Mums Show up in Style
Carrie Symonds made the headlines when she tied the knot to Boris in a hired wedding dress. Coming in at almost £3,000 full price, she rented her ivory tulle and silk gown for just £45! Now, the dress hire revolution is big news, especially for guests…
Giving you the opportunity to afford designers you wouldn’t usually be able to purchase at a fraction of the price, it’s no surprise that the global online clothing rental market is starting to surge. And get this – it’s expected to grow by nearly £700 million over the next four years! It’s not all ultra-high end, though. Retail giant Marks & Spencer has jumped on the bandwagon, offering up sophisticated pieces from its M&S X Ghost collection for four, 10 or 30 days via fashion rental platform Hirestreet. Perfect if your guests need a quick but stylish fix for one of the many weddings they’ll inevitably be attending in 2022.
That said, shopping local is so important right now, so remind your friends and family to check out the nearby offering wherever in the world they are. Here in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, you’ll find dresses for hire for all manner of events and even some specifically for those with a bun in the oven. So handy, as most of us would have little use for maternity occasionwear after the little one makes an appearance. Want something you can hold on to for the whole wedding season? Totally possible whilst still being sustainable – simply investigate the northeast’s preloved retailers and you’ll be sure to find a gem or two! Outfit sorted? Now it’s time for your guests to think about accessories – hats (which have been a rental option for a long time), bags and shoes. Here’s what’s set to be bang on trend for 2022: • Hats and hair accessories will be OTT this year! Team vibrant colours with sequins and feathers for a fun, stylish look. • You can’t go wrong with a nude or navy shoe for a wedding but, as with headgear, being a little extra is so in. Go bold with red, hot pink or cobalt blue, or add glamour with metallic shoes. • Quite literally handbags, the teenyweeny clutch has made a comeback, calling for us to take along only what we need – and sturdy handles, flaps and zips will keep everything safe and secure! For extra fashion points, pick one with elegant beading, sparkly diamantes or funky studs. P.S. Newsflash: Black is an option! It seems times have changed and if the stats from recent online searches are anything to go by, it’s much more acceptable to wear black to a wedding now. Hurrah!
Our top tips? Keep it sophisticated (avoid anything too revealing or clingy) and if all-black still feels a little harsh for wedding guest attire, ease yourself in with embroidered flowers on a black base – gorgeous! ♥
