Volume 62, Edition 9, Legend Bank of Whitewright is sponsoring the annual Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, July 31 at 6:30 pm at Summit Gardens as part of the Chamber’s annual event. There is no charge to stop by and grab a bowl of ice cream. There’s a lot of talk about Project 2025 out there. Twitter is going wild calling it Trump’s initiative. However, Donald Trump has never endorsed, nor even supported Project 2025. Project 2025 was created by the Heritage Foundation and has zero ties to Trump. Agenda 47 is the only platform that Trump has endorsed. I recently saw a meme that said if you disagree with Scientists about Science, you’re just wrong. I’m always reminded Scientists told us that the COVID vaccines were “safe and effective.” Scientist also tell us climate change is a real thing and that the coasts should all be underwater by now. Because, you know Scientists started saying that about 50 years ago. Scientists also said that wearing masks were not useful during COVID, only to then say they were, backtracking again that they weren’t. I don’t think most Americans are just wrong. I think most Americans have questions. EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect the policy of this publication.

Community Facilities Major changes to intersection Howe Development Corporation at FM 902 bridge coming investing in Howe’s strategic plan

Looking east from FM 902. Stop signs to be erected at each corner. In a few weeks, controlled intersections will be at each end of the FM 902 bridge stretching from Ponderosa Road by Howe High School across US Highway 75. At the intersection of Ponderosa Road, Texas Highway 5, and US Highway 75, a 3-way stop will be installed. Contact was made from city leaders of Howe to TxDOT to have a study done at the intersection in which the study showed that both the east and

west sides of the bridge needed to be controlled. The city is hoping this will greatly reduce the number of accidents on the east side of the interchange of FM 902 on the east side. But in the short term, it could cause an increase in accidents on the bridge's west side due to never having been a controlled intersection. With young drivers coming out of Howe High School, the

intersection on the east side of the bridge is dangerous and a yellow flashing light has not done much to eliminate the accidents that have happened there over the years. Some citizens (Continued on page 8)

life threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, July 2, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Howe emergency medical services (EMS), Van Alstyne Fire personnel and Howe police responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 200 block of West Haning Street in downtown Howe. There, they discovered 55-year -old Dean Lynn Grauman of Trenton lying in the roadway, unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and Grauman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Grauman was standing in the roadway securing a load of tree branches into the bed of his truck when the vehicle driven by Landry struck Grauman’s trailer, then him and his pickup.

63-year-old Helen Ruth Landry of Howe was found behind the wheel of her overturned pickup. EMS removed Landry from her vehicle and transported her to a nearby hospital with non-

A Sherman Police Department Critical Accident Investigation Team member responded to the scene and is assisting Howe officers with the investigation. Ms. Landry has cooperated with the police and provided them with a consensual blood sample for analysis. At this point, there is nothing to indicate that alcohol or excessive speed were factors. However, the investigation is ongoing.

Crazy conspiracy theories by the Howe Enterprise—Election Insurrection Originally published by the Howe Enterprise, September 7, 2020 The election of 2020 has been unlike any other. With the future of America determining the future of the world, everything is at stake. If you still think the virus was just a strange anomaly, then it is time to have water poured on your head in your final moments of hibernation. Some of you may simply need a snap of the fingers to come out of your twilight zone hypnotic trance of Operation Mockingbird. But let me first be the bearer of bad news to all. There will not be an “election night” in 2020. Due to the virus, the Democrat party has been pushing mail -in voting which will almost certainly delay the certified results for days or weeks. A delay provides a window for campaigns, the media, and others to cast doubt on the integrity of the process and for escalating tensions between competing camps. As a legal matter, a candidate unwilling to concede can contest the election into January. Some are predicting a margin of victory for President Trump like no other. But understand this, Joe Biden and his handlers will not concede if he loses. No matter what, they will attack the Electoral College and try and break it and destroy it. Their platform is in their name – democratic popular vote instead of republic representation. Also, if Biden were to win based on unusually high mail-in voting results, you can bet your bottom dollar

the Trump campaign will not concede and will contest the election through all legal means possible. We will not know a winner on Nov. 4. Just prepare yourself for it. And what happens in that case? When police departments have been defunded in Democrat-led cities, you can expect chaos like Portland and Seattle. It is not inconceivable to realize that those two cities are “test pilots” for what will happen all over America. November 4 through January 20 will be the hardest fight for American freedom since the Revolutionary War. Just as there was a coronavirus exercise done months before the actual coronavirus outbreak began, there was a Transition Integrity Project (TIP) that outlined planning “war gaming” exercises in case of an election crisis. This group was convened by Rosa Brooks, George Soros personal attorney. That should scare anyone. She is a law professor at Georgetown and former Pentagon senior official. Other members are Nils Gilman, a former vice chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley and historian at the CCPfunded Berggruen Institute, members of the Transition Integrity Project include Michael Steele, a former chair of the Republican National Committee; John Podesta, former White House Chief of Staff to former President of the United States Bill Clinton; former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, former Demo-

cratic National Committee Acting Chair Donna Brazile, and NeverTrumper journalists William Kristol, Edward Luce, Max Boot and David Frum, as well as approximately seventy other Never-Trumper individuals. Attorney General Bill Barr said in a recent CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer that mail-in voting is open to fraud and coercion. “What we’re talking about is mailing them out to everyone on the mailing list when everyone knows those mailing lists are inaccurate,” said Barr. “People who should get them, don’t get them, which has been a major complaint in states who have tried this in municipal elections. And people who get them are not the right people. They are people who replaced the previous occupant and they can make them out and sometimes multiple ballots come to the same address with several generations of occupants. This is playing with fire. We are a very

a

closely divided country and people must have confidence in the government in the legitimacy of the elections and people are trying to change the rules. It’s reckless and dangerous and people are playing with fire.” False stories are coming out every day trying to sway the election. The Atlantic published a fake story with anonymous sources claiming alleged that President Donald Trump had repeatedly mocked US soldiers killed in battle and skipped a visit to a veterans' cemetery in France out of concern that rainy conditions would mess up his carefully coiffed hair. The story has been refuted by all of those in the presence of the President. America is in an internal war. What should you do to prepare yourself for this insurrection? Vote in person. Pray. Take up arms including the Armor of God.

City of Howe SECONDS COUNT IN AN EMERGENCY! That's why the City of Howe has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices). The system is capable of dialing 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situations to a live person or an answering machine in the affected area possibly including instructions requiring action on the part of the recipient. Once the situation is remedied, another call will be placed to the area signaling that the issue has been addressed and that normal activities can be resumed. The following information is required to add a telephone number into the "CodeRED" database: first and last name; address (physical address, no P.O. boxes); city; state; Zip Code; and primary phone number. The system works with cellular phones but requires a valid street address. When entering information, please fill out all of the screens because the newest data entered will replace the old data. Texas History Minute Persistence makes all the difference, whether in history or science. And it is that persistence that can change the world, in ways both large and subKen Bridges tle. The work of engineer Otis Boykin helped facilitate a revolution in electronics, from the pacemaker to guided missiles. Boykin was born in Dallas in August 1920. His parents had very modest means but worked very hard. His mother was a maid, and his father was a carpenter. However, his mother’s health was weak, and she died of heart failure when Boykin was just a year old. His father struggled on and eventually became a minister. Boykin proved to be a brilliant and hard-working student. He graduated at the top of his class from the segregated Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas. He won a scholarship to Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, a respected, historically AfricanAmerican university. While a student at Fisk, he worked at the university’s aeronautics lab, where researchers devised new components and designs for aircraft. He graduated in 1941. Not long after graduation, he moved to Chicago where he started working for a number of engineering firms. He began working with and developing new electrical systems. By the end of World War II, Boykin decided to move on and start his own company, Boykin -Fruth, Inc., a research and consulting firm. He also decided to expand his educational horizons and began graduate school at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1946. In spite of his passion for learning, he had to drop out the next year because of high costs. Boykin began working with and developing new types of resistors, electrical components that regulate the flow of electricity in a circuit. Resistors were a critical part of the electronics revolution that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s as improvements helped make all sorts of electrical devices more durable, more efficient, and

cheaper. In 1959, Boykin received his first of 26 patents for a wire precision resistor. In 1961, he received another patent for a new, inexpensive, and more efficient resistor. Computer giant IBM quickly became interested in Boykin’s new resistors and began incorporating them into their new generation of mainframe computers and experimental computers and circuits. As a result, IBM began to make computers that were smaller and faster. His components also began being used in such products as television sets. Before long, the military became interested and started using his resistors in new guided missile systems. Perhaps his greatest impact was his work with the pacemaker. The pacemaker itself is a simple device with two components: the pulse generator, which contains a battery that sends the electrical impulses to the heart, which are regulated by Boykin’s resistors, and the electrical leads connecting to the heart. The ability to regulate the heartbeat through the resistor makes the pacemaker practical. Pacemakers today are used to treat abnormal heartbeats, heart failure, and a variety of other heart ailments. They are installed in relatively minor procedures. Pacemakers are sometimes installed temporarily for patients recovering from heart attacks. Thousands of people now have pacemakers, saving countless lives. In the mid-1960s, he left for France to continue working as a consultant. Boykin continued developing new electrical components and other devices. He also invented a chemical air filter and a theft-proof cash register. In his later years, he returned to Chicago where he continued to tinker with new devices. However, his health started to fail. In spite of his work with the pacemaker that saved countless others, Boykin’s genius could not save himself from his own heart problems. His condition was beyond the reach of medicine as it existed at that point. He died of heart failure in 1982 at the age of 62.

Remembering the cost of our independence This week we celebrate Independence Day which is also commonly known as the Fourth of July. It’s a federal holiday commemorating Dr. Billy Holland America’s independence from the British empire which over the past 250 years has maintained a public display of pride and patriotism. This past Sunday at church we sang a heartfelt melody of patriotic songs that declared, America. America, God shed His grace on thee, Glory, Glory Hallelujah His truth is marching on, and God bless the USA! There were American flags at every entrance with beautiful decorations. Many wore red, white, and blue to show their love and allegiance to this great nation. Why is it great? It is indeed a land filled with some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet, but it’s the hard-working, courageous, and God-fearing people who love and obey His truth that makes living here a privilege and honor. July 4th is significant because it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress, a governing body of delegates from the thirteen original American colonies. The document officially declared the United States of America’s independence from British rule. It came nearly a month after Virginia Delegate Richard Henry Lee proposed for the colonies to seek independence. The Declaration of Independence we know and love was largely written by Thomas Jefferson, while other members of Congress suggested edits and finally approved one of the most important documents in our history. The American Revolution was a war for independence, a conflict of selfdefense fought by families and neighbors on American farms against a fierce enemy coming from an ocean away. It impacted millions from Vermont’s Green Mountains to the swamps of South Carolina, from Indian Country to the Iberian Peninsula. In defeating the British Empire and giving birth to a new nation, the American Revolution made a huge impact on the world. Thirteen colonies on the Atlantic Coast were victorious from being controlled by a constitutional monarchy. We rightfully celebrate how they won our independence and established a republic that still endures. Am I saying this country is perfect, or

that it is not guilty of horrible sins? Of course not. There are many areas where the desire for carnal freedom was and is being accepted by a confused legal system that could care less about God’s moral standards. There are two types of freedom, a spiritual liberty to worship and obey the Almighty, and the aggressive pursuit of fleshly rights that defiantly shake their fist in His face. In recent years liberal unbelievers have tried to destroy the founding documents which were based on Biblical principles and the Christian faith and replace them with a new progressive culture of moral relativism. God will always judge sin and nations are not an exception. He has blessed His remnant because they stand boldly to speak His truth even while facing persecution. Psalm 33:1112 says, “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Of course some rebel against being loyal to any government or nation and accuse those who do with being a nationalist. The pledge of allegiance is an example the dissidents and anarchists use to teach against obeying and trusting governments. I’m not going into a lengthy explanation of this term as there are so many thoughts about it and scholars are not even sure what it means. I believe for the patriotic Christian, honoring the flag includes understanding that God requires for a nation to follow His voice. His children do not worship people or politics but are praying and trusting that He will guide the government by His divine truth. In recent years, conservatives have been accused of being intolerant, discriminating, and prejudiced by declaring that America is the greatest country ever while looking down on everyone else. Some might feel this way, but I believe the overwhelming majority of patriots who love Christ love all people and respect their cultures, history, and traditions. There is nothing wrong with having a deep sense of appreciation for everything good in a nation as long as it does not include the attitudes of arrogance associated with supremacy or hostility against those from other cultures. The “God and Country” ideology is still very dear to most Americans and should be, as the red stripes of our flag represent valor and the precious blood of those who paid for our independence. Dr. Holland is an ordained Christian minister, chaplain, and author. Read more about the Christian life at billyhollandministries.com.
