag race history. Starting with Ru Paul’s song “Kitty Girl” the contestants need to compose and perform a solo that shows the world that they came to slay. Later, with Todrick Hall, they will need to come up with choreographer that makes them stand out from their competitors. Then Ru informs them that the eliminated queens are coming back again, and they will play a vital role in the final evaluations. The category for the runway was best drag eleganza extravaganza! Everyone was good in the Maxi challenge and
the runway. The 2 best in the maxi were Kennedy and Shangela and on the runway it was Shangela and Trixie. Ru then explained that the top 4 would have to meet with the eliminated queens who would then vote on who should be the top 2. In the end the queens chose Kennedy and Trixie and after the Lip Synch Ru chose Trixie as the winner of All Stars 3.
How has your life changed since you were on Drag Race the first time?
Kennedy – It has changed tremendously. I get to see and entertain the world. It’s what I have always wanted. Bebe – OMG, well it was an amazing platform and
SHANGELA “You know when we film something we have to hold everything that happens confidential. It’s difficult, but it’s part of the process.“ —Shangela now I get the opportunity to meet a lot of wonderful people and travel a lot. I love entertaining worldwide. I am very grateful. Trixie – Katya and I always say it takes your life from black and white to color. I used to lip sych at 7pm. For 10 people and now I go on national and international tours and I have my own TV show. Shangela – Since season 2 and 3 I have been able to travel the world and build a legion of fans that I love. I am so happy to grow and evolve. I grew up in a small town and I never thought this would happen to me, but I am so grateful and thankful that it did!
What has been some of your favorite cities to visit as a RuPaul Alumni?
TRIXIE MATTEL Kennedy – I love Seattle, and I also love Nebraska as well as Chicago, and of course I always love to come back to Florida. Bebe – I have gone to so many places. I love Austin Texas, and Seattle. I also love some of the small cities as they appreciate and love drag so much. Trixie – To me it was San Francisco, London, Dallas and Chicago. Shangela – London, Dublin, New York, Chicago and Austin Texas, and of course my home of Dallas.
How exciting was it to get called back for All Stars? Did you consider not coming back, and if so what made you come back?
Kennedy – I didn’t think twice about it. I said yes before the sentence was finished. It had been 2 years since season 7 and I felt like it would be a perfect opportunity for a boost. Additionally I wanted to go and prove myself and let them have it again. Bebe – When the opportunity presented itself, I knew it was going to be polarizing and lots

of pressure, so I took a little time to think about it. I decided that my voice was needed there and I said yes. Trixie – I feel like with the work I have done outside of the show I have proven myself to audiences, but I wanted to prove something to myself. I needed the do over to try and re write my wrongs and prove I could do it. Shangela – I am Shangela Laquifa Wadley, and I will always come back! I was super excited to be asked and I wanted to showcase how much I have grown.
How did you prepare differently for “All Stars” than you did the first time you were on the show?
Kennedy – The only thing I did different is that this time I actually had a closet filled with clothes to bring. They were mine, not borrowed. Bebe – honestly I prepared the same way, and went with the same strategy…to be authentic. Trixie – I had more money so I could bring nicer clothes and hair. I also brought my guitar and harp. One of the things I have learned after my first time on Drag Race is that you can’t really prepare as you don’t know what they are going to throw at you. Shangela – I knew that every opportunity on the runway and in front of Ru Paul I would want to create a moment. I think and hope I did that!
I believe in the process of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. I would never want to ruin the brand.” —Kennedy
“I prepared the same way, and went with the same strategy… to be authentic.” —Bebe If you got to choose the top 2, (of the 4) who would it have been and why?
Kennedy – Of course I would have picked myself, and Shangela. I say Shangela because outside of Ben she was the frontrunner, and she has come so far. She really helped make the show. Bebe – I will pass on that question. Trixie – Myself and Shangela as I think we did a great job in the competition and also exemplify that you can create a great career whether or not you win! Shangela – Myself, as I had the strongest track record of the season and I would have also chosen ….well honestly, they were all good and I can make a case for all 3, so I can’t choose!
How hard was it to keep the secret of who was in the top 2 all these months since filming?
Kennedy – It wasn’t hard, because I believe in the process of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. I would never want to ruin the brand. Bebe – It wasn’t hard for me, because when I did drag race originally no one even knew I went on the show. So I can keep a secret. Trixie – I am a terrible secret keeper so it was a lot of focus. However, letting everyone you know be surprised is kind of worth it
Shangela – You know when we film something we have to hold everything that happens confidential. It’s difficult, but it’s part of the process. Honestly, I have been working so much, and that made it a lot easier.
“I feel like with the work I have done outside of the show I have proven myself to audiences, but I wanted to prove something to myself.” Is there something about you that the fans would —Trixie be surprised to know? Kennedy – No, I am pretty much an open book Bebe – That I am very goofy and silly. When people meet me at the Meet and Greets they are surprised. Trixie – Outside of drag I am somewhat withdrawn. AS Ru Paul says “I am an introvert that masquerades as an extrovert” Shangela – I am pretty much an open book. They know if they meet me in real life they are getting the exact same person they see on TV! Wait, I know, my fans may not know that I am a big fan of Game of Thrones.
What’s does the future hold for you?
Kennedy – My music single “Moving Up” just dropped on itunes today. The Video for the ssingle is on my website. I am going to go work on some more music and continue to tour the world. My dream is to get on Broadway. Bebe – I just launched a kick starter to release the film product called “Being Bebe,” which has documented me for the last 12 years of my artistry. I am also in the studio working on a new album and working on a Jungle Kitty Tour. Trixie – Well, my album has just come out and I am
about to embark on a 40 city tour of the United States. The Trixie and Katya Show (now featuring Bob the Drag Queen) is still on Viceland every Wed at 10:30. Shangela – I came in the door as a working girl professional and I am leaving the door as a working girl professional…LOL! I have a new song called “Pay Me” that just dropped on itunes yesterday. I will be appearing in Bianca Del Rio’s sequel in Hurricane Bianca 2. I also have a role in the Lady Gaga’s film called “A Star is Born,” which is directed by Bradley Cooper. Also I have written a new stand-up comedy “Shangela is Shook” and it is touring the UK in April and Australia in December and then back to the US. I am also Co-Producing “Werq The World” which will tour 17 cities in Europe in the end of May.
One question for the winner, Trixie…
What are you doing with the money?
I’m trash for the country that has never had anything, so I am just going to save it just in case!

Miss Florida F.I. at Large Returns!
Parliament House, Orlando Monday, April 23
T
The Miss Florida F.I. Pageantry System is proud to announce that Miss Florida at Large 2018 will once again be held at the World Famous Parliament House on Monday, April 23. Although many pageant systems have started since the Miss Florida F.I. organization started, they have followed the lead of Miss Florida F.I. Pageantry System, and although Miss Florida F.I. is a state title, the system has always been recognized as a national pageant. The owners who plan to uphold the vision of original owners Keith Landon and Rene Rodriguez include: Alyson Thomas, Scott Holland, Victor Zepka and Gary Santis, The Miss Florida FI at Large Formers include: Angel Sheridan, Joey Brooks, Andrea Lovelace, Lola Lush, Luna, Alicia Brooks, Sierrah Foxx, Lorrie Del Mar, Carmella Marcella Garcia, Nicolette Ashton, Jasmine Skiies, Jocelyn Summers, Sasha Sommers, TP Lords, and Nicole T Phillips.
What does the future hold for you?
I feel in my spirit that my future looks bright. I have made so many connections by being Miss Florida and some of the other titles that I’ve been blessed to win, so I see a lot of work in my future and helping others.

Angelica Sanchez
It was a pleasure to sit down with Angelica Sanchez, our current reigning Miss Florida F.I. at Large for this interview:
Why did you enter Miss Florida F.I. at Large?
The reason why I decided to compete for Miss Florida at Large is because it’s been a big Legacy in the State of Florida and I’ve had so many sisters that competed and won before.
“I’m excited to give up the title, but I’m also sad at the same time because I’ve had such a great reign and met so many wonderful people that I don’t want the experience to end. However, I realize someone else must win.”
How did it feel when you won?
I felt privileged once I won because I realized that a lot of people paved the way for us to have a great system like Miss Florida.
How has being a Miss Florida F.I. at Large helped/ changed your career?
I feel like Miss Florida has changed my career because now I have a bigger fan base in the south Florida area as well as surrounding areas plus it also allowed Alyson and I to become even closer than we were.
Are you excited to give up the title?
I’m excited to give up the title, but I’m also sad at the same time because I’ve had such a great reign and met so many wonderful people that I don’t want the experience to end. However, I realize someone else must win.
The Miss Florida F.I. at Large pageant will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Parliament House in Orlando. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the pageant starting promptly at 8pm. Unleash Muscle Size and Strength With Forced Repetitions
Just when you think that you can hardly lift another pound for one more rep of your last set, that’s when you need to give it just a little more. This’s the point when real muscle growth can take place if you are up for the challenge. That is the idea behind forced repetitions – one of the best ways to gain muscle size and strength. Here’s when a spotter or personal trainer can come in handy to help you unleash the brute inside of you! Forced repetitions are based upon the idea that when you lift weights, the final few repetitions of your last set are the most beneficial, because at this point the muscles targeted are being pushed to exhaustion. While one guy does the lifting, his partner places his hands in the proper position to help him finish one or two more reps he couldn’t have completed on his own. If you’ve got a partner you can count on, try this program once a week. Using this strategy daily is too much and may

Transgender Day of Visibility in St. Petersburg, FL
S
St. Petersbugh’s Mayor, Rick Kriseman, issued a proclamation declaring March 31st, 2018 as Transgender Day of Visibility in St. Petersburg, a holiday which celebrates transgender representation, activism, and equality. The mayor honored this international holiday locally because he felt it was crucial to honor the bravery of the many transgender individuals who live, work, or play in their authentic gender in the Sunshine City. “We reaffirm our commitment to promote the full inclusion of transgender individuals in our community,” Mayor Kriseman stated while reading the proclamation in front of city council. Nathan Bruemmer, TransAction Florida advisory board member, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the transgender community of St. Petersburg. “There always comes a moment in history when a community can choose to stand in unity. This is that moment, and I am so proud that my community chose to unite. We still have work to do, but taking this stance says so much to so many. Thank you Mayor, thank you St. Petersburg.” Also in attendance was St. Pete Pride Interim Executive Director Luke Blankenship. St. Pete City Council members Darden Rice and Gina Driscoll gave statements of support.

The Tony-Winning Musical, Something Rotten, Comes to Orlando Cast member Blake Hammond chats with Hotspots

The completely original new musical Something Rotten!, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award and Tony Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Tony Award nominees Karey Kirkpatrick and bestselling author John O’Farrell, opens at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts from April 24 – 29 in the Walt Disney Theater. This hilarious new musical comedy tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, the Bottom brothers set out

It was a pleasure to sit down with Blake Hammond for this Hotspots Exclusive interview:
Were you always a performer, even as a kid or when did you get “the bug”?
I performed as a kid for my mom on the fireplace, but I started doing theater late in High school. I then studied at the University of Texas in Austin in the theater program. I was lucky enough to go there on scholarship.
What was your first professional/paid gig?
My first paid gig was when I did summer stock in university. I was 19 years old.
but I must admit, it is fun to hear your name being called.
What should the Central Florida audiences expect from this production of the Something Rotten?
It is the funniest show I have ever been in, so expect
Other than Nostradamus, what has been your favorite role to play and why?
I have two favorites. The first is when I played Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway. This was so great because it was my first time on Broadway and what a great part to play. The other one was The Adams Family where I played Uncle Fester. It was really fun to play a 10 year old boy in a 35 year old’s body. I got to be a kid every night.
What is your Fantasy role to play?
I have to say I would love to sing the songs of Jean Val Jean from Les Miserables, but it’s not the type or role I am usually cast in.
You have received L.A. Critics, Carbonell, Chicago After Dark and Indy Soap awards. How does it feel when you get these awards and does it ever get less nerve racking?
No, it does not get less nerve racking. I think awards are interesting because it’s hard to say who is the best,
tons of laughs. Our producer, Kevin McCullum, calls it “The Make America Laugh Again Tour.” Also, the cast of this production are absolutely lovely. They are bunch of fun people, and I think it shows on stage.
