What is Live It?
Culture can be de ned as shared beliefs, values, and practices. To de ne a company culture, you need to know who you are, what you stand for, and your purpose. At Hawthorne our purpose is simple, to serve people, each other, and the communities around us with kindness. To lead with a servant’s heart, interact with compassion, and make memorable moments the foundation of the way we do business.
So how do we do it? By nding moments to wow, empowering kindness, making above and beyond a way of life. It is a mission to see good, to do good, and to leave others better than we found them.

Hawthorne Events
Hawthorne Goes Red
Each year Hawthorne communities come together in support of Women’s Heart Health by wearing red. It’s part of an ongoing initiative led by The American Heart Association to raise awareness for heart health in the U.S., and our teams are always happy to participate.
Hawthorne Goes Pink
Every October, Hawthorne “goes pink” community-wide in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our teams go above and beyond to show support and raise awareness for those who are affected by breast cancer.
Hawthorne Experiences
Hawthorne Experiences are crafted with the intention of not just providing a fun and enjoyable event, but also to give residents a taste of what it truly means to be a part of our community. Through these events, residents have the opportunity to connect with one another and to get a rsthand experience of the Hawthorne brand.
Hawthorne Experiences also provide residents with a deeper understanding of our Resident Experience Program, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those who call Hawthorne home. Thank you to our team members who work tirelessly to make Hawthorne Experiences unforgettable moments for our residents.
Your creativity and passion are what make each event unique and memorable, and your continuous effort to improve and enhance the resident experience is a testament to your commitment to the Live It! culture.
Toys for Tots
During the holiday season, Hawthorne communities host donation drives to collect items for Toys for Tots. The toys are then distributed to children in less-fortunate families in surrounding communities. This past Christmas, our teams collected 8,383 toys - over 2,000 more than the previous year! We are always delighted to join this special initiative and help spread a little holiday cheer for our neighbors in need.
Operation Christmas Child
Each year, our corporate of ce team comes together to pack boxes of toys and care items to donate to our friends at Operation Christmas Child - an organization that collects gift boxes and distributes them to over 100 countries during the holiday season. We are so thankful to be a part of this initiative every Christmas. It’s one of our favorite ways to Live It!
Hawthorne Project Hope
He looked at me and was in disbelief. He asked me if I was a ‘Star’ or something, and I said no my company Hawthorne Residential is giving back to the community. He was so grateful and gave me a hug followed by a st bump and just kept saying ‘Bless You’ and ‘Thank you’ . I could tell he was a senior on a tight income, and even though his bill was small, you would’ve thought I just spent $500 on him. He stands out even though every customer was in disbelief and very grateful and thankful.
What an awesome experience this is. I’m grateful that I was able to be a part of it this year.
BEVERLY Senior Property Improvements ManagerThis year HRP Corporate of ce held the third annual Project Hope to give back to the Triad Community. The Hawthorne Project Hope Program allows our teams the opportunity to experience giving back to those who need it through a series of pay-it-forward events at locations throughout the Triad. At Hawthorne, we understand that giving back is at the core of who we are. By reaching out and helping others, we
not only make a positive impact on the world, but we also connect with those around us. We believe acts of kindness have the power to change lives, spreading seeds of hope and positivity that are contagious. We believe that by doing good, we not only lift others, but we lift ourselves up as well.
This holiday season, our Hawthorne teams decked the halls and brought out the festive fashion to celebrate Spirit Week. Each day was given a theme, and we loved seeing our communities bring their A-game and put their own spin on each day throughout the week.
From tacky Christmas sweaters to crazy socks, we’re always delighted to see the creativity and holiday spirit each team brings to the table. It’s a special way to enjoy the season as a team and to recognize another year as a Hawthorne family.
The holiday festivities didn’t stop at Spirit Week! Our corporate of ce ramped up the holiday cheer by hosting an exciting decorating contest where teams got together to deck the of ce halls with festive decorations.
Meanwhile, each Hawthorne region took part in the holiday spirit by hosting their own holiday party, offering teams the chance to gather, socialize, and enjoy the season together, making Hawthorne feel like home for the holidays!
Live It Stories
“This week I had the opportunity to take a prospect in a tour, and the more time I spent with her as she wanted to see multiple views and multiple apartments, the more I was able to learn her story and why she was needing to move so suddenly into an apartment home. She is going through an unexpected and heartbreaking divorce. She was explaining that she is needing furniture and how she loves to cook and needed some new kitchen items. I simply asked her what’s something she was gonna need to buy. She told me that she needed a new set of kitchen knives. Once I completed helping her ll out the application I picked up my stuff and headed to the store to see what I could nd because her move in was happening in 48 hours. I was able to nd her a new set of knives and a few other items to welcome her home on Friday!”
“My family was blessed with the birth of my son on June 29th. I joined HRP in June 2018 under Adam Gray. I have primarily been in his region minus two short stints in the last four years. He orchestrated a ‘quarterly in-person CM meeting’ aka a surprise baby shower for me including a luncheon, balloons, and cake. I was truly surprised and appreciative.
Fast forward to my maternity leave and to my surprise I receive a text from Amy Timocko, RVP who I have also primarily been under since 2018, asking if she can stop by to visit me and meet my son. Now I know this woman is busy, and for her to take the time out of her day to bring me a care package and meet Oliver made me feel valued and cared for. Not everyone can say their RVP would do that. She is a true leader and role model to me.
Now, also during my leave, I’m checking the mail and who do I receive a personalized card from? Corie Henninger, Property Accountant who I’ve worked with under two properties but never met in person. Inside she included a handwritten message and Target GC. It touched my heart dearly for her to take the time to send me a card.
I’m thankful for those who bring Live It Culture to life. There are truly some amazing people that work for HRP, and I am honored to have all of them as a part of my, and now my son’s, life. ”
“Today we found out that one of our residents is losing her ght with cancer and will require hospice care very soon. Her family is with her, and she has requested to celebrate Christmas in her apartment early this year. The team at Parkside donned their Santa hats and put together a small Christmas surprise for her - a merry little tree with a card from the whole team, along with a grocery bag of ready-made meals for her and her family members.
This is one of the bittersweet moments that never gets easier when you work on-site. Being here to assist our residents with grace and understanding through all the good and the bad moments. ”

“We had a resident’s little one come in the of ce. He saw our elf and expressed how much he wanted one! His grandma let me know they weren’t able to get one this year due to nances. So we decided to pack up our elf and sneak her on to their patio (with grandma’s permission, of course). We even included a letter from SANTA himself! I didn’t realize how impactful my job could be, but I am truly happy to be working for a company that knows how to LIVEIT!”
Bristol Park Team
“These two are the de nition of LiveIt! On, Christmas Eve, the most inconvenient of all days, a pipe burst on the third oor, and they sprang into action. For the last 5 hours extracting water, cutting holes in dry wall, lugging blowers and dehus up and down ights of stairs, and doing all they could until vendor support arrived. So proud of the LiveIt spirit they showed today!”
We want to be a light for people in need and be on alert for opportunities to shine.
