ta s t e o f h i g h l a n d s r a n c h Don’t miss the most delicious event of the year! The Taste of Highlands Ranch will be celebrating its 17th year of excellence in food, wine, beer, spirits, and entertainment. The American Cancer Society (ACS) saves lives and creates a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. Carson & Barnes Circus The Carson & Barnes Circus is coming to Highlands Ranch! When Carson & Barnes sets up the big circus tent and unloads the animals May 18, it is circus history and magic recreated before your eyes. Everyone is invited at no charge to watch as the caravan begins arriving about an hour after dawn and continues to file in most of the morning. Some 25 species of exotic and domestic animals, featuring a large traveling zoo, are unloaded, fed and watered as soon as their huge transports pull onto the grounds. After hundreds of stakes, poles and several miles of cables and ropes are laid out and prepared, the crew and trained elephants push, pull and lift the almost 300-foot Big Top 40 feet into the air. It’s a sight to see! Come join us for the “world’s biggest big top show” on Friday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., or 7:30 p.m.; or Sunday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Advance general admission discount tickets may be purchased for $14 for adults and $6 for children ages 2-11 (under 2 are complimentary) at any HRCA recreation center. Get an additional discount with a coupon at www.HRCAonline.org/events. Advance ticket sales will end at noon on Friday, May 18. Tickets the day of the show may be purchased for $16 for adults and $8 for children ages 2-11. You may also choose to go online and get tickets at full price at www.carsonbarnescircus.com. Speaking of Volunteers – We are always looking for dedicated individuals that want to make a difference and positively impact our community. We currently have a need for several District Delegates to serve in different Highlands Ranch neighborhoods. We also have openings on the Architectural, Finance, Scholarship Fund, Development Review, and Tribunal Committees. If you are interested please check our web site home page for details under Community News. A Community that Cares – For the third year the HRCA has partnered with Cherry Hills Community Church on a large scale community clean up day. April 22 was a great day for Highlands Ranch with over 2,500 volunteers cleaning up our streets, working on homes, helping with the recycling event, cleaning up 37 schools, recreation centers, and the Backcountry Wilderness Area. We even fed our firefighters and police! Community Survey – The HRCA is in the process of evaluating proposals from survey professionals for a community-wide survey later this year. This will be a random sampling scientific survey that will focus on resident perspectives about important issues in the community. If you are one of the lucky households to receive our survey, please take the opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas. The HRCA Board of Directors will use the data to help them in decision making over the coming years. More to come later. Summer up – Summer is fast approaching and we have hired some great new seasonal employees to work in our expanded aquatics and day camp programs. Day Camps start soon and will fill up fast, so check out the new Activity Guide to sign up for one of the many different themed camps – or take it to the Backcountry and spend a day in the wilderness. The outdoor pools will open May 25 for limited weekend hours and the full schedule begins on May 29. Check the web site for the schedule. We have so much to offer to you and your family this summer, come check us out and join the fun!

Volunteers – The HRCA is very fortunate to have over 400 volunteers that dedicate countless hours to help us create and maintain our first-class facilities and community lifestyle. With our Board of Directors at the helm, our volunteers serve in a variety of capacities by participating on committees. As neighborhood representatives, the District Delegates, reach out to our community members; our Ranch Hands work at our community events; and the Trail Patrol helps to maintain our Backcountry. We are thankful to have such a dynamic group of volunteers making a difference in our community.

The HRCA is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious “2011 Silver International Aquatic Safety Award.” Earning this award demonstrates that HRCA aquatic facilities consistently exceed industry standards in risk management and epitomize aquatic safety excellence. International Aquatic Safety Awards are presented annually and are based on the results of multiple random, unannounced aquatic facility operational safety audits throughout the year. These audits include undercover video surveillance of individual lifeguards while they work their Zone of Protection®areas.
