Mums' Dress to Outfits Impress

Whether you’re a wow-factor wedding guest or one of the women in the spotlight – mothers of the bride(s) and groom(s), we’re looking at you! – there’s no doubt that you’ll be thinking about how to dress to impress as soon as that invitation arrives. At GWD, we’ve made it easy for you… Here’s what’s looking good for the seasons ahead!

Timeless Sophistication for the Modern Woman

Sizes 8 to 36 in store

Metallics

Reminding us of disco fever in the 1970s, metallics are back but not just in silver. Expect to see black, gold and pink in all types of dresses, from funky minis and slinky maxis to gorgeous occasionwear separates. Best dressed guest alert…!

Cut-outs

If you’re happy to bear a little flesh, the cut-out craze isn’t going anywhere soon – and it’s about to get big in the wedding world. Naturally, this trend lends itself to summer celebrations but if you’re going for it in spring or autumn, simply add a stylish coat or jacket for warmth (and extra glam points!)

Texture galore

From fringing and tassels to voluminous tulle, these timeless details will add interest to any wedding guest outfit – and it seems like bigger is 100% better! Talking of which, shoulder pads will be upping their game for 2023. Showy and powerful, an oversized shoulder will ensure a narrower looking waist and it can be a clever way to balance wide hips. What’s not to like?

Puff sleeves

Already on the hot list, sleeve detail is here to stay. Whether you go for puffed, gathered, lantern-cut or balloon, you’re going to give off a fun yet elegant look all day long.

Kimonos

Oozing elegance, kimonos are set to become a 2023 wardrobe staple for every occasion, including attending weddings! Go plain or printed (geometric is set to be popular) and rest assured you’ll wear it time and time again post-wedding.

Feathers

2023 is predicted to be the year of feathers when it comes to occasionwear and, as if that trend weren’t bold enough by itself, some of you will be combining it with lace, mesh and sequins for a real wow-factor. We can just imagine the hats and fascinators now… Swoon!

Pink and red

No longer the fashion faux pas it once was, be prepared to see these colours combined at weddings for the foreseeable. If mixing them in a dress feels too much, play around with accessories – a striking red dress paired with stylish pink heels, perhaps?

Satin

Simple but oh-so-effective, we’re so in love with slip dresses for ‘maids and delighted that this style is working for guests, too. Look out for long-sleeved satin gowns, and satin suit jackets paired with a skirt or trousers.

The mini

Who says you need to go floor length? A short frock can be dressed up or down with the right accessories. Plus there’s so much potential for wearing it again after the event. Top tip: Go for a classic colour to get even more use out of it! ♥
