Lead architect, independent project

Tel Aviv is virtually a laboratory for building additions in urban metropolitan cities. Since UNESCO declared its White City a World Heritage Site, and the conservation management plan that followed, the White City has been adding building additions on top of heritage listed buildings.

Layer 2.0

The competition’s objective was to rethink building additions on top of Tel Aviv Yafo’s modernist buildings from the 1930s. Participants were encouraged to explore innovative and creative approaches that reflect the essence of the original structures and the urban landscape. The challenge is to design a concept for a building addition consisting of 2.5 floors on a listed building. The new Tel Aviv Sustainable Urban Block

The Block is a proposal for a transformative vision for the city, not an idea for a single building. By creating urban blocks, inspired by the Geddes plan, its aim is to generate strong, healthy and diverse communities. The result will be an abundance of affordable and sustainable housing, workplaces, and semi-public green. In the coming years Tel Aviv will transition into a sustainable city and a world example of a circular society.
