from the vice-president One year after making the commitment to serve the Central Florida cities of Orlando, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota with their own monthly LGBT magazine and digital network, Hotspots is thrilled to underscore that commitment with the appointment of Brittani Acuff as brand manager in an expandedOrlandooffice. Brittani, who holds a degree in broadcast journalism and is wellknown in LGBT circles for her advocacy and volunteer work, will be responsible for making sure tens of thousands of readers – locals and visitors alike – are connected with the events, restaurants, nightlife, entertainment, lifestyle and shopping information they need and crave in a well-respected brand that has served Florida for 32years– farlongerthananyother. These are tricky times for America's LGBT population, which numbers about 15 million and has an aggregate spending power of almost $1 trillion – rivaling the spending power of larger minority groups such as black Americans ($1.2 trillion), Hispanics (1.3 trillion) and surpassing that of the Asian community (825 million), according totheUniversityofGeorgia'sSeligcenterforEconomicGrowth. There are those in government, and in communities large and small across the landscape of this nation, who don't subscribe to the ideal of liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness for all. It seems intolerance and disrespect for others are at an all-time high. On a daily basis we hear stories of discrimination, hate and violence againsttheLGBTcommunity. That why it's important for us at Hotspots to spotlight the people, places and events that make Central Florida the welcoming mecca that it is for the LGBT community. And that's why we welcome Brittani Acufftoourteam! Welcometoanotheraction-packededition. Enjoy!

TrinityTaylor Trinity Taylor is a local Florida girl that made it to the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9. According to all the judges, she had the most growth in the season which saw her win three challenges. In addition to all of that, Trinity makesgreatTVasshecallsitlikesheseesit. ItwasapleasuretositdownwithTrinityforthisexclusiveHotspotsinterview.
At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name? I started drag when I was 18. It was a dare and I immediatelybecameenamoredanditengulfedmy life from there. The only thing I knew about drag before is when I saw RuPaul on a VH1 show. I picked my name from the movie Matrix. There was a female character named Trinity and I loved the way she looked, dressed and she was a strong character, so I picked Trinity. Taylor is in honor of mydragfather/family.
How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul's Drag Race and how did it feel when you found out you got chosen? I applied three times and the first two times I wasn't even contacted. The third time I got contacted, but they told me not to get my hopes up high. When I gotthecallIwaschosenIwasintotalshock!
Tell us about your RuPaul's Drag Race experience? The experience is not anything you can prepare for. It's nothing like you think it is. It was extremely hard, but I had a phenomenal time. It really is a race. You have such limited amounts of time and resources, and you have to think on your feet. It was a great experience and I would totally do it again!
Did you think you were going to win? We were still under the impression that there would be another episode and they would be another elimination. IthoughtIhadachanceofwinning, but everyoneelsewassogood.
If you couldn't win, who would you have wanted to win? I would say Shea because I'm a pageant girl and pageants are all about rules and formats. Since shehadthemostwins,Iwouldhavepickedher.
Your drag daddy, Bob Taylor, is my brother from another mother. Tell me about your drag family and how important it is in your life? I love my daddy Bob. I was raised by my grandparents and they both passed away by my early twenties. I met Bob when I was going on 21 and he instantly became a father figure. You choose your drag family, and it's very important to have those people in your life as a support system. They are my family! If it wasn't for Bob, I wouldn't be the business person I am now. What does the future hold for Trinity and for Ryan? I think they go hand in hand. I want to be a business person who wants to be successful in what they do. I am working on doing more TV, my YouTube channel, and I don't want to put limits on what I want Trinity to do. Ryan just wants buy a house, continue my relationship and be happy!

Marsha P. Johnson
Netflix picks up trans activist Marsha P. Johnson's story The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, the most recent project from acclaimed documentary filmmaker David France (Academy Award-nominated for How To Survive a Plague) will be getting a global platform with Netflix. The streaming service has picked up the film, where it will debut for audiences later in the year. Johnson was a trans woman and self-described “street queen of New York's gay population in the late 1960s. Alongside Sylvia Rivera, she cofounded STAR (Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries), the first trans activist organization. Her death by apparent homicide in 1992 was ignored by law enforcement, and France's film (for which the
director worked alongside transgender consultants) follows investigators working to piece together information about the crime, as well as providing an overview of Johnson and Rivera's groundbreaking work on behalf of gender-nonconforming people and trans people of color, who remain disproportionately targeted for violence during the Trump era. Death and Life recently screened at New York's Tribeca Festival and Los Angeles' Outfest, is a moving tribute to this important figure in LGBT history, and we can't wait to add it to our streaming queue.

J.J. Totah has Magic to do We tend to fret over the wellbeing of child actors, but there's a kid out there named J.J. Totah who we don't worry about at all. He sings, he dances, he does stand-up, but mostly he plays lots of gay child roles (and/or exacting and competitive children who read as gay) and he does so hilariously and with a

Mark Waters (Mean Girls), the movie follows a struggling magician (Adam Devine) trying to rehab his career with a magic camp for kids. Totah will be the kid with the take-charge personality and – we're fairly confident in saying this – the sassy dialogue. You might not even know what he looks like yet, but you won't miss him when the film hits theaters next spring.

commanding presence. From Glee to Jessie to his breakout role in last year's acclaimed indie comedy Other People, he makes audiences pay attention and say, “Wait, who _is_ this kid?” He's currently stealing a little moment in Spider-Man: Homecoming that we won't spoil here, but if you're ready to follow the 15year-old's growing career, he'll soon be seen in the comedy Magic Camp. in 1970s New York City. Ruehl will play Arnold's unsupportive mother, a part taken by Anne Bancroft in the 1988 film version. Moises Kaufman (The Laramie Project) will direct the production, which will open at Second Stage, off-Broadway, this fall. This is great news for fans of Ruehl, whose relatively low profile after winning an Academy Award has always felt unjust. It's also great timing for a revival of this play in particular, a chance for younger audiences to get a taste of vintage, postStonewall, pre-AIDS gay life, when the struggle for civil rights was kicking into high gear. It wasn't all poppers and seeing Bette Midler at the Continental Baths, you know.
If only you were following Justin Simien on Instagram like we do, you'd know this already, but Netflix just announced some very good news for fans of Simien's hilarious sitcom, Dear White People: a second season is on the way. All the stars from season one seem to be returning, with Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson all coming back for the 10-episode run. And if you haven't started watching yet, what are you waiting for? It's a wildly inventive show set among the black students at a predominantly white Ivy League university, one where racial friction sets the stage for a brilliant ensemble cast to explore love, sexual identity and the inevitable political realities of being a person of color in a white world. You've got a little time – the new episodes will air in 2018 – so fit it into your binge TV schedule.

Chatting with Chip Mr. Gay Days Leather 2017
O
On June 4th of this year, Chip Wegner was named the first ever Mr. Gay Days Leather. With any contest or pageant title comes a journey filled with responsibilities and charitable quests throughout the year of the title holding. HotSpots Central recently sat down with Chip and asked him about his Journey (past, present and future) of beingthefirstMr. GayDaysLeather. What got you into the leather scene and how long have you been a part of it? When I first came out I wasn't interested in female impersonators or dancing. (This is manly what my local gay bar offered, so I explored other options.) I identified more with the bear crowd, which lead me down the path to leather. I found leather to be masculine, enticing, mysterious, and erotic. The
thought of being dominated by a guy in full dress leather, being shown different kinks, being part of a leather club, this was all very alluring for me, and it is a pathIchosetofollow. Asfarashowlong,Iguessit'salwaysbeeninmyheart, but actively pursued since 1987. Maybe the interested peeked or was instilled with Glenn Hughes from the Village people in 1977. My first harness was fashioned after his, out of dog leashes and metal o-rings. I wore it tomyfirstIML/BearPridein1995withavest,boots,blue jeansandleatherbaseballcap. Have you ever competed in any competitions in the past and if so, did you place? I have, I was Mr. Bear Pride in 2001, and I was also NorthernPlainsLeatherSir2012. There were a few other contests along the way, with runnerupplacements.
th
This was the 6 contest that I have been involved with, so to those of you that get discouraged because you did not place, keep at it. Use your previous attempts as learning tools, get your judges score sheet if you can and pay close attention to the judge'scomments. Why did you decide to participate in the Mr. Gay Days Leather 2017 competition? A few friends of mine encouragedmetoenter. With it being the first year, how do you think the competition went? With this being a brand new competition, I was very impressed with how it went. What was your initial reaction when you heard your name announced as the winner of Mr. Gay Days Leather 2017? I was in a little bit of shock and surprise. It really hit about an hour after the pool parties, when I was in my room. I shed a lot of happy tears and started realizing the journey that I had ahead of me. I was actually wishing two guys that I refer to as my dad's would have been there to shareinthejoy, andhelpcalmmedown. With any title, comes responsibilities and charitable quests throughout the year of your title holding. What do you plan to do and why is that a passion of yours? I am a big dog lover, and locally we have a nonprofit no kill dog rescue, I am in the process of having vest pins made and will be asking for a $5.00 donation perpinwithprofitsgoingtothisrescue. When I am traveling to events with my title, if any group needs help raising money and I have time to help, all they need to do is ask I am more than willing tolendahand. I would like to use my title to spread the message of Unity. WeareoneglobalGLBTfamily. The infighting and division/labeling of groups/individuals, the fat shaming, slut shaming, PrEP shaming needs to stop. United we stand,
dividedwefall. As a title-holder, we represent our community, we need to lead by example. This is a give back to our community. There are some organizations that either don't qualify for federal or state funding that do good in our communities whether it is an animal rescue or an STD/HIV free clinic. These are the organizations that we need to support. I am hoping that our examples of charity work, volunteering and fund raising will get more people involved no matter what generation they are from, titleholderornot. Are you excited to compete in IML 2018? th This is IML's 40 anniversary, and I am very excited that I get to be a part of it as a contestant. If you could give any advice to someone who is on the fence about participating in a competition of this nature, what would it be? Talk to those that have been around for a long time. Make sure you know your leather history, where we came from, why certain articles of dress hold special meaning to some, why you are competing for the title, and what responsibilities you would have if you won the title. Makesureyoudressappropriatelyforeachcategory, most importantly – Be yourself, have fun, and go for it. Winorloseitisagreatexperience. Who inspires you in the leather community? While this looks like an easy question to answer, it is not. There are and have been so many, some that arestillwithus, andotherswhohavepassed. Iwould have to say those that inspired me the most are those that are out in their communities work and advocating for LGBT rights, working in charitable organizations or helping to raise funds for those organizations, those who mentor others, and those whoareleadingbyexample.

DeCarlo Accepts New Position at Center in Orlando
T
The GLBT Center of Central Florida today announced that at his request, Terry DeCarlo would be stepping down as Executive Director, but staying with the agency as Chief Communications Officer. The new position, which takes effect immediately, will allow DeCarlo to handle the demands of media relations, communications and events that have increased significantly over the last year. The dayto-day duties at the organization will be handled by Centerstaffwhowilltakeonadditionalroles.
“This decision was not an easy one,” said DeCarlo. “However, with all that has happened during my tenure as Executive Director, I need, for my health, and for my relationship, to step back from the day to day grind. Now that construction on the new building is coming to a close, and we have passed the one year mark of the Pulse tragedy, this is the perfect time for me to make this transition. I am so proud of the community, the board, and the staff for all they have done to help me along on this journey, and I look forward to this new opportunity.” DeCarlo also added, “I am also ecstatic that the board created the position of Chief Communications Officer. In my new capacity, I will represent The Center at all events, create communications, coordinate media and be the chief spokesperson. I will also remain on the OnePulse Foundation and the Orlando United Assistance Center advisory boards, because both are very important to me, andtothecommunity.” According to Board President, Jeffrey Buak, “Terry has accomplished a tremendous amount as Executive Director of the Center. He has, no doubt, taken the organization to a new level with his leadership. The board, however, realizesthattheCenterhastakenon an increased role in the LGBT community. The Center's national and international exposure has blossomed. We have experienced increased demands for communications, media relations and special events. Terry has become the face of the organization, and has shown significant strength in telling our story and casting the Center in a positivelight. Weareverypleasedthathehasaccepted thisnewrole.”

Remember this summer to take some time to relax and chill. Take advantage of the slower pace at work to fine tune your workouts at the gym. Or maybe you need to take a sabbatical from lifting and pursue some other outdoor fitness activities like swimming or skateboarding. Pack your sunscreen, take a cooler of your favorite iced beverage with you and revel in the events and action ahead. Here are a few of what I refer to as my topsummerfitnesstips.
1. Remember that stretching is a vital component of overall fitness. Stretch vigorously and for several minutes before doing any cardio routine like cycling, running and swimming. For

weight training, stretch lightly before working out, andmorebetweensetsandafteryourworkout. 2. A cocktail or glass of wine are a delight around the pool or cabana, but overdoing it can pack on the pounds, deplete your energy and prove fatal to yourworkouts.
3. Modalities like hydro-therapy, massage, and acupuncture, etc. can aid your fitness lifestyle by relieving pain, speeding recovery and adding to youroverallwellbeing. Treatyourselfthissummer! 4. A professional massage can relax sore tight muscles, lower blood pressure, increase circulation andmoisturizeyourskin. 5. Summer colds are a bitch. Never work-out with a fever,it'scounter-productive,stayhomeandgetwell. 6. Music can rev you up and motivate your work-outs – ifyourgymisplayingtiredtunes, thenbringyourown. 7. Carry a clean towel with you to the gym and a few anti-bacterial wipes so that you can keep equipment cleanforyourselfandothers.
8. Stay hydrated throughout the day and during your work-outs. Chug water regularly, don't wait until you are thirsty. Sports drinks contain too much sugar‌goodoldH2Oistops. 9. Beginning at age 25 most people begin to lose about a half a pound of muscle per year. Regular and progressive weight training helps maintain and buildleanmuscle. 10. Consistency and regularity at the gym add up to success at achieving your goals. Even if your workout isn't stellar, it's still better to do something thannothing. 11. To jump start your fat-burning, try 20 minutes of cardio, i.e. treadmill, elliptical on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. But make sure to eat breakfast soon after this and always before yourmajorworkout.
12. Before trying any new supplement for weight loss or body building make sure you research it. Check with yourphysicianbeforetryingit. 13. Good nutrition, weight training (free weights and machines) and cardio-vascular training (running, swimming, cycling) are the three elements of any soundprogram.
14. Do some core training at work by replacing your regular office chair with an exercise ball. Instead of a bench do some dumbbell military presses, arm curls, etc. onaballinordertoreallyworkyourcore. 15. The warmer weather is better for joints and muscles while exercising, just don't overdo it, use sunscreenandchugwater.

TLC never had to go chasing their gay fans – we came to them. And not just because “Waterfalls,” one of pop history's most prominent HIV/AIDSawareness anthems, made a generation of LGBT people more sexually responsible, or because “Unpretty” affirmed you're fine just the way you are. Ever since their debut dropped in 1992, the selfproclaimed “prissy tomboys” – nobody could wear condoms quite like Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas – led
T-Boz and Chilli talk Gay Sex 101, being lesbian-chased and the LGBT legacy of 'Waterfalls' us all to embrace our own crazy, sexy, cool selves, gendernormsbedamned. But when Lopes, the trio's swagging rapper, was killed in a car accident in 2002, T-Boz, 47, and Chilli, 46,tookalongbreakfromtherecordingstudiototour and pursue solo ventures. Now, 15 years post “TLC3D,” and thanks to a Kickstarter that funded the project, one of pop music's flyest girl groups is taking their final bow with their self-titled fifth studio album “TLC”andopeninguptotheirgayfans.
And no, they didn't just stick to the rivers and lakes they're used to. During our nostalgic and, ahem, educational interview,TLCtalked about how “No Scrubs” gets the queers “crunk”... and, you know, just casually reminisced on that time they got schooled on what it means to be a top andabottom.
Have you ever been to a gay club when “No Scrubs” comes on? Because you've never seen anything gayer or more inspiring. T-Boz and Chilli: (Laughs) Chilli: You know what's funny? One of my friends works for VH1 and, oh my gosh, it's hilarious. He's gay and I'm the only girl who could be his play girlfriend he tells me, and he always sends me – and, I mean, he just sent one the other day – video of when “No Scrubs” comes on, and he's like, “Chilli, I love you!” And he's singingandshowingmeeverybodysinging. Itiscrunk!
So, I take it you're aware of your LGBT following? T-Boz: Oh, very aware. Very, very, very! The thing I love about our fans is, we've grown with them and they've grown with us. Some of them have kids now, so we have generations there. But, yes, we are very, very, very aware of the community, honey, 'cause all of ourfriendsletusknow. Iloveit!
When did you first know you had a gay following? T-Boz: I did a party around (1994's) “CrazySexyCool” and that was one of the best parties I hosted. I
learned so much! Like, I didn't know there were certain terms and stuff! They hooked me up with a lot more knowledge of stuff that went on than I really realized. I was like, “Ohh?!” It was just such a free, fun party. No judging. No anything. It was just one of the best environments I had ever been in, so I thought that was cool. So, probably around '95-ish when I wasreallyaware.
What did you learn about the gay community that night? T-Boz: I learned what a top was, a bottom was. And versatile! (Laughs) I learned all of those terms! I was like,“Ohmygod– thisissocool.” Chilli:Oh,Lord. Oh,Jesus. Iwasn'tatthatparty!
Sounds like you really missed out, Chilli. When was your gay awakening then? Ha! Chilli: (Laughs) I don't know why I feel weird saying it now,'causeyoualreadysaidit! Thebottompart. And youknow… thetop. Ikeeplaughing!
Ha! Moving on to the new album: Which songs on it do you hope become gay club anthems? Chilli: It'sfunnythatyoukindofbreakitdownlikethat. But really and truly, for me personally, I just kind of feel like whenwemakeoursongs, wemakethemforeverybody. Imean, everybody. So,youneverknowwho'sgonnalike whatthemost. Iguesswe'llfindoutintimebywhatsong reallyspeakstowhomeverandwhat'sthemostpopular one that's being played at certain clubs. It's kind of hardertogaugethatoneforme. T-Boz: I think “Perfect Girls.” The three I've heard mostly from my gay friends have been “Perfect Girls,” “Scandalous” and “Start a Fire.” Those are the top three. But I think “Perfect Girls” has a message that's been universal no matter what sex you are – anyone who's ever felt like they don't love themselves from the inside out or have a goal they're trying to reach but can't 'cause they're looking at people who they thinkareperfect. Butthere'snosuchthing!
What do you remember of the LGBT community's response to “Waterfalls” when it first came out? T-Boz: We did a campaign for Pfizer, and there was a new cocktail out. We did seminars and it was really cool because we let it be known that there was a new drug from this company and it could help HIV/AIDS patients. They would come up to us; they felt like we were their voice. It was such an epidemic at the time, sotheyjustfeltlikewewerespeakingforthem. Chilli: It was basically about bringing more awareness (to it) because nobody really talked about it. It was kind of just hush-hush, even though these things were happening. It was like, “People are getting sick, they're dyingandnobodyisreallytalkingaboutitmuch.”
Hotspots Central Florida HotSpotsCentral.LGBT
T-Boz: People even said they thought about committing suicide and it helped save their lives. We started really seeing the seriousness of it, especially when we did charity events. We got a lot of calls for charity events for AIDS benefits, so it started making a really big difference. We basically got one of our wishes through that song, because wealwayswantedtohelpchangeandsavelives.
didn'tknowevenitwashimbecausehewasn'tindrag! He was just walking around with no makeup and it was so funny. But then, when he smiled, it was like, “Oh, that is RuPaul.” Youknow that smile anywhere. Andhe wassosweettoo. Andreallytall!(Laughs) T-Boz: He just came to show love. He was just there to support us, which I thought was awesome. That was it. Hewasjustshowinglove.
Gay icon Bette Midler covered “Waterfalls” a few years ago – what was it like hearing her rendition?
At the start of your career, you rocked a tomboy look. How intentional was your subversion of gender? And what did that do for your lesbian following?
Chilli: That was an honor. It was an honor because she is legend, oh my god. That's legendary right there! And not only that, but she contributed to our Kickstarter campaign. We were shocked. We couldn'tbelieve, like,'BetteMidler?!'
During “RuPaul's Drag Race,” Tatianna showed some TLClovewhenshedidT-Bozdrag.Didyoutuneinforthat?
Chilli: This is how we looked at it: We call ourselves “prissy tomboys” 'cause we're super girly, but we're tomboys at the same time, so we felt like we represented all the girls who did not feel comfortable wearing a tight dress. We represented that crew. Then lettin' everybody know you don't have to wear a tight dress to be sexy – it's the attitude. So, even though we had baggy clothes and all that kind of stuff, we were still feminine, So, again, w h o e v e r g ra v i t at e d toward that and felt comfortable, we helped them feel more comfortable. That's how it was, because we didn't wanna wear tight dresses! We still don't really like dressinglikethat.
Did your style give the ladies the wrong idea – that you were lesbian? What do you remember of those rumors? T-Boz: (Laughs) I absolutely saw it and I loved it! I put it onmypage;Irepostedit. Chili: I don't think anybody ever has (dressed up as me). Maybe I'm boring! I'm no fun, I guess. (Laughs) I just got the long, wavy hair. And I don't hardly wear any wake up, so I don't think I'd be a fun person to dressupas, iswhatI'mthinking. T-Boz: Yeah, I've seen T-Boz drag more than once, actually. It's cool to see different renditions of myself. It makes you go, “Oh, that's how you see me!”(Laughs)
What do you remember from RuPaul's visit to the set of the “No Scrubs” video in 1999? Chilli: I remember the first time I saw him – and at first I
T-Boz: I got most of it! They was always after me, child! (Laughs) All the lipstick lesbians – everybody! Child, I got everything. But that doesn't bother us. Ultimately, no matter what your sexual orientation, we were standing up for anybody that felt like they didn't fit in. We were letting them know you can still be sexy in boy clothes, you can rock this, you don't have to be naked or half-dressed. You can be yourself and bejustasfly.

Hey Woody: I'm an Italian guy living in a big city. I've been involved with a younger guy for a year and our relationship has gone to a level I've never experienced before. I've always been the one to top him, sexually, but now that I've completely fallen in love with him I want to feel him inside me. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is a total bottom. I'm convinced that this whole top/bottom thing is just a state of mind, a psychological orientation, more than some chronic physical wiring. I think our sex life would be more complete and satisfactory if there was some reciprocity, some versatility in it. Do you think roles in bed can be reversed? How can I make my boyfriend top me? Your kind advice would be appreciated. – Switch-hitting hopeful DearSwitch-hitting: “Kind”advice? You wrote Woody for “kind” advice? That's like writing the Tea Party for a reasonable compromise. Goodluck. Of course it's possible to reverse sexual roles. You just have to ask nicely. My last relationship was getting a little stale so one night I asked my boyfriend if he minded swapping positions for the night. “That's a good idea,” he said. “You stand by the ironing board while I sit on thesofaandfart!” The bastard. And then he wonderswhywebrokeup. Anyway, yes, it's possible to get your boyfriendtoswitchthingsup.
IN A TOP/BOTTOM
STATE OF MIND Here's how: Talk to him, but never in bed. Bed is the WORST place to talk about sex. Too much pressure. Always talk when you have your clothes on outside the bedroom. That way shame a n d d e f e n s i v e n e s s a re minimized. Here's what you say: “Honey, I want to get closer to you. I want you to feel what I feel when I make love to you. And I want to feel what you feel when I make to love you. I want to take ourlovetoahigherlevel.” And then present him with a
tiny gift-wrapped box. He'll open it and find a blue sapphire in it. Youknow, thekindPfizermakes. Viagra, thequickerpeckerupper, is a wonderful way to take the pressure off him and put his d!ck inside you. Make sure the box has TWOlittlebluepills;oneforyou, one for him. Why? By taking it together, you'rere-framingitasanadventure that you'll share rather than a demand that he perform. This way you can share the experience together, make it playful and take thepressureoutofit.
