n behalf of the Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Steering and Gala Committees, we welcome you to the 31st Annual HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner & Auction!
The theme for this year’s gala—Impossible to Ignore— carries an important meaning in 2018. We never hoped to face an anti-equality administration that makes every attempt to destroy our hard-won rights, but we are not shaken. We have taken to the streets, and soon we will take to the ballot boxes to defend our rights. Tonight is about YOU. Tonight, we celebrate our community and thank you for every poster, every protest, every phone call and every donation to support our work for equality. Our sincere hope is that this is a memorable evening that will inspire and energize you for the fight ahead.
possible without the tremendous time, talent and dedication of our outstanding Gala Committee. Their countless hours of work helped bring this event to life. We would also like to thank Andrew Land who has led our Gala for several years as dinner co-chair in 2013 and 2014 and on the National Board of Governors as Gala liaison since 2014. Andrew brings a grace and passion for the work that is unmatched. We want to thank him for his generosity and encouragement and for being a mentor, supporter and most importantly a close friend. Finally, we offer special thanks to our families and friends for their unwavering support and for believing in this movement as strongly as we do. We love you. We look forward to celebrating tonight and to toasting your commitment to equality. Thank you for all that you do to support HRC and our community!
We also thank our generous sponsors and donors. Words do not adequately express our deep gratitude for your continued support. In addition to the financial support you provide to HRC, you provide safe workplaces for your LGBTQ employees to flourish and live authentically.
Yours in Equality,
We are also appreciative of the work and support of the members and staff who lead this work yearround. And, of course, this evening would not be

31ST ANNUAL HRC ATLANTA GALA DINNER & AUCTION
WELCOME HRC PRESIDENT
CHAD GRIFFIN
Dear Friends, For more than a year, we’ve been engaged in a constant battle to defend our progress and block attacks on the LGBTQ community.
Jenkins and more. In the heart of the Deep South, you helped defeat Roy Moore and send Doug Jones to fill a U.S. Senate seat once held by Jeff Sessions. And you’ve helped defeat a growing number of this president’s dangerous nominees.
Donald Trump and Mike Pence have launched an onslaught of assaults on our rights, protections and fundamental dignity that have emboldened extremists from coast to coast. In a majority of states, LGBTQ people are at risk of being fired, evicted, or denied services simply because of who they are. Our community -- particularly transgender people -- faces a scourge of hate violence, made more deadly by unfettered access to guns. Young people continue to struggle against high rates of bullying, homelessness, and violence just because of who they are. And we have yet to end the spread of HIV despite having the tools and technology to achieve an AIDS-free generation.
If we can win in Alabama, we can win anywhere -- and in 2018 that’s exactly what we have to do. That’s why we’re engaged in the earliest, largest grassroots deployment in HRC’s history in order to turn out the vote for pro-equality candidates from coast to coast.
But you are meeting these challenges head on, and turning resistance into action.
So in the weeks and months ahead, let’s go big and be bold. Let’s keep fighting to realize a world where every LGBTQ person is safe and equal and valued. And let’s keep marching forward together.
You’ve rallied in the streets to defend our community and galvanized millions to help #ProtectTransKids. You’ve locked arms in protests to defend women, immigrants, and Muslims. You’ve denounced the hate and violence on display in Charlottesville. You’ve called and lobbied your lawmakers to protect our health care, to oppose a reckless tax scam, and to defend transgender troops. You’ve fought to make communities in this country and around the world more inclusive and welcoming for all LGBTQ people. And you’ve taken our fight to the ballot box, helping to elect Danica Roem, Jenny Durkan, Vi Lyles, Ralph Northam, Andrea
Thanks to you and millions of HRC supporters, we are sending a loud and clear message to Trump, Pence and bigoted politicians all across the country: if you come for us, we’ll come for you on Election Day. But we can’t afford to leave anything up to chance.
We’re as grateful as ever for your continued support, and look forward to turning the tables together in 2018. Sincerely,
Chad Griffin President, Human Rights Campaign

May 5, 2018 Greetings: As the 60th Mayor of the City of Atlanta, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 31st Annual Human Rights Campaign Gala & Auction. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) works tirelessly to improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Americans. I am proud to be both a resident and the Mayor of a city that is dedicated to moving forward in our thinking and relations with one another. The past year has brought tremendous progress in attaining equal rights and treatment for LGBTQ individuals. HRC has been an individual partner in these achievements and is essential to the continued efforts for LGBTQ equality. Like HRC, the Atlanta City Council, my Administration and I are committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Atlanta’s devotion to genuine fairness has fostered one of the most vibrant LGBTQ communities in the country, and our diversity is part of what makes our city great. I applaud your dedication and commitment toward achieving LGBTQ equality. My hope is that your gathering tonight will further inspire your important work. On behalf of the people of Atlanta, I extend best wishes for a memorable and successful event. Sincerely,

February 15, 2018 Greetings! Welcome to The 31st Annual Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Gala! Thank you for joining the host committee for tonight’s very special occasion taking place on the border of Georgia House District 58. Your presence at this table is a driving force that moves mountains for our friends in the struggle for LGBTQ+ justice. When we think of our unsung fighters, we are reminded of the people who may never know that we are gathered here tonight. We are here for them—so let’s work until they feel it. The way we ensure that our community members feel the strength of our movement is we continue to educate, advocate and agitate until we dull the pain and heartache of the circumstances under which our neighbors are being denied fair treatment, being questioned, or being ignored. Make no mistake about it; the stakes are toughening-- especially in the South! The political headwinds that the Human Rights Campaign will face are blowing strong with alternative facts, executive orders, and unconstitutional actions, but that’s nothing new to us. We know that on the bright side, today’s environment is one in which, standing together to overcome the forces arrayed against us is not a lonely task. We know that an overwhelming eighty-seven percent of Americans spoke out to support the protection of DREAMers in 2018 and that the willingness of our people to get out of our homes, publicly stand in the streets and say “This is Unacceptable!” is fueling grassroots campaigns, neighborhood town-halls, and civic dinners that have positive social impacts. As we face a hard climb in the coming years, know that our company is good, large, and forcefully resolute. Americans feel the glowing warmth of diversity now, so let’s continue to bring everyone into the fold. Standing with you for justice,

DANA GOLDBERG
R
aised by a wild pack of Jews, otherwise known as her mother and siblings, Dana Goldberg is a force of nature on stage. She sets the standard for smart comedy, and her timing and tongue-in-cheek edginess is why she continues to collect loyal fans in cities all over the world. Goldberg’s quick wit and playful stage presence is spreading like wildfire! Voted one of the “Top Five Funniest Lesbians in America,” CURVE Magazine raves, “She’s smart, cute, and seriously funny!” The Irish Post writes, “Dana’s sharp, insightful observations are concealed behind an easy-going chatty style. This makes her one of a handful of comics able to transfer their work across the Atlantic.” Goldberg started her comedy career in 2003 in front of 650 people in a sold out theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Seven months into her career she was invited to Scotland by Emmy Award Winning writer Paul Wagner to perform with 13 other American comedians as part of the US Comedy Invasion at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. After returning to the states Goldberg began competing in festivals and competitions all over the country. She was one of five national finalists to perform in the “Wendy’s Good Taste Comedy Challenge” produced by HBO and TBS in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of The Comedy Festival. In 2005 Goldberg was chosen out of thousands of comedians to participate in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. In three short years, she was invited to New York City to share the stage with powerhouse comedians Roz G, Laurie Kilmartin and Judy Gold for the 17th Annual Comedy Hour at Caroline’s On Broadway on behalf of the Ms. Foundation and Gloria Steinem. Since her explosive start, Goldberg has performed in clubs and theaters all over the country, graced two national magazine covers, and performed in 23 states and 7 countries across two continents. In 2006, just three years after she stepped onto the stage for the
24
31ST ANNUAL HRC ATLANTA GALA DINNER & AUCTION
first time, Goldberg put on a producer’s hat and started the Annual Southwest Funnyfest in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each year Goldberg hosts the night of comedy to help benefit New Mexico AIDS Services. She brings the best national female headlining comics to the Land of Enchantment for a night of non-stop, no holds barred, side splitting comedy. Since its inception, the Funnyfest has helped to raise over $15,000 for NMAS and has brought in over a dozen comedians from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Comedy Central, Late Night With Craig Ferguson, Last Comic Standing and Comics Unleashed. In the summer of 2009, Goldberg starred in her comedy special “One Night Stand Up: Episode 4” on the LOGO network; filmed at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Later that year she recorded her debut DVD “Hot And Bothered: Dana Goldberg Live” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Emmy award winning comedian David Brenner raves, “One of the best ways to beat the recession is with laughs, and Dana Goldberg offers you one of your best chances to get some in her debut DVD.” After moving to Los Angeles in the fall of 2009, Goldberg found a new comedy home and it wasn’t long before she was headlining nights at world famous clubs like The Laugh Factory and the LA Improv. Goldberg continues to combine her gift of humor with humanitarian efforts raising significant funds to fight HIV/AIDS and joins LGBT communities and organizations across the country to raise national awareness in the fight for equality. In addition to her hilarious comedy and side-splitting performances, Goldberg has shared the national stage with President Barack Obama, Jane Lynch and the cast of GLEE, Lady Gaga, Kathy Griffin, Portia de Rossi, Judy Gold, David Brenner and Kathy Najimy. As the youngest child in a single parent household run by a Jewish mother in which two of three kids are gay, Goldberg helps keep most of the comedy venues and half of the psychotherapists in the country in business.

INVESTING IN LGBTQ EQUALITY
W
elcome to the 31st Annual HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner & Auction! Think about why you’re here. Are you here on a corporate ticket? Do you have a friend on the Gala or Steering Committee? Have you been involved for years or is this your first HRC event? Whatever the reason, we’re glad you’re here — with us — because our work is so important and there’s never been a more urgent time to step up. The Federal Club is a very important, long-term giving program that starts at a minimum of $100 a month. If you are not a Federal Club member, we are asking you to become a member now! By joining the Federal Club, you are joining the ranks of LGBTQ equality leaders as a driving force at the heart of our movement. If you can afford a larger investment in this work, we encourage you to consider becoming a Federal Club Council member. The Federal Club Council is comprised of donors making annual gifts starting at $5,000. Federal Club Council members (also known as HRC’s major donors) have the option of designating their gifts to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. As the HRC Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity, gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Your investment in equality could not come at a more critical time in our fight for full equality for

everyone, everywhere. Radical anti-LGBTQ forces in the White House, Congress and in state houses across the country are determined to undo the progress we’ve made. At the federal and state level, your support will help to fight multiple efforts to legalize discrimination against our community. Some of these efforts seek to not only legalize discrimination, but also to force states to embrace harmful “conversion therapy”; to invalidate local nondiscrimination ordinances that protect LGBTQ people; and to punish transgender people for simply using the restroom. To members of our families, our friends and allies — we ask you to join us tonight in expanding and diversifying our membership. There will never be a better time to join us than right now. You can join us by using the Federal Club pledge cards provided on your table, or contacting us at FedClub@hrc.org, or using our convenient secure online site to become a Federal Club member at www.hrc.org/FCJoin. To our current dedicated Federal Club and Federal Club Council members — THANK YOU for your generous support! Our progress toward LGTBQ equality would not be where it is today without the long-term, generous support from our Federal Club members. We hope you will consider increasing your generous monthly contribution this evening to help us fight the battles that are coming our way.
I RUN BECAUSE... ... I want to end discrimination ... I want to end youth homelessness ... I want to help LGBTQ people around the world ... I’m an ally and want to help ... everyone has the right to live openly ... transgender people matter ... love conquers hate ... my voice counts
RUN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY WWW.HRC.ORG/ATHLETES

AWARDS DAN BRADLEY HUMANITARIAN AWARD
VICTORY FOR THE WORLD CHURCH
T
he HRC Atlanta Steering Committee and members of the Board of Governors congratulate Victory for the World Church for receiving the 2018 Dan Bradley Humanitarian Award. All too often, religion is perceived and used as a weapon against LGBTQ people and equality. Thankfully, places of worship like Victory for the World Church have bravely remained at the table for years, finding new and powerful ways to be inclusive of LGBTQ congregants, serving Atlanta’s LGBTQ community and working to end the violence, fear, discrimination and rejection that many LGBTQ people face in religious spaces. HRC Atlanta applauds faith leaders like Victory’s Dr. Kenneth L. Samuel for being a uniting force and moving our communities forward on the issues of LGBTQ equality and HIV/AIDS advocacy.

ABOUT THIS AWARD As one of the founders of Human Rights Campaign Fund in 1980, the late Dan Bradley distinguished himself through his career as a courageous champion of civil rights. As president of the Legal Services Corporation, Dan was the highest-ranking Presidential appointee ever to acknowledge his homosexuality. That act of bravery set the stage for an impressive string of national media appearances and Dan’s leadership on the boards of many national and local organizations. Dan was the inspiration behind the historic June 1, 1987 demonstration at the White House and proudly led 64 gay and lesbian leaders to jail in a symbolic act of civil disobedience. This award is bestowed upon an individual or group who continues Dan Bradley’s tradition of activism and service to the LGBTQ community.

THE ARMORETTES
T
he HRC Atlanta Steering Committee and members of the Board of Governors congratulate The Armorettes for receiving the 2018 Leon Allen & Winston Johnson Community Leadership Award. The Armorettes have remained legends and leaders in Atlanta’s LGBTQ community by raising awareness and demonstrating compassion and care for people living with HIV/AIDS. What began as a drag show to raise money for their friends who were sick and dying from AIDS has become an Atlanta institution. HRC Atlanta applauds The Armorettes for their continued work to change countless lives and their tireless HIV/AIDS advocacy.

ABOUT THIS AWARD Leon Allen and Winston Johnson were two of the original committee members for the first and second HRC dinners in Atlanta. As longtime civic rights activists, they became close friends with Coretta Scott King, and helped her use her high public profile to advocate for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. Because of their efforts, Mrs. King became the keynote speaker at the HRC dinner in New York City in 1986 and one of the LGBTQ community’s strongest allies until her death in 2006. Leon and Winston were together for 42 years until Leon’s death two weeks after Mrs. King’s passing. The Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Steering Committee presents this award each year to the individual or group who offers distinguished service and leadership to the LGBTQ communities. This award recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who dedicate not only substantial time and energy, but also spirit and wholehearted commitment to advance the fight for our civil rights.

SPEAKER HRC ATLANTA PRESENTS
TAMMY BALDWIN
O
ver her years of public service, Tammy Baldwin has earned her reputation as a fighter for fairness, defender of working Wisconsinites, and champion for the Badger State’s many industries.
In 1998, Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District shattered the state’s glass ceiling and elected Tammy Baldwin as the state’s first female Member of Congress and the nation’s first openly gay non-incumbent elected to Congress. In 2012, Tammy Baldwin ran for Senate and Wisconsin made history again. Tammy became the first woman Wisconsin had sent to the Senate, and the first openly LGBT candidate ever elected to the U.S. Senate. But Tammy did not run to make history. She ran to make a difference. First as a Congresswoman and now as a Senator, Tammy puts working families first. In the Senate, Tammy has worked to strengthen the “Made in Wisconsin” economy by leading the Senate’s Manufacturing Jobs for America campaign to help grow and create manufacturing jobs. She introduced Made in America legislation, endorsed by President Trump, to help rebuild our infrastructure by requiring the use of American made iron and steel. She has also authored reforms that prioritize workforce readiness, apprenticeships and job training. She has earned a reputation as a strong and successful fighter for Wisconsin jobs and businesses. Tammy is also committed to making a difference for children, students, seniors and veterans. In the House, Tammy helped lead the effort to allow young adults under the age of 26 to stay on their parents’ health insurance in
66 31ST ANNUAL HRC ATLANTA GALA DINNER & AUCTION
the Affordable Care Act. In the Senate, she has continued her work on health care to lower costs, increase access to insurance coverage and secure better outcomes. On education, she has spearheaded efforts to reduce crippling student debt, sponsored legislation that would allow students to refinance student loans, and authored legislation to increase access to career and technical training. She has been a strong advocate for seniors, as a defender of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and has coauthored bipartisan legislation to support family caregivers. As a passionate advocate for our nation’s veterans, Baldwin wrote and passed Jason’s Law working with the Wisconsin family of a veteran who died which reformed the V-A’s opioid prescribing guidelines, expanded treatment options, and strengthened the oversight of the V-A to ensure that veterans receive the quality of care they should have. She has also worked successfully on bipartisan efforts to improve protections for whistleblowers and increase funding and services for veterans. Tammy serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP). She received an A.B. degree from Smith College with majors in government and mathematics and earned her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

TO THE CHALLENGE HOW HRC’S HISTORIC GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT PLANS TO PUT EQUALITY FRONT AND CENTER IN 2018 Now is a pivotal time for the LGBTQ community. Not only must we resist all attempts to dismantle our progress, but we also need to grow the political power that is required to advance pro-LGBTQ policies and achieve full legal equality. For these reasons, HRC is currently in the midst of the largest grassroots expansion in our 37-year history. HRC has hired and will continue recruiting at least 45 full-time political, field, grassroots organizing, volunteer engagement, communications, and digital staff for this earliest, largest grassroots deployment in its history. These staff will be crucial to meet our 2018 goals which include growing political power for LGBTQ people, building organizing capacity by training volunteers and activists, and mobilizing “Equality Voters” in support of pro-equality candidates. While our efforts will be national in scope, in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, HRC Rising is making a particularly strong, early push to mobilize Equality Voters, deliver wins for pro-equality candidates, and lay the groundwork for future state and federal legislative victories. These six states host marquee U.S. Senate contests in 2018, as many as 20 competitive U.S. House races, and have closely fought races between pro- and anti-equality candidates for governor, attorney general, and other state offices. These six states are also perennial presidential battlegrounds — with 81 electoral votes — and were decisive in handing the presidency to Donald Trump. We are investing in building in-state capacity for organizing and advocacy in these six states and leveraging our national grassroots power, learning from our work in the 2016 presidential election, our victory in defeating an antiequality governor in North Carolina and U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, and our successful blocking of discriminatory legislation in Texas.

Build and mobilize HRC’s grassroots infrastructure to win key House and Senate races as well as key state races and replace anti-LGBTQ politicians with pro-equality allies in 2018. Maximize HRC programs to raise awareness about the scope and consequences of inequality and engage a broader swath of the public in our efforts to empower, and improve the lives of LGBTQ people. Raise the visibility and influence of the “Equality Vote” to be one that is respected, sought-after and feared. Mobilize a grassroots army in key districts and states across the county. Inspire, engage and grow our network of supporters who invest in HRC’s top priorities, including proequality candidates, the federal PAC and Super PAC, voter registration, and public education.

ENTERTAINMENT GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING ARTIST
ESTELLE
G
rammy-award winning artist Estelle’s climactic rise from local West London MC to Grammy Award-winning artist is the stuff of legends. Born the second of nine children in a strict religious Senegalese/Grenadian family, Estelle learned early to escape life’s daily pressures through music. Growing up she was exposed to African and gospel music, as well as reggae and dub, all of which have played an integral role in developing her music today into a unique, original blend of sounds. Estelle burst on the international scene with her second album Shine, the first record to be released under John Legend’s new Homeschool label, in partnership with Atlantic Records. Her hit single “American Boy,” in collaboration with rapper Kanye West, won a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Song Collaboration, in addition to being nominated for Song of the Year and many other awards worldwide. Her third album, All of Me, gave fans an in-depth look into her soul with the chart topping single “Thank You.” The duality of this album showcased the vocal ability of this multi-talented songstress as the emotionally raw songs flawlessly demonstrated the richness of her musical history. Showing no signs of slowing down, Estelle launched her independent label, Established 1980 Records taking full creative control of all her current and future music endeavors. The first project released under the label was her fourth album True Romance. The album
features the inspirational anthem “Conqueror,” which skyrocketed even further after a special duet version aired during a episode of FOX’s hit show Empire. The song hit Top 3 Overall and #1 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Chart. Performed by Estelle (who guest starred as Delphine) and Jussie Smollett (who plays Jamal), “Conqueror” became one of the highest-charting song from Empire to date and helped spur The Original Soundtrack from Season One of Empire to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 as well as a a Grammy nomination. In addition to her music, she has also ventured into the world of animation, voicing a lead character, Garnet, on Cartoon Network’s hit show Steven Universe. Giving the cartoon world another superhero of color. With all the accomplishments in Estelle’s career she understands that she could not have made it to this point without the help and guidance of family and mentors. Because of this, Estelle runs her foundation All of Me, which focuses on educating and expanding the horizons of young people through college scholarships and volunteer opportunities abroad. One of the great achievement of the foundation was taking a group of Los Angeles young people, most of whom had never ventured beyond their city to West African country of Senegal. Showing them a world outside of their everyday life. No matter the success, Estelle is dedicated to growth and evolution, giving the world quality art that they can carry into their own lives.

31ST ANNUAL HRC ATLANTA GALA DINNER & AUCTION
WHAT WE DO The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ Americans. Donald Trump and Mike Pence campaigned on rolling back equality for millions of LGBTQ people and our families, and our opposition is emboldened and on the attack, attempting to advance state legislation designed to undermine our progress and targeting our historic federal gains. With a grassroots force of more than 2 million members and supporters nationwide, HRC is working every day to counter these attacks and work toward full equality.
ANTI-LGBTQ LEADERS AND LEGISLATION
Since his election in November, Donald Trump has been surrounding himself with nominees and aides who are avowed opponents of equality. Meanwhile, after seeing more than 200 legislative challenges to LGBTQ equality in more than 30 states during 2016, we are expecting another challenging year and remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our hard-earned victory. From so-called “religious freedom” bills aimed at permitting discrimination based on personal religious beliefs, to measures targeting transgender and gender-nonconforming people, HRC is going to do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ person in this country.
PROJECT ONE AMERICA
In 2014, HRC launched Project One America — an unprecedented campaign to advance equality in the Deep South. Through permanent presences in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas, Project One America is bringing HRC’s work to more LGBTQ people and allies than ever before. With more than a dozen full-time staff and dedicated offices in each of the three states, this is an all-out grassroots campaign at a decisive moment in this movement.
GLOBAL EQUALITY
Over the past two decades, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation has helped lead a quiet revolution in our country. The Corporate Equality Index has transformed how employers embrace LGBTQ employees — and helped corporate America become one of equality’s greatest champions. The Healthcare Equality Index has dramatically expanded the number of healthcare facilities guaranteeing inclusive, respectful care for LGBTQ patients. Our Welcoming Schools trainings have cultivated more inclusive classrooms for tens of thousands of students. And our Religion & Faith Program has opened hearts, minds and entire congregations to LGBTQ people and families. Today, we’re committed to reaching millions more.
In 2011, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared before the United Nations in Geneva that “LGBT rights are human rights.” That same year, President Obama told the nation that the “struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States’ commitment to promoting human rights.” These fundamental truths are the core principles of HRC Global, a major effort to strengthen the global equality movement and counter American extremists attempting to export anti-LGBTQ laws and sentiments around the world. As dangerous new anti-LGBTQ laws emerge across the globe from Russia to Nigeria, HRC Global is fighting to call out American organizations that export hate abroad and ensure that American foreign policy protects the human rights of LGBTQ people — strengthening the global equality movement through partnerships and fellowships with LGBTQ organizations and advocates around the world.
TRANSGENDER EQUALITY
FAIR-MINDED REPRESENTATION
A FIRM FOUNDATION
While we are in an unprecedented time of visibility for transgender Americans, harassment, discrimination and violence persist. HRC is working to educate the public, increase awareness and provide a range of resources on challenges facing the transgender community. From our work in corporate America bringing transgender-inclusive healthcare policies to millions of employees, to our expanding efforts supporting transgender youth and their parents, teachers and healthcare providers, HRC is working to eliminate barriers such as the crisis of anti-transgender violence facing transgender people in their lives each and every day.
THE COURTS
When Donald Trump took the oath of office as president January 20, he inherited at least 114 federal judicial vacancies — including one on the Supreme Court of the United States — more than double the number passed on to President Obama from his predecessor. Trump has already pledged to construct a more conservative Supreme Court, appointing justices like Antonin Scalia, and he will have an unprecedented opportunity to shape the judiciary in a way that will reverberate through our lifetimes. That is of deep concern to those of us in the LGBTQ community who face discrimination and have frequently relied on the judiciary to protect our basic rights from a barrage of legislative and legal attacks. We will remain vigilant in fighting for a federal judiciary that respects and protects us all from those who seek to deny us our equal rights.
EQUALITY AT THE CITY AND STATE LEVEL By working at the grassroots level with advocacy groups and fair-minded lawmakers, we are working toward equality in many areas across the country. HRC’s field and legal teams closely monitor state and municipal legislation and provide strategy, technical and financial support, and staff to elected officials and our coalition partners throughout the country, ensuring our commitment to equality on the ground level. Entering its fourth year, our Municipal Equality Index (MEI) has helped cities and towns from the heartland to the coasts enact laws, ordinances and policies that improve the lives of LGBTQ people. In addition, our State Equality Index (SEI) for two years has been providing a roadmap for states in enacting full legal equality.
HRC’s Political Action Committee has been among the National Journal’s top-rated PACs, with more than 85 percent of our endorsees winning their elections. Since 1980, we have helped elect fair-minded candidates across the country, ensuring that the voice of equality is heard in statehouses and on Capitol Hill. HRC provides candidates a range of support, including staff time, messaging development, fundraising and volunteers.
HIV AND AIDS
With new advocacy, treatment options and preventative measures revolutionizing the conversation around HIV and AIDS, HRC continues to fight for a robust national response to HIV and AIDS, which still disproportionately affects the LGBTQ community. HRC is proud to help tackle stigma and to lobby for the full funding of critical prevention, treatment and research programs including PrEP grounded in sound science, not narrow ideology. In the last year alone, we’ve reached more than 5.5 million people, delivering new resources and important messages around HIV prevention, care and treatment.
IN THE COMMUNITY
HRC is committed to making sure that our outreach efforts reflect the diversity of our movement and the communities where we work and live. Through diverse programs — such as the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program and our Welcoming Schools program — we are working to provide LGBTQ people of color and allies with tools and support to better address the challenges they face at the intersections of racial and antiLGBTQ discrimination. We also partner with organizations working specifically with people of color to educate the public on the heightened disparities faced by LGBTQ people of color. And as we continue our efforts on HIV and AIDS, we are producing educational resources in both English and Spanish, and elevating the voices of LGBTQ people of color, who continue to be disproportionately affected.

ABOUT
T
he Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Our vision of a fair and equal world starts with the most basic aspects of daily life — family, work and the community. HRC represents a grassroots force of more than 2 million members and supporters working every day to make LGBTQ equality a reality.
GOALS
This year, HRC is taking on our most ambitious agenda ever.
• Working to aggressively fight threats to equality by our opponents who are emboldened and on the attack, attempting to advance state legislation designed to undermine our progress and targeting our historic federal gains; • Ensuring LGBTQ patients and their families are treated equally when accessing healthcare; • Ensuring that healthcare providers give culturally competent care to LGBTQ people, and educating the public and providers about HIV prevention, treatment and care strategies; • Continuing to lead corporate America to institute equal workplace policies and practices;
Free with Membership!
THE HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN Get the country’s largest-circulation LGBTQ magazine! Equality magazine is free with HRC membership. Get Equality and read our in-depth interviews with LGBTQ people and allies on Capitol Hill, in Hollywood and across the country. Get special updates, photos and calls to action. Visit www.hrc.org/join and join the hundreds of thousands who get Equality four times a year!
• Building diverse coalitions of religious leaders who are LGBTQ-supportive and empowering people of faith to advocate on behalf of transgender people; • Collaborating with LGBTQ movements and leaders across the globe to support their work, and exposing the efforts of American exporters of hate; • Reducing bullying through passing federal legislation addressing anti-LGBTQ bullying and discrimination, and getting at the root of bullying with our Welcoming Schools program’s tools for elementary schools; and • Finding permanent families for children by helping child welfare professionals implement a program to promote fairness for LGBTQ foster and adoptive parents.
For as little as $35, you can become an HRC member… Join us in the fight for LGBTQ equality! Make your contribution today — for as little as $35 a year. Or join Partners with a monthly gift automatically charged to your credit card. Just visit www.hrc.org/join.

BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL The HRC Business Advisory Council was founded in 1997 to support the Human Rights Campaign’s goal of creating an America where lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are ensured of basic equal rights — and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community. While not necessarily serving as official representatives of their companies, members provide expert advice and counsel on LGBT workplace issues based on their business experience and knowledge. Appreciating differences makes the difference. We’re not Turner without diversity, it’s part of who we are at our core. That’s why we’re proud to be a part of the HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner & Auction. It’s not simply about celebrating diversity, it’s about living it every day.
