This is an independent project, proposing to reuse abandoned rail tracks to create a 32km bicycle and pedestrian ring arround the city of Sofia. After publishing it the idea was very well received from the public and eventualy adopted from the municipality. Since 2020 our NGO is working together with the municipality of Sofia for the develpment of the project.

Abandoned and unused spaces in central urban areas exist in all major cities. Maintaining and redefining existing structures is a way to preserve cutural heritage as well as save resources. There are more than 20km of unused railway infrastructure in Sofia, including former train stations and supply buildings.

The Green Ring is a project aiming to repurpose Sofia’s obsolete railroads into a new infrastructure dedicated to sustainable urban mobility and revitalization.
