from the publisher Welcome to the October edition of Hotspots Central. Now that summer is behind us and Irma has left town (after shaking us up a quite a bit), we are finally looking forward to getting the season started! First, I wanted to say how proud I was to see how resilient our LGBT business community was to rise to the challenge of getting things back up and running. I was in Central Florida when Irma literally blew through and it was inspiring to see everyone pull together and get right back up just as soon as they could.

However, Pride is more than that. The Pride legacy is about fighting for our community's rights, especially for those who don't always have a voice. Pride is also about taking action - Throughout this year's festival, you'll will see many organizations and businesses that are committed to making our society better. You'll find some engaged in helping people live healthier lives, others who are charged with changing our political landscape, and so much more as you will have an opportunity to meet and join forces with these groups. Come Out With Pride is dedicated to helping you find and connect with them. We've seen countless examples in recent times of how ignorance and inaction can have devastating consequences. Come out this October 14th with plans to celebrate, but also with the mission to help the entire Come Out With Pride team make a real difference. Every year, Come Out With Pride truly makes a difference by allocating funds towards grants and

scholarships for the Central Florida community. Their board evaluates the needs of local LGBTQ+ organizations, LGBTQ+ students and that of allied organizations doing an outstanding job at educating and providing services to our community towards acceptance and equal rights. Come Out With Pride does not provide grants to political or activist groups. Their focus is on those organizations that might be struggling to meet their goals and those with a mission aimed at educating and assisting members of our community. Last year, Come Out With Pride provided $30,000 in scholarships, cash grants and promotional/logistical
assistance to various organizations within the community. In closing, I would like to thank the entire Come Out With Pride team: Brian Riha, Patrick Burke, Jose Luis Dieppa, Cedric Linton, Deb Ofsowitz, Jeff Prystajko, Matt Riha, Holly Strout, Kesia Antunes, Bob Azzarito, Karen Brown, Robert Carnes, J.D. I grew up in Miami and Miss Florida was the event of the year. Gowns, fashion, trendsetters, just to name a few. One day I knew I would be a Miss Florida. But Life happened, and I moved away from Florida. IYears later I moved back to Florida but this time to Central Florida, Orlando. Everything just blossomed for me from there, career, marriage, and most important growth. Miss Florida F.I. came back to mind and I knew I only wanted to do it one time. I checked all my boxes and I knew I was ready. It was important for me to return and finally do Miss Florida, not only because it was a life goal, but ultimately just to show the world what I was now made of and that the glow outside now finally matchedinside.” The Mr. and Miss Florida F.I. pageant will be held Sunday and Monday, October 15 & 16 at the beautiful Bahia Mar on Fort Lauderdale beach

Emilio and Gloria Estefan together have won 26 GRAMMY Awards – but their music is only half of the story. From the heart of Havana to the streets of Miami came a cultural phenomenon unlike anything the music industry had ever seen. ON YOUR FEET! is the new Broadway musical that follows the Estefans' journey to superstardom, set to their chart-topping, smash hits, including “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “Conga,” “1-2-3,” “Get On Your Feet,” “Mi Tierra,” Don't Want To Lose You Now,” and “Reach,” in addition to an original song writtenbyGloriaandherdaughterEmilyEstefan. ® ON YOUR FEET! is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray) and
choreographed by Tony Award nominee & Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis), with an original book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman, The Bodyguard Musical). The musical began performances on Broadway on Monday, October 5, 2015, with an opening night of Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Marquis TheatreinNewYorkCity. Emilio Estefan, in the First National Tour of the Broadway musicalONYOURFEET!. It was a pleasure to sit down with Danny Burgos, who was born and raised in Florida and is in the ensemble and is the Emilio Understudy for this exclusive Hotspots interview.
At what age did you begin singing/acting? I started singing when I was around 7 years old in church, but acting didn't come about until I was a junior in high school. My best friend wanted to audition for a musical, but was too nervous to audition on her own, so I went with herandIgetcastasthelead.
What was your first Professional/Paid gig? It was at Flat Rock Playhouse after my freshman year at the musical program at Florida State University. I was in theensembleforGuysandDolls.
You were born in Florida. Do you get back often and how excited are you to be touring in Florida? I'mveryexcitedasIdon'tgetbackasoftenasIwouldlike. I was born in Hialeah and my dad still lives in Miami. In addition, Florida is where I saw my first musical, so I’m excitedtobeperforminginFloridastages. I see that Pizza is one of your hobbies, which is your
favorite kind of Pizza and why? This is an ongoing joke that I have with my friends. I just love pizza, and every Friday my mom would bring us pizza. Papa John's Pepperoni pizza with the garlic sauce really makes me happy, but in New York, I went to Artichoke Pizza in Chelsea and I have to admit it's the best pizzaIhadinmylife.
Other than this show, what role has been your favorite to play and why? My favorite musical that I have been in, other than “On Your Feet” is “In the Heights.” I was cast in three versions of the show and each time it becomes more familial as it is a Latin based show and I feel an attraction to my culture. The show is just about 1 day in the life of a Latin American in New York, and to me it's so special. The characteristics of being Latin are stripped, and they are just shown as people. Itssospecialtome!

5 Signs You're Really Out of Shape (Andwhattodoaboutit)
A
Are you one of those people who lives a busy life – too busy to take time for exercise? Do you put off going to the gym, taking the stairs, or even walking the dog because you're too tired? Chances are, after a couple of months, sometimes years of making excuses, even legitimate ones, you're going to find yourself seriously out of shape. No time for regrets or selfdeprecation, just look for the signs, be honest, and follow a few suggestions that will get you back to where you needtobe!
• You're always tired. Exhaustion and fatigue are often the result of inactivity. Even if you're working 10hour days in an office behind a

If you find your heart racing when you climb stairs or carry groceries, you're probably out of shape and need some cardiovascular activity. What to do: Choose low-impact, low-resistance exercises like walking, swimming or light weight trainingtogetstarted.
• Your waist is out of control. Excess weight around

According to The American Council on Exercise, working out regularly (3-5 times/week, 30 minutes) is the key to staying energized and alertallday. What to do: Get moving. Take a walk at lunch. Use the stairs at work. Walk the dog. Swim laps in your pool. Bikearoundtheneighborhood.

• You can't do push-ups. Push-ups are an excellent test, especially for upper body and core strength. To perform a push-up, you should be able to lower yourself with arms tucked close to your body before pushing yourself back up. Anyone less than 50 should be able to do a minimum of 5-10 just to beconsideredinfairshape. What to do: Try modified push-ups with your knees ontheground.

Whether it's knowing the already-established history of her sexuality or recalling that time a man had a very visible erection on stage as she performed, Demi Lovato appreciates Demi-schooled journalists. “Thanks for doing your research,” the 25-year-old singer-actress tells me. “I really appreciate and respect that.” Her warm send-off caps our frank exploration of queer topics, including the Disney alum's desire to maintain an air of mystery regarding her own sexual orientation. While promoting her sixth studio album, “Tell Me You Love Me”, Lovato talked artists who pander to the LGBT community, daddy issues and Mariah Carey, meanwhile thoroughly explaining her mindful decision to remain tight-lipped to the press about the gender of the person she's dating.
Because many people will likely not have the opportunity to experience this, what is it like to perform at an NYC gay bar with gay porn playing and a man gyrating on a pole who very clearly has an erection? (Laughs) You know what, it was very interesting. I wasn't paying much attention to what was going on
behind me, but it was definitely a first-time experience... and it will probably be the last. Actually, who knows. It might not be the last!
You weren't paying attention to it? And by “it,” you know what I mean. I definitely noticed it, but I was trying to perform!
It was being called one of the most cringeworthy stage invasions ever. Yeah, it was pretty cringeworthy.
While we're on the topic of wangs, tell me how the first thing out of your mouth while accepting the GLAAD Vanguard Award last year ended up being about Nick Jonas' penis, when you said yours is bigger than his. It was a joke that I was thinking about saying before I went on because I know that everyone in the audience was totally daydreaming about Nick.
Was it even more special to have Nick present the award to you? It definitely meant something that it was being presented by somebody who has been very, very close to me for almost 10 years of my life, but also, it felt really amazing that I was being awarded by a whole community of people. I

'Sorry Not Sorry' singer talks gay icons, not pandering to the LGBT community and opening up about her sexuality in new doc
“...defending and standing up for the LGBT community is something that I've always been fearless to do because it's just the right thing to do.” wasn't seeking an award. I was just doing what is right. And people should be accepting of the LGBT community. It's a no-brainer for me. So, defending and standing up for the LGBT community is something that I've always been fearless to do because it's just the right thing to do.
You've headlined many Prides and you even filmed your video for 2013's “Really Don't Care” at LA Pride. What has been your most proud Pride moment? I think my most proud Pride moment would be getting the Vanguard Award. It was just amazing. It was just a really good feeling and I was so honored to get that award.
When in your career were you first aware that you had an LGBT following? I was aware at the very beginning because I came out with a song called “This Is Me” for a movie called _Camp Rock_ (in 2008) and I had gay guys tell me, “This song helped me come out to my
family because this song represents who I am.” That was when I was 15, and that was really beautiful to me and really unbelievable and powerful.
You have become a staunch advocate for the gay community. I bet your late, gay grandfather would be really proud of your LGBT activism. I love what you said about him in 2014 on “Trailblazers”, a Logo TV special honoring LGBT civil rights pioneers. How did he influence the way you grappled with your own sexuality? He definitely influenced me a lot. I actually would not like to talk about it just because I feel like – I think I outed him, actually, to some relatives, so it's kind of a sensitive subject.
You didn't know he wasn't out? No, I had no idea.
How about other queer trailblazers that you've looked up to? No – you know, I love who I love and I feel like I look at everybody who is outspoken about who they are as an inspiration and that's it.
Your sexuality has been thoroughly dissected by the Internet after you alluded to being open to both genders. I want to give you the opportunity to speak on it as directly as you'd like. Thank you for the opportunity, but I think I'm gonna pass.
“Cool for the Summer” became an anthem for people in the LGBT community, but AfterEllen, a lesbian popculture website, got the impression you were suggesting that same-sex intimacy has to be a secret.
Hotspots Central Florida HotSpotsCentral.LGBT
Was that message your intent and how would you respond to their feedback? My intention with the song was just fun and bi-curiosity. I think people look at song lyrics – they look too into it. I wish I could tell that website to “chill the fuck out” and “take a break,” because it's just a song. I think we live in a world today where no matter what you do, you're doing something wrong, whether it's cultural appropriation or it's being insensitive to certain groups of people. We just live in that age where everything we do is wrong and, unfortunately, everyone's looking for a reason to have their voices heard, and sometimes it's not always in the most positive way.
As someone who is an LGBT advocate, is there a reason you choose not to speak openly about your sexuality? I just feel like everyone's always looking for a headline and they always want their magazine or TV show or whatever to be the one to break what my sexuality is. I feel like it's irrelevant to what my music is all about. I stand up for the things that I believe in and the things that I'm passionate about, but I like to keep my personal life as private as possible when it comes to dating and sexuality and all that stuff just because it has nothing to do with my music. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is trying to get that soundbite and I am purposefully not giving the soundbite. Watch my documentary.
Oh? I have a documentary coming out on October 12 (on YouTube called _Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated_) and I answer a lot of questions in my documentary.
About your sexuality? Yeah, some about that. Because if ever I want to talk about it, I want it to be on my own terms.
Then can we talk about how the drag queens are about to be practicing every song from this album for their routines? Because you guest judged “RuPaul's Drag Race”. You know drag. What performance advice do you have for a drag queen who wants to do your new song “Daddy Issues”? Ohh, I was thinking that would be a fun song for drag! I think a lot of people can relate to the lyrics, so just relate to it and then pour your heart and soul out into it.
Is it important to have daddies on stage? No, no, no. It's actually coming from the point of view where it's like, “I have daddy issues,” so you don't have to dress as a daddy. I mean, you can if you want! (Laughs)
Do you have a desire to be a gay icon? If it happens, amazing. I think sometimes people can abuse that opportunity by trying to win over the gay community. It's something that if it happens, amazing, and I'm more than willing to be that for people. But I don't go out trying to win over a certain community just so I can say that I have that fanbase.
Have some singers tarnished the “gay icon” label? No. Nobody has tarnished the label, but I've heard people say with certain people they are kind of using the fanbase just to get to that demographic. I never want my music to be for anyone. I want my music to stand up for them.
You don't want to pander is what it seems you're saying. Yeah. I'll never do that. If the gay community loves my music because they love it, then awesome.
When it comes to gay icons, the Chers, Madonnas and Gagas of the world, which do you most want to share the stage with? I would love to share the stage with Gaga and Cher. I'd love to share the stage with RuPaul as well! I kind of did, but I want to perform with him.
How about Mariah? (Laughs) You're funny.
Even though you called her “nasty” for her J. Lo shade and her response when asked about you was “I don't know her,” you both have GLAAD awards and I want to see you two kiss and make up and record a song together. I think she's got an incredible voice and, you know, yeah, I'd love to share the stage with her.
As someone who has overcome obstacles to be the sober, confident and empowered woman you are now, what would you tell a young, struggling LGBT person also trying to triumph over similar substance-abuse hurdles and body-image issues? I think a lot of people drinking and using in the LGBTQ community has to do with finding their identity. The most important thing to know is that you are never going to find your identity through drugs and alcohol, so don't even go there. You are not going to find the answers through drugs and alcohol.

Craft Cocktails, Craft Beers, Champagne Cocktails and more...
Southern Craft to open in the Orlando Milk District this month
J
Just weeks before celebrating the third year anniversary of his ownership of Southern Nights Orlando and less than a year after opening his third Southern Nights location in Fort Lauderdale, Rick Kowalczyk announced via social media that he is trying something different: Southern Craft – A true gay orientedcraftcocktailbarandlounge. This won't be your typical bar where you place an order and the bartender whips up a cocktail in 30 seconds or less. All future customers should know that all featured craft cocktails are to be muddled or infused with natural fruits and ingredients. “This concept is something that you don't really see anywhereelseinthesurroundingarea. Youwon'teven see our bartenders using concentrated juice from a beverage gun while preparing your drink order”, said Rick. “Everything will be made to order from scratch. If someone orders a strawberry martini, they will see the bartender muddle fresh strawberries into a cocktail shaker along side the vodka – there are no shortcuts by using a type of flavored vodka. I want each and every customer to enjoy a delicious infused or muddled craft cocktail every time they visit.” Southern Craft will also feature an extensive selection of Whiskey, Tequila and Rum that will allow them to offer traditional guest favorites, such as an Old Fashion, a Margarita, or a Mojito while adding their own personal craft to the
by brett yancey cocktail. Besides the various craft cocktails, champagne cocktails will also be available for customers to enjoy as well as a variety of craft beers and wine. “If you're looking for a place to grab a Bud Light or Miller Lite, I would suggest going next door to Southern Nights” Rick stated. “However, we will be featuring various craft beers from local breweries as well as different regions from around the world, depending on the season andwhatisinproductionatthetime”. Rick and his management team are in the process of finishing up the remodel where Southern Craft will be located and training their newly hired “Craft Staff” with an expected opening date to take place over Orlando Pride Weekend (October 13th – 15th). Be sure to stop by and show your support by trying the soon to be famous BlackberryBubbles. AccordingtoRick, youwon't be disappointed. Happy Hour will take place between 5pm and 9pm, Thursday through Sunday. Southern Craft is located at 2045 East South Street, right around the corner from Southern Nights Orlando in the Orlando Milk District. Hey Woody: You know those vacuum pumps advertised in men's magazines that promise to put at least another inch on your manhood? Are they a waste of money? --Wondering
DearWondering: I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong that I'm still getting pathetic letters like this. For the last time, there is no known way to make your penis bigger. Why do you think we build all those nuclearbombs? These vacuum pumps were originally devised to help men with erection problems. You stick your soft penis into a plastic cylinder and like a hamster pressing a lever for the treat; you press a lever that pumps air out of the cylinder. This creates a vacuum that draws blood into the penis and voila! Erection. Then you tie a specially designed rubber band around the base of your penis (to hold the blood in placeandkeepafullerection). The boys in the vacuum pump industry got a little ahead of themselves and decided they could repackage it as a way of making you a bigger man. Technically, they're right—the pumps do make your penis bigger. In the same way your mouthcanmakeminebigger.
CHEATING PUMP Hey, Woody! I slept with my best friend's boyfriend. It was a drunken mistake and I have no desire to repeat it. I want to tell him but I'm afraid of losing his friendship. What should I do? --- Honest Indian DearIndian: Most professionals would recommend that you acknowledge your dirty deed andpaytheprice, evenifitmeans losingyourbestfriend.
Lucky for you, I'm not a professional. I say silence is golden. Act like you're in Ft. Knox. Honesty is an incredibly over-rated gesture in situations like this. If any good could come out of your best friend knowing, I'd say do it. Unloading your guilt doesn't qualify as a self-less, beneficial act. It's like taking a dump in his living room. Sure, you'll feel unburdened but what's he supposed to do with a hot, steaming load of sh!t on his rug? I say keep your mouth shut, your fly zipped and acknowledge a terrible mistake you resolve nevertorepeat.
