NOVEMBER IS CPR MONTH The Heart and Stroke Foundation urges Canadians to learn CPR. The life you save could be a loved one’s.

The new 2010 CPR guidelines encourage all Canadians to respond when they see someone collapse and is unresponsive by calling 9-1-1 and starting chest compressions immediately. Go to heartandstroke.ca/CPRguidelines to learn more.

Learn CPR in the comfort of your own home The Heart&Stroke CPR Anytime™ Family and Friends™ Personal Learning Program is a selfdirected program designed to teach the core, life-saving skills of CPR in as little as 22 minutes. Each kit contains a personal mini-mannequin, a bilingual DVD and instructional booklet. The CPR Anytime™ Kit teaches the essential skills of CPR for adults and children. The kit can also be used to regularly refresh your skills. Buy yours online today at heartandstroke.ca/CPRanytime or by calling 1-888-523-7325.

Grade 8 student alive, thanks to CPR and school AED One moment, Brandon Koskitalo was in gym class, the next, he was lying lifeless on the ground. His heart had suddenly stopped beating. With only seconds to spare, quick thinking classmates and staff at his elementary school called 9-1-1, began CPR and called for the school’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which was used to shock his heart back to life. Today, Brandon is a healthy grade 8 student, thanks to school staff trained in CPR and quick access to an AED. As a founding member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), the Heart and Stroke Foundation helps revise the guidelines for resuscitation in Canada and facilitates the training of healthcare professionals and the general public across the country.
